I want to continue growing it into a lasting record of everything NCFC and will happily develop a ''Supporters Memories'' section if anyone is interested. Your thoughts will be safe there as it is not a forum. It is free from the nastiness of modern football and is a tribute site to the club we all love. Collectively we all have so many good things to recall..........they do ought to be permanently recorded.

You are absolutely right Cluckbert. Players lived in the community, unlike these days where some even buy a luxury place locally whilst their wives and kids live elsewhere. Basically they are not expecting to be around long enough to put roots down. My mother and father both followed City, though never went to CR for games. But they knew so many Canary players from the fifties and sixties......from local pubs, bookies, workplaces. They knew their parents or brothers and sisters and friends. These players meant something to everyone who lived in and around the city. In fairness to modern day players, they have to keep away from modern day fans to a large extent. There is so much nastiness attached to the game these days, it just isn''t safe anymore.

Trevor Hockey was the biggest single reason for us staying up. Absolutely no doubt. One thing I always smile about all these years later, is that Saunders'' team had a tag of being hard and determined. Gritty. I think when Hockey arrived he actually gave new meanings to those words ! It was obvious he had plied his trade in this manner for a long time. And whilst I don''t argue with the comparison with Jones and Savage in more modern times, I am not actually sure whether even they would have survived 90 minutes with Trevor Hockey - the bearded buccaneer.

It''s often said that back in the old days, players were just normal blokes. Accessible to the fans. That is true to some degree, though in 69 when I first went to CR aged 10, they were still Gods, and earnt a damn sight more than my old man ever would. The big difference for me, is that they did not live in this parallel universe that exists today between player and fan. These old players were special - but not for their flash cars and girlfriends but for their commitment to NCFC. Young people may not ''get that'' because it is something they will probably never ever witness. People like Bryceland, Curran and Allcock played for us not themselves. And whilst they were paid good money, it was never enough to put them on a different planet to the rest of us. For many, the prize after playing was a pub, newsagents shop or a job in sales. Bryceland was actually slightly before my time, or at least my memory recall. But I do remember standing in the River End in the mid seventies, long after Tommy had gone, when a lad on the terrace took a ball right in the face. The opposition player just walked away. Somebody nearby to where I was standing recalled that he had once seen Tommy Bryceland do that, and TB was so concerned he ran straight over to help the kid he had hurt. And that is my memory of him. Of all the NCFC websites/blogs, this is the one that matters least as far as what it looks like. It is there to be heard not seen. Hope these guys carry on with it. At least they are attempting to bring something different to the party.

Yes we did Gary, and a number of times in the League, but they were a different Aldershot to the club presently in the Football League.

Quite probable Jarrold, we played the original Accrington Stanley four times between 1958 and 1960.

There have been two clubs called Accrington Stanley (one of which is currently in the league and we have never played) and also an Accrington FC.

Thanks Jarrold, I spend about 20 hours a week on it, what with research and then writing the articles. I have estimated the whole project is going to take about 3 years in total if I want to get everything on. The site is nearly six months old so only two and a half years to go ! Thanks for the encouragement.

Epic Beard is right. Don''t worry about traffic to your site. When I launched my Norwich city blog/website I soon realised that not many people would be interested. But I think Sing Up The River End ! http://canaryseventyninety.blogspot.com/  is different from any other NCFC content on the net. If people like it great. If they don''t - what matters. I chose not to cover current issues because there was already loads of that on the net and it was impossible to bring anything new to the table. But with NCFC history - it''s on the net but in a 1000 different places. And we deserve a tribute site for those who came before us. I calculate it will take me around three years to complete this project - that''s working at my current 20 hours per week on it (mainly research). Good luck whatever you do Jim. Pace yourself and make sure you enjoy what you are doing. But don''t expect loads of interest or feedback initially. That will only come with regular posting and quality articles.

Excellent post zipper. Certainly not looking like a nail biting finish using your science. Agree with other people as well, would be good to see a feature each week showing other teams falling out of title race. Just think how we will feel when there are only a couple of teams left and they can only catch us if we lose every remaining game 5-0 !

There were seven of us,we went down in a transit van on the Sunday morning. Some of the guys had been involved in a big family wedding the day before and so brought what seemed like a million sandwiches, slices of cake, sausages on sticks and cans of beer that were leftover. We crammed into this van, three in the front and four in the back and started tucking in to the feast by the time we got to Wymondham. By the time we reached the North Circular we could barely move ourselves - all stuffed out with food. Had a great day at the match. Great feeling winning. When we got back to the van, still some food was left, so we picked at it again. The guy driving had relatives in Watford or Enfield or somewhere and had arranged for us to pop in for a cuppa on the way back. They had recorded the match on telly and we sat and watched it all over again. Then, just as we were thinking of making our way back up to Norfolk, the auntie announced she had made us some grub, knowing we would be starved after a busy day out !! She presented us with a full blown Sunday roast with all the trimmings ! We all looked at each each other, one guy turned a funny shade of green. We couldn''t face any more food in one day. But we really had to - out of politeness. I have never felt so ill on food in all my life. When we left at about 8.30 we struggled back to the van -  I swear I had gained two stone in weight. We got to a pub by the industrial estate in Thetford just in time to enjoy a couple of pints. So whilst everyone else refers to it as The Friendly Final we thereafter just just recalled it as ''the day we got stuffed - but won'' !

I can''t remember any time in my 40 years of following City where we have been so good at turning games around. Yes I think that is partly to do with opposition mindset. But equally we now have a manager who doesn''t see why we should ever settle for a draw. Brighton, Southend, Huddersfield.................we are losing, then we get level. And every time we push on, and get, the winner. That''s our mindset. Lots of teams would be happy to have retrieved something from the game but Lambert seems to have introduced a new culture to The Canaries. The players believe everything they want is achievable. Add this to the fact that we are probably fitter than most other teams in the division - I think it means the opposition simply panics and folds.

Oldham were well organised and scrapping for every ball in a way that most relegation scrappers will start to about now How true First Wizard. Proof Stockport 4 Wycombe 3. And Stockport 4-0 up at one stage. Bit of scrapping going on there I bet.
