Its a good job this forum doesn't run the club.

Sack Webber for who? Every club in the championship would take him - there's plenty bigger clubs below who would, and have paid hundreds of millions just to have had half the time in the prem we have recently.

Our club will still be in a fantastic position next season in comparison to the huge majority of similarly sized clubs and Webber is just as responsible for that as he is for the poor transfer window in the summer (which for most on here is with the benefit of hindsight anyway)

Agree with you Hoggy. I know he’s got rather unpopular amongst most fans for how he’s done with the PL but I think after what he achieved by signing Krul, Buendia, Pukki etc too much was expected of him

Although I was expecting Webber to manage our finances so that we have no need to sell next summer, I’m not very convinced after  spending £60m and am getting concerned about what our situation will be next season

  2. I have very mixed views on your opinions. Here’s what I think:

    - Send Idah out on loan. Couldn’t agree more, he urgently needs to get some experience and should have been sent out in the summer. Would also like to see Rowe or Dickson-Peters sent out

    - Sell Cantwell. We need rid of him ASAP. That Toddler is just a waste of space

    - Sell Aarons/loan Mumba. We know if Aarons doesn’t go in January he will go at the end of the season. I’m not against loaning Mumba but I think he already seems to be ok at Championship level

    - Sell Giannoulis. No, he only arrived less than a year ago and I think is meant to be Lewis’ replacement. If he wants out at the end of the season then he will go in the summer

    - Loan Tzolis after FA Cup game. He’s still only 19 and not ready for this level yet so I’m not against him going out either but don’t think it’s essential as I also think he will do well in the Championship next season. Think he’s lined up to replace Cantwell

    - Sell Dowell. No, I know he’s not done anything this season but hasn’t got much game time due to other midfield signings. He’s decent in the Championship and I think he was brought in to replace Stiepermann. With Cantwell also set to go soon I think if we sell him now we will probably only find ourselves signing another no.10 next summer

I know we still aren’t far from safety but with Normann out until February plus all the other squad injuries I have huge doubts on us managing to make signings that grants us survival this season, so I think any funds generated should be saved for next summer as if we take a gamble and spend big but still end up in the 2nd tier next season, I can only see us in the same situation as we were after our 2016 relegation

To sell players you have to find clubs that want to buy them though. I think we will find a buyer for Max but am very concerned about finding a buyer for Todd. Has been linked to Leeds, Villa, and Newcastle though

  3. There’s been plenty of criticism over the sale of Buendia but there had also been plenty of talk about the sale of him, Aarons, and Cantwell over the past two years - we always knew they were going to go and I do think the sale of him back in the summer could prove to be vital for the near future

Sargent and Tzolis - I know we weren’t able to sign established PL players but signing a 21 and 19 year old striker and winger from foreign teams seems quite strange for a newly promoted side. How much longer does Pukki have left in him and will Cantwell be with us though? No saying that they will cut it next season but I do believe they will benefit massively from a season in the Championship

Gunn - I think Krul still has two more left in him but McGovern enters his final year next season so who was lined up to replace him? Barden doesn’t have much experience so we sign a 25 year old keeper with good Championship experience

Lees-Melou - As he is experienced, I do think he was signed in a bid for survival. Can’t cut it at this level but I do think will do well in the Championship

Rashica - only signing who seems able to cut it at this level but I think he is supposed to be Buendia’s replacement

  4. I know I’m going to get a lot of criticism and a good laugh by plenty for this, but here are my views on our squad next season

Although I was expecting Webber to make sure we have no serious need to sell, but I’m not sure so with the amount we spent in the summer. We won’t know what the situation is until the end of the season though. As a result of this only clear first team departures I can see other than our loan signings are Aarons and Cantwell

GK - I think it will be the same setup as this season

FB - Mumba can fill Aarons’ boots in the Championship, and I think with a season as first choice for us at that level could turn as good as him. Some think that Giannoulis will go, but I’m not so sure. If he does McCallum would have had two full seasons of Championship loan though

CB - Hanley and Gibson can cut it in the Championship. Omobamidele only made a few appearances last season and has already impressed and scored his first goal for the club at this level, making me think he may be worth quite a bit in a couple of years

MF - McLean, Sorensen and Rupp are ok in the Championship, with Sorensen also able to play in defence. I also think Lees-Melou will be quite a handful at that level

WG/AT - Sargent, Tzolis, and Idah simply just aren’t ready for this level yet. Sargent and Tzolis did great against the Bournemouth reserves, and so I think will turn out a lot better after a season in the Championship. Rashica has actually done quite well so far this season, and so I think in the Championship would turn out similar to what Buendia was like last season. Dowell did well last season. Placheta got hardly any game time and looked awful last season, but actually looked one of our best players in his first two PL appearances so I’m quite interested to see how he does in Championship next season. Everyone seems to think Tzolis and Rashica will go. I’m not convinced considering they’ve only just arrived, Tzolis is still only 19 and both came with sell on clauses

Pukki is only in his early 30s and so I think will still be able to cut in the Championship next season. If he does though it will definitely be his last. As a result of this I want Idah sent out for a Championship loan next month and preferably also one of either Rowe or Dickson-Peters who are looking promising in the U23s, ready for the near future. Hugill didn’t get much game time being third choice last season, but is experienced and did quite well in a spell with Pukki and Idah out. Not good enough for this level though

If we don’t get straight back up though, we will definitely become the same club we were after our 2016 relegation

The Problem is also who out of that 50 million will help us next season if we go down ?

Sargent will he score 10/15 goals next season i would not bet on it

the highly regarded wingers which we have seen nothing from

least last time we went down we had a team we knew could get us back up as they had done it before this time we have a lot of new players who have shown little

Can’t see him scoring 10+ but can still see him getting about 5+. Still only 21 and just not ready for this level yet, same with Idah and Tzolis

  6. If you want to criticise Smith for our poor performances then I think you have to also criticise him for not playing Normann or Rashica recently. They had already been doing quite well under Farke and played in Smith’s amazing first two games, so why hasn’t he played them since? Has he fallen out with them or think they’re no good, so going send Normann home and sell Rashica next month? No - Normann got injured in Smith’s second game against Wolves, and Rashica in training before Newcastle and are still out. Had they been available for all the fixtures since then I’m certain we would have picked up 3 points against Newcastle, and probably 1 against Villa

I’m afraid I just can’t see how Smith can be criticised for our poor performances after all the credit he received after his first two games though, as in my opinion this huge drop in form after a great start under Smith is solely down to all the injuries we’ve received, mainly Normann and Rashica

    Evidence of this please?

Very well said. Although I do believe Rashica has some goals in him this season as he’s been playing quite well, I think Idah, Sargent and Tzolis need get some Championship experience before they’re ready for this level. I think Tzolis is overrated, mainly because of how well he did on his first team debut. What we must remember though is that was against the Bournemouth reserves. Made a start in the league this season, but got subbed at half time

  9. We know both Aarons and Cantwell will be gone by next summer as we will need to balance the cheque books. Although I thought Cantwell would improve once Farke had gone, it now looks like he’s just got an attitude problem.

I think we could get £25-30m for Max, and I don’t care who we sell him to. Mumba’s already shown he can fill his boots in the Championship, and if he gets a season of regular first team football for us in the Championship I think he could even turn as good as Max. McCallum did well on loan at Coventry last season and although out injured at the moment I think should do quite well for us after two seasons of Championship loan. We already have Byram, also Williams this season, and I do believe Sorensen and Rupp can be used in an emergency. Although naturally a left sided player, I also expect Giannoulis can if necessary

If we sell him next month I can’t see us managing to invest the money in a player that granted us survival next summer though, so would rather we either saved the money ready for next season or leave his sale until the summer

  10. With the amount we spent in the summer, I don’t think we can afford a decent first team striker. Aarons and Cantwell will be gone by next summer, but I think the money should be used more to balance the cheque books so we don’t have to sell loads of key players.  Here’s my views on some of our players:

Pukki - I do believe he will still be able to cut it for us in the Championship next season. However, if he does I’m still convinced it will be his last season, so we need to get prepared for his departure

Sargent - I think he could do ok for us in the Championship. I reckon this level is a bit too early for him considering he’s still only 21

Idah - Some of us thought he should have gone out for a Championship loan this season, including me. There’s been some talk of Hugill being recalled and Idah going out next month, which I think would be a good idea. Just like Sargent, he also made his league debut for us in the top flight but gained nothing from it as he had no Championship experience

Hugill - Was behind Pukki and Idah last season, so didn’t get much game time. I think he can cut it in the Championship as in a spell  where Pukki and Idah were out injured he did quite well. Not good enough for the PL though

Rashica - Done well for us so far, and I can see him scoring some this season. I can’t us selling him yet considering he only arrived this summer and has a sell-on clause in him. If he does stay then I think he’ll do great in the Championship

Tzolis - Did great on his debut for us, although that was against the Bournemouth reserves. Still only a teenager, and I hold the same view on him as I do with Sargent

Like sgncfc has said, as we can’t afford to sign a top quality Championship striker I think we have to look at our reserves. Idah should be sent out for a Championship loan next month to try and get him ready for next season. I think Sargent and Tzolis could also benefit massively from a good season of Championship experience

Out of our reserves, Omotoye, Dickson-Peters, and Rowe are all possibilities. Omotoye has been sent out on loan but unfortunately isn’t getting the game time we wanted him to get. Dickson-Peters and Rowe are looking very promising in the U23s and are still in their teens, so I do believe we might be able to get them up to senior level. Maybe give them some game time against Charlton or send one of them out on loan for the remainder of the season

If we do manage to get at least one of these 3 up to senior level, it would save us a lot of money - the last thing we want is to spend loads on a striker and end up finding we’ve signed another Drmic. It could even earn us quite a bit in the near future. In order to achieve it though, we need to work on getting them ready fast as we don’t have much time to do it. Recall Hugill, send Idah out on a Championship loan for the remainder of the season, and give D-P and Rowe some game time in the cup or send one out on loan

  11. I think he was expecting Rashica, Sargent, and Cantwell to get a few. We were also never expecting Cantwell’s attitude to turn out like this either - although he had a bit of a problem last Autumn, he did ok last time in the PL and well in the Championship last season.

Some of us, including me thought that Idah should have gone for a Championship loan this season considering he didn’t get much game time last season. There’s been some talk about Hugill being recalled and Idah sent out next month

  12. I think they should remove them from all rounds permanently. Why did clubs want extra time removed from the League Cup? Because of the fatigue it causes amongst squads for league fixtures, and replays mean exactly the same.

Not many managers take the League, FA or EFL cups very seriously. The money in them isn’t of much value to us, and most teams of our level want to save their first choice players for the league, so use draws against teams of the same or lower level as opportunities to try and give their reserves some experience, and only use their first choice players in draws against teams of a higher level to try and give them some more experience, which I think is what causes cup “upsets”

I was thinking exactly this when I was reading Freezer’s loan rundown earlier. Doesn’t seem that any of our “young prospects” on loan are pulling up any trees and that Omobamidele is the only “upcomer” we currently have. I feel what felt like a deluge of talent last few seasons has slowed to a bit of a trickle but then equally there’s a few scoring goals in the u23s that have a bit of hype about them at the minute, the namesake of this thread included. My only concern is, should we go down again, who do we sell for £ that can fill the hole like Maddison, Godfrey, Buendia have?

Cantwell and Aarons will be going for certain next summer. Aarons because he is good enough for the PL and earn a place in the senior England team, Cantwell because of his attitude and that his contract expires next summer but fortunately with the option of a one year extension.

I can’t see D-P as a first team regular for us next season, but if we get relegated I can see the possibility of him playing in the cup and if we suffer from multiple injuries to our attack force

  14. There was a lot of question over whether he was good enough. Another cheap signing who we believed we could bring up to make the grade. Sent out with an option to buy, but can’t see Porto signing him on a permanent deal. However, I can’t see him cutting it for us and am convinced for the remainder of his contract we will deal with him in the same way as we’ve dealt with Drmic: just try to get rid of him.

Sinani has also been sent out with an option to buy. He’s done ok so far and if his loan doesn’t get made permanent, I think he’ll be ok as a backup for us next season if we get relegated

  15. Cantwell and Buendia both got suspended by Farke from our fixture against Bournemouth last Autumn due to bad attitude. I think Cantwell wants higher wages and thinks he should be playing regularly for an established PL side. As it stands, I think he’ll struggle to find regular first team football for another PL club considering he found it difficult to make the England U21s.

All we do know is that if he doesn’t go next month, he’ll be going for certain next summer

We need to quickly decide whether we want the Toon to be relegated or not.

This will be a decision based upon our own fortunes over the next few weeks.

If, by then, yet another relegation for Norwich seems certain (and we cannot exist with no-man's land thinking for long now, ) then we should want Newcastle to escape the drop.

Imagine what a force they would be in the Championship once Howe has used the money at his disposal to strengthen (especially that defence.)

We need to think yo-yo. That is our model, apparently. With, above all others, Newcastle to compete with  our recent dominance of the Chumps will be very much threatened, even if our probable and gradual decline is not on the cards in any case.

Eddie Howe would be excellent for them in the Championship but, like you, I am underwhelmed about him as a force at Premier League level.

Likewise, Dean Smith could be City's trump card in our attempt to get back instantly.

You’ve got a very good point there Broadstairs. One thing that helped us get straight back up last season was the only real threats in the league were Watford, Brentford, and Bournemouth. There’s already Fulham, WBA, Bournemouth and although they don’t look up to much at the moment I still feel Sheff Utd. Although at the moment I think at least two of those sides will go up this season, as it gets towards the end of the season we will need to choose which sides we would prefer to join us if relegation takes place

If Newcastle go down I think it will be harder for them to “buy” their way to promotion, and although they will be able to afford to keep them, are likely to lose some key players to transfer requests.

We do have some decent replacement players coming through the ranks like Omobamidele and Mumba for who we lose next summer, and considering he’s doing an even better job than Farke in the PL I certainly believe that Smith is good enough to get us straight back up

I do. When they are taking seats from home fans. And it is not supposedly 'neutral' fans we are talking about. It is City ST holders flogging their tickets.

That’s a good point actually RJ - they are. I think the reason I didn’t see it as serious was because the fans I’m talking about were my support workers, as I’m disabled and can’t go out on my own

  18. I don’t have anything against neutral fans, and in the 18-19 season I actually went to the Rotherham and QPR games with some Liverpool and Spurs fans. I even think neutral fans can sometimes provide good support for a team - especially if they’re fans of the opposition’s rivals

Although I did once go to Anfield as an away fan in disguise, unless they’re prepared to act like they’re home fans, I think away fans in the home seating should be removed straight away
