  1. Penalties still have an element of luck about them as the keepers guess which way to go so even a badly hit penalty can go in if the keeper goes the other way. A really well struck pen can be saved if the keeper guesses right as they seem to get away with going early nowadays. My suggestion to make it more skillfull is the following:

A direct shot is taken from anywhere on the ''D'' of the penalty area.

Keeper can stand anywhere in the 6 yard box

On the whistle player begins run up and the keeper can charge out if he likes.

Only three shots per team before sudden death

The majority of shots will miss the goal or be saved. Will produce a real hero as one goal will probably be enough. Would see some fantastic shots/saves as the keepers would not have to guess but stand and react to where the shot is going. To score would probably need a top corner belter which would deserve to win.

Simple but quicker. more skillful and more entertaining.

  2. In the days when we were a decent First Division team we always lost our best players to other teams. Why are people surprised that this is still happening now as we have not suddenly become a giant of English football. Any team who wants Ruddy, Howson, Hoolahan, Pilkington, Bennett etc will get them as we would never be able to meet their wages. The same goes for a lot of other clubs. Watch Swansea (Siggudson), Wigan (Moses), Fulham (Dempsey) and many others suffer the same fate. Its football

  3. If we are seriously planning for the future then getting a decent price for a player his age will go a long way towards buying a younger version. Holty would be mad to turn down a big money offer at this late stage of his career. What he has done for this club will never be forgotten and fair play to him if he can get set up for life. We can all come out of this deal in a better place even though at first it seems unthinkable. Would love him to stay but it is not the end of the world. We could never keep our best players when we were an established top tier team so see no reason why we think anything would have changed.

  4. No fancy diagrams to show to the subs, no earpieces, no scribbling down notes every two minutes, no gloves, no snoods, no blaming refs for defeats (and we have had reason to), no imaginary cards, no players throwing things when subbed, no obligatory signing of failed Premier league players, no meaningless hand signals, no ''look how clever i am'' quotes (even though he''s a genius), no red nose, no knitted scarf, no ginger beard, no moaning about injuries, no airs, graces, arrogance, bitterness or gloating.

Just a bloke who knows the game, knows a player, knows how to treat people, knows how to conduct himself and does it all in a simple yet brilliant way yet refuses to take any real credit for what he does.

For all these reasons I love the bloke!

  5. After the fantastic victory in Swansea we could well have been outed in the papers this week and our secret could have been revealed. Thanks to Luis Suarez, AVB, Wolves and the England managers job, we can rest easy for another week or two. Don''t know how we are going to keep our cover when we tank Man United though!

  6. Not being local, it was always a challenge getting my son to stick with Norwich and not losing him to one of the glamour clubs. Took him to CR from an early age and would not take him anywhere else so if he wanted to watch live football, that was his only choice. By about 10 he was hooked anyway so not to worry. Barring the odd memorable occasion (Play off final and brief stay in Prem) he has not had much to shout about.

After the relegation to League 1, I felt a touch of guilt that I had burdened him with a team that was in decline and that he would never get to see his team enjoy the good times again. To his credit, he embraced the chance to visit some new grounds and we had some memorable away days that season. He was proud to be a part of the yellow army and the fact that we had such a big following.

What has happened over the last few seasons has been amazing for an old hand like me but I am more pleased for the lad who is absolutely loving it at the moment.

To all the other teenagers out there with similar experiences, i would like to say thank you and well done for sticking with us. There will no doubt be plenty more ups and downs for Norwich in your lifetime but bloody enjoy the present. You can tell your own children ''I was there during the Lambert era'' . Make sure they continue the good work and don''t forget to thank your own parents for giving you the gift of Norwich City

  7. Or did we batter Swansea today. We had all the play first half and the only time they dominated possession was when we went 2 up. Okay they put a bit of pressure on at the end but we could have scored 2 or 3 more ourselves near the end. Our football was just as good as theirs and overall we looked a far better team. Hopefully now we will hear less of the ''fabulous'' Swans

  8. The run in we have looked tough when the fixtures were released but we all probably thought at the time that we would be hovering nearer the relegation places. With survival almost achieved and with the confidence gained so far, i believe that we can play these tough games with a ''nothing to lose'' attitude. With no pressure on us i think we can take a few more points than we would have previously thought from the run in and who knows where we can get to. I don''t think we will overtake Sunderland and can''t see us catching any of the top 7 so its still 9th for me

  9. Just from a semi informed opinion it seemed like Ayala''s injury will be a full 6 weeker and Whitbread may have been a precaution and could (fingers crossed) be ok next week. With Ayala already out Whitbread may have been taken off to avoid any further damage which would have ruled him out for a long spell. He certainly didn''t look in too much distress.
