1. I agree with your original post LDC. Your use of the word ''agonising'' was suitable; last season was just that. We didn''t score, but were generally hard to beat (as Van Persie said about us). I guess that''s how Houghton aimed to set up his teams -- discipline + defence (obviously though he didn''t seem to know how to instil confidence (which breeds confidence) or any kind of free-flowing, attack minded football). Anyway, yadda yadda, last season, last schmeason. This season, I feel our current performances have been at the very best an efficient attack based game. However, not once have I felt like we won''t concede. Rather than ''agonising'', there is a certain inevitability of ''when and how many'' will the other team score. Rather than needing 1 goal to win a game, we usually need 2 or 3. I''m not going to berate players or management as that doesn''t help anyone. However, I would like to see our team better defensively set up. At some stage, this has to be addressed properly. I do hope Phelan can help make this happen, but it''s a big request, especially since ultimately it should be Adams'' job.
2. Despite what many others on the forum are moaning about -- I don''t really see the point. Yep, I would have felt a bit more easy having seen a longer serving and more established manager get the post -- especially in a financially important season, having just been relegated. But then again (here''s my point :)): Lambert didn''t exactly have a super-mega reputation with big clubs when he joined us, but did absolute wonders (fans in return calling McNally a genius); Houghton on the other hand had a pretty solid reputation, with bigger clubs, and it seemed everyone thought very little of him (fans calling McNally all names under the sun) I actually wonder if Houghton wouldd have kept us up, e.g., by boring the opposition out of wins, and psychologically perhaps Sunderland would have performed less confidently had they not seen us making desperate decisions and sacking our manager. Anyway, I''d certainly gonna give the Adams a chance. He''s done pretty well with the youth setup... (and yes, I know that''s different). Either way, what''s done is done. Perhaps this is another inspired appointment? It''s hard to believe it now, it might not be in the end, but perhaps just maybe it will be! Life of a football fan (or just a NCFC fan). Enough said. OTBC!!!!
3. Dear pinkun'' article moderator/checker/editor, "Victory over West Brom was a highlight of Chris Hughton’s tenure at Norwich City, but a more recent history lesson is more pertient in the battle for Premier League survival." For some reason the "pertient" (i.e., pertinent) spelling really grated on me (even though I know you guys/girls do a great job, churning out regular interesting stuff for us fans). Thank you :)! Anyway, OTBC!!!
4. Okay, Simple Jack says a real fan is someone who pays to go to games, and thus their opinion counts. Bit of inference... Seats in the stadium can be booked by people. The set of all people in the stadium count as ''real'' fans. If Simple Jack doesn''t attend one week, moves home for family reasons or something, then his opinion no longer counts, and is allowed to be abused on forums. (This includes board members, chair-people, etc.) Also, the consequence of this statement is that the total number of Norwich City fans can only ever be equal to the capacity of Carrow road. Oh. I think I spotted a flaw in that definition. My view is that a fan is someone who supports the club. Pretty simple, and doesn''t involve belittling others.
5. I was only suggesting my opinion about one player''s performance. Seems to have gotten out of hand with people suggesting "scapegoating", etc. Collective, shared opinion doesn''t necessarily = scapegoating. My comment was just that -- a comment about 1 player''s performance -- just my opinion. If others agree -- good. If others don''t, good too. It''s just an opinion. I''m all for constructive criticism, but some of the replies have not been what I''d expected. Those who aren''t so happy, cheer up -- it''s sunny out and we''re in the Premier League with one of the best squads our team has ever had!!
6.
Negative PostViews Post Count "mid 20''s"I''m beginning to spot a trend here
You''re funny. Take a read of my post and I say I trust in those who know better, i.e., management ;). Also, low post count = invalid thoughts from a 30+ year lifelong supporter of this marvellous club? Just like to point out: you were once at about 20 posts, meaning what about you exactly ;)? Also, your type of belittling accusational comment based on no evidence (e.g., "don''t bother listening to this person, they''ve only posted a few times") suggests less about me than you. I say chill out -- it''s only football -- great game, but ultimately only a game!
7. Yeah, that''s a fair point. Defensively though I''m terrified when the ball comes near him.
8. Personally I feel that Garrido has been playing terribly recently. I don''t think he''s a bad player, but in the two games this season he''s looked frighteningly suspect when called upon. Don''t get me wrong, I will be patient and hope the team starts performing a bit better. At least I''d like to see them fighting to win, which is something I''ve gotten used to over the past few seasons. Yesterday however, I was a bit shocked they didn''t seem so bothered and looked a bit like they had no idea how to break down Hull. I''d love it, love it if we could retain the ball a bit better in the hole -- Wes, for me has got to be playing and does that job better than most. Tricky on the ball, good eye for a pass, and a smaller player that can and does win fairly a number of free kicks (not through cheating!). In brief, my worries are: > Defence with almost zero pace -- Whittaker and Garrido most guilty here (I like them, but some times yesterday when it was 2 Hull vs 3 or 4 Norwich defenders, I felt Hull were the more likely to win the battle). > Retaining ball in dangerous areas, to help feed Mr Wolfy -- who looks to be an excellent finisher. > How come Hughton is happy to play a tactically defensive line up, yet seem to not so care about having pace / being any good in defence. Bring back Bassong+Turner. Leave Martin on the right, and play Olsson please. All that said, I don''t profess to being an expert -- I trust and will leave it to the people who know a bit more than me! Just wanted to see what others though (of my albeit ranty post)t...
9. At the start of the match / when we need some inspiration the crowd should shout, "thunder, Thunder, THUNDER CANARIES... HOOOOOOO!". I reckon it might help... might not though but would be fun trying.
10. Hmmm, just wondering what it is about Doc that makes people worry about him, as do I.. To be honest, I think it''s to do with his inability to lead+support the back line through truly difficult phases of a game (though that is a big ask I know, but is crucial for a CB). When results have been good, he''s fine. In brief, I think it''s a case of his mind needing to be that bit stronger, so as to have more self confidence, and not be so affected by the crowd getting on at him. If he isn''t affected by it, then he''d win the crowd as he currently doing.... the real test will be when we play decent opposition week on week, who have some pace that exposes his weaknesses--how will he react? I just hope he is man enough to recognise his weaknesses and potentially get someone else to help him out if he spots something.. Blimey, that was quite a bold bunch of statements I just made -- which I guess aren''t based on so much... but hey we''re allowed to do this in this forum :).
11. I''ve not rated Doherty in the past because of his inconsistency -- giving away potential match winners time and time again (e.g., free-kicks) -- but when the choice is Nelson vs Doc, then I back the Doc. Most worrying thing is that yes these are our better CBs?! If we go up, my opinion is that we should keep Doc, e.g., on the bench as backup, lose Nelson, but get someone in with some pace, if possible at all. If only Doc didn''t wrestle players so much, and if he could gain a bit of pace, he''d be sooo much better.
12. I see you chose to forget you''re a division 2 side. And besides, I don''t think many of our fans are complaining at all -- we''re playing in 25K home matches, great away support and are playing some good stuff. Anyway Mister, my sincere thanks for your vacuous post? And it''s good to see your league position merits your performances. Regards!
13. Cheers for the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OZwp_IxNmY Great stuff... Was watching and was slightly amazed that they say, "Ward for his 24th of the season"... how often do we hear that?!... Hope I didn''t mis-hear that :)
14. I think that''s the possible Norwich team, not Stockport. (sos -- friday sarcasm ;)
