  1. Why not? If Norwich can acquire a player that would otherwise be beyond their means using 'this sort of deal' (the type of deal that secured Gibson and Giannoulis) then surely it is a good thing?
  2. I guess the argument will be 'but what about net spend?' - and they would have a point on that front. What these charts don't show though must be the huge jump in wages the club is paying on player salaries. Will be interesting to see how much of turnover has gone on wages at the end of the year.
  3. I doubt they put all their eggs in the Skipp basket as it was pretty clear early in the window he wasn't coming back. Webber talked about patience in the window and that relates to the new midfielder, better to get an excellent player for 35 games than an average one for 38 games. The club have obviously been in for a few but found it hard to get acceptable terms - will be interesting to see who they eventually land.
  4. Hard to say - I don’t know a huge amount about him to be honest. He is a standout player in Russia, but judging the quality of players in Russia is difficult as the league is really mixed in quality. Ahmed Musa was a stand out player there for example, but really struggled for Leicester. A few Premier League clubs have been interested in Normann but always put off by Rostov being pretty firm in wanting to keep him - the player is getting increasingly vocal about wanting to leave though is seems. Brighton are generally a very good judge of player so the fact they sold him cheaply is a concern (although Hughton was manager at the time and he isn’t always the best with young players and part of the reason Brighton ditched him was he wouldn’t progress youth players). In my eyes, Normann isn’t a ‘home run’ signing and for a potential fee of €14m - he probably needs to be. Not to say he hasn’t got a lot of quality, which he certainly appears to have both technically and physically.
  5. The thing with Normann, who is a talented player, is he is more a box-to-box type than someone who will just sit deep in front of the defence. One of his biggest assets is his ability to dribble with the ball and carry it up the pitch. With players like him and Billing being targets - it does seem like Norwich are not going to have a Skipp style player, but by utilising a three man midfield, look for a couple of players either side of Gilmour to get up and down the pitch. This does make sense in many ways -Gilmour’s best displays for Chelsea were probably in Lampard’s 4-3-3 when he played the role of the deepest defender. Kante played more as an 8 with the role of helping in defence when out of possession. Gilmour probably needs to learn a bit more discipline in playing this way for Norwich rather than Chelsea due to the amount of defending the respective clubs need to do. But Skipp also needed to learn this in his first few games for Norwich. Farke specifically mentioned that Skipp needed to improve his position right at the beginning of last season when the hype was starting to get a bit to big for his liking. An overall package of €16m for Normann seems very high for him. I expect it is the loan part Rostov don’t like - the ‘obligation’ to buy would probably be reliant on Norwich not getting relegated and I can see why Rostov wouldn’t want to take a gamble on that.
  6. Which part of my post suggests Norwich is running a charity?
  7. Agree with some of the OP. I hate the practice of freezing out players as it crashes their value to the club and damages the player’s career unnecessarily. While with Klose it is pretty clear that he just isn’t at the level Norwich need anymore - injuries and time have caught up with him. I would put Sorensen in defence ahead of Klose at the moment. He doesn’t need to be completely frozen out - I saw he was in Switzerland while the rest of the team were training. How does this help anyone? Trybull is a slightly different case - he is still a Championship level midfielder and if Norwich are switching to a three man midfield, his deficiencies in pace and mobility would be mitigated. He is very good at interceptions and in the tackle (regularly coming close to the top in those metrics for the Championship). I can understand that Norwich are looking to sell, but why he can’t be included in the squad like Hugill and Hernandez - two other players the club would be happy to sell - is a bit of a mystery.
  8. It may be that Nizet didn’t want to go on loan and wanted a fresh start somewhere as it looks unlikely he’ll get into the first team at Norwich.
  9. No idea - Rostov made a record sale for them last season which was around £9m. So likely something north of that due to the high regard they have for him, plus he has three more years on his deal.
  10. He left after pushing to go out for first team football. Man U and Southampton both made moves for him last year but Rostov asked for a big fee so walked away. He’s been a bit of a revelation at Rostov but has been asking to leave as he wants to play in a better league. Norwich would be lucky to get him in all honesty.
  11. Proper rumour for a DM. Normann has been pushing to leave Russia for a while now and is expected to go somewhere this summer. He was at Brighton for a couple of seasons but never played for them. Is a good tackler and great in the air.
  12. Newcastle recently had a £12m bid rejected for him - so can’t see that being someone Norwich would be looking at (also he’d probably want to go somewhere a little more established). Private jets from tourist destinations are more than likely going to be tourists. Especially if there haven’t been any rumours of players incoming. Seems unlikely it would get to the point of a player flying to Norwich without some rumours (especially a big signing like Camara).
  13. Farke was pretty clear that he’d only consider Sorensen as a left back in an emergency. Once Xavi was fit again he became the 2nd choice left back and considering the club didn’t want to make his transfer permanent for a couple of million they probably didn’t rate him that highly. Williams makes perfect sense, Norwich need cover at both full back position and he offers great cover and competition for the short term. Mumba and McCallum offer the long term replacements/cover so it isn’t worth spending a large amount on bringing in a player on a permanent contract. Seems Man U and Williams are both content with him coming to be back-up. The club wouldn’t be silly enough to lie about his chances of playing. Also sounds as by waiting until later in the window Norwich have managed to significantly lower the loan fee Man U were originally asking for of £2m for the season.
  14. YouGov make money by carrying out surveys for third parties (in this case SkyBet). You’d have to check their T&Cs to see how much info they sell.
  15. It was carried out by YouGov (as it clearly states). Anyone can register with YouGov to be someone they ask these survey questions to - you complete a profile with information about yourself and if it matches a survey they have been asked to carry out they will contact you.
  16. Don’t need to be international players, just play in the right league or in European competition. PLM isn’t an international and got in off the back of his league appearances, Tzolis got more points for his Europa/Champions League appearances than his Greek caps. Plenty of options out there for centrebacks, the key is finding one that is an improvement on what is already at the club. That is much trickier.
  17. Think it is just more of an expression rather than a hint. Although, I have a feeling Norwich are in a position where they can just push a button to make the Brandon Williams thing happen if they want to, but are holding back to not fill the last loan spot - whether that is Skipp related or not is debatable as there are plenty of other Premier League players who may become available on loan in the next few weeks.
  18. It's normal. I'm not a fan of it and don't do it myself, but trying to compare the internet with the real world is pretty futile - they are different places. Would you have made such a provocative statement about Kenny to a room full of strangers in the real world? I doubt few people here would proclaim their thoughts about Norwich so ferociously and with such certainty to a room full of a couple of thousand strangers in the 'real world'.
  19. It is because McLean gets a lot of unfair stick and the wording of your OP was fairly provocative. If you are going to throw some shade over a Norwich player without some solid reasoning, expect to get some heat for it.
  20. Shameless plug time! I wrote about Josh Sargent here; https://byag.medium.com/josh-sargent-what-is-he-good-for-ba6c95c654ff WyScout, a far more reliable source than Transfermarkt, lists Sargent as playing 500 minutes on the wing (about equally split between left and right) and 500 minutes as an attacking midfielder and 1,500 minutes as a striker. Bremen did often play with two strikers though and Sargent would be the one tasked with dropping deeper. There is also a heatmap that shows that the majority of his touches were in the wide right/central area of the pitch. He was not the main focal point of scoring from Bremen, although ended up their joint top scorer.
  21. Interesting piece on the Athletic about this investment today. Seems the £90m has already been largely spent on the players they have signed and paying off shareholder debts (ie giving money to three other owners). The remainder will be used towards infrastructure improvements that Palace were in the process of building. The new American owner, one of 4 joint owners now at Palace, was drawn to the club due to its location in South London as he has an interest in youth development (he owns an academy in America which recently sold a player to Palace also). There is a little nugget that for any decisions to be made, all 4 joint owners must agree. That sounds like a great recipe for inaction to me.
  22. I saw that as well, while I don't know if there is truth in Garner specifically, it has been heartening to see so many young players this summer that are at 'big clubs' turn down contracts in order to go and play football (or at least get much closer to playing). Mainly at Chelsea where Guehi, Livramento, Simeu have all left to have a better shot at playing. If young players are starting to see the benefit of game time over sitting in academies, then a club like Norwich could really prosper. Personally, I'm not 100% convinced that Garner would be better than what Norwich have already though.
