  1. Fassnacht the problem for me. He's giving no cover to Stacey, who is constantly trying to defend against two players. Also Long is a bit ... er...... When's Gunny fit?? At this juncture I should like to point out that I've always rated Hwang (see my posts if you're interested). He's one of the few players we've got with real class.
  2. https://unherd.com/2023/11/the-bank-of-england-is-out-of-control-andrew-bailey/?tl_inbound=1&tl_groups[0]=18743&tl_period_type=3
  3. Never really took that much notice of the guy before, but as a dispassionate description of how government actually operates this is terrific. Like The Thick Of It but worse
  4. I'd take anything from any news source with a huge pinch of salt. However, from what I've seen there is a movement calling itself Woke which is having huge influence on the way our society is run, particularly in academe, & behaves in the manner described in Cleese's show. It was noticeable they couldn't get anyone to argue the other side (unless you think Cleese was lying, which personally I don't).
  5. Not so. Woke is now a movement with the outlook described in the original post. It might be worth your while to watch the original discussion (something which the Woke movement does not allow). You might be interested to know that one of the interviewees refuting Woke was herself of a left wing persuasion.
  6. I thought she was very hesitant, unsure of herself & rather indecisive. Not the best traits in a referee (but, overall, I've seen worse ones).
  7. Well I can only reply that I have. Plus the goal he scored was very well taken. I do not believe that Idah would have scored that goal - & he's our only alternative presently.
  8. Hwang has not been terrible. With some half decent service he's a useful attacking option.
  9. Maybe too many players in the squad who think they should be in the PL? We're signing too many players with the wrong sort of attitude? I suspect we'd be better off with young players eager & desperate to prove themselves - the young players we've brought in recently have shown much more than the established team members. With one or two motivated older heads around them ( as, for example, Barnes seems to be) I think we'd be doing better. I mean, look at Ipswich, hardly a team full of household names ...
  10. Also watching the scum. Brum are poor, but, my God, how on earth are Ipswich where they are? They look like a pound shop Luton. Unbelievable.
  11. Missed the previous post somehow - I did look 😟
  12. Stress fracture during training (metatarsal).
  13. Why pick 1880? Why pick 1880? Could it be because it suits your case better than 1649, long before the industrial revolution but had similar decade averages to the1970s. The longer the time period the more representative the results. There certainly seems to be an increase since the 70s as shown on the graph which has some lagging correlation to CO2. What's interesting is the individual 'noise' spikes from year to year, - 1740 was as hot as 1990 for example. Weather as against climate. The wettest & worst weather I've seen was in the 1960s. But that's irrelevant. I'm pretty sure there is some anthropogenic effect on global temperature, I'm just not sure it's catastrophic - certainly not sure enough to believe in the impoverishment of much of the world to prevent any increase in global average temperatures.

  15. Yes, I can't see Barnes being happy with the squad mentality at the moment. I can imagine him physically threatening one or two of our players unless they start giving a sh!t. Duffy probably also could, but I think he knows he's finished & can't really be asked any more.
  16. No future No future No future No future for meeeeee ... 😬
  17. Yes, I praised him to the skies when he scored that fabulous goal against Leeds. Then I watched him 2nd half .... he was dog excrement..
  18. I don't think it's one position but both. Replacing Josh with Idah immediately lessened our attacking threat catastrophically, but then to lose Barnes who gave real backbone & morale to the attack (& the whole team) was devastating. If we'd have jus lost Sarge I reckon our goal scoring tally would have dropped but it's more about his work rate & pressure that kept oppositions fully occupied that we missed. Aided & abetted by Barnes' nous & character they didn't allow our opponents much freedom. So losing Sarge puts us at mid-table form, then losing Barnes means there's a greater likelihood of capitulation, which is what we're seeing. Sara & Rowe can't do it on their own. And they're not the sort of players to grab a team by the scruff of the neck & drive them on. And who's been on the bench to replace Onel & Gibbs who would have made a difference? No, we need the two we lost back badly. I have a horrible feeling it's too late now though, morale is awful.
  19. We also lost Barnes. A huge character in the team. I think it was a combination of the two that sent confidence surging through the team. To say losing them both 'hasn't helped' is the understatement of the year - especially when you look at the replacements. A team working well is a really delicate thing. We've all seen teams' form drop dramatically for no really explicable reason. In our case there is s totally obvious one; a really good manager with a really good squad might be able to overcome it, but it's never easy. Look at all the manager's who've gone from hero to zero because they can't get their players to replicate good form. Football's a funny old game, & I don't care what anyone says, it's difficult to predict how things will go, especially for a team operating with our constraints.
  20. It would be interesting to see some stats about our form before we lost Sargent & Barnes compared to afterwards. I suspect they would be very different. Everyone seems to think that taking injuries into account is an 'excuse' but that is palpably ridiculous. Our early season formation clicked, & the players we have now do not. The good form may not happen even after those two return. That's how football goes sometimes. Incidentally I'd also be interested to see the collision that crippled Josh again. I did wonder at the time how much was accidental & how much deliberate.
  21. Over what time scale? https://www.weather.gov/lmk/niu_tornado_frequency_study#:~:text=After removing non-meteorological factors, affect very small geographical areas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunwich Even in my lifetime I can remember some pretty extreme events (winter 1963. I also remember a satellite picture of the USA showing the whole of the centre being one big lake). Climate changes are exceedingly difficult to separate from weather. You need a period of several thousand years to say much of any significance.
  22. Some people you think will last forever, always a shock. But will always be a legend. R.I.P Bobby.
