  1. Clearly it was a waste of money and a poor decision to sign him When injured.

but I have nothing against him. Seems a decent bloke and surely no one can doubt that he’d much rather have been playing than spending all his time receiving treatment and being injured.

Yes I know he would’ve been paid a fortune but I still think it was just a shame for him and the club how it worked out.

  2. Sorry GED, can’t agree with that.

As much as he would’ve enjoyed last season and the adulation he has rightly got, there’s no way that would be enough to keep him if a big club came in with the right job.

apart from his wife also being employed he won’t have anything like the same connection with the club like us fans. Don’t forget at the beginning of the season many of ‘us’ fans were questioning his judgement. Also I expect he was equally chuffed at Huddersfield but showed no issue dumping them for us (a very strange and presumably money/power driven decision given they’d just been promoted).

Ive a lot of respect for the job he’s done here but also accept he’ll move on when the next step in his career is offered. Thankfully the Man U one, in its current guise without the autonomy he will want, isn’t the one. I just pray we get at least one more season to help secure our premier league status.

  3. Expect many will have seen this clip but it really sums up to me why we are top of the league.

yes, we have some wonderful players in the likes of Buendia and Pukki. But what Farke has really brought is passion, togetherness and fight and that’s what’s brought this unexpected success.

He’s shown faith in all the players and backed the younger ones and we are now all benefiting from that.

credit to Ben Godfrey, this is one hell of a recovery run in the 80th minute.

    i just love this team!

  4. Hadn’t heard the interview so that’s good to know.

its an interesting point re other changes. I appreciate the calls to change likes of McClean, Hernandez and Stiepermann. Not because they’re bad players but because the last two are a bit off form and tired and we all know how good Vrancic and Leitner are.

However, now is not the time to panic and we should stick to the style and structure that has brought us such success over the season. I’d bring Buendia back for Leitner and switch Vrancic for McClean.

  5. Like others I’m beginning to worry that we’re struggling for the next win.

Obviously, we all expect Buendia back Monday but this probably goes against Farke’s usual stance of taking time reintroducing players.

Presuming this isn’t a risk given a) haven’t won without him, b)no one has stepped up and replaced him.

Sure worrying over nothing and can’t wait to see a fired up (but not reckless!) Buendia giving a man of the match performance to secure our return to the premier league!

  6. Taking kids to a football match does make you think differently about your own and others behaviour.

Remember taking my daughter to her first game (away v Birmingham) she was absolutely terrified when she heard the noise from the supporters inside the bar area. I just hadn’t thought about how intimidating an atmosphere it is for young kids. It was all good spirits and pre match chanting  but a shock to her.

When I take my young son now I have to be careful with my own language and do wince a bit when I hear some of the more extreme expletives from others around us.

  7. Great post Hank and I agree 100% with that.

Krul has certainly made some big mistakes and probably isn’t as good a keeper as Gunn. But given that we have been playing with an extremely young and inexperienced back four I think he has been very important. I would think his presence and character have been essential during the season. I’m not sure the defence as a whole would have been as strong without someone like Krul.

I’ve no doubt that we will need to look for a new, premiership quality, number one IF we go up. But even then I think Krul will be the perfect back up keeper. A good character in the dressing room and someone to offer support to the new keeper and provide more than adequate back up

  8. All very interesting but the fact is that there are loads of ‘ifs and buts’.

Part of the beauty of football is that it can be so unpredictable and I think that is especially true in the Championship. Even though we are playing brilliantly when I look at our fixtures I don’t see any as being guaranteed wins. The position will also change as we get nearer to the end of the season. Some teams will be fighting for their lives and others might be ‘on the beach’ (but even some of them will play better than expected as they are under no pressure).

its great to look at these predictions and theories but I’m going to be sticking to the one game at a time approach!

  9. I would be really interested to know if we made any enquiries about him coming to us.

wouldve been a handy option but wouldn’t play him above Hernandez or Buendia.

i think he would’ve chosen WBA anyhow, it’s a bit embarrassing to come back to the club you’ve been sold by and admit you weren’t really good enough for your new club....bit like going back to an ex with your tail between your legs!

  10. Good riddance as far as I am concerned.

not sure how people are defending his attitude....his  public disrespecting of Farke in his first game was a disgrace. He’s lucky Farke gave him another chance, I wouldn’t have. Even then he didn’t take it and was just petulant in most games last season.

he has the talent and actually hope he shows it at Reading so he helps us get promoted by scoring against our rivals.

  11. There’s no denying his distribution was very poor yesterday. But is was tough as WBA pressurised us so well. It was so frustrating seeing short pass to Zimmermann, him pressured so returning it to Krul who then lumped it a mile over Arrons head. Happened repeatedly. Partly Krulls fault but being generous didn’t have th Stiepermann alternative and the coaching team need to work on alternatives. The throw to the WBA player was ludicrous and all in the crowd could see it wouldn’t work and Krul himself did a double take before going ahead.

I also wonder what the dynamics are like between him and the defence? Couple of times he appeared to be balling out Godfrey and it seemed a bit unnecessary. But who knows, might have been encouragement. I also have no idea what he got so angry about at end. When he got yellow card and then did a lot of time wasting he risked getting sent off.

BUT having said all that, none of the mistakes led to a goal and he made at least 2 or 3 game saving saves. I think he is a genuinely good keeper but unusually, for a keeper, he is a bit short of confidence so an error and pressure play on his mind.

  12. Makes Hanleys poor decision making in the cup seem even more ridiculous...totally stupid challenge.

Tetty has dropped into CB position before so expect that could happen in an emergency during the game.

WBA will be my first game of the season (apologies for being a plastic 😳) going with my son and really looking forward to it but also a bit worried of the possibility of seeing Wes playing against us (his my sons favourite ever player)

  13. I’m also in the minority of people who really like him as a pundit. He seems honestly passionate about the game and is also great at playing the pantomime villain. It’s good to have diversive characters in the media rather than just the bland former pros.

l’m probably in an even smaller minority of people who liked him as a player. Similar to above he was a niggly little irritant who would hound players and never give up. Not the most talented but always gave everything and caused problems for the team he was playing against. A kind of player you hate as an opponent but would have in your own team.

and, as already mentioned, will be forever grateful for the extra time his slow substitution gave us 😀
