Not really if you have been paying attention to the structural changes to the tactics since Wagner arrived. Playing McLean deep is for when we have the ball, rather than when we don't. The shape of the team is designed for a full and high press when we don't. The result of this is there is no place for a classic DCM. The fan base have an obsession on this position being required for historical reasons. I fully expect that this tactical change will result in the team conceding fewer goals over the season than for many a season. So that isn't going to be the issue, that will be more about scoring them. Btw I see Sorenson getting very little game time this season (again).

I expect you’re right on this (certainly hope you are in terms of conceding less!)

my concern is what happens if McLean is injured or just playing poorly? I guess we’ll turn to Sorenson (who I don’t think is good enough) or Gibbs (I’d actually like to see him get more game time and replace McLean as season progresses).

Probably answered my own question there!

Agree with your summary. Placheta on loan for me. His contract expires next year if memory serves and he’s been surplus to requirements for so very long now. I like where our team is going for now. Be interested to see who else comes in if anyone.

Placeheta has been given fair amount of game time in friendlies and has apparently done 'not bad' (which is faint praise i know). I'm bit surprised he has been used far more than Tzolis. I do wonder if this is to give Wagner one last chance to see if there is anything there before we send him on loan again.

Also has benefit that it puts him in window for other clubs so they can see he is fit and ready to play.

  3. I’ve recently succumbed to paying and don’t regret it.

Got fed up of being teased by the article headlines.

i actually think it’s decent value and I’m quite keen to try and support the local journalist covering Norwich (although do miss Michael Bailey).

As I don’t live in Norwich, reading the articles and this forum help me to still feel closer to the fan base.

  4. Not sure why this is creating such up roar on here.

Yes he had a very good season in league one but I'm not convinced he is up to the standard we need for the Championship. Certainly not as a full back where I dont think he has the required defensive capabilities or the physique.

He came to us from Sunderland I think and was struggling to get in there team in league one and was sent on loan.

Stacey looks like an excellent signing and I expect Mumba is pushing for the move because he wants to play first team football and not just be a temp stand in at wing or full back.

It could be one we live to regret but for me it seems unfair on him not to let him go to Plymouth

Buendia's feistiness was mainly caused by irritation with his own poor play, a veritable rush of blood to the head. Whereas Barnes' seems more calculated than that (as was WFLGH before him). It breaks play up and allows the team around him to regather their thoughts.

completely right, Buendia's petulance was often to the detriment of his and the team's performance. In contrast with Holt (and potentially Barnes) it was a real positive. He would wind up the opposition and it would lead to them making mistakes or committing fouls which was to our advantage. I always loved how within a few seconds Holt would go from looking like a man who could happily hold off the entire opposition players to one who could be blown over by a small breeze (all done with a knowing wink/smile to the crowd and the opponent!)

  6. Appears I'm pretty alone in liking it then!

I think part of the problem is the need to 'reinvent' the kit every year and let's be honest it's a particularly hard sell when your kit is yellow - does anybody ever wear any of our home kits when not attending a game?

I do think the club should seriously consider going back to alternating each year between a new first and reserve kit (and do away with the 3rd that we really dont need as so few teams play in yellow). They could ''sell' this as part of the renewed attempt to connect with fans and recognise many people have more important calls on their income than a new over priced football top.

Does anyone have any idea what sort of profit the replica shirts actually bring in? I cant imagine it makes that big a difference to our transfer strategy and expect could even be made up by a more innovative approach to our leisure wear range.

  7. Doesn’t sound very hopeful does it,

I’ve a lot of respect for what delia has done for the club over the years but if we are to progress then we really need new owners. It’s not just about the amount of money they can invest (but that is crucial) but also the way the club needs to be run.

She needs to go soon with her reputation intact and not hang on damaging both her legacy and the club

Idah is still young, but another question is what will help develop him morethis season, playing backup to Sargent and Barnes, or going on loan,.perhaps with caveat he gets to start?

He'll get game time with us, and clearly our club rate him by giving him a very long contract, but surely every player wants to be playing regularly.

He’s not still young though is he?

22 isn’t a young player,  by now he should be an established player.

He just isn’t good enough for a championship team. We should loan him out and then sell him

I hope we dont rely on the likes of Hernadez all season, for me he just isnt quite at the level a top championship team need to be at (lucky we are a mid-table champ team) 😉

I think in order Tzolis to have a good season he would need a run of games which Im not sure we can afford the gamble currently, but I think a revision is needed of his position in order get the best out of him. I dont see him as a winger.

For me this is what pre season and the friendlies are for and the results are not important.

These are the games where the likes of Tzolis, Plachetta, Rowe, Springett, Mumba and Idah etc should be demonstrating to Wagner that they are the players who should be given the chance in the team (or at least the squad).

I gather that Tzolis and Plachetta made a decent enough start last night but in reality against a team like Barnett their quality should shine (even if performance isn't up to speed due to fitness/sharpness).

For this reason I was a bit disappointed that Smith didn't give Hugil more of a chance at the beginning of last season after what was actually a great pre season (not saying he should've started instead of Pukki/Sargent but he should have been used ahead of likes of Idah).
