Just put a tenner on Gus Poyet at 8/1, I think he''s worth a shout. For me the favourites are - Hughton and Poyet. Then possibly Lee Clark and the boy Malky. Then a whole herd of no hopers. Mind you it will probably be someone completely off radar like the guy who seems to have landed the Swansea job!

Malky did a  damn good job at Watford  who were in serious financial troubles and he had to make do with younsters and bosman signings. At Cardiff he inherited the Dave Jones squad which was then dismantled and, again, he had ...''to make do''. Last season they only just lost the Carling Cup on penalties and got to the play offs! Not a bad record I''d suggest. Malky will be a top manager in the game, if he''s interested we would be totally stupid to pass that chance up.  

We all said the same about Deehan being the ''brains'' behind Walker in that partnership. Look what happened when Deehan was promoted. Good No 2''s very rarely make it as the ''gaffer'' - that requires a completely different mentality. Culverhouse as ''manager''? Er - sorry, not for me.

It''s very disappointing that the testimonial is being totally hijacked by the contiuning speculation about Lambert and more so with the totally out of the blue transfer request from Holt. Holt is no fool, he knew the Celtic match was only days away and also knew that many fans would be a tad ''annoyed'' at his action (whatever the reasons). No way will I take part in any booing for the well documented reasons re Holt''s contribuiton over three great years. However, there will be a few who do give him some verbals and that will detract from the occasion. I can''t think of any reason why he had to put in a request anyway - his agent will have told clubs of his ''availability''. Unless this is all some cleverly stage managed game (which I doubt) I think Holt has handled this very badly.

[/quote] Great post Shaker - I know the match was in the Bayern stadium who had about 3/4 of the fans but the lack of any noise from the Londoners until the equaliser was shocking. Even when Chelsea attacked (which was rare) their ''fans'' failed to rouse themslves out of their bored slumber.   It was the same in the FA Cup Semi Final v Spurs, all the noise came from the Tottenham end which is why I was backing the Germans last night. I had a very dear friend who died a couple of years ago who was lifelong Tottenham and you can say what you like, Spurs play football the right way and their fans haven''t been spoilt by having a billionaire buy countless trophies for them hence Spurs fans are still far more in tune with the ''real football fan'' than those who purport to ''support'' Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd. Chelsea - Champions of Europe? My God they are the worst team to land that tin pot for many a long year!

The boy Zak has allegedly been offered £40k (!!) per week at Sunderland. I rated Zak highly - our best center back by some distance (when fit of course!). Hell of a gamble by MON - Zak doesn''t do run of the mill, out fir a week type injuries. When he''s out, he''s gone for months. MON won''t like that. Has short sympathy for regularly injured players (again, allegedly you understand). We need an experienced center back to come in and provide organisation and leadership and to help steady the two unproven youngsters.

Lerner will pay PL a lot more and ''promise'' him a war chest. Like Fat Man Chase in 1995 though, that promise may turn out to be rather hollow, PL will find out in good time. I hope he reflects calmly on his long drive back along the A14 that he is giving up a damn good thing here for much expectancy and financial uncertainty at Villa Park. Unfortunately though the fact is that the job IS a  perceived step up and he probably feels that it will be very difficult to emulate this season again should he decline the job. PL will end up at Villa Park - I think it''s been a done deal for sometime now.   

It''s not so much losing PL that worries me. If that happened, the FCR vacancy would be one of the most sought after in the English game, there is no doubt aboout that. No, I''m not saying anything about us being ....''a big club'' or similar such rubbish. Just that there is a damn good squad of players here, damn good fan base (which is nowhere near as fickle as most other clubs), debt on the way down, a much more professionally managed business now that The Cook has basically ''retired'' from meaningful day to day involvement and we are held in very high regard by many top people in the game. No - what would scare me is the fact that PL would come back and raid FCR for quality players - look at Fox and Tierney as examples, Russell Martin as well. If truth be told, I think a number of our players would jump at the chance to team up again with ......''the gaffer''. Look at Howson - that boy could turn out to be one of our best ever signings. Quite why a top six club failed to take him is beyond me. Has he any loyalty to Norwich as  a club, city or place to live? Of course not!  Has he loyalty to PL though as the manager who got him to The Premiership? You bet he has!! Test for the boy McNally would be if he could (immediately) land a damn good replacement. Whether the guy he had lined up a long time ago now is still ''available'' we may be about to find out.

Wow - that was some match and occasion! Yellow Rider (and YR junior) were fortunate to secure access to the Aviva corporate box (offer via work) so made the trip to the stadium for the first time with trepidation but also some excitement as we couldn''t defend as badly as last week, could we?? The stadium from the outside is strange in some ways - a vast glass, concrete circular bowl - it all looked the same. Having said that the ground (and walkways outside) are draped in drawings, pictures, tributes etc. to the greats of the past. Now I''m no fan of Arsenal, quite the reverse in fact. Wenger may be a good coach producing teams of sublime quality but his behaviour and comments over the years have been disgraceful to be honest. Fact remains though that with 13 league championships and 10 FA Cups under their belt, today we took on one of the most famous clubs in the world. That club absolutely drips with tradition and heritage.       Most of the party we were with were Yellows and the view we had immediately behind the North Bank end was awesome. After less than two minutes heads were in hands - why is it that we stand off attackers down our right back area, show them inside and they seem to almost leisurely curl in a goal into the far top corner!! Within minutes though it was clear that the team were up for the challenge and with Arsenal thinking they could stroll through, it was no surprise when a sweeping move saw Wes slide in the equaliser (hash up by the keeper though). Equally, though, no surprise either when the boy Holt pounced albeit with a massive deflection that saw the ball sail over the keeper, I was up way before the ball hit the net as it was a goal all the way! Second half saw Arsenal seriously stepping up the pace after what must have been the mother of all bollockings from the Frenchman! Even then Jackson spurned a gilt edged chance (and that''s why he must be moved on in the summer) to put us 3-1 up. The siege of the North Bank then set in with an amazing array of great defensive blocks, last gasp clearances and some seriously poor misses by Arsenal. The so called ''Library'' exploded with their two goals - some library!!   A lot of stuff was kicking off and Wes needlesly got a booking whilst Morison could easily have walked after two clear bookable offences. Holt was taken off before he could be sent off and it was frantic action all the way. Once we actually got the ball down and moving again late on I knew there was another goal in us and what a finish by the boy Morison!       It was a brilliant day and the team were an absolute credit. We can compete with anyone when we''re ''right at it'', anything less and we are no more than ''ordinary''. Defensively we were much tighter with Rusell Martin in the middle, Naughton at right back and a conventional left footer at left back! Marching back down to Finsbury Park, YR was proud, very proud to be ''all yellow''. To take a point at that stadium and against 55,000 fans was a stunning performance. Lets hope we can ''turn up'' against Villa and end the home matches on a high note. Today will live long in the YR memory bank that''s for sure!

There was a home match a month or so back and they went a couple of goals down and each time a goal went in there was a storm of booing and abuse. I''ve said it before - I don''t condone booing as I''ve said above but you need to take off your ''politically correct'' glasses and experience what happens at other clubs. Believe me FCR is a ''walk in the park'' for home players and manager compared to elsewhere!  Oh and if Morison is getting the bird from a very small number of fans then perhaps he should look at himself and the way his body language portrays itself to the paying public. Absolutely NIL chance I''m afraid! Old man Redknapp will bring in his London based favourites if he gets the job whilst Pearce would have brought Holt into the squad for the last friendly if he rated him. Sure GH has scored goals but unless he is right on top of his game and focused then he can look very ordinary indeed. At 31 I think the view outside Norfolk (pundits like Stan Collymore excepted) is that he''s a ''one season wonder''.

I was in Row 4 and pretty close to Morison at the time.What happened was that a cross came in and Ward (who played the last 10 minutes at least up front as another forward) got some space but unfortunately got goalside of the ball and ended up heading the ball away from goal. Now, I''m no lip reader but it was pretty clear that Morison said something like.............''What! What the .... was that!''  He was not having a go at the fans but at one of his own colleagues. I''m sorry but that''s totally unjustified and only confirms my view that Morison has become a ''loner'' at the club. Like him or not, when / if he plays again, try watching his body language and communication. Then contrast that with the other players. Then you''ll see why PL must ship him out in the summer. Nothing to do with ability. Everything to do with teamwork and attitude.

The boy Howson is quality (and I mean proper quality). He''s not played that many games for us yet and is still probably not quite 100% match fit after that injury lay off. I think he needs some quality alongside him though to shoulder some of the creativity. Thats'' where Wes comes in and he brings the best out of Howson.
