One of the many reasons why a player may excel at one club but not at another is the dynamic of the club he is at.  A player may find himself lower in the pecking order at one club and thus feel under more pressure when on the pitch.  A player that has grafted and won the love of the fans and playing at his best at one club, might find it harder to recreate that scenario at another.
In Marshall''s case the proof of the pudding will be how he adapts to the new situation, how well he keeps his positivity and self-belief to work hard to be at his best again.   Then, once on the pitch, maybe in a cup game, or on as a sub, to make it count.  He is a good player, obviously, but he has to learn, adapt and then when he gets another chance be ready to take it.   As others have said, if he isn''t up to that and can''t recreate his best form, he won''t stay long.

Putting Saturdays performance aside, Steipermann has been pretty poor and hasn''t demonstrated being up to it as you put it. However he''s not been shipped out, and instead been given more than his fair amount of chances.

  2.
Farke and his system is here to stay, as is the organisation of the club under Webber, and rightly so because it is quite clear that we are making progress to anyone who actually watches the games, as opposed to listening to them or reading about them.

We have a squad this season full of bright and talented players, all of whom are desperate for a chance. Our bench yesterday was very strong and gave the coach tremendous flexibility.

I genuinely think we are about to take off and I think part of the reason is that no one rates us. Boro were totally surprised yesterday - they thought they would just turn up and do a Leeds on us, but that Leeds game was so badly reported as a "thrashing" when it wasn''t, that anyone who wasn''t actually there would assume we were completely outclassed - we weren''t. Wolves outclassed us last season but Leeds are nowhere near as good as them.

This league is as wide open as ever.
Well Paddy Davit clearly disagrees, because that''s exactly what he likened the Leeds game too.

You can''t disregard peoples opinion that little to no progress has been made. People will have different parameters for progress. And even the most staunch Farke fan will struggle to demonstrate tangible evidence for improvement.

Its all nice and rosey to say "bright, talented players" and "bench full of tremendous flexibility" but what is it actually translating to? A team in more or less exactly the same position as last year!

We still have similar flaws too, most notably striking the correct balance between attack and defence. There is potential there for improvement, but then again there was last year and we failed to realise it by selling Pritchard and waving the white flag in January.

  3. But that’s the point. Watkins is delivering at Bristol City, and did so at Barnsley.

Why did it not happen here?

Ben Marshall delivered at Millwall, and did so at wolves and Blackburn. He needs to be given a chance to deliver, which so far he hasn’t.

You can’t rule out Farke being part of the issue at this stage.

"another Marley, who incidentally assisted the winning goal for Brizzle yesterday.

    "
so heading the ball into the net is assisting a goal ?
and given that there was only the one goal scored it hardly qualifies as the winning goal - the goal would be more accurate
How is ‘the goal’ in a game that finishes 1-0, anything but the winning goal?

    What a stupid statement.

  5. We’ll b back,

I suppose there is some critism in there. I’m far from sold on Farkes tactics, team selections and man management skills. However he clearly got it right yesterday, and does finally appear to be settling on a preferred nucleus of a first team.

However, Ben Marshall was probably our top signing this summer and I hope we get see him play. He’s got bags of talent and could be a big player for us.

I’m sure like many, I don’t want to see another Marley Watkins situation materialise. And as good as Stiepermann was yesterday and Hernandez has been, they’re both not consistently good enough to keep Marshall out from getting fair crack in his preferred postion.

  6. Interesting one. Awesome last year at Millwall, previously very good at this level with Blackburn. Yet his start here shares similarities with Marley Watkins.

Marshall isn’t a right back. But is a talented attacking wide player.

IMO he could rotate with Hernandez, or Stiepermann with Buendia going central. I really hope Farke gives him a fair opportunity and he doesn’t become another Marley, who incidentally assisted the winning goal for Brizzle yesterday.

  7. Progress? That performance has been long over due, but we’re in more or less the same position as we were at this stage last year. With similarly sporadic results and performances.

So in the grand scheme of things the answer is probably no, we aren’t showing signs of progression.

  8.
Also special mention for Stiepermann. He was brilliant today. His best showing in a City shirt by a country mile.
I’m a massive critic. I just don’t see what he is, or what he brings.

Sounds like today he might have finally been played in the correct postion, and thus we see what he is actually capable of.

    Great result City.

  9. Such a poor midfield with Tettey and Stiepermann.

    Farke wants the sack.

Really annoyed Marshall isn’t getting a look in. It’s like Marley Watkins all over again. Comes to us on fire and then regresses and bench warms.

Stiepermann is so poor.. can’t believe he starts.

  10.
Lincoln, what I don''t understand is how you know what our attendance numbers would have been, or will be, but you''re not picking winning lottery numbers to guve us a bigger transfer fund?
So using a trend to rationalise a likely outcome is the same as correctly picking 6 random numbers?

    Ok then.

I think you''ve got a bit confused. The section on the web site that says ''Reading Material'' is actually books.

Post of the year? Easy audience!

  12.

They''re bottom of the league, playing awful football with an unproven manager and a strike force literally from league 2, 15k attendances and havent beaten their rivals in 10 years nearly.

Yet theres more pessimism on here. Go figure.
Yet they''re only 2 points behind us, and after an even first half, dominated the game for large spells of the 2nd.

I think the point is that some people are completely delusional if they think we are still streets ahead of them.

Yes we hate Ipswich. But if your going to laugh at them for being so poor, you have to admit the joke is on us too.

Norwich and Ipswich are both similarly sized clubs. If we are still in the championship in 10 years time, our attendances will be no different to theirs currently.

We''ve enjoyed the recent supremacy over them. Just like they did over us in the late 90s to mid 00''s. But we''re both now back on par, and both underachieving.
If you''re going to claim that they dominated the second half, then we dominated the first.
So we agree, we''re pretty evenly matched.

  13. ICF;

The two seasons before promotion in 03/04 we had a run to the play off final, and another season finishing 8th. Those three seasons, along with a 4th in the premiership, and a 5th season as favourites in the championship caused the growth in our attendance.

Attendances we''re starting to fall after that, albeit slowly. The relegation actually helped to stop the slide, and install a new sense of optimism at the prospect of a season winning most games. That helped the attendances, and then with winning runs, Lambert and the feel good factor, Attendances were back up.

Last season and this season has been mediocre. Attendances are starting to drop, albeit slowly again. If this season goes the same way as last, expect to see 23-24k attendances in March and April for some games.

  14.
Sorry Lincoln but that attendance bit is simply untrue. Go back to our league one season 09/10 we averaged 24. 6k that season to Ipswich 20k in the league above.

If you really believe we are on par with them then you are in a good position to capitalise as not many agree with you (nationwide) for example

Norwich to be relegated most bookmakers are round the 9/1 mark currently. Compared with 1/50 to be relegated.

Ipswich to stay up around 11/8 compared with 8/15 to go down

With regards to the game Ipswich it always makes me laugh how a general consensus seems to be that "form goes out of the window in a derby" until of course we fail to beat them that is - in which case its suddenly a certain indicator that we are as bad as them.
That league one attendance thing was impressive, but it wouldn’t have lasted another season if we’d not gone up. Also if we’d had 10 years or more in the champ and then relegated to league one, there would be absolutely no way we’d have achieved those figures.

  15.
You do realise the seiason is only 6 games in, don''t you? Talking about league positions/being this or that far ahead or behind is bonkers. One win (or defeat) changes your position by c10 places at this stage.
Last season?

  17. Norwich and Ipswich are pretty much evenly matched. Like it or not, our recent results against other and league form and postion add weight to this.

It’s laughable how some on here think we are miles ahead of them still. It just isn’t the case at the moment.
Webber sees us as a feeder club.

He''s motivated by negotiating big deals. Signing for pennies and making a big profit. Listen to his comments around the Maddison deal, his delight at being a big part in the negotiations was tangible.

Proportionally we are under investing in the first 11, and any ambition to build a side capable of promotion is more than questionable. There is no immediate plan or motivation for a return to the Premier League. That much is clear.

The biggest concern is this lack of ambition filtering through the club, resulting in our young stars forming the mind-set that Norwich is merely a steeping stone to bigger and better things. And when this happens, you''ve got no chance of building anything successful on the pitch.

I liked it under McNally and Bowkett, when we invested in the first team. When results on the pitch where high priority. And for the first time in Norwich''s history, we weren''t a selling club!
Total gibberish. Of course Webber would be delighted with the Maddison deal - anyone who is realistic about our club would be. Why do you assume there is no ambition? Why?  Because we sold players? The Maddison and Murphy money has been put to good use,  balancing the books and putting together a good balanced squad.  And your view that we stopped being a selling club for a while, that is plain rubbish - all clubs sell players, even Man City.  Also the view in hindsight is that we should not have spent all our money on the players in the PL - it turned out to be shortsighted. I don''t now where people get all this negatve stuff from, it''s as if they delight in being negative.
Being accused of talking gibberish by LDC is the height of irony.

110% of your posts are complete gibberish.
