  1. Like Steven Defour or Diego Capel to make people really sit up and look at us. Van Wolfswinkle at £8.5m looks an absolute bargain in the current climate. Compare it Steven Fletcher or Matt Jarvis (both £10m+) that really was shrewd business by us. Shame we seem to miss the boat on Van Ginkel looks good for Dutch Under-21s but he seems Chelsea/Man Utd bound but we should still try and convince him to come here. Curtis Davies looks set to join Hull and Everton now seem interested in Redmond. Ok they are both decent enough players but do they really take us to the next level? Redmond is potential and not proven, he will take time to develop. Even Gary Hooper ok again better than what we have but i want us to show real ambition. Dragovic at Basel would be a massive signing, do we need a centre-back, possibly not and we could cope but again its about taking us to the next level and he is better than Micahel Turner. He looks like a potential ''Vidic'' in the making. At 22 he would have massive re-sale value. Capel and Defour both not yet peaked in terms of age and have massive potential. They excite me. Forget the 8 players coming in, we need two or three more real quality players.
  2. If one of these were our second signing after RVW then i would be delighted. Full of pace and know where the back of he net is.
  3. Finished 11th, debt free, strengthened the team with likes of Bassong and Snodgrass, won FA Youth Cup and signed Van Wolfswinkle whose just scored tw goals already tonight in Sporting''s last game Money to burn for new transfers!
  4. Has to be worth a look? Callum Mcmanaman looks top draw as well but has a number of suitors
  5. If we stay up seems inevitable with Kamara going back, if not two! Van Wolfwinkel and Holt/Becchio and you need four good strikers. No guarentee Holt or Becchio will still be here
  6. Not good enough, you can blame negative tacticsor a poor midfield but he is not Premiership material. Works hard yes but sadly by signing him we are effectively saying we are happy for another scrappy season at the bottom. Houghton needs at least one if not two more strikers for me, our worst area by a mile.
  7. Nani is on wages close to 100k he will be going to likes of Anzi. Isco fantastic player but he will be much sought after by Euro elite, well beyond our aspirations. For me we need to target players in Van Wolfswinkel mould, i.e. young, already there on ability who will improve our team and have re-sale value. Leo Baptisto is a good shout. Dragovic at Basel is colossal and would lovw him with Bassong. From the Dutch league i would love us to sign Bruno Martins-Indi who is already a Dutch international. Can play at left back as well. Also Adam Maher or van Ginkel at Vitesse.
  8. Would like to see Curtis Davies here, I really rate the guy. There was a reason he once went for £10 million. If we can can get him fairly cheap, i.e. under £3m that is good business. The one I would really like us to sign is Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic who is only 22 has Europa League experience and has 14 caps for Austria already. He has the potential to become a top, top defender. Wont come cheap but if we can show ambition then £6m would be a real coup. Andros Townsend around £5m may be a good addition. Really has developed and matured as a player, the stint at QPR will have really helped him, can Tottenham really find a place for him?
  9. Would you? Ok wages are probably a bit top heavy but he is a proven goalscorer who is good in the air. An ex scummer but say you could pick him up for about £8m that would make a formidable partnership. We are debt free (come season end) and if we offload Jackson, Barnett, Ward etc thats probably close to 25k per week saved anyway. Darrent Bent + Ricky Van Wolfswinkel - that is leaving the dream with Holt as an impact player.
  10. I would say no, as much as i like him and as much as he seems to be good to have around the camp and puts a good shift in, im concerned at his lack of end product at the highest level. We need bigger aspirations, we are now debt free at end of season with the largest pay cheque we will ever receive. Van Wolfswinkel at £8.5m is a step in the right direction. £2m is still a lot of money, id rather spend a bit extra, maybe £5-6m again and take a calculated risk on someone who could be the next Benteke. If at the start of next season our strike force was Kamara, RVW, Holt and Becchio id be desparately dissapointed. Where are the goals going to come from?
  11. Morty would you accept only two more new faces in summer in addition o Wolfswinkel? If you accept them as squad fillers there wont be any more room?
  12. Assuming Elliott Ward, Leon Barnett, Chris Martin are going who else do you think may go? In the current 25 man squad we have Leon Barnett, David Fox, Simeon Jackson, Jacob Butterfield, Andrew Surman and Kei Kamara. That is six players potentially who may not be involved next year and deemed surplus to requirements. Van Wolfswinkel means 5 places up for grabs, it would appear we may sign a centre- back in Curtis Davies or Dragovic of Basel leaving four places. Houghton obviously wants to strengthen midfielder with a winger, attacking midfielder and maybe holding player not to mention another striker perhaps?
  13. Agreed Zema talks rubbish on this forum, we have just won and yet a small minded, uneducated fan wants to sit behind his kryboard and spin negativity. What is it with some people? Get behind your team you idiot and talk football. Either that or get a girlfriend, dont bring your hate of the world to the forum!
  14. Both have to start for me on Saturday in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation. Even at the weekend against Arsenal either Holt or Kamara were drifting out wide. If we dont start with two up front then there is no attacking intention or desire to win a game. Kamara has been great in parts but maybe he is more of an impact player off the bench. Has he got that ruthless streak in front of goal? Im not so sure, especially if the most he can score in a MLS season is 11 goals from 35 games. Becchio and Holt are old score centre forwards. We add Bassong and Turner in the mix from corners/set pieces and we look a massive threat.  We are not good enough to play through the middle, thats why Hoolahan at times has limitations. We lack pace up front so the throughball is of little value. Some of our best times like our win at Tottenham away last year is when we play with width (that day Pilkington and Elliott Bennet). The key is getting the balls out wide and get the balls in the box straight away and Holt and Becchio there to pounce on it. Thats how we create chances not outplaying teams with fine passing, that is not our strengths. Defensively we are stronger these days but as for attacking flair we lack all imagination. If Pilkington is fit he has to be play and then Snodgrass also. Failing Pilkington then Bennett has to play with Tettey and Johnson in the midfield to shore up the ship.
  15. All but maybe Wellbeck would benefit from first team football, why not? Sinclair be great addition and now a forgotten man
  16. Be happy with either Danny Graham or Gary Hooper. Also Curtis Davies as defensively we still look vulnerable and he offers pace, leadership and experience. Ryan Bennett does not seem ready at the moment and looks like a rabbit in headlights Would also take a loan of.any one of Tom Huddlestone, Scott Sinclair, Aaron Ramsey or Danny Welbeck
  17. Just imagine if we managed to secure Danny Graham and Gary Hooper to add to Grant Holt. With a midfield of Snodgrass, Pilkington, Hoolahan we will be spoilt for choice going forward. In Chris Houghton we trust! Just need to get rid of Steve Morisson and Simeon Jackson and then maybe another top class centre-back to partner Bassong and provide competition for Turner.
  18. Against Chelsea I thought we played very well just looked too exposed defensively. Putting Bradley Johnson on wide left of midfield left was a poor choice. Javier Garrido was offered no protection whatsoever and Ivanovic and Mata had a field day. My team against Arsenal at home would be the following;- Ruddy Martin Bassong Barnett Garrido Fox Bennett Tettey Howson Pilkington Holt For me Fox can help the defence out. I actually thought Hoolahan played well but struggle to find room in midfield without allowing Arsenal to dominate and dictate.  What is clear is that we need a real linchpin defensive midfielder and another partner to Bassong. Barnett''s positioning at times is poor but whose better? Ryan Bennett is not there yet and not ready in my opinion.
  19. Right lets forget all the people who will over react to the moaners but while friendly''s are exactly what their title suggests, its clear from last season alone we struggled in front of goal. Only changes to personnel are that Aaron Wilbraham has left and Chris Martin (deemed surplus to requirements) is back. Grant Holt excellent but do we have a really prolific scorer at the highest level. Quite clearly the answer is no. For people who believe James Vaughan is like a new signing, yes that is true but lets forget the bloke is almost made of glass so to rely on him for a whole season is naive and ignorant. Jackson is an impact player who for all his work-rate I am not sure has the consistency, but let him prove us wrong. That said we need competition and quite frankly Grant Holt is guarenteed a starting birth and thas not how it should be. We need to splash the cash and hopefully we will get a marquee signing. Im also worried about our defence. Kyle Naugton gone and only Turner in, for me thats possibly worse than last year. Turner a great signing but we still have arguably worst defence in league still. Im a little surprised by Ayala going if no one is coming in as Leon Barnett is not good enough and neither is Ward (you only had to see him at Fulham away to see this). So that leaves us with a young Ryan Bennett still learning his trade and Turner. For me we need Curtis Davies to partner Turner and provide competition with Bennett and then get either Kyle Naughton or Ryan Bertrand on loan.
  20. I am still waiting for him to do the Fozzy Flick? Anyone else miss it while he was here?
  21. Yes and he is prob lower class Prem defender, worse than Whitbread
  22. Will prob be next to sign after the terrible capture of Whittaker. Since when has Scottish football ever been competitive. Stephen Hughes, Ian Murray and Steven Smith played top end and looked terrible in lower leagues, Jelavic at Everton being an inception. We finished 12th last season, where is the ambition. Also why 4 years? Incompetence at its best, three years at 28 max! We need to splash cash for Naughton, Nathanial Clyne, Curtis Davies - not this rubbish
  23. Yes please! If we make this first signing I would be very happy. With Birmingham in trouble financially and us in desperate need of a quality CB he is the ideal choice. Him and Bennett would be an excellent pairing at the back. Curtis Davies or Stephen Caulker (If we can take him on loan from under noses of Swansea) and either Nathanial Clyne/Kyle Naughton and we''ll be laughing.
  24. Sorry genuinely was a typo! Not with it this morning! Thinking about Paul Lambert and Brendan Rodgers at same time not good! Not like that ;-)
