1. Would be too annoyed if he went for the younger lads considering the accies youth policy of late. However I do think it''s also probably a bit of lazy journalism In the respect that he''s always going to want to work with favourites that he knows inside and out. He''s always looked at those type of players because he''s had no choice in the matter...I''m sure the board and scouts have already identified possible players for each position, now up to AN to decide who and what he wants.
2. Yes for me. I want footballers that can help us win games and I think he''s good enough. I would be interested to see what actually happened with regards to him not playing under adams and how much truth was in the rumours. At the end of the day of AN thinks he deserves a chance then we should respect that as we haven''t exactly had the most stable defence of late
3. We have 2 good enough right backs in Whittaker and Martin. Personally I think we are crying out for another winger. Gone through the first half of the season with redmond and the occasional appearance from Murphy/lafferty/grabban when really we need 3 quality ones fighting for the 2 places. I remember how good bennett was pre injury and I just hope he might be able to rediscover that form on the right side for us. Also believe neil operates with a 4231/4141 according to the hamilton forums, using the width of the pitch with wingers.
4. I was under the impression our structure allowed for manager, ASM and a first team coach? Would hope phelan would fill that role as he has done with adams?
5. It''s hard to not get excited from the way he talks in his interviews. Carries himself really well and has a strict and set idea of exactly what he wants. With regards to bassong I think he''s a quality player and one more than good enough to be involved in our squad despite what''s happened. Hopefully he will give him and elliot bennett a fresh start as well as seeing VOO in the side.
6. For me it would be Alex Tettey. If you watch him off the ball he''s always screaming at players to maintain position, running to give then a high 5 and just generally geeing the team up. I always like a midfield captain as centre of everything.
7. They have to travel down to bournemouth today so surely that''s why?
8. I quite like the way he has spoken in the lateast interview on the website, particularly saying about the amount of control he wants. Neil Adams seemed to want ''help'' from technical directiors/senior coaching staff etc, so was he playing his own tactics or other people''s? Same with the signings? I believe at hamilton Neil was in control of the youth teams as well as the senior set up, so he could monitor all the players possible himself rather than going on other people''s opinion.
9. Couple of points: Phelan will take charge saturday I full expect Neil to be given the job after that game. He''s said himself he will be joining Norwich as a manager only and not a player. With regards to young players. Hamilton seem to rely heavily on youth due to the fact they have a tiny budget, however if he believes youth players are good enough and he has the faith then let''s see them. Personally I think given the option to sign his own players With the desired quality now he will do. I think phelan will opt for: Ruddy Whittaker martin cuellar olsson Tettey Howson Johnson redmond Hooper jerome Personally I would select: Ruddy Whittaker turner bennett olsson E bennett Johnson Tettey redmond Howson Jerome
10. Seems strange/positive we''ve gone for him straight away. They must see something in him in his small career as manager. Let''s do this!
11.
Are we signing him as a player? If so I wonder what the transfer fee will be and if this will be as cheap an option as we might think.
Believe he''s on a year rolling contract as a player so we will have to pay a small fee as technically out of contract in the summer.
12. Happy/optimistic with this one. No stand out managers out of a job at all. Nobody obvious that screams come and get me. To a degree Im happy the board have made a decision so soon and just gone with it. Sherwood''s/phelans have less managerial games under the belt than he does despite the age. Seen lots of people suggestion his aggressive organised nature, just what we need. Let him get his feet in the door before casting your opinion, was exactly the same with lambert.
13. Karl Robinson for me. Doing well at mk dons, young hungry manager. No real outstanding canditates but money talks so could tempt someone bigger
14. It''s a no from me......But who is really? Missed out on some good managers with experience in the past few weeks and I wouldn''t say there''s an outstanding candidate available given the selection unless were looking into Europe like we failed to do last time. All this about being fergusons number 2, Ferguson was the genius in that set up. I remember René Meulensteen Was his assistant for 5 years and he hasn''t had the best managerial career. Phelan is his own man with his own tactics so he could well prove a big success.
15. Id like to see redmond and bennett in the team. As good as hoolahan is at this level I Can''t see the point in trying to completely change the tactics of the team and dropping 1 of the 2 forwards playing well together that have helped us to 7 points from 9 games. And let''s be honest we really deserved 3 at Derby.
16. Think he''s our best forward by quite a way. Been unlucky with injuries and had the ''Scottish league is easy'' & ''rubbish in the premier league'' on him this season, both undeserved IMO. Not fat, lazy of careless as ive seen/heard from other fans, actually works incredibly hard and does a great job dropping deep to lay a ball off and make his way into the box with a good and clever run. Will score/assist plenty and will be one of the first names on the team sheet in future.
17. Whoever thinks martin is a genuine centre back need to be considering adams position more then. Why sign hoiveld miguel and cuellar yet persists with martin? Ridiculous.
18. I don''t think people really understand gary hooper is a finisher, it''s what he does. He hangs around the box most of the game waiting for those type of chances. Grabban may cover 2/3 times the ground chasing loose ends but Id much rather have hooper waiting to stick chances in the net
19. Hooper any day of the week. Feel a bit sorry for him really, been injuried on and off and never got proper run of games in the side regularly. Had to play as a loan striker in that absolutely tactically terrible set up last season which flattered no forward players. Getting a little fed up of watching grabban run around to get the ball and then panic when he gets in a goalscoring position. Hooper did show his qualities off the bench and more than deserves a run
20. Like the first post said. We have to base our squad around a goalscorer. Can''t just stick decent footballers together and hope they all excel. Holt a prime example since he''s left. Never got the role he needed at wigan after being the vocal point for us, now back in a similar role playing good football for huddersfield. Same as hooper. Hes a quality finisher and was brilliant at celtic regardless of the quality of league. Unless he''s given a run in a similar role we can''t judge how good he is. Everyone knows last season was a complete joke tactically and it was always going to make the forwards look terrible chasing lost causes with no support. All this about being lazy is complete rubbish. Id much rather see hooper than grabban. Get the work rate from him but isnt a natural finisher by any means.I fail to see why hooper isn''t starting every week when we create 15 a game and only seem to be able to stick 1 away!
21. Highly doubt they''d rush an assistant manager/coach down the day the international break starts 🙈
22. after watching the sheffield game, like others its pretty obvious were crying out for a natural finisher. as much as i admire grabban and his work rate his finishing is to be desired. scored 6 yes but should have nearly double that. just smacks it as hard as he can when gets in a goal scoring position. jerome was really unlucky with the 2 ''wonder saves'' from westwood but the amount of time we spent in an around the box i feel hooper would just clean up. not as quick but holds the ball up really well and he''s always sitting on the last defenders shoulder waiting for a ball through.often drifts in and out of the game but when you need him in the box he will generally be there? time for a change up front.
23. personally id start him on the wing with redmond. i like murphy as an impact and adams was well within is right to give him a go, no doubt with time he will turn into a quality footballer. but bennetts injuries seem to have overshadowed some memorable performances by him.
24. Personally: Ruddy Martin turner Hooiveld olsson ...........Tettey Johnson Grabban.....................Redmond .............lafferty Jerome All this talk about accommodating hoolahan I think at the minute accomodating Redmond and lafferty are the bigger Issues. Both looked brilliant on international duty and deserve the start
25. Personally I think the 442 and the 433/451 are the successful formations we have been using this year I can''t justify changing to the diamond just to suit wes. Current formation is suiting grabban jerome redmond in particular
