1. not sure about all this seeming negativity around signing players from lower leagues. I''ve no doubt that the majority of our squad have enough experience, but got to remember Johnson/hoolahan/Martin all started in lower leagues? We will sign the quality and cover we need for this season. Have some faith
2. If Alex Neil wants to give him a go for his own reasons then bring it on. There''s no coincidence that you can look at the majority of our top 12/13 players this season and say they''ve arguably had their best year for us, some even in their careers (Jerome springs to mind). I know it''s a different division but the majority of them are the same players who had arguably their worst seasons for us. Confidence is a massive factor in football and Neil has obviously reinstated that into the squad. Players in recent weeks have gone out of the way to speak about what a great man manager he is during interviews, what''s so say he can''t motivate Ricky. Hughton isolated the striker and Ricky is a box/shoulder of last defender forward. He''s always going to be hopeless playing in that formation??? If hughtons main aim was to play 1 forward he shouldn''t have even purchased him. he missed some easy chances but it wasn''t as if he was getting 5/6 a game like he should have been. We''re a completely different football team coming back up this season and I honestly think it''s worth persisting with him, IF Neil thinks he can do it.
3. Dorrans is an attacking midfielder yet it''s hard to compare him to hoolahan because he was placed in that somewhat defensive role in a pretty smart move by Neil. Identified we needed someone to spread the play from the base of midfield and he did a great job when called upon. Personal preference I prefer howson playing behind the striker I think he''s one of the best we''ve had but everyone watches different games of football and entitled to own opinions/ideas! Hoolahan is the first name on the teamsheet if we''re going to dictate the play/dominate the game. However, when playing that 4411 formation in the premier league in previous years he goes searching for the ball, and when we''re up against it against the top sides the striker becomes isolated. Fully expect hoolahan to have a big role to play but wouldn''t surprise me if dorrans/howson are used in a more attacking role of a 451 to add extra stability to the side
4. Realistically I''d look at sako and antonio. Both had great seasons and provide genuine width. Currently our starting 11 is working out quite nicely with Johnson on the left but think the demands of premier league will require an out and out first team left winger, even if just from the bench to provide a change of tactic. I like using palace as an example, the pace of zaha/bolasie on either side has proved crucial for them and they in fact play a very similar 4231 formation.
5. Also depends on what we can get for him. If it''s a case of having another look, because ultimately hughton managed to make 7/8 decent players look horrendous then so be it. In Neil we trust!
6. If strike goes ahead, which is imagined it will do, then no services running after midday on Monday. No services on Tuesday apart from a watered down service around midday from London. As for alternative transport? Can''t see it happening. isnt enough coaches in the country to handle a national strike so would expect they tell you to not travel at all.
7. The club have to purchase all the tickets they want in advance so they won''t return them. It''s why its a shame brentford didn''t get through as they had agreed to purchase less!
8. We''ve had so much success playing 4411/451 I can''t see or why people thing neil is going to make such dramatic changes? Think and hope it''s Ruddy Whittaker martin Bassong olsson Howson Tettey Dorrans Johnson Hoolahan Jerome Now I know martin didn''t have his best game but think he''s been consistant and he''s a leader, will definitely play.
9. Elliot bennett had 1 game against a quite frankly terrible fulham side, Id stick with martin/Whittaker. Ruddy Whittaker Martin Bassong Olsson Tettey Dorrans Redmond Howson Johnson Hooper Think hoolahan will keep his spot but personal preference I prefer Howson in that lineup. redmond a been quality of late and provides something completely different in terms of width and direct threat.
10. hughtons tactics ruined all of our forwards. How do you expect them to thrive chasing nothing balls with an occasional chance per game? We''re dominating games now, playing in the opponents half and putting balls into the box. If nobody''s willing to buy Id be more than tempted to give him another shot
11. Adomah and Woodgate did not train on Thursday. However, they both have travelled and not ruled out until Last minute before the game.
12. 4 games left. No time to rest players or make formation changes considering how successful the last few weeks have been. Id continue with the same team that started at bolton
13. Highest ranked defender Dani Ayala? Give it a rest Im sure if a championship club gets promoted to the premier league and they had the pick of 10 players From other clubs Im sure atleast 5 would be from Norwich. No cooindicence basically every manager we come up against says how brilliant our squad is.
14. If your on arsenals books from the age of 9 and you get offered a pro contract your not a bad footballer. I''m sure most on here would take afobe now he''s doing well at wolves? There''s still such a gulf in youth quality, I always use redmond & the murphys as a comparison, all good footballers but redmond is streaks ahead. Alex neil said he thought josh was one of the best on the training pitch when he turned up, so why isn''t he involved? Hopefully his loan can benefit us. End of the day we need a squad, were lacking depth up top now lafferty and grabban aren''t available. Neil made a good point about the Prem clubs needing to keep hold of established forwards, if akpom and come off the bench and cause problems, 6 ft strong and quick. Id much prefer that than to end up paying £10 million or something at end of the season for a McCormack/Rhodes loan to perm deal, when in reality we could get much better in the summer with that cash if that does happen
15. Good job neil didn''t take him off when he asked to be in the first half! Don''t think he gets enough credit for the work and ground he covers. Constantly up an down the pitch, most ground out of all our players I imagine. Glad we kept him and despite his occasional errors he''s still a quality player
16. Shame as he would be 3rd striker now, pretty handy to bring on off the bench. Comments are right though he is a red card waiting to happen
17. Hooper was the main attack at celtic and everything was centred around him, now at Norwich he''s asked to play in the deeper role of which Ive actually been impressed with. Don''t get me wrong hoolahan has been brilliant, hes exciting to watch. My slight groan at fans is they enjoy a spin, 5/6 touches and flair, with little appreciation for the likes of Hooper who takes 1/2 touches, a little give and go and makes his way into the box. Any form of link up play of creativity should be just as appreciated as the rest! He''s not got bags of pace , is stocky in size and he''s not leading the line so doesn''t chase lost causes across the defence, none of these make him lazy or mean he shows any less effort than the rest. As for playing them together it''s a bit of a tough one. I can see the case for playing them both individually but it''s very rare Neil has got his line ups incorrect. Different teams are lining up in very different ways against us, some need hooper and others need hoolahan. I can''t really complain because we have 3 strikers looking on course to finish on around 15+ Goals and we have quality in midfield that can''t get a place in the side
18. Also had a good game at milwall. Considering he''s not had an overly large amount of game time in the recent weeks to joining us and he''s not exactly an impact player, I think he''s done brilliantly. One of those who just goes quietly about his business and can quite often be forgotton on the pitch but links the play up brilliantly and could prove a real asset in the middle of the park for the last games
19. Brilliant game, haven''t seen those highlights for some time but can remember that Drury goal like it was yesterday. On a seperate note how good was boros squad looking at that?
20. im a pretty big hooper fan and I think the work he does is so underestimated. At celtic he played as a loan striker but often had support from the 2 wide men as well as the midfield, now at Norwich he''s asked to play a completely different role behind the main forward. There''s such expectation for him to score 25 a season because he did at celtic, but he playing in more of an advanced midfield/deep lying role for us. Today I thought he was excellent, from sticking the penalty away, to the really neat through ball through to jerome followed by the little dummy to take the man away to leave Howson with a tap in. I would much rather have hooper in the team than hoolahan. He doesn''t twist, turn or take many touches on the ball but when he does have a few seconds to think he''s either threading it out wide or through to jerome. Personally Im happy with what he does and may his largely unnoticed work go on
21.
I''m not sure Redmond deserves to be picked after Wednesdays game. He didn''t even attempt to run passed their full back, but we don''t have too many options out wide apart from Murphy. I''d play 5 in midfield with Hoolahan supporting Jerome. If he is fit enough O''Neil in front on the back four Murphy, Howson and Johnson just in front.
He did try but the left back was lightning to be fair. Would have swapped wings but that''s down to neil. Always such a big want for hoolahan, I don''t think he did much when he came on really, trying to play balls that weren''t there to be played. Id be tempted to start with the same team or even with Murphy on the left wing. Milwall have no choice but to come at us for points, will be plenty of space available
22. Neil confirmed he''s had the cartlidge in his ankle repaired. This particular injury depends on the type of procedure and the amount that has to be repaired/replaced. Hardest places to recover quickly are the knee, and you guessed it, ankle. Some have to walk with crutches for a few weeks, and the larger procedures could leave him out for a couple of months instead of weeks. Either way he''s had an incision into his ankle which is going to take atleast a few weeks to repair and heal properly.
23. Exactly what ive been saying. When we can fill our stadium at £40 a head for the people that don''t have a season ticket the club will continute to charge it, at the end of the day it''s business and for them it makes ''business sense''. If we had 20,000 maximum every game Im sure we would see a drop in prices. Having said that It''s still sad it''s £40 to watch a 90 minute game of championship football. I only manage to get to 5/10 away games in a season but I''m happy to pay that for a day out, have done over the past few seasons and will continue To do so despite the league/opposition
24. I think dorrans will be straight in. We''ve played brilliant football the last 2 weeks but we''ve done that with Johnson playing out wide slightly out of position. Don''t get me wrong he''s been brilliant out on the left but is more suited centrally. I think the natural width dorrans would provide would improve us even further. Who to drop? Good question to ask yourself given everybody is playing so well. My favourite attacking midfielder is Howson but I think he might lose out. Could play him behind grabban but think hoopers threat inside the box and the underrated quality chasing lost balls, give and goes and neat little through balls he will be in. it''ll be down to everyone''s different tastes but Id go with Ruddy Whittaker martin Bassong olsson Johnson tettey Redmond hooper dorrans Grabban
25.
So will he be eligible for the play off final potentially?
Ive been reading through the stupidly complicated rules procedure and it seems that yes. Emergency loan rule means we can only have him for a maximum for 93 days unless specially agreed by the exec of football league. Currently we have him or 31 days with the deal ending 22 March, if we renew it straight away it would run out 22nd may. However, we can let him go back on the 22nd, and then Resign him providing the deal is done by 5pm on the 4th Thursday of March, which is the 26th. This means he would be able to play in full play offs without missing a game for us. I think.
