  1. In my experience, Cardiff fans are no angels; in fact, I can't think of another set of fans who are so aggressive apart from Millwall at their place and the Serbian fans at Wembley who were just manic.
  2. Would it be because Chelsea will pay them £30k a week to stay in a hotel in Huddersfield (or similar)?
  3. So now the government appointed regulator will force them to reach an agreement. Which will hopefully be a lot more than they would like.
  4. Howson was a great player for us. Why would anyone expect him to do other than what he did to try to ensure his current team wins? Very few footballers have any true affection for the clubs they play for, and the nature of his departure should tell you that Howson doesn't.
  5. Surely every club from the under 10s upwards trains with 10 men occasionally? But as someone pointed out you need a structure, and this coaching team have none. However good the excuse was about going down a man, the nature of the goals wasn't relatable to that; it was just bad defending. What the red card did was make Middlesbro more adventurous and it was that we couldn't cope with. If they'd played like that from the start we'd have lost comfortably with 11 men. I know it's fun and relevant that we still have a chance of finishing 6th but honestly, does anyone see this team getting promoted? Still, it's a bit of a laugh. I hope that if we do scrape 6th that isn't enough to save Wagner's job though - that would be a complete disaster.
  6. One refereeing decision won't cost us the playoffs. Our completely inept reaction to being down to 10 men might, as will our excuse for a coaching team who did nothing to assist in terms of tactics or formation or substitutions. Just imagine if we'd stopped whining and come through that type of adversity by playing with some intelligence and guts instead of totally capitulating - but that would require leadership and we don't have any of that.
  7. Middlesbrough are a mere 6 points off the bottom 3 so they need some points quickly. Given our away record I see a problem....
  8. Our biggest mistake in our last two attempts at the PL was hugely overpaying our players. By all means reward success but laying out 80% of the TV money on wages was and will always be ridiculous - all it does is underline the enormous quality gap and leave clubs in trouble. If survival and another £100m is truly our only aim we need to establish why that is the case. Just so we can give it to the players yet again? In every other walk of life you get paid more by being better at your job; by taking more responsibility; by doing things more efficiently. But our players just got increases for being the same. Very few of them improved - even Buendia struggled at PL level with us. If, and it's a huge if, we manage to scrape up this season, I'd really like us to just pay the promotion bonuses and keep salaries at a more modest level. Players and agents who don't like it can move on for the right fee and we can play some kids and others who want to be here - let's be honest, our results will be no worse. The playoff system is fun but expecting a team finishing 6th in the Championship to have any chance of survival in the EPL is nonsensical.
  9. I'm sure I read a stat recently about the reduction in headed goals from over 26% to less than 15% over recent seasons - I wonder if it's just not coached as much now, given the potential issues.
  10. There's talk of £6 - 8m for him with numerous suitors. If we can get that for him it would be extremely good business and would even vindicate the 5 year contract. Like others, I don't see him playing for us again.
  11. Absolutely this. I'd go even further and say that I'd rather watch a Cuesta side in the Championship than a Wagner side in the Premier League.
  12. Roeder by a mile - what he did to Huckerby was unforgiveable. We have had some belters though - Megson; Deehan; Rioch; Hamilton; Smith; Grant; Gunn all of them dreadful. I think the football under Hughton was probably the worst I've ever seen us play. I think Wagner is on course to come quite high on the list - the football we play under him is also pretty woeful.
  13. Exactly this. Wagner has done well to deliver some good results but because the vast majority of the performances, even during this recent run, have been very questionable he has yet to prove that he or his coaches have the ability to adapt tactically to a situation, whether that involves injuries, suspensions, or an opponents way of playing. The games from now to the end of the season will show us. Apart from away games at Boro and Leicester they are all games we should get something out of. If we don't make the playoffs from here, he will have no more excuses.
  14. What garbage we watched earlier in the season - you don't remember that? Forgotten Southampton at home? Of course it's down to the manager and his coaches - who else would it be down to? Every team has injuries and if you look at the tables of time out for players we are no worse affected than most teams in this league. I'm not twisting anything. I gave Wagner a lot of time before I concluded he was hopeless. He had chance after chance to tweak systems to suit the players he had available, both at the end of last season when we lost Maclean and Hanley and this when we lost Sargent, Barnes and Gunn. He did nothing, apart from try to fit players who couldn't play the role he wanted them to play. He did that on both occasions. The players and coaches were clueless. They threw away points with abandon by ridiculous selection, tactical and substitution decisions. And let's not forget Plymouth away - that was solely down to our injuries was it? We've had some good results since the turn of the year but only two good performances (West Brom and Cardiff). He's still got a long way to go to convince me.
  15. Sorry that I have an opinion which differs from yours - you're obviously a much, much better fan than me.
  16. Get rid of VAR entirely. Make swearing at the ref or dissent at decisions a red card offence with a 3 game ban. Make betting by contracted professionals a season long ban. Make diving or feigning injury a red card offence with a 1 game ban. Encourage refs to give penalties for every foul in the penalty area i.e. actually implement the rules.
  17. It's this kind of thinking that got us all excited last time! I don't think we have any players who would get into a current EPL team, except perhaps Sheffield Utd, and I don't think we will attract massive bids for any of them if we don't go up. Rowe, Sainz and Sargent are all potentials if they can continue to improve but I don't think Maclean, Nunez or Sara have the athleticism necessary to be consistent performers at that level. Rowe will go because of his contract situation, but I suspect it'll be another £10 to £12m deal.
  18. Just catching up on this thread. Firstly, no one owes Wagner any apologies. He quite clearly showed during a period where the wheels were falling off that he was completely clueless about how to put them back on again. Yes, he has been rescued by the return to fitness of two of his better players (Sargent and Gunn) but even with that our form is patchy to say the least. Secondly, Saturday's game was the best we have played under him. We had a system, for probably the first time. Everyone knew what they were doing and did it, for probably the first time. It was still a bit iffy at the start of the second half, and the third goal came at just the right time. Plus we were playing a Cardiff team who showed that on their day they too can be the worst team in the Championship. We still managed to gift them two or three gilt edged chances by sloppy passes. But credit where it's due, both the crowd and the players produced when it mattered and we all had a lovely day. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but there is now hope at least that until the next injury strikes we have a chance of putting a winning run together. I emphasise that injury thing. Wagner has shown his lack of flexibility throughout the season. If Sargent or Gunn go absent again, we're dead in the water as far as the playoffs are concerned. Those two are irreplaceable within the current squad. People are making a big thing about our recent form, but even 27 points from the last 15 games isn't auto promotion form - our away record would need to improve a lot before we're in that territory., so let's not all get carried away because we've won some home games with a lot of luck and a bit of decent football. The best thing Wagner has done to date is find a way of playing which accommodates Maclean, Nunez and Sara in the same team. I still don't think it's ideal because as soon as we're pressed we give up the ball, but offensively it's working. In the Championship. In the EPL? Not a cat in hell's chance.
  19. Wagner has done nothing tactically to improve the team performances. He has simply profited by the return to fitness of our better players, who keep producing the goods on an individual basis. Tactically, we are still hopeless and we still make the same errors every game and our coaches apparently do nothing to stop them. Just imagine what we could do with these players if we had a manager and a coaching team who had a clue. It's a bit like putting a bad conductor in front of the LSO - they'd still produce a decent concert, but it wouldn't be as good as it should be. You can't blame the players when they're being asked to play in a way they're not capable of doing. The booing was directed specifically at the manager yet he managed to deflect and suggest that the crowd were booing the players. What would be interesting would be if the club actually asked people why they didn't turn up - but then, they might not like the answer.
  20. Depends how far back you go. Since we played 1p5wich we have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 3. 18 points from 11 games. It's play off form, just about, but not quite as spectacular as some would have us believe. I would still suggest that some of those good results have been in spite of the manager rather than because of him. Even if we squeak up through the playoffs I don't want him here next season.
  21. But we all know that owners and managers who criticise the clubs fans are in the last chance saloon. Wagner's only chance of keeping his job is to get promotion, and even then he might be moved on.
  22. In terms of communication, it might be nice to know why we allowed Idah, our second highest goalscorer and a proven threat from the subs bench this season, to leave on loan when we replaced him with someone who wasn't actually ready to play and who had to "get used to the Championship". It might be nice to know why Wagner named two goalkeepers on the bench on two occasions when he had other options. It might be nice to know why we played Hanley at QPR when he was apparently unfit, which cost us their second goal. And the old stagers of course - why we still haven't tactically sorted the lack of a CDM, allowing almost every opposition team to waltz through our midfield on several occasions; why we concede the initiative in almost every game, often with early and obviously daft substitutions and why some of our players, who are paid tens of thousands of pounds a week to be footballers, are still apparently unable to pass the ball to a team-mate in the simplest of situations. We beat Watford and for the first 30 and the last 20 minutes we played as if we cared. The middle 50 or so, not so much. We gave them - literally gave them, two gilt edged chances which they missed, by stupid passes (Maclean and Barnes - two of the players who were probably our best on the night). We defended like an under 8s team. Their first goal was scored because two players were completely unmarked within yards of our goal. We beat Coventry because they missed and Gunn saved three almost open goals, when again we defended woefully. I've genuinely never seen a player so guilty of ballwatching as Fassnacht. Yet our coaches seem not to have noticed. Victories yes, but not remotely deserved or comfortable. We seldom have the majority of possession and the amount of shots we allow the opposition in every game tells you all you need to know about the lack of control we have on a game. Scrambled wins are better than what was happening of course, when we frequently snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, but don't be fooled into thinking we are playing with any sort of a masterplan. I don't boo. But I also don't appreciate those who do being told they're not welcome by a manager who doesn't seem to understand that fanbase.
  23. So I assume you're happy with two goalkeepers on the bench - I'm not. But that was just one of the points made, and probably the lesser of them. This coaching team won't be successful. Logically, it can't be, because there are too many things they don't do very well and eventually our best players will not be able to bale them out by doing something outstanding. At some point that will have to be addressed. We are a mid table team and will stay that way with Wagner. Just like West Ham will with Moyes. Some people want more than that.
  24. If we get £8m for Tzolis it will be the best transfer deal this club has ever been involved in; even better than £15m for Lewis. It's also as unlikely as us finishing in the top two.
  25. I think there's a bit of a similar situation at West Ham. Lots of their fans want Moyes out, not just because they think they're under achieving but because of the style of football. Their 6-0 at home to Arsenal was humbling - a bit like our 6-2 at Plymouth. Results like that emphasise that whatever the trend of results, you're not competing at the top end. As for us, we have yet to convince even though we have had a fully fit squad, at least we did have until Rowe's injury. Our tactics are still questionable; we still play square pegs in round holes; we don't elevate our academy players; we still don't have a midfield enforcer; we still expose our fullbacks every game. We play every game on the edge of a precipice - as likely to lose 5-0 as to win 2-1. Some of that can only be addressed by a change of coaching team.
