1.
Me too Webbo. Brilliant memories despite the result. Thanks for posting NN. Might be memory playing tricks but I''m sure there were a good number of boisterous Wednesday fans around us.
They were in the corner joining the River End and the South Stand.
 2.
Yep Lincoln, I agree with the Alex Neil remark...he should have been fired after the barren spell , where we lost so many points which left us too far behind... If board had shown some decisiveness at that time, I think we would at least made the top six. But that is my assumption or opinion, however you want to call it. No crystal ball here... But our board has failed to be decisive many times in the last few years! Sometimes a tough decision , with risks, has to be made...
But, as I have said on numerous occasions in the past, they are dedicated ditherers.
 3.

Yeah... getting rid of proven goalscorers and replacing with hit and miss lower league German & French players... what do the 26''000 that turn up week in week out expect.... people... I don''t know...
Cameron Jerome had been a great servant to the club but was far from a regular goal scorer this season. He was also allegedly on £20k+ per week - it appears sensible business to move him on at this point. All incoming transfers are hit and miss regardless of where they are from or how experienced they are - our recent history of signing more expensive ''proven'' players will tell you that.
Jesus Lionel Christiano Christ would be "far from a regular scorer" in our team!!
 4.
Webbo, The follow up question must surely be, why is this the case? It must be (is) a natural instinct for any footballer, let alone an attacker/midfielder, to get in the box and score. So in answer to my own question, none of them can be *rsed or they are playing under instruction, I''ll go for option B. Worrying innit!
In my view it is definitely playing under instruction. It is worrying because the coaching staff seem to think this is acceptable and what is required. It certainly won''t result in the renewal of my season tickets for next season. I can get bored rigid far more cheaply than that!
 5.
@Webbo I think we actually agree on quite a lot. We need to get more players forward and quicker- yep. We need to lose the obsession with keeping the ball at all costs- yep. We need more competition for places in attacking roles- yep, yep and yep again. I just don''t see the answer as ''two up top'' or ''getting more crosses in.'' I think we can be more attacking than we are now without changing the formation- we need to allow Pinto and Lewis more licence to get forward which can then allow Maddison and Murphy to get closer to Nelson and get beyond him when needs be. The idea of the two ''holding'' players is to give more freedom to our attackers (mainly Maddison and Murphy) to get forward without having to worry about cover behind them. The issue we had Saturday was we couldn''t get the ball to them so they dropped deeper to get the ball out of frustration and left Nelson isolated.
You will not get anywhere when, effectively, only three players are allowed to attack. We see time and time again, wing backs or Murphy in a position to cross the ball, look up and decide not to because there is no-one in the box (occasionally Oliveira is there on his own). Contrast this with the Fulham display against Burton (how many goals did we score against the Albion?). Every time they scored there was a minimum of four players in the box trying to get on the end of crosses. Could this be why they have scored 18 times more than us this season? I think all opposition central defenders must look on their visit to Carrow Road with glee. It is time to get out and dust off the pipe and slippers and strap the deckchair to the back. They never have such a relaxing day anywhere else!
 6.

....they let us out at half time for a fag.It wouldn''t cost much to have one door open in each stand for fifteen minutes or so. If MWJ is allowed, why aren''t we? [^o)]
Possibly because he is a majority shareholder and can do what he wants!
In these days of equality shouldn''t we have the same rights?
I was dreaming exactly that the other day. Then I woke up and a dose of reality kicked back in.
 7.
I agree we don''t create or score enough, it is pretty obvious. I just disagree with your conclusion that to remedy it we need to have two upfront. What we are struggling with right now is linking the midfield and the attack- Sheffield United pressed our midfielders and wing backs high, forcing them to drop deeper and leaving far too big a gap between them and Maddison/Murphy/Nelson further up the pitch. I don''t think having another striker on would have solved this. We need to be quicker in transition from defense to attack and move the ball forward with greater urgency. This doesn''t mean long balls but where we are currently taking 3 or 4 touches before either passing or carrying the ball forward, we need to take 1 or 2. We''d also benefit playing the ball into the feet of Nelson, where he can use his touch and passing ability to bring Maddison and Murphy into the game, rather than the more aimless punts we saw Saturday. He''s not going to win loads of headers vs 6'' 3" center halves. There is always an urge from English football fans to revert to 4-4-2 with ''proper wingers'' as if it is the cure to all of a football teams problems. It isn''t.
The whole mindset of the coaching staff has to fundamentally change. Their overriding priority is to maintain possession and, if that can be achieved, not concede (i.e. if you have possession of the ball the opposition cannot score). Their appears to be little or no emphasis on attacking, getting players in the box, crossing the ball and creating goal scoring opportunities. We send our team out with a back five and two holding midfielders who have been clearly instructed (or are just incapable) of getting ahead of the ball. We have effectively one striker and one winger in the club. Where is the competition for places? You can dress it all up with fancy terms learnt from listening to the tv like quicker in transition and greatly urgency. The method of play imposed on the team doesn''t facilitate those things happening. A few weeks ago I heard me saying to myself "I never thought I would be thinking why can''t we have a team like Brentford?"
 8.
....they let us out at half time for a fag.It wouldn''t cost much to have one door open in each stand for fifteen minutes or so. If MWJ is allowed, why aren''t we? [^o)]
Possibly because he is a majority shareholder and can do what he wants!
 9.
In the last 15 years they''ve had... 8 straight years in the Premier League, an FA Cup win, another FA Cup semi final, European football, a league cup final and a 10th place finish in the Premier League. Not bad really.
They have done extremely well. The local owner has now realised that he has taken them as far as he can. Wonder if he knows any other "local owners"?
 10.
I am in full agreement that the players have it too easy in today''s football. I like progress and welcome it. In all spheres of life. Carrow Road, probably ready for some safe standing, to increase the capacity if not the income, is a place to go and socialise not just go and watch a game. Standing on the Barclay in the 60''s was exciting but not pleasant and we were treated like cattle. Piddling up a wall in a loo that had no roof on. Queuing forever for something to eat or drink. And steep steps to encounter when leaving. Surely nobody wants that back. But I don''t believe progress has been made in the relationship between the paying customer and the players. I don''t see the point of debating whether players are better or fitter. That makes no odds to me. If football entertains me then I don''t care how it is played. I want to be excited and feel the buzz of a good game of football. So watching Ron Davies smash in a header of the underside of the bar or a Maddison free kick in the top corner excites me in the same way. But it does get up my ample nose when we are told that the players can''t perform at their best because they are playing too much. We know they can''t. They never could. But at least they used to play every game and give their best and if the standard dropped it didn''t matter if you were treated to an entertaining game. And when coaches say that a player "isn''t quite ready" I ask for what reason? If he has been playing for another club he must be fit. The crowd would have gone mad if Ron Saunders had said that we had brought in Graham Paddon but we would have to assess whether he could step up from Coventry Reserves first before playing. Sign on the line and you are playing Saturday. And the players would have been knocking on the manager''s door if they were dropped. And if they were they went into the reserves who played as many games. I remember George Best, acknowledging that he was a star and also acknowledging that he was a fun loving boozer even in his playing days, saying he didn''t begrudge the money even average players were getting but he got angry when they complained of tiredness etc. Everyone who works for a living gets tired.
"I want to be excited and feel the buzz of a good game of football". Were truer words ever written? For 55 years I have experienced an almost continuous feeling which starts on a Monday. It basically involves there being a game in 5 days time and I can''t wait. This season, I think probably for the first time in 55 years, that life long feeling has gradually been dragged out of me. I no longer look forward to going to the game with ever increasing anticipation. It is now a case of I have to go, I''m not enjoying it but I have paid my money so I might as well. There is no buzz. There is no excitement. We are not getting good games of football. The policy being followed (The Webber/Farke master plan) may mean we have to take ten paces back in order to move one pace forward but my God isn''t it painful.
 11.
The manager, players, supporters and the media are all buying into the idea that NCFC could not perform against Sheffield United due to tiredness after the Chelsea game. Is this a valid excuse when put into some historical context? When Villa won the league in 1980-81 they did so with just 14 players and seven of those players played in all 42 games, including Gordon Cowans, Dennis Mortimer, Jimmy Rimmer, Kenny Swain and Tony Morley. They played Saturday-Wednesday for much of the season; had only one substitute per game (which Saunders in any case rarely used) and played on waterlogged and frozen pitches (when drainage and undersoil heating did not exist). The mentality of the players was completely different. They were hostile to the idea of being dropped or rested. They wanted to play every game and Saunders took the view that the more they played together the better they understood each other''s game. Contrast all this with today''s use of squad rotation, resting Tetteys and Hoolihans because they can''t play more than once a week; the ability to replace half the team with subs; larger squads; pristine playing surfaces; milder climate; huge number of backroom staff; combined with a much poorer player mentality where the likes of Oliveira and Murphy clearly don''t fancy certain games at certain times. But there is also the element of small club mentality at play here as well. While Norwich were busy feeling sorry for themselves against Sheffield following the midweek defeat to EPL giants, Chelsea were busy romping to a 4-0 away win. Top players don''t get tired of winning. Were the likes of Souness, Dalglish, McDermott, Rush, etc tired of winning all those titles in the 70s and 80s? Of course not. Verdict: If you want to be a top player you have to have a Class A mentality as well as skill. Norwich players take note.
The excuse for the players and coaching staff was firmly in place before anyone went on to the pitch.
 12.
"So you''re happy with the number of goals we are scoring, the number of chances we are creating, the number of players we are getting in to attacking positions, etc.?" Weirdly enough, I don''t think I said that did I? I''m disputing your fairly obviously wrong claim that you need to play two up front to succeed in the Championship. More strikers on the pitch doesn''t mean more goals. Quite often by surrendering midfield advantage you see less of the ball and create less chances.
It is not possible to create less chances than we are currently doing. The vast majority of goals are scored by strikers. That is their job. That is why they are in the team. You can have as much possession as you want in your own half and/or in the middle third but that is not where goals are scored. The top scorers are Vydra and Clarke (each with 15). It is no coincidence that they are both getting the right support. They are not left up front on their own to chase the ball aimlessly from side to side as it is passed by centre backs to each other whilst the rest of our team watch on from their own half. Can you really not see what is happening in front of your very eyes?
 13.
I wish we were Wigan. [:(]
This is us in 10/15 years!!
 14.

On the field, the main objective this season was to avoid relegation. We are on track to do this whilst simultaneously re-implementing the Chase-Stringer model.Wynn-Jones and Delia need to be congratulated for swallowing their pride and going back to what worked so well before. Better late than never.
Even though Ed Balls said that if we were not promoted it would cause severe financial problems ?
Were they his real words - just you over egging it a bit... I hesitate to say telling ''porkies'' for many varied reasons ?He did say in the interview after the AGM"if we don''t go up to the Premier League this season then we face another big financial challenge next summer at the end of the parachute payments"But then I should imagine you are talking about another comment he made.
Allowing a politician to get involved with financial matters is like handing the keys to the wine cellar and drinks cabinet to an alcoholic. They are brilliant at spending money that is not theirs.
 15.
I hate this as a tactic with so much passion. Say, for example, their corner delivery is poor and it does not beat our first man. He takes control of the ball and then..., well, he has to smack it out for a throw in at best because there''s nobody to pass it too further up the pitch. Leave one or two up there and force the opposition to keep more players back. I quite like the idea someone posted above of leaving 3 up top. Leave a striker and two wingers up there. That''ll make things a bit more interesting! Back when I was playing, as a short attacker, I''d go and stand near the centre spot to keep their defence as far back as possible!
Ideal example tonight of having too many players in your own penalty area defending a corner. Four Liverpool players went for the same cross and messed it up leaving Swansea to score the winning goal. All 11 players were in the penalty area, defending. That''s German coaches for you.
 16.
''Two strikers are required in the Championship. Even the Scum understand this!'' But they aren''t. Wolves, Cardiff, Villa, Bristol all play one up front.
So you''re happy with the number of goals we are scoring, the number of chances we are creating, the number of players we are getting in to attacking positions, etc.? I think we have seriously over achieved at home with 4 wins from 14 games. Where is the Plan B? Where is the realisation that it is not working? Time to wake up and smell those good old coffee beans!
 17.
Agree with Indy and looking forward to becoming a casual from being a season ticket holder for many years. The freeze on season tickets are at Premiership prices, now a 1st division built squad, it’s a pi££ take. We are up there with the dearest for ticket prices. Delia out
You have made three points. I agree with the first. I agree with the second. I agree with the third. In fact, I agree with all three.
 18.
Bizarre that our goal against Chelsea was a cross from our CB out on the left wing onto the head of our LB/WB positioned in the right chanel of the oppo penalty area.
The next thing you''ll be claiming that is a regular occurrence this season. Behave!
 19.
''Strikers always operate better in pairs'' I think Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Lukaku etc etc would dispute that...
Hunt and Hurst, Keegan and Toshack, Holt and Jackson, Suarez and Messi, Ronaldo and Benzema, Shearer and Sutton, Nugent and Vydra. There will always be outstanding strikers who receive fantastic support from wide attacking players as in Aguero with Sane and Sterling. We are operating at a different level. Two strikers are required in the Championship. Even the Scum understand this!
 20.
Agree with you Webbo, also every opposition manager knows that is how we play at home so they are not worried about playing two up front and allowing their defenders to push up. It is pointless Pinto or Lewis charging down the wing as they invariably have to stop and play the ball backwards as there is nobody in the box; even our lone striker Oliveira spends most of his time on the wing. I despair when Farke talks about bringing in replacements to improve the forward play, he might need to consider changing his style of play and get more players to push up into the opposition box.
You are of course absolutely correct in what you say. I believe that the majority of supporters realise this as well, for sure.
 21.
The two holding allow the wingbacks to attack. The wingbacks were often our most forward players yesterday. And the last two goals we''ve scored have been headers from the two wing backs. I guess if they just defended and the holding midfielders had scored those goals it would have been better? I think those two holding increase our attacking options tbh.
Our wing backs attack so well that they provide a continuous flow of crosses and chances for our one remaining and isolated striker who has scored a grand total of how many goals this season? Ronaldo up front in our team wouldn''t be doing any better. Strikers always operate better as pairs unless you have outstanding individuals like Hazard and Sanchez.
 22.

Except for the game on 18th February the season is dead and gone.
Is the point of following the club dependent on being involved in a challenge for promotion? Do the players think, it''s ok, we''re not going to get in the play offs, so the season is over? No - at least I hope not - so why should we? I just wish I lived closer so I could get to see Maddison play at CR. We have a real star in the making there. Trybull, Stiepermann are both excellent. Pinto is a real strong character and captain. Klose is a bit of a legend. Gunn is brilliant. Lewis is a breath of fresh air. Hanley is a real defender''s defender. We will probably have some new players in this week, as well as Edwards (who is guaranteed to give some excitement, loan or not). Oliveira to find some form? Murphy to become more savvy? If the players do show some gumption and start winning games, we will move up the table. Maybe not enough for the play offs, but never say never. The season over? Doesn''t look it from here.
The point is that the football we have been served up with this season has been dreadful. It is extremely negative with high levels of passing either sideways or backwards. There is very little attacking intent with few crosses into the box, presumably because there is no-one to cross to, and little pressuring of the opposition in their own half. We have played 14 games at home of which we have won just 4. In those games we have scored a mere 15 goals. It really is dire stuff. I have been a supporter for 55 years, a shareholder for longer than I care to remember and a season ticket holder for 20 years. Unless there is a dramatic improvement, the season ticket will not be renewed next season. I cannot justify the financial outlay for what we are currently getting. There are far cheaper ways to be bored witless every week. Sign some strikers for Christ''s sake. Play two in the team and have two on the bench. That''s what other teams do. It really is not rocket science.
 23.
Bed in new signings. Keep moulding the players to Farke''s system. Eye up more consistency next season.
Farke''s system stinks. It may work in Germany''s 4th division but it doesn''t in the Championship. We are trying to play like Barcelona with players who should be turning out for Barrow. The obsession with keeping possession of the ball at all costs is self defeating. Football has always been a simple game and basically you win if you score more goals than the opposition. Our priority is not to score goals, it is to avoid conceding. As a result we send out a team with a back five together with two holding midfielders who clearly have been instructed not to get ahead of the ball and not to go anywhere near the opposition penalty area. Sheffield United have Clarke, Wilson, Donaldson, Sharp and Brooks. Derby have Nugent, Vydra, Jerome, Winnall and Martin. We have Oliveira. This illustrates the importance e place on strikers compared to others. We seem to think that a rule has been created that prevents a team from having more than one striker on the pitch at any one time. The club has taken one of the biggest gamble''s in it''s history in appointing these people. Time will tell whether it was the right thing to do.
