1. I don''t think he was ever destined to last beyond the end of the season, should imagine a deal was done with some other manager not long after Jose and they will be unveiled in the next couple of weeks.I don''t envy any manager at Chelsea though, Frank Arnsen chooses who to buy and Abramovich makes sure the players he likes are playing. Also, you have to win just about everything, playing attractive football. All that and Man Utd and Liverpool spend more on players. However, I bet the wages are alright.
2. Didn''t Green and Carson rule themselves out of being selected because they are off on their holidays. Doubt either of them would jump up off the beach to train with the squad and not even make the bench.I think it will be a long long time until Joe is in the squad again, so I hope he enjoys it while he can and gets some tips of great ''keepers like James.
3.
nothing to do with NCFC. Given to me by DJ LAYO (Layo & Bushwakka) when we are at UEA and ran club nights in Manhattans :-) Le Valbon :-) and downstairs at Bedfords in dodgy all nighters :-) :-)
And I just thought you were a BDP fanScott la Rock RIPMine comes from when I was a kid in Japan, the Short Circuit film was popular and in Japanese five is go, and as my name is Jon I soon became Jonny Go!
4. I think if I was in Fozzy''s position I would also be hesitant about getting a longer contract with Norwich. If we manage to attract so good players and push for a top 6 place next year he will probably want to extent his contract. If we get in a bunch of average players and scrap around in mid-table he will probably look for a way out.Is a bit of a risk for him though, if he has a bad season next year there will be less offers on his table and we all know what happens to players Roeder isn''t sure about...I''m glad he has signed, still unsure of his footballing skills, be he is a decent Championship midfielder and a good captain. Don''t think he and Russell should play together though, as it doesn''t give us much going forward.
5. Not good enough a left back and too slow to be a left winger, seems a damming judgment given out onto Lappin. Must admit I haven''t seen him play myself so won''t comment on his qualities. But as we have such a small squad and he is playing regularly in a team who have qualified for European football there may be a future for him here yet, if he wants it.Reckon Roeder will have him back and take a look at him over the pre-season, unless there is already an agreement in place with Motherwell.Again it probably all depends on who we manage to buy/loan over the next few weeks.
6. I think he is more reffering to the fact Worthy gave Jackson a 2 year contract when he took over, then released him at the beginning of the next season.
7. What?? No Ronaldo?? This club has no ambition..... I''m not gonna go to a game until the stinkin'' board have left and the Sultan of Brunei has bought us out and we have some real ambition [:P]
8. "BarmyY''army"What about imposing a limit of foreign players for the competition as well? I can vaguely remember someone like Red Star getting thrown out years ago when it was the Cup Winners Cup, do you reckon it would be possible to bring it back in? There is a rule about foreign players. It isn''t a simple "only 3 allowed" kinda rule. But it works something like 8 players out of a squad of 25 must be from the country of the club and 4 of those must be "homegrown" by the club, ie Giggs, Scholes etc. However, due to they way they define "Homegrown" Fabregas is classed as a homegrown player for Arsenal as he was there from such a young age. This is the reason the big 4 keep hold of some of their so-so younger players, to meet the quotas. I reckon Gibbs might stay at Arsenal next year for this reason.
9. Ronaldo wanted to wait until after the Champions League Final until announcing his shock move to Norwich.
10. There are several reasons why there is little Championship football on TV. The main reason is Sky. They own the rights to the games and it is up to them to show them or not, and they generally go for not showing them. The highlights are also expensive to own, and the amount of time given to showing the highlights and when they can be show is also dictated by Sky. I do believe that either next season, or the season after the BBC will be showing some championship games, as will Setanta. I''m a little fuzzy on the details but it is either both channels will show 10 games, or they will show 10 games between them.Sky''s tactic has been to buy the rights to anything they can, just to stop other channels showing it and taking viewers away from their precious Premier League games.
11. His release fee has been quoted at anything between 100k - 250k. A lot of blackpool fans are pretty angry such a clause was allowed. Puts Earnshaw''s 3.5m clause into a little perspective. If Norwich can actually get him it would be a bit of a coup for us, there will be stiff competition and at such a low price, the money saved on transfer fee may end up going straight into the players pocket. Roder made it pretty clear he is a fan of his, and I think he would fit into the "inbetweenie" category. Who knows... maybe the deal was done a month or so ago and Roeder is keeping it secret just for the fun of watching other clubs scrabble around. (I doubt this is true, but it''s fun to dream).
12.
Unlikely to have made anything from food and drink sales. Staff costs, low margins and a low spend per head (loads of people won''t have spent a penny and brought their own).
Having a couple of "ins" at the club, I can tell you that 190 people bought the 200 pound VIP dinner and the kiosks did good trade all day, so with staff being paid minimum wage and a healthy mark up on food I doubt profits were slim. And I from what I understand, the franchise paid Norwich City, and other clubs have "Greatest Ever" events in the pipeline.
13. This event was driven more by the "Greatest Ever" company than the club. The format would of been set out by them rather than the club. Bascially, for next to no layout the club has probably made a few thousand out of drink/food sales alone and it sounds like most people had a good time at the event.
14. If you actually read what I said, I noted that this event wasn''t for me, and never mention anything about people about being fickle for not going. What I was commenting on is people seemingly wanting the event to fail, or criticise the club for having the event at all.And I forgot that my opinions are directly related to how many posts I have made, I am sorry to have offended someone who is so obviously wiser than myself and my scant 60 or so posts.
15. I don''t disagree with you that it is a strange mixs of pop music and aging footballers which doesn''t grab me as an obvious mix. I guess it is targetted as a family day out, with pop music for the kids and Kevin Keelan for the dads and Mike Walker for the mums [;)]I don''t think the club are milking it as a "goodbye Hucks" event, one because it isn''t the club organising it. Also Hucks was confirmed before the the end of the season, and to have him involved and not even mention the fact he is leaving or celebrate his Norwich career is a lot worse than the tribute they are planning. At the end of the day, Norwich City FC is first a football club and second a business, there isn''t so much football going on at the moment, so let them get on with some business. Otherwise it is a long time to not gain any revenue until the new season begins.
16. I am surprised the negative feeling towards this event. The club wants to create a little extra revenue during the close season, while their biggest assest of a large stadium in the centre of a city that has no concert hall, is standing unused. From the clubs point of view this is a can''t lose situation, the franchise take on the risk and admittedly the larger profit, while the club get a nice cut and the sales from (overpriced) cups of tea and hot dogs. It also serves as a way to celebrate some former great players. I think asking a bunch of 60, 70 year olds to have a kick around is slightly unrealistic.Although most people on this board aren''t fans of the "music" talent on display, there certainly are a lot of fans out there and when I was near the ground around 2:30 quite a few people were heading into the ground. The problem with the club putting on it''s own events is they have to take the full risk if it should all go badly. Also this event has been two years in the planning, so to cancel it all because of Huckerby, when other Norwich legends had already commited to coming from America would of been an over reaction. It wasn''t for me so I didn''t go, and the same goes for a lot of others, but I''m sure many others will really enjoy themselves. I think the attitudes towards the event reflect our last season, if we had just got promoted then the event would of sold out in hours and we would all be singing the praises of the club for bringing so many former players back to the club.
17. The fact the EDP are reporting a story that everyone knows was false, a day late suggests they aren''t sure about the location of their arse and/or elbow let alone the transfer budget of Norwich City.I doubt we will be dropping a couple of millions on a host of players but let''s at least wait to see what happens before we start crying doom and gloom. Although not matter what happens some fans will cry doom.
18. A lot of the fees aren''t straight lump sums either, I''m pretty sure with McKenzie and Green we receive the money slowly depending on apprences/goals. Also half the transfer fees published in the press are guesses or the clubs straight out lying. And ever time a player signs a new contract they will get a nice signing on fee, and all the "free" transfers have one off payments to the players so it really is impossible to tell.I do think we have taken more than we have spent, but if you add in the season before when we bought Hucks, McKenzie etc then it might start to even out a bit.I think there will be cash for Roeder, a few million I guess. I also think nearly every transfer fee will be "undisclosed" as it is never polite to go around shouting how much money you have [:)]
19. The "Greatest Ever" event is run by a private company who are responsible for all the advertsing etc. so it is them rather than the club whipping up all this say goodbye to Hucks rubbish. As I understand it, Norwich can only win out of the deal. They take a percentage of the ticket sales, all the food and drink sales and only have to provide the stadium and endorse the event. If the club can make a few pounds out of it why complain so much? It''s not like you have to go.
20.
Wenger was dissapointed with the lack of matches for Gibbs (which incidentally must have been the reason he started the last 3 games, not because roeder wanted him in the starting 11, because he wanted to get some arsenal youngsters in for next season)
I believe Wenger''s dig was more at Burnley who only played Randell twice. I also felt Gibbs deserved his place in the squad towards the end of the season, he certainly played with a bit more composure than Russell.
21.
I''m sorry but am I the only one that thinks Ched is not worth £3million?
I''m with you and don''t think Evans if worth that much money, yet.He has bags of potential but vaule is based on his worth to both Man City and Norwich. As Man City are pretty rich and have a lot of good strikers, and looking to buy more probably so Evans is surplus to requirements, especially if a new manager comes in and wants to change things around. So this could push his value down to under a million to get a quick sale. However, Evans has become a fans favourite here and Man City will know that, so I would say his value is 1.5million for Norwich 1 million for everyone else (if that high). If Ishmael Miller is only worth 750k then Evans has to be around that vaule surely.
22. I say that our two best players were under 20, Evans and Bertrand. If they are good enough, does it matter how old they are??We have experienced heads in Russell, Docherty and Cureton so some young energy would do well.
23. Yes Darren Huckerby is 6 or 7 years younger than Darren Huckerby. Ridiculous.
24.
Who''s going to play in this game then, the club won''t let any of our players take part in any games out of season because of injury worries and most footballers are off on holiday at the beginning of June.
And as much as Hucks says he loves us all, I''m pretty sure he wouldn''t play a game unpaid and risk injuring himself when he doesn''t have another club and if he does get another club, I''m pretty sure they won''t let him go off and play a game and risk injuring himself. What I''m basically saying is "LET. IT. GO" (not directed at you CA, just the idea of a farewell game in general)
25.
20% people on here talking sense - i.e hucks is gone. move on! theres nothing you, or hucks can do now to change that 60% people are reasonible in saying we should kept him, he is your icon player to be fair. but not going over the top about it 20% just plain stupid in saying sack roeder etc....
I was actually thinking exactly the same thing as well today. I don''t care who he supports, this is actually a very fair assesment of what is going on, at least on this board, at the moment.
