Your turn Delia!
Beefy is a legend replied to Derby Canary's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Exactly Nige, There are some of our peers who have arguably achieved better than us. Swansea, Southampton, Leicester, West Brom, Stoke. But there are so many more who are way worse off. Portsmouth, Sheffield United, Wolves, Fulham, Birmingham, Aston Villa, Forest, Ipswich, Cardiff, QPR, Blackburn, Bolton, Charlton to name just some examples. We''re not the best of the bunch of what I would call ''medium sized'' clubs in this country, but we are far from the worst. -

I think there are one or two over romantic thoughts about Delia''s stewardship. Yes of course she stepped in when things were bleak. And for that she needs recognition. But I think we do have to recognise that we did spend some mediocre years until 2004 under her stewardship. And indeed we came very close to administration during this reign. Yes we are in a much better position now than previous but some of those "previouses" were her rsponsibility. It could be argued that it all changed with that 1-7 against Colchester.
To be fair though, I have never seen anyone say they are perfect, as is implied by some. There is a common sense middle ground that recognises they get things right, and they get things wrong. Just exactly the same as any other footballing board. Its just plain daft to say they never get anything right, at all.
Well said Morty -

The truth is that these suggestions of clueless owners and a shambolic football club have no real basis in fact. If you look at where we were when Smith & Jones took over the club, we are in a far better position now. Particularly the last 6 or 7 seasons we have spent plenty of time in the Premier League, a big achievement in itself for a club of our size which is always likely to be a Championship/lower Premier League standard. Arguably we''ve therefore been performing about as good as you could reasonably expect by having 5 seasons in 7 in the Premier League and competing for promotion when in the Championship. It''s a drastic improvement from my recollections of mid-table mediocrity in the late 90''s/early 00''s. Not to mention that the club is now debt free and is actually capable of signing some pretty expensive players and pay proper wages. Lack of ambition is also a baseless allegation. The club spends everything it earns. What more do we expect? Risk going bust to have a one season tilt at promotion? The owners are far from perfect. Mistakes have been made with appointments of managers, CEO''s etc. We should have made more of the Lambert years to establish ourselves in the PL like Stoke, Southampton, West Brom. But there is no question in my mind that our owners do everything with the best intentions as proper fans of our club. They don''t deserve half the stick that they get on this forum. We are lucky to have them. -
His agent said A N "tells a good story" in the edp report.. Wonder what he was getting at?
Looked like a translation issue to me. Sounded like he simply meant that AN spoke well about the club etc but the player decided it wasn''t for him.
Ok so lets take the argument we''re not bad in transfer windows and we''ve added a good amount of quality in the last couple of seasons. On that basis the manager must be failing miserably right now surely?
I''d say this is a more accurate reflection. We have a fine squad for this division, albeit I''m not sure the balance is quite right - too many flair players and not enough athleticism. You can criticise the overall recruitment policy in those terms in my view. All I''m saying is that, player by player, we have signed some good footballers and our record of success/failure is comparable to most other clubs.

Have to say I find it a bit lazy when people say how useless we are at transfer windows. We''ve signed some quality players over the last few windows. Just to name a few, Klose, Brady, Oliveira, Olsson, Pritchard. Even Naismith is starting to look decent. All clubs have their fair share of failures too, but I don''t see our record of signings being much different to other clubs. Some signings work out, some don''t.

Neil "Colin" Warnock for manager?
Beefy is a legend replied to Barnaby Bear's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I''d prefer to see Malky get the job, undoubtedly someone who will unite the fans more than NW. Although if Big Sam leaves the hammers I wouldn''t have a problem with him either. -
Whilst I''m always a backer of DM, I am disappointed that there isn''t any statement on the official website from DM/the board, and that he hasn''t been on the radio or anything yet. Maybe that will come after Sunday but really something should have been issued this week. I suppose that all parties may be taking stock with regard to how we go forward this season, which may account for some delay, but something should have been said by now.

Paul Lambert's "boring" football
Beefy is a legend replied to Holtcantshoot's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
He''s had quite a tough task at Villa IMO, having to dramatically reduce the wage bill yet contend with fans'' expectations that Villa should be a top half club. What it does show is that the grass isn''t always greener. He had created an enormous well of goodwill that meant that NCFC fans would not have turned on him anywhere near as easily as Villa fans have. All in all, his departure hasn''t worked out that well for us or for him. -
karsa and culverhouse suspended?
Beefy is a legend replied to thebigdub's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Rumours on Villa sites suggesting Culverhouse had an argument with one of the youth coaches named Cowans but it must be more than that, especially if Karsa has also been involved. It leaves Lambo in a very awkward position.
