  1. I may be wrong, but I think Naughton can also play left-back as a secondary option? If that''s right, it means we''ve got players who can/have played (admittedly, some at a push) in the following positions: RB - R.Martin, Naughton, De Laet, K.Smith, Francomb, Bennett LB - Tierney, Drury, R.Martin, Naughton, Lappin, Surman CB - Barnett, Ward, Whitbread, De Laet, R.Martin Plenty of defensive cover I think, as any more signings in this area could be over-kill. I would like an extra goalkeeper though, with Ruddy as first choice.
  2. The goal was given to Jackson on Saturday, who allegedly knocked it over the line.
  3. It seems like McNamee, Tudor-Jones, Oli Johnson, McDonald, Hughes & Stephen Smith are out of contention based solely on team selections so far. Of course, they could be injured, but of that list I can only see McNamee interesting Lambert, and Wilbraham looks unlikely after being left out completely today. Assuming none of the above are included in the squad, and Drury/Whitbread are only injured (rather than not wanted), we''ve got 4 spaces in the squad by my maths. A goalkeeper, at least one defender, and a midfielder would round it off nicely.
  4. Francomb playing in both halves (and scoring a screamer), is interesting. Lambert clearly wants to give him time to impress, and must think something of him given the more ''established'' players seemingly left at home.
  5. DJ Campbell is a pretty decent signing for £1.25million. If we weren''t well equipped in attack already, he''s one I''d be looking at. However, I said it way before last season ended, and I''ll stand by it now - QPR will finish rock bottom next season by a considerable distance.
  6. I love how Wiz has essentially labelled every single journalist as ''scum'', yet runs off crying claims of ''bullying'' whenever anybody says something against him.
  7. Never in a million years. I''d be disgusted if we signed him.
  8. Fully agree that defence needs to be prioritised right now. Once we''ve got a goalkeeper and (at least) one defender in (and maybe another defensive-minded midfielder), I''d imagine Lambert will see what he''s got left and make a decision then. My prediction is Pacheco (initially on loan) in late August, and Lansbury permanently in January.
  9. Not saying we''re signing him (we don''t really need any more attacking midfielder''s, although I still wouldn''t turn him down!), but Lansbury''s been left out of Arsenal''s 23-man squad for their tour of Asia. The likes of Miyaichi (18), Frimpong (19) and Traore (21) have been included. Of course, he could have only been left out because he''s being given extra time to recover from playing for the U21''s this summer, but it doesn''t look a good omen for him.
  10. Pacheco will be staying put at Liverpool until all his international commitments are completed. Absolutely no chance of going to Blackpool, as if he goes anywhere, it will be to a Premiership side. If he goes to a Premiership side (permanently, or otherwise) it will in most likelihood be us. I personally think we''ll see Dani arrive back on a season-loan in late August, although I''d love a permanent deal. Potentially a truly brilliant player, and clearly a pretty well-grounded and pleasant person!
  11. I''d rather we kept Korey Smith (and to a lesser extent Francomb and Adeyemi) in the squad personally. None will need to be registered, so will boost squad numbers, and the reserve league (as well as being fringe players every now and then, as well as playing in cup matches) should develop them. I do however (perhaps a slight contradiction) think Rudd needs regular first-team games, so would look to loan him out - once we have another experienced goalkeeper. I don''t see why people think we''d sell Surman if Lansbury signed. Much like Smith, etc., Lansbury would not need to be registered, so it''s not like he''d be taking up ''Surman''s space''. We may as well (if we bring him in) just have another option in the squad. That said, I can''t see Lansbury returning, as we''re well equipped in that area. Steven Smith, Tudor-Jones and Hughes (shame, as I think he has ability )to leave permanently; Oli Johnson, Cody McDonald and Rudd out on loan would be my decision. Undecided on Chris Martin, keep McNamee for now.
  12. No it''s the Jonny Evans who plays for Manchester United. The ''Jonny Evans'' who signed for Sunderland is known better as ''Wes Brown'', or ''John O''Shea'' to friends...
  13. I think we''ll sign 3 more players (either 2 permanent and a loan, or 3 permanent), and possibly even a fourth. What we have done however, is get most of our business done early, so we can concentrate on the ''final touches''. Meanwhile, the likes of QPR will be desperately starting from scratch and won''t have time to gel any players they do sign.
  14. For me, we are definitely a GK and CB short. I wouldn''t mind an extra defensive-minded midfielder either. Then a late move for Pacheco to complete our attack. He wouldn''t need to be registered (so wouldn''t affect our 25), and could compete both up-front and with Hoolahan.
  15. This squad would win the Championship at a canter in my opinion. We''ve not lost anything from our main side of last season (excluding perhaps Lansbury and later Pacheco), but have added even more depth, and a host of different attacking options. McNamee aside, we didn''t have wingers last year. We now have two goal-scoring wingers in addition to him, as well as two further strikers.
  16. Even on a pay-per-play deal, Hargreaves would cost an absolute bomb right now. However, if he''s not got a club by late August, and is able to realise that he has a straight choice between a second chance in the game (with no clubs taking him on) on infinitely lower wages, or having to retire, he may be worth a go. We''d probably only get a dozen or so games from him at the absolute maximum, but he could be a good person to have around the place if the money is right. Basically, I''m undecided. For now, definitely not. In a month and a half, he could be a decent acquisition if and only if he shows the right attitude.
  17. David James would be an absolutely outstanding signing, providing you ignore the facts that he: Is almost 41. Made a string of errors last season - far more than Ruddy did. Has proven himself to have a ''mightier than thou'' attitude in recent seasons. Will be on ridiculous wages. Is no better currently (and certainly won''t be in the future) than John Ruddy. Has already been disrespectful to one of our ''youth'' keepers he would supposedly mentor. I think I''ll pass personally...
  18. Purely guesswork of course, but this is how I see our squad shaping up for the 25-man ruling. The players capitalised won''t need to be registered, as they are under the age requirement (I believe?): GK - Ruddy, RUDD, STEER Defence - Tierney, Drury, R.Martin, De Laet, Ward, Barnett, Whitbread, FRANCOMB Midfield - Fox, Crofts, Johnson, Bennett, Surman, Lappin, Hoolahan, McNamee, Hughes, K.SMITH, ADEYEMI Attack - Holt, Vaughan, Morison, Jackson, Martin Included in that are a couple of ''maybe'' players (namely Hughes and McNamee, although I think both will be included in the original squad). After being on the fringes/out on loan last season, the likes of Daley/Oli Johnson/McDonald will probably not be in contention. By my calculations that leaves us with 22 players selected (i.e. 3 spaces), which gives us a chance to bring in a centre-back, extra winger (Pilkington?) and goalkeeper (Forster?). That would take us to 25, and even then a couple of players (like Hughes/McNamee) may drop out of contention. Because of their ages, I wouldn''t be surprised if one or both of Pacheco and Lansbury made a return late in the window.
  19. One injury (obtained from a bad tackle) doesn''t make him a crock? He''s less of a ''crock'' from the third tier than someone like Whitbread - who has ultimately been fantastic for us - supposedly was for example. Pilkington has made 90 league starts in the two years (signing in January ''09 and getting injured in March ''11) since joining Huddersfield. Near enough an ever-present. In fact, getting a broken leg in March and being ready for pre-season training further illustrates that he''s most definitely not a ''crock''. That said, I know where you''re coming from, and he''s just had a very serious injury. However, if there were any doubts over his long-term fitness, we would not be considering him, so I''ll presume (if we do go after him) that Lambert has - as ever - done his homework.
  20. Why would they sell their captain, best player, and biggest goal threat since Carroll left to a Championship club?
  21. Pilkington would be a great signing. We still need another player who can play on either flank or even in Hoolahan''s role, and he can do just that. As others have alluded to, he''s got a few similarities with Snodgrass, but comes at a much cheaper price. I''m not convinced Snodgrass is better either, as he''s got serious fitness issues which have shown from Christmas onwards the last two years. If we can get Pilkington, then our midfield/attack will start looking very decent. On either wing we could play him/Bennett/McNamee (who I think will stay as back-up until at least January), or go with more ''defensive'' options like Crofts/Korey Smith/Surman/Lappin/etc when needed. As I''ve said, it gives us options through the middle as well, and I don''t think goal-scoring will be our main problem next year. A defensive midfielder (Johnson?, although I''d prefer someone else), a goalkeeper (Forster linked?) and a CB (I''d like Steven Caulker) and we''ll be heading towards having a competitive squad.
  22. Because I''d imagine your players will steadily grow tired of not having any team-mates, whether they liked them or not...
