What if we hadnt had Earnshaw last season ?? relegation in all probability , you cannot replace class with poor players and expect to improve , Cureton is a 32 year old journeyman who had one good season in a massively overperforming side he is no Robert Earnshaw not by any stretch of the imagination . As for these players who are desperate to play for City , i wonder how desperate they would be say if Derby wanted them , they want whats best for them and thats the wage packet nothing more . Free payers yes you can get some bargains if the player has refused to sign a new contract at his club , but apart from semi that isnt the case , Fotheringham had no club , Murray was unwanted at Rangers ,the Cameroon guy has no club , it stinks of doing things on the dirt cheap .
A very good point made ncfc. Im giving all of PGs signings a chance as i believe Lappin has started to show a bit and Fotheringham before his injury but whats to say any of these players have total commitment and loyalty towards us? If any of the signings prove the quality whos to say they wont do an Earnie at the end of season or even January and yes that inclueds JC.
Loyaly works both ways arthur. What happened to Chris Sutton (for example) when £5m came calling ? Norwich born and bred, father ex.city. Didn''t hear him say this is my club so I''m staying put, did you ?
Sorry Lappin if ive misunderstood you but thats my point, people are saying we now have players who want to play for the club but what if a bigger/better placed club came in? would they stick around? Earnie is often used as an example and rightly so but im sure whilst he was here he tried his best just like JC is doing now. So to say we now have a team totally commited to ncfc is a little premature imo. Sorry again if ive missed you point.

 3.

yeah yeah whatever...  look at leeds, look at leeds... we don''t want to do a leeds..  whatever the hell that is.... We don''t want to do a Ipswich... or a Derby...  no wait, yes we do ...
‘We don’t want to do an Ipswich!!!!!’ What the hell is that supposed to mean!!!! Another example of mindless useless chat!!!   And as for Derby who had a lucky season last season, they are fast becoming the whipping boys of the Premiership!!! Given the choice I would rather hold of for a year or two build a squad, of which PG is doing and then be prepared for a good fight for when that time comes.   CJF your living in fantasy land!!!
Derby had a lucky season? Well in that case we had a lucky season when we went up and made the play offs so in your head we have had crap seasons since the Delia and co reign?
 4.

Why is our club shrinking away before our eyes? We''re actually becoming little old norwich. Can anybody convince me that we''re not shrinking away?[:''(] I''m getting so fed up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....!!!! Give us back our club, Delia Smith. And stop hiding. [st] OTBC
Well BBB, I am sure if you went round with a big bag of cash Delia would be more than happy to sell you on a share (or all of it if you could find £40million). Alternatively if the 20,000 who turn up week in week out clubbed together with £2000 quid each they could have their precious club "back" - but they won''t because they don''t care that much (or can''t afford to). Until that happens it might be time to stop whining[;)], cut out the snide innuendo [:O]& stick to the footy [D]. Saturday was a sickener to us all [st]
BigFish. Forget about the stock insults for the time being. Forget also for a moment the other argument about whether the club is ''ours'' or not. Please answer me this question from your heart - is the club not shrinking away before our eyes? OTBC
No it is not. On the field it largely fulfills the position that we have got used to over the last decade which is lower mid-table championship. The exception seasons prove the rule with one play-off final & one promotion. The premiership season was always going to end one way as so many teams find (Derby this year?). This description probably describes anything up to a dozen clubs spread from the bottom of the prem into the top of the Championship. Off the field with 24,000 plus attendences, ok but slightly smallish ground and finances stable it would seem to be flourishing. So shrinking, certainly not. So what was your point again?
And it seems the board are starting to reap the benifits of constantly playing down the potential of Norwich with your comment mate, the first line says it all!
 5.

I actually think we''re a great club, but hey that''s not allowed now is it?
Couldnt agree more Dicky i think we are a great CLUB to. Shame others dont see it that way if you get my drift mate.
Nothing like a bit of pathos, is there ?! Of course all of us who post on here, including Old Salt, think that Norwich is a great club. If we didn''t think that then we wouldn''t have any passion, wouldn''t care and therefore wouldn''t bother posting on this MB.It is exactly because I love our club that I get so damn angry at the incompetent and unambitious way it has been run. Like everybody else, I have had to sit and watch a shocking decline over the last few years. The promotion year had been a long time a coming and I can clearly remember the excitement I felt when our return to the Premiership was confirmed and then the feeling of disquiet at the "Prudence with ambition" claptrap that so many fans accepted without question and then of course the start of the slide that continues unabated today. The fact that people like me criticise shows that they care - perhaps even more so than those who seem to believe that the act of criticising reflects disloyalty or, more stupidly, suggests that the critic is either a muppet or an Ipswich fan.
Pathos?  Ummmmmm.  Thinking we''re a great club means that I would never state publicly that we are crap.  Of course there are frustrating times supporting a club such as Norwich, especially at the moment, but constantly criticising does not show you care it just shows you are a negative moany type. Get behind the team for goodness sake - you are supposed to be a supporter, through thick and thin.  Be realistic, there is no easy solution to our woes, constantly sniping at people doing the best they can for the club is counter productive.  As a supporter, the most important thing you can do is support your club.
Dicky tou''ve missed the point, nobody on this site has ever suggested we are not a great club, wonderful memorys of Wembly, Munich and Milan will but a line under that but by supporting people who imo are taking the club backwards is counter productive. I would even go as far as saying the likes of you are the ones doing the damage but i would wouldnt i because im the negative moany type.

 7.

That post of yours has made me think Yellow Hammer. Just wish that everyone who moans and groans on here could back their worries up as well as you have.
Im not sure i understand where everyone is coming from here?? Hammer has put across some excellent points but they have more or less been mentioned by other posters such as Ricky, smudge cluck bly ect ect so why the new negavity from the likes of you and others? At the end of the day you can word it how you want be nice or not we''re still up S@?t street under this current board. I and many others have seen the problem for a long time so these points shouldnt really come as surprise to some, its more a case now of how to go about reversing these sorry trends.
That''s the whole point arthur. I don''t think there''s a single fan out there who is happy with things at the moment but while you constantly criticise the board and then undermine that criticism with sarcasm and petty name calling, nobody will take you seriously. I have asked you on several occasions how to replace the board but you have NEVER given me a serious reply (in fact, in most cases, no reply at all). The only action suggested by most ''anti-board'' fans seems to be protest but this is soundly rebuffed by ''pro-board'' fans because they know how damaging this action would be and that the aftermath would take years to recover from. Another poster has called for the board to resign but the can''t do that can they?. They actually own the club!!  They can only sell it but do you know of anyone out there who wants to buy it. In my view, the first action to take would be to form some form of delegation. Then canvass supporters for their views (on matchday). Then if you consider you have enough support get it in writing (a petition). Then arrange a meeting with the board to express the fans views and concerns. At the very least the board would have a clear understanding of the discontent among supporters which they seemingly don''t have now and it would give them a chance to take action BEFORE a fans rebellion. Something like this has to be more sensible than simply moaning on a message board or in the local press and less devisive than any sort of protest. Over to you arthur.
Ive said on many occasions that im not sure what road to go down with regards to the board selling up and i do agree that some kind of delegation needs to be set up to get the points of contention across to the board. My point is that by having an almost blind faith in the current powers we are, imo, only doing damage to the club because the stats are all what matters to me and they dont lie. I can see that most of the posters on here are intellegent and care about the club [More intellegent than this old bugger!] but it seem  these points have been mentioned in the past only to be dismissed as folly. Yes some of my points are ott and badly put but they pretty much say the same as Hammers. Im sure most people can see our failings so why has nothing been suggested? Why do people back the board with such vigour? Where are the arguements to make me see different? I havent heard any Lappin mate. So Yes, i can see why im not taken seriously but imo its no different to the ones who back them.

Now if im wrong in my comments about how the spin is working at CR maybe you would like to refer to my poll on supporting the board. regards
 10.
Well put Yellow Hammer. At last a reasoned argument for why the board should be critised. It made me sit back and think (which is quite an achievement I can tell you!) Maybe something to be learnt here about how to persuade people Aurther?
Yes i agree hes put his points across in a much better way then i ever could but they are still my exact sentiments just better worded and more thought provoking.
 11.
The NCFC board has had plenty of time to get it right, but they have made huge mistakes ever since they first arrived: 1. Sacked our most successful manager ever (Mike Walker) after two consecutive 5-0 home wins. 2. Failed to match the ambition of Bruch Rioch by selling Craig Bellamy 3. Appointed the awful Bryan Hamilton 4. Led the legal fiasco against the TV companies for Champoinship viewing rights, case thrown out by the Judge after five minutes 5. Failed to allocate funds to sign Dean Ashton at the beginning of our promotion season 6. After one season in the Premiership massively increased our level of debt 7. Embarrasinng the club with that famous incoherent ''Let''s be ''aving you'' outbusrt 8. Supported Nigel Worthington long after his sell-by-date and only released him after fan pressure 9. Failed to replace NW with a proven, experienced manager 10. Allowed two new members onto the board for the price of the interest on two million pounds while other clubs were attracting investors with millions guaranteed. Posters on here were talking about rumoured secret funds available for transfers; but in reality the money put up probably covered NCFC running costs during the close season 11. Dismissed the possibility of foreign investment without first consulting the fans. 12. Paid out the highest amount to agents and hangers-on in the Championship in the first season after relegation - proving what a soft touch the board is. 13 Allowed get-out clauses in players'' contracts at too low levels. 14. Failed to allocate funds for a central defender this season There have been some positives: 1. Signing Huckerby. Actually paid for by the fans in a special share issue 2. Acheiving promotion. For which we salute them 3. Saving us from bankruptcy. As poster have previously pointed out, Geoff Watling had a major part in this. However, praise where it is due DS & MWJ stepped up to the plate when neccessary. So I make that 14 negatives against 3 positives. The root problem of this club is that the board are just amateurs in a professional game. They just don''t have the neccessary skills to run the club. They have rightly earned a lot of goodwill from the fans from what they have done in the past; but football moves on and NCFC has to move with it.  The board are making far too many mistakes, and it is time for them to move on, too
Well said hammer some good points, some of which seem to have been either forgotten or ignored by many. The point about Hamilton is one examble of Delias Knowledge of the game especially if my memory serves me she came out saying BH was the man she personally wanted all along!. Also because of the chummy way she courted Worthy and his missus on a personal level, this made it very hard for the board to sack Worthy. You should never mix buiseness with Pleasure. It seems the board has a fixation with trying to be seen as an honest family run club more obsessed with image then results and look where we are.

 13.
It may seem silly and predictable but thats my honest feeling today. I mean, we have the best fans in the world, and our players flog their guts out for the club. Yet through all this, I really believed we would have signed a new centre half, because lets be honest here, we desperately need one!. I really don''t want this post to degenerate into a ''hate the club'' type post, but why oh why did Hucks sit on the bench for so long and why was Chadders, my Man Of the Match against Cardiff, taken off to make way for him?. The removal of Brellier for Croft was suicidal in my opinion! I still support the team and the club, but I''ll admit to being nervous in all other matters!. You guys who post on here are good at judging the current situation, far better that I am, but I am left feeling betrayed by certain elements within the club today, and its got me a bit worried. So can you advise an old worried wiz by answering my following questions please: 1. Is Grant the Messiah and how long would YOU give him to produce the results?. 2. Has the board backed the fans ambitions and hopes?. 3. Should Docherty and Brown be dropped in favour of the youth players?. I value your opinions, and up until the Hull game I had utter faith in the manager and board, its still there mind, but I have seen certain things which have shaken that belief a little bit. Please help restore it, Many thanks, wiz.
Wiz Wiz Wiz you never cease to amaze me old pal!
 14.
Dear Arthur, I have noticed your recent letters in the Evening News, as well as your numerous posts on this forum, and it is evident that you are discontent with the current board of directors. It seems that you appear willing to assume a role similar to that of Roy Blower in the battle to remove Robert Chase during the mid 90''s. Unfortunately however you do not appear to have the universal support or even the support of a significant proportion of season ticket holders. It is apparent that you are attempting to drum up support for your cause, I must point out however that City fans at current are the the most optimistic they have been for at least two years - yet you still do not have a single good word to say about the football club. Do you not think that it would be in yours and everyone elses best interests if you suspended this vendetta until the potential is there for your campaign to both work and be of some benefit to the club at all? I suggest a few possible scenarios: 1) Poor financial management sends the club into administration. 2) We are in the relegation zone. 3) Average attendances dip below 20,000. These three circumstances would quite rightly suggest that a change in the boardroom is necessary, however your personal opinions and ''manifesto'' if you like do not counter these possible eventualities. I believe i am correct in saying that: 1) You want the board to spend all of its cash reserve / credit capability in the transfer market in one season, putting the club in immediate financial danger (the point where the club cannot borrow more) 2) If those players/the current manager/the new investors choice of manager and whichever squad of players that managers chooses underperform (see leeds) and yet we have no money left to rebuild the squad (as we have spent all of our money as per point 1) then we would be have an immediate and realistic threat of relegation in either the short or long term future. 3) The average league attendance under the Delia reign has grown from approximately 16000 to approximately 25000. This suggests that people are firstly content and that secondly any growth in gate reciepts (against the national trend) have been as the direct result of the current boards management. I therefore believe that if you were to run the club (and yes i know you dont want to run the club!!) then we would be in a much worse situation than we find ourselves at current. I also believe that a new board (if sensible, sane and not a russion billionaire) would run the club in much the same way that delia and co are running the club now. Yours Sincerely.   Ryan.
P.S. What makes you think ive got no support anyway? Because a few people on a messgae bo9ard disagree with me? Well what about the letters of support in the evening news?

With regards to your scenarios i believe the management of funds is no better now then it has ever been bar the end of the chase days bearing in mind the money made from prem/parachute ans season ticket sales. We ARE or there abouts in the relagation zone and were very close last season. As for attendences, imo thats only a matter of time. 1. I dont want the board to invest ALL the money, i want the board to invest the money they tell us they will. How,with our ticket sales, parachute ect ect are we struggling to compete with teams like Hull,Preston,Palace ect ect? Ambition is a long lost word at CR i believe we have money you only have to look at the wonderful amenitys that litter CR whilst we watch average football. 2. This question is to hypothectical to answer short of a worse case scenario. Its like me saying the same but the other way round mate. Really its a matter of opinion, We wouldnt give a manager this long so why do we put up with poor corridor dealing at the club, remember are no better off now than under Chase. 3. I believe the attendences are due to brief encounters with the prem and the hope of a one off season again. I can bet my life they wont be as high next season. This thread is very hypothetical and depending on your opinions. You say the club would be worse off but only if it doesnt achieve the goals . I bit silly really mate. Regards

Its all good and well being a cuddly club where the owner sits with the fans and sings the songs ect ect but whats the point if your watching crap teams beat us in league 2?
 23.

Have you heard the saying Bigger Picture?  This is old ground but who gives the manager limited funds ? Who decides on who the manager should be? Who sanctions the Wage budget/limits thus having a barring on the quality of players? How many other examples do you need? Who has succeeded in dumbing down Norwich fans expectations by labelling the club ''LITTLE OLE NORWICH'' even though we sell more season tickets than all of the championship clubs and half the prem? Where have we gone in the last few years under BIG D and co? Get my drift....?
In the "last few years" BIG D (?) and co have taken us into The Premiership, unless I was dreaming. As you''re so fond of looking at the "bigger picture". P.S. They haven''t dumbed down my expectations. The phrase "little old Norwich" or whatever hasn''t been used since we beat Man Utd. The only dumbing down being done is by the people who keep bringing it up to further their own little agenda.
Yep and straight back down again and we''ve hardly invested the parachute payments to the degree that would of taken us back. If and its a big IF the spin merchants came out one season and suggested that before ticket sales [remember we have maybe the biggest in the league] we would still have to sell and there was no money available i think it would be somewhat more palatable. Imo attendences compared to league position suggests that the lack of ambition has seaped into the majority of supporters. why is that? well i believe a compination of Delia and co bailing us out when we needed it and the odd glimpse of prem football every 5-6years, but if we brush that aside the figures are somewhat depressing in relation to the fans loyalty. Would a manager get this long at the club? No.,so why cant we actively try to promote new investment into what is a far bigger club than the likes of QPR,Portsmouth,Fulham,Wigan,Boro..ect ect. Looking back at one or two threads people are pleased we''ve progressed to the 3rd round of the carling cup arfter beating the mighty Rochdale on pens,! Dont get me wrong mate,im pleased but.......!!
 24.
Arthur, Im sure you weren''t really hurt by being called an argumentative old codger but if you were I will apologise. Now getting back to your argumentative post, I wasn''t talking about Delia. I was replying to the thread about who would get promoted first sayuing that there was a school of thought that Mandaric was no good without the love of his life Rednapp and that he struggled in this league before Rednapp was manager. I also pointed out that his falling out with Allen could add weight to that particular argument. I felt these facts were relevent to the issue of who may be promoted first. I would suggest that the words prudence and ambition in the same post that I highlighted in yellow and green for light-hearted effect were the red rag to you particular old bulls [;)]
Actually NN your right i wasnt upset, i get called worse by the wife every day! i''ll pull these old horns in now. regards
 25.

If I wasa betting man my money would be on Leicester. Can anybody suggest why I think so? OTBC
I doubt if its anything to do with a board who have ambition. I mean you only have To look at the ooooohhh so big club called Portsmouth. They we''re massive, much bigger than Norwich and look at them now!!!!!!!!
Although Mandaric undoubtedly has ambition it may be prudent to remember that in his first three seasons at Portsmouth they finished 18th, 20th and 17th in this division. Then at the same time as the ITV Digital collapse he brought in ''arry and they stormed the league gaining their Premiership status that they have held on to ever since. Now there are many people who suggest that Mandaric is a failure without Rednapp, and although I am not convinced, this episode with Martin Allen just adds fuel to that particular fire.
And can you give me our positions under the DS please?
Nutty won''t reply to that, Arthur. OTBC
Just did although I am not sure what I was replying to. What part of my post are you two argumentative old codgers [sn] trying to pick a fight about?[:^)]
Well i will make it a little easier for you as you clearly have trouble understanding old codgers dont you? Can you show me the comparasons between Mandaric and the saviour Delia? I  expect that you will find his ambition has payed off handsomely i also expect you to revert to more name calling if your stuck in a corner. they say the truth hurts. Ive been a city fan all my life but because i dont follow your blind faith in individuals that imo are taking OUR club nowhere you feel the need for insults. Please stick to the footy side of things and keep it nice.
Now that is a contradiction if I ever saw one !!
Also, maybe you would like to add to the football related side of my question with regards to the Mandaric/Delia comparisons? Or are you just picking up petty points aswell?
