  1. Driving forward with the ball and releasing passes to the forward players, arriving in or on the edge of the box without it to be in the right position should the ball arrive, and finally his long range shooting. As a result, it's better for him to start deeper. It's more difficult to do these things when he's expected to be playing off Sargent.
  2. You made a similar post just before the Leeds match, and I backed it up with the theory that players nowadays have functions rather than positions. The same applies here.
  3. This is a conundrum which isn't easily to solve, and I've been thinking about it for a few weeks. Both the Nuñez-McLean combo and the Nuñez-Sara one before Christmas when Kenny was in defence seem more fluid than the Sara-McLean duo. Barnes is more effective than Sara as a ten. I certainly wouldn't drop McLean; he's an excellent player at this level and has showed this season how important he is. I definitely wouldn't drop Sara either as he's arguably our best player. We have four players for three positions, and I guess it's just nice to have options so we play the three that suit the occasion and also allow us to rotate.
  4. The post itself was OK, but the thread title was antagonistic, whether intentional or subconscious. It was clearly a dig at the moaners, which only serves to exacerbate the divide between them and us sensible folk. 😉
  5. You surely can't mean the man who has just won our Player of the Month twice in a row?
  6. I have to say that I've felt the same recently and today proved it, so I agree completely with the sentiment of the opening post if not the tone. Sara does look better breaking into forward areas from deep where he has less chance of being picked up, and I think the view that he should play as a ten is mainly because he has high numbers of goals and assist, but playing someone further up the pitch for that reason is far too simplistic. Barnes was also excellent today when he came on, so at least for home games coming up, I think Barnes as a ten and Sara box-to-box is the way forward.
  7. The point of the post was that it was not 'different', as this is what a few conspiracy theorists were saying last week when the window was still open. I'm guessing the sarcasm wasn't quite obvious enough.
  8. This must've been a fun watch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbados_4–2_Grenada?wprov=sfla1
  9. As tempting as Ivory Coast at a massive 13/10 is, I'll go for a more safe Man City against Brentford at 2/5. I know Brentford did the double over them last season, but I think Man City are about to embark on their usual sprint finish.
  10. I lived there for five years and had a season ticket for three, so I still try to watch all their games. I think I've seen 18 of the 22 league games so far this season, and after a bright start, they've only won one of the last 17, which was one of the games I missed, so it has been a pretty tough watch recently.
  11. Not gonna lie, it does have that sort of vibe. I've brought up form, confidence and a run of games a few times over the last few days when discussing Idah and van Hooijdonk, and Placheta falls into a similar category. I still think he's very limited technically and not good enough to be here, but if you put some confidence and self-belief into a winger with his pace, then you might have yourself a half-decent impact player.
  12. I'm happy to get him off the wage bill and away from the pitch. Any fee would've been a bonus.
  13. I think I've watched more live Premier League football this round of matches than I have all season, probably due to them not clashing with Norwich or Lecce for a change, and I certainly picked a few good games! Justice was done in the Wolves-Utd game, both in terms of balance of play and that iffy penalty decision, but what a finish to the match that was.
  14. After being rebuffed in their attempts to sign Jack Clarke, Jon Rowe and Morgan Whittaker, Lazio's insistence on signing an English winger appears to have bore fruit, with Ryan Kent on the verge on signing for them.
  15. I also agree with the sentiments that Moore is a very good signing for Ipswich. Would I have liked him here? I guess it depends on our plans. If we're thinking short-term and going all out for a promotion push this season, as Ipswich are, then yes. However, I think we're more looking towards building for next season now, which is why a loan-to-buy for van Hooijdonk probably makes more sense. That's not to say that we've given up on promotion of course, but it looks like we've accepted it's unlikely and if we reach the playoffs, great, but planing ahead is the priority.
  16. His injury was announced in early November and the baby was born three months early on December 17, so I think the injury was genuine. Incredibly, his first game back for us after the injury was on December 23, less than a week after the birth, which must've been incredibly tough given what he was going through. I doubt the fans who booed him that day had any idea just how committed he must have been to be available that day, as he didn't announce his daughter's birth until Christmas Eve.
  17. I voted no, but by the time I reached the end of writing this post I may have convinced myself that it's not a bad deal after all. Based on what I've seen from Idah at Norwich and van Hooijdonk at Bologna, Idah strikes me as a better player. However, it's worth noting that both of them are in incredibly similar situations whereby they're 23 years of age and have struggled for game time at their current clubs over the last few years. I'm sure that both of them have the potential to develop, especially given their physical qualities and the fact these types of strikers tend to peak later. Fingers crossed that van Hooijdonk turns out to be decent with a bit of match fitness and confidence under his belt. However, I'd personally rather give a chance to, and develop, a homegrown talent rather than shipping him out and signing someone who doesn't appear to be any better right now. The only upside is that Idah doesn't have an option to buy in the deal apparently whereas van Hooijdonk does, so we get Idah back in the summer no matter what but can send van Hooijdonk back if he doesn't perform. That does make it a bit of a 'win-win' situation, and also is what we've crying out for since 2019: send Idah on loan for regular minutes, even if it means us signing a different backup in his place.
  18. The Eredivisie always has a high number of goals which often inflates goalscoring records. van Hooijdonk scored plenty so it's still a good record, however.
  19. He obviously does look better in that video than he has done when I've seen him for Bologna. I guess that shows the difference between a player low on confidence and short on game-time, and one who is playing regularly, in form, and full of belief. Which, ironically, has been the problem with Idah for several years now.
  20. I remember when I was at uni, I did more than half of my dissertation in the final week despite having about seven months to do it. The SDs and managers in the world of football are worse than students for this sort of stuff.
  21. Most of the strikers in the Championship are a downgrade on Idah, or at least no better than a step sideways.
