I’m struggling with posts that seem to be saying “why didn’t we do a better job of testing Liverpool?”. We held them to 0-0 until the 78th minute and spurned chances when we had them. It was close. Yes, we could have made changes, but it’s as likely that they would have made us more defensively vulnerable as more offensively effective.

Putting Mane on is not an option for us. It’s different when the alternative is Drmic.

Did you not see the Man U game? I don’t like to criticise players but in that game he was slow, error prone and not aware enough. Yes, sometimes he has been very influential but it will depend on the opposition and what side of the bed he’s got out of.

I started to reply, and then went to see who I was replying to. It’s not a surprise to see it’s you LDC, you seem always ready to tell others how they should live their lives. You make a very fair point that some people have different resilience to others, and it’s good to put yourself in their shoes, but then suggest dropping social media! You’re not under 25, you have no experience of what it’s like to have grown up in an era where the internet is a central part of people’s lives. Suggesting a 21 year old give it up is like telling them to stop drinking - it’s not impossible, but you are asking them to drop something that is how their social group communicates, that’s core to their everyday life. It’s not going to go away, so we have to learn how to live with it, and I think Todd seems to be doing a pretty good job.

I think you’re right though, at minimum a very rigorous education in using social media, at worst, a complete ban, would be sensible. I knew someone who used to work in the CPS who offered training about sexual law and consent to football clubs for their young players to avoid a “Ched Evans” type incident. Sad that it’s even necessary.

Yeah, but... who is really established in the PL? One bad decision and you could be down. I can see that financially we might want a couple more seasons of PL revenue and some big sales but you have to go for it at some point, regardless of what league you’re in short-term.

It's very unusual for a transfer fee to be paid in a lump sum, the liability is amortised over several seasons. Maddison was the exception that proved the rule, as we needed the cash ASAP so Leicester probably got a good deal because they (apparently) paid upfront. Given that the income from any sale(s) will be spread over several seasons, that positions us well to invest more gradually - and sensibly - in players with potential, the academy, and our infrastructure. The future's bright, the future's yellow!
