3.
sat on a train hauling back across country I should socialise (note the spelling) with others
I did note the spelling - why don''t you take a look at this http://www.metadyne.co.uk/ize.html  socialize is perfectly acceptable English.  The English ''s'' and American ''z'' has only become very prominent since the widespread use of Microsoft, as they state that (incorrectly) in their dictionaries.  Note that the Oxford English Dictionary states that both are acceptable English.   As for the OP, nice find, despite pandering to the stereotypes.  I thought it was strange that they thought having a Marks & Spencer is particularly posh, but I guess that they find any shop without a brick shaped hole in the window is posh...
 4.

Christ on a bike! What''s wrong with you people? I''ve just watched the video & I don''t think I''ve ever seen him LESS angry. He just looks resigned &, with a lot of rueful smiling, accepting of the situation. The only slightly odd comment was about not expecting to be here in 5 years. It''s a matter of opinion, but I reckon that''s because he thinks he''ll be sacked before then, rather than resigning. He''s a very rare beast. He''s driven by fear of failure much more than ego. Don''t forget the sort of teams he was managing before he came here. Our, & therefore his, position now must seem even more of a dream to him than it does us. He''s always known his budget, but probably hoped he could tempt the right sort of player to take a gamble on us. That hasn''t happened. Yet.
This is a theme that he has run with since he took over. He has always said that our success is down to the Board, the players and the fans but any failures will be his fault.
After being asked about youth players coming through... PL: How many years Interviewer: A couple PL (with a laugh): So that means I will be here 5 years Int: Why not? PL:There''s hardly any manager, erm, none in modern day football have been 5 years   I think this is just PL having a joke with the interviewer
 5.
Lambert looked and sounded angry on CW today. When talking about transfers or rather lack of. I do hope the board haven''t been misleading him over availible funds.
Just watched the interview.  I have to say that when he was first asked about transfers (@ 1:30 in the clip) he looked and sounded no more angry than he did when he answered questions about injuries or Martin O''Niel''s success.    In fact if you watch the clip at 9:00 onwards, he is asked about his list of targets and he is laughing as he answers.    As someone else mentioned, this is just Wiz doing his usual stirring.
 6.
In this article from Michael Cox in The Guardian.   "Lambert is proving to be one of the league''s most interesting managers."   Not seen too much discussion on our occasional use of three at the back on here but it is quite unusual in the Premier League.
although it is a bit poor when they can''t even read the team sheet...   "Simon Pilkington caused havoc in his new role"
 7.
Might get them in the FA cup i suppose....!
Do you really expect our youth team to get through to the next round?
 8.
Watch this from 1:18 - how long after Barton was slapped did he fall down like being hit by a sniper?
Would help if I put in the link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KniNzbCiJkk

 10. *It is ok to make that error occasionally [:$]   No need to provide me feedback - I know my writing is not very good!
 11. I find it difficult to read, you are overly describing something, then not providing clarity of the object of what you are describing.  Two examples from the 2nd paragraph:   "Under close attention from Herman Heridasson , Andrew Crofts’ awkwardly controls" - here the reader has to assume that ''controls'' refers to the ball "Portsmouth’s 6 retreats to cover the run of Holt and Dickinson lumbers to pay closer attention to Crofts’." - Is that Portsmouth''s number six, six defenders, six midfield players.  Also when writing it is usual to write the word for numbers below ten.   It is ok doing to amke that error occasionally, as when used right it can add pace and tension to the writing.  However, when you are repeatedly forced to go back and think about what the sentance was about it breaks up the flow that you are trying to create.    You also need to check the spelling, grammar & punchuation.  Some examples:    "Portsmouth’s 6 retreats to cover the run of Holt and Dickinson lumbers to pay closer attention to Crofts’." - why the apostrophe after Crofts?    "By this point Jackson is spriting, De Laet’s run stutters misjudging the flight." - should that be sprinting?  The structure of that sentance is also wrong.  Firstly, you should consider the use of a conjunction rather than just the comma.  Secondly, the structure implies that it is the run that misjudges, not De Laet.  Although the reader will know what you mean, the errors make it more difficult to read.   As fot the subject, it was an original take on a game, looking at 1 minute.  If I were you I would also consider looking at writing articles for other teams - maybe a new opinion of a Premier League team, and an article to get people interested in lower league football (it is likely that if you do get into football journalism, that is where you would start, so you have to show them that you can do that and not just write about the big teams).
 12.
What ! Pilkington is worried about Paul Lambert''s drinking?  tsk?
What do you expect from a Glaswegian.   As for the rumour, that started in the Mirror a month or so ago.  I can''t find the original story, but this was one of the fanzine copies http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/11/22/liverpool-to-launch-surprise-5m-bid-for-norwich-city-winger/
 13. I agree that we were totally outclassed.  It will definitely be the games against Fulham, QPR, Bolton, etc that will determine whether we stay up, rather than teams like Spurs.   Also when you look at the game, they had 2 key players - Modric & Bale.  Bale not only scored and had a couple more chances, but was also involved in almost all of their attacks.  Just remember, teams bigger and better than Norwich have also had problems with him... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp0ZUdopxjY
 14. Yes, he said that he just "pulled up" during training yesterday, so I would guess hamstring.
 15. As it is the end of 2011, the journalists always look for a story relating to the past year.  I don''t have a problem with that, it keeps them in a job.    While I found their comments on Warnock ammusing "He has been allowed to bring in almost a whole new XI of players - some of whom who are on the kind of wages (Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Phillips chief among them) that would pay for half Norwich''s squad"  & "One question, though: If QPR do go down, how will he blame Carlos Tevez?"   I don''t think their summing up of Norwich is entirely fair "The football may not be pretty" - obviously they don''t watch the games, take the last couple for example, Holt''s & Surman''s goals are quite pretty.  I think people see that we have headed 11 goals (3 against Newcastle) and think that all Norwich do is the long ball.  They don''t realise that Lambert adjusts the style based upon the opponent.  In the case of Newcastle, he saw a weakness and exploited it.
 16.
We should sign him. Looks like a great attacker & kept a clean sheet.
No- they were already 1-0 down!
 17.
haha this is brilliant. journos trying to scratch a living and making some tosh to get by. love the ''to ignore his goal scoring record for the past 2 years would be churlish'' followed up next paragraph by ''he can''t cut the mustard at this level''. holt for england x
What do you think you are doing commenting on the orgininal article?  That has no place here, this is reserved for the same old people to have yet another online arguement/slagging match.
 18.
Totally agree with the proven bit, has done it with Scunny, Sheff Utd and Donny. Three different teams, different ethoses and different coaching methods.
I don''t agree with that.  He did well at Scunny (53 goals in 82 games), but I think you will find that at Sheffield he didn''t really hit it off (8 in 51), then at Donny it''s back up to 39 in 77.    At 5'' 9" he''s not exactly the big target man like Morison & Holt, he would be more comparible to Vaughan & Jackson.  The only times I have seen him play live were at Sheffield, this was after he had turned down Norwich at the last minute.  I was not impressed with him, and although he is likely to have improved since then, I don''t think he is a better option that Vaughan.
 19.

The media go mad over Sturridge (115.4 mins) saying how he should definitely be in the England squad, so why doesn''t the same apply to Holt (115.7 mins) - who has less service than Sturridge?
Maybe the media realise that there is more to being a striker than minutes per goal?
Are you implying that Holt doesn''t offer anything else?  I think that Holt offers something quite different to the other strikers (Defoe, Rooney & Sturridge) - although since the original post he has overtaken Defoe to be 3rd.   Another couple of stats are that he is also 2nd in the PL for % of chances converted (top English player) and 3rd English player in goals scored in the PL.   There is always the argument as to why a player should be included in the squad - form, prospects, experience, etc, but I think that on form there is an arguement for Holt.
 20. Before the game, Morison did post on Twitter that he was suffering from ''Manflu''. (This was before he deleted his Twitter account!)
 21. It was undisclosed - reports are from £400k - £750k
 22. http://www.imscouting.com/reports-generator3/?id=40&l=5304&p1=0&p2=500&p3=0&p4=20#rep   Holt is the 4th highest English player - behind Rooney, Defoe & Sturridge   The media go mad over Sturridge (115.4 mins) saying how he should definitely be in the England squad, so why doesn''t the same apply to Holt (115.7 mins) - who has less service than Sturridge?
 23. Luis Suarez   -  £22.8m Robin van Persie   -  £2.75m Grant Holt    -   £0.6m   Shows there are bargains out there if people do their homework!
 24.
http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/sunderland-specials/next-permanent-manager In the early betting our man is a bit of an outsider 25 to 40 /1
How come they have Roy Keane, Bruce Arena & Glenn Hoddle, but they don''t have Roeder.  Has he now officially retired from management - after his spells with England & Norwich?
 25.

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/sunderland-specials/next-permanent-manager In the early betting our man is a bit of an outsider 25 to 40 /1
ONLY 25 to 40/1...don''t they know who he is or how good he is????? I am insulted, bunch of spivs!
I think it is a reflection on how attractive the opportunity is to him:   Norwich are higher in the table. He has built his own team at Norwich. Full support of board and fans at Norwich. Greater security at Norwich - even if we were to get relegated this season, he will still be given time to get us back up.  At Sunderland, if they are in the relegation area around Feb/March, they will probably change the manager again.
