1. Judging by the recent refereeing decisions in the Cardiff game v Chelsea, the standard of officiating is no better in the premier league
2. Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are two incredible albums (works of art) and - as it's been pointed to above - Mark Hollis really couldn't be bothered with the sideshow of fame and ****, within the music industry...Rest in peace
3. You've got to trust Webber and Farke, they've always played the long game! Looking forward to seeing McLean get more game time. Also, agree with the above that Klose, Tettey and Leitner coming back will help...also hoping we'll see Grant Hanley play and return to form. Pretty much everyone in the squad has contributed at some point this season, otherwise they've gone on loan...
4. Bielsa subbed a Leeds midfielder off in the first half last night for giving away the ball. Tettey has done it numerous times....he needs to go off
5. Don''t think it would be a massive loss if we can bring in a capable replacement on loan. Not been overly consistent...can be the best centre back we have but switches off a lot.
6. Great offensively, suspect in his defensive responsibilities...Hanley''s stare after the winner says it all! Needs to up his game at right back. Seems to have been shoehorned into that position but needs some serious coaching judging by the last two league games.
7. I remember that Farke was talking up the state of the squad in the pre match build up to yesterday’s game. In his opinion, we’re not far off. He stated we needed a finisher upfront, but feels we are pretty much there centrally in midfield and defence. Fast forward to his post match analysis and there was the excuse of injuries (Hanley, Vrancic, Tettey, Maddison during the game). I find it worrying that he feels our squad is in a good shape. When you look at the bench - we had Watkins (hasn’t played at all recently), Raggett (one appearance at the end of the Bristol city away game?), Stiepermann (hasn’t played since Brentford at home during the Christmas period) as well as two players that have played a fair bit (Srebeny, Pinto). I look at this squad and see around a team of players that have played well in patches this season. The rest of the squad looks bereft of confidence / form and question marks are next to players who will be leaving permanently or going back to their loan clubs. I get the impression that Farke wants to have a settled squad but reality is we will see more upheaval over the summer. We don’t look like a club that has moved on from the fallout after relegation.
8. I think we miss Trybull a lot. He plays that halfback sort of position. He screens the defence but also provides some real assurance on the ball and quickly distributes to the real flair players. I''m hoping McLean is similar so we don''t suffer so much if one is injured.
9. Low risk signing with potential. Cheaper than league 1 or 2. Also, Webber has always said he doesn''t like operating in the january transfer window. More players are available in the summer, without paying way over the odds...
10. I seem to remember our fans criticising Farke for not utilising the squad in late October. We played Derby a few days after 120 minutes vs Arsenal in the cup. I''m in agreement with most that 6 changes was excessive but it''s not Farke''s fault that the offensive players bought in the summer either aren''t up to scratch or haven''t shown their form. He needed to mix it up a bit today to get some competition. This was something Lambert used to manage really well. I''m pretty happy with our defensive options atm - Pinto, Klose, Zimmermann, Hanley, Lewis all showing form. Husband and Stiepermann aren''t convincing. We''re not looking at all convincing with our (back up) options up front or in attacking midfield. Oliveira is patchy. Maddison and Pritchard are far better than our other options. This is where we need to be making better signings IMO, so we can rotate the squad and still win games!
11. At least use solid facts when making an argument Dean Coney''s Boots. Vrancic started when we beat Sheff Wed and drew with Barnsley. We are far more balanced with Tettey / Trybull in the side. I think it helps having a bit more height as well. Reed has been one of our better players recently but I worry seeing both him and Pritchard in the lineup. They looked like ball boys at Leeds!
12. No, I think he can see player confidence is low and he''s trying to keep positive. We''re under performing but I still think we''ve a squad that is inferior to at least 6 others sides. We''ve had a lot of injuries this season and a number of players that are new to the league. It''s frustrating. For sure. We''re not gonna become a great side without a bit of tough learning along the way...
13. I believe Webber when he said we wanted to sign Hanley earlier in the summer but only could when the price dropped. Raggett probably still won''t be ready for Championship football in january. Franke may head back to Germany in january or next summer. Not sure he''s gonna get another chance bar serious injury problems. That leaves Klose, Zimmerman and Hanley as the front runners. Martin is seen as cover for Pinto imo.
14. Prob be better to start with 11 players Hoola, don''t want to give the home team more of an advantage than we usually do
15. We are clearly missing our best player - Pritchard. I''m not saying him playing means we would definitely have won, but he had become our stand out player at the back end of last season. In terms of players who can add that little bit of magic...Hoolahan is perhaps past his best days, Murphy / Madders are young and subsequently more inconsistent, Vrancic is new to the league. We''re yet to see anything truly inspiring from Naismith, Watkins or Wildschut.
16. Probably because Rashford was an exceptional talent, a lot of the U23 players we have need developing
17. He torn his cruciate ligament in a game today https://www.zvw.de/inhalt.vfb-stuttgart-zimmermann-schwer-am-knie-verletzt.ddac1f65-1139-48fa-8ee3-7ab890187b02.html
18. Two centrebacks that hadn''t played any championship football was clearly a gamble. But I''m pretty sure a lot was known about MF, whereas DF knew what Zimmerman offered, having worked with him. Sometimes it takes time for new players to acclimatise to a new style / a different league. Sometimes they will never make the transition. I''m sure no one predicted Klose getting injured in pre season! I''m pleased with Hanley, not just before he''s done good things in this division previously. I think his leadership skills are greatly needed in our team atm. Hopefully he''ll be able to influence the other defenders around him in both defending well and positioning.
19. The squad seems lacking with any characters with leadership qualities. You usually look to the captain. Although a footballer with integrity, over time he''s never inspired his troops. Currently, we have a squad of youngsters and players from the German leagues. It''s not the sole reason for our inability to defend and eagerness to crumble so quickly but it would help in situations where we clearly need some resilience!
20. Paddy Davitt tweeted this yest - Paddy Davitt‏Verified account @paddyjdavitt 21h21 hours Paddy Davitt Retweeted John Wilson DF consistently saying happy with options top end. Think they would like to do something CB, if possible I think they must be confident of getting another defender in, bearing in mind Lewis is out until the new year. Toffolo is an unknown quantity in the championship. I get the feeling Farke sees Russ Martin as right back cover. The new centrebacks are pretty tall and strong in stature (altho need to time to acclimatize). That seems to be the type of player he wants in this league.
21. Full of potential...needs games like the Murphy''s and Maddison got. Also needs to find his best position. There''s no point him sitting on the bench or playing u23''s football if he can play at a good club in league one! It''s interesting that McGeehan was sold by Norwich to get games for Luton and he now has a chance for Barnsley in the Championship...
22.
Well based on our 4 league games so far our strongest XI must be the team that beat QPR, and why that wasn''t the team (ex Pinto) that played Villa is beyond me.
One reason was Nelson had an injury so couldn''t start
23. Trybull has been brought in as another deep-lying distributor. Stiepermann can play as a holding midfielder apparently. Godfrey has been used there in pre season and was good v Southampton in the cup last season. There''s also Adam Phillips as a future midfielder in that role. I''d say the possibilities look bleak for Tettey if he doesn''t play vs Charlton in the cup!
