1.
I have never placed a bet in my life and was wondering if somebody who knows a little more about it could explain something to me?

These are the odds for the front runners chances of winning the champioship:

    Charlton 6/1

    Watford 8/1

    West Brom 8/1

    Wolves 9/1

    Sheff Utd 9/1

    Southampton 10/1

    Leicester 11/1

    Crystal Palace 14/1

Now how i understand it is if i put £10 on Charlton to win the league at odds of 6/1 i will get £70 back if they indeed wn the league?

If i put a £10 bet on each of the above clubs an outlay of £80 i will be virtually guarenteed to win as i can''t see the winner coming from outside of this group. (if charlton won i''d be £10 down). Are there any rules to stop me doing this? i know the profit''s not exactly huge but it seems like a pretty safe way to bet?

No, theres no rules to stop you having a tenner on as many teams you like.

You just gotta hope that the biggest priced team that you select wins to maximize your profit.

    Good luck.

  2.
I see from Wikipedia he is South African! I''d never have gessed. Does he play for a youth team?
Yes he does, ours ! Also he came on for 1 substitute appearance last season.

Given his fantastic pace and his ability to score goals for fun, maybe he is another striker being played out of position on the wing.

He doesn''t seem a natural winger, but could develop into our next goalscoring sensation, fingers crossed.

He''s not good enough for a fellow Championship side but he''s good enough for us. Is this what they call prudence with ambition.
Lots of players aren''t good enough for certain teams and absolute revelations at others.  Kanu for example was no where near good enough for West Brom, has been simply awesome at Portsmouth.

Its not always as cut and dried as saying, not good enough for you means not good enough for us.  Different teams play different systems, have different training methods, have different social set ups, all important and all make a difference to the player.

Besides all that he has stated that he wants to fight for his place at West Brom, wasn''t content in only starting 20 games last season.  So if we do get him at least we are getting someone with a bit of ambition who sets himself high targets.  He is also left footed so could be a useful addition with regard to balancing the squad.
ok I''ll rephrase it for you. He''s $h!te
Then you''ll be pleased to know that he''s signed for Preston and I suppose could start against you on Saturday!

Meanwhile there''s real excitement at Lincoln because our new striker from Norway has just been given "international clearance".  We don''t know w

what he''s like but it''s the first time we''ve ever had international clearance for anything so that''s excitement enough...............

    lol Oldimpy,

I know what you mean. I used to support Southend in the old Third Division South, and we''d have given anything for one of our players to be given "International clearence"

  4. Grantys tactics for this season !

We dont need a defence. We''ve got a brilliant keeper (he''ll save us from any nasty opponents). Rated 9.

Ostemathingy- good on the overlap/attacking but defencively suspect Rated 6.

    Donkerty- A liability ! Rated a generous 3.

Shacks- Potential to be a good player, (We''ve been saying he will be a good player for about 4/5 years now) Rated 6.5.

Drury- He''s steadily gone downhill the last 2/3 seasons Rated 6.

Dion- The only Defender worth his wages, a hero. But will his legs/back stand up to a full season, and he''d rather be in his natural positon of striker. Rated a heroic 8

But the Judge will protect us wont he? Yes he will if he can stay on the pitch long enough. I can see him being sent off/injured more often than not. (His record at Hearts, 22 yellows, 2 reds in 50 starts) In the 2 knockabouts pre-season he managed to commit some iffy challenges against Kings Lynn before getting sorted out in revenge and had to come off by half-time. Same happened against Vitesse Arnhem. He lasted 50 odd minutes of that game but had to come off because someone gave him a deadleg. Rated (if he can stay out of trouble) 8.

Sorry if that seems pessamistic, but the defence we''ve got at the moment just aint good enough, and the only cover we have are the youngsters gawd helpus.

Southend when i was ten. Norwich when i was fifteen.

    I''m 60 now.

Southend when I was 10.  Norwich when I was 14.

    I''m 51 now
Blimey thats spooky. Whereabouts in Essex did you live ?

Canvey Isand for me until i was 15 and saw the light. lol.

When we moved to Norfolk i started watching City, (1962). There was Kennon in goal, Barry Butler & Ron Ashman centre halfs. Tommy Bryceland in midfield, Billy Punton on the Wing. (I dont know if it was just me but i seem to remember that every time he touched the ball, he''d fall on his ''arris.lol.)

Terry Allcock, Jimmy Hill, Ah the memories.

Next season we signed Kevin Keelan and Ron Davies (a real old fashioned center forward and prolific goalscorer) (Alan Shearer and Dean Ashton are modern day examples
Later heros were Kenny Foggo Martin Peters Micky Channon Ah the memories

  6. How many minutes do you think Brellier will last before collecting his first yellow/red card this season.

His record at Hearts was 22 yellows and 2 reds from just 50 starts over the course of two seasons.

He''ll probably miss as many games as Safri through suspensions/retaliation injuries

Hope i''m wrong, but we''ll see

  7. So far in the pre-season friendlies the defence has''nt been too bad but, the opposition have been low grade to say the least. If City think they have a good enough defence i fear it''s gonna be exposed for what it is aganist a decent team on Tuesday night.

Maybe then they''ll realise we need better defenders or we will be in trouble this year again.

  8. Most of it will go to the same place as other transfer income and Premier payments. Supposedly getting into the Premiership is worth about 50 million. wheres that gone ?

City have been playing to packed houses for the last 4 years or so.

The fans have been brilliant home and away. They dont deserve to be treated with such contempt.

WHERE ARE YOU BOARD ? LETS BE HAVIN YOU.
