1.
Great servant and I agree that it''s nice to see him doing so well.Don''t want him back here as manager though as we''ve had enough of Delia''s ''old boys'' to last a lifetime. .
Are you restricting that comment to players who have served whilst Delia has been in charge - or do you include any former player such as David Stringer for instance? And give me Holt-signing-Gunn over loan-maniac Roeder any day. Lambert could just do a Ferguson - and be here years hence.
 2.

I thought Lappin did ok - put himself about and didn''t shy from tackles - it was shaping up to be a good contest between Lapps and barton. He probably lacked a bit of quality at times if truth be told, but he wasn''t the only one. Certainly not our worst performer today.
Cheers for that.Honestly didn''t think he would get a game this season.
You were not alone - but given that he impressed the manager sufficiently on joining the club to play more games than anyone else in the climb out of League 1, there always had to be a chance. He works well with Drury and he is probably an inexpensive squad player (He joined us on a high wage I think because his transfer fee was low - less than £100k I think - but Gunn gave him a new contract which would have been on much lower wages). He enjoys his game too. That said, I''d love to know what Glenn "Lappin knows his future lies elsewhere" Roeder makes of our position now.
 3. Has there ever been a worse choice for Norwich City Captain? Roeder, what were you thiniking of? (Actually I think I know).
 4.

It was an absolute disgrace that he won our Player Of The Year that year, shameful decision by the fans. Clingan was miles better.
I didn''t vote for Lee Croft and I was a fan of Sammy Clingan but it is a total myth that he was that much better.   If people were to watch back that entire season now they would realise that Sammy Clingans good games were vastly outweighed by his average and below average games.   Croft has become too harshly criticised and Clingan has become very overrated.
How often is it said we all see different games? Like all players, Clingan could be "average" but mostly his quality shone through in a very average side - and I never saw him have a bad game. I saw Croft have several. Roeder''s insistence on playing Croft on the right also meant that David Bell was kept on the opposite flank, which apparently was not his preferred position. (Roeder of course would not allow Lappin into the side). As for lookalikes - Croft always reminded me of that famous Belgian - Tin Tin.
 5. I think he''s quality. Did well in short space of time. If he came back he would make and score goals for us. I think he would be as influential as Wes has been.
 6. Now the season is over, just like to echo all those Canary Callers (yes, really!) who laud the Radio Norfolk commentary team. Well done the pair of you. It''s not just that, as good BBC men, they are so unbiased in their impartial commentary :), or or just that we''ve been on a winning streak for the past two seasons. (By comparison I find the utterings of Alan Green on 5 Live a big turn off). They give good coverage, rarely miss or fail to explain an incident on the pitch - and it''s a joy to listen to even if, living in Hertfordshire I sometimes have to go into the corner of the smallest room to get reception.. More next season please BBC.
 7. Lansbury is a good player and it would be great to have him back next season. If it doesn''t happen though, not the end of the world IMO. Pacheco however I think will one day be a great player - to have him back, even for half the season, would be fantastic for us.
 8.
I''d like a statue of Roeder holding his loan contacts book in one hand and a telephone in the other hand to remind me of the bad times and to remind people not to make the same mistakes in the future. Also if we lost we could throw eggs at it.
Brilliant! Sign enough loanees and you''re bound to get some right (Lita, Evans & Martin Taylor) - but he signed more than enough. Couldn''t manage even a willing player like Lappin - and regardless of Lappin''s ability, we were desperately short of committed players under Roeder - the "wonderful" Fotheringham aside of course ;).
 9.
Now Rider and Babes, do you honestly think that McNally was serious about the statue?   I think he was just getting across how much we are all indebted to their financial and emotional commitment to our club.   Some will never see it though. But where are all those folk you lot hankered after for so long.   Why are bigbolloxmandericwednesday still floundering in League One?   I hope football comes to it''s senses before we find out how life would be without the cook and her old man.
Well said Nutty. I recall certain posters demanding "Cook Out!" and asking for the likes of Ince or Ferguson as manager...That said, I''m sure everyone would like to see a bit of new investment - and maybe something will come in now we are back at the top flight.
 10. Agree your comments Paulo. Ward made a good clearance in the second half (with his head) from a rare good ball into the area from Hodson but he was guilty of just hoofing clearances upfield especially in the first half and which uually led to us just losing possession. (Couldn''t help thinking what might have been if we had signed MartinTaylor three seasons ago). Whitbread had a very good game I thought though we do miss Barnett. Fox didn''t do much wrong apart from their equaliser. In the second half we played it on the ground much more, especially when McNamee came on - and passing and possesssion was much improved. Surman showed some delightful touches with the ball - but they amounted to nothing in terms of creating chances. We had no width in the first half - except for the hard working Martin. McNamee is not my favourite player but he certainly caused problems for Watford last night.
 11.

It''s true I don''t know for sure, although I seem to remember statements from the club at the time about releasing the more expensive players, but I can''t be arsed to look. I just think you''re unrealistic in your expectations of players who, after all, are doing a job. They''re not Norwich fans when they arrive at the club (with the possible exception of Gill, and it''s not worked out brilliantly for him), so why would they plead to stay in a job with worse prospects and less money? Do you think less of any new player because they''ve left their previous club behind?
I''ve no problem with players leaving a club to better themselves, but I do have a problem with players jumping ship after leading us to relegation and then expecting to return in better times. As I said before that shows no loyalty and thus they will probably jump ship again as soon as there is another downturn in our fortunes. There are players that will stick with a club through good and bad times, certainly longer than one season, and those are the ones we should be looking for if we want stability. The best way to achieve this is to have an excellent youth policy while also ideally cherry-picking players from clubs in neighbouring counties IMO.
Well I''m with Nuff on this one. Clingan didn''t lead us to relegation though he was part of that team and for me he was one of the few players of quality. Relegation IMO was the work of G Roeder - the complete opposite of Paul Lambert in putting a working team together. The club needed to offload players - David Bell was another who got stick for "jumping ship". I don''t recall the club trying too hard to keep either. Clingan was a very good player in a pretty poor team - I expect he would be excellent in the current team under the current manager. But the facts are: he would add nothing that we do not already have and we already have sufficient midfielders. So whilst I would be happy for him to play again for City (unlike Fotheringham or Croft) - there would be absolutely no point right now.
 12. Fox caught my eye in the pre-season at Lincoln - not much else in that match did (apart from Ward - but for the wrong reasons). Was disappointed that Fox seemed to have been forgotten after the season got underway. I think he''s been excellent since becoming a first choice in the team. Doug Livermore, Ian Crook, Damien Francis - all different players but all midfielders who could pass the ball. Fox appears to have the steel as well as the finesse - plus a very decent powershot. (And did we really once have a midfielder called Mark Fotheringham as captain ..?).
 13. That would work. How about: An’ we think its going to be a long, long time Till the scum come round to Carrow Road to find The Canaries playing one striker alone Oh no no no - we’ve a rocket man Rocket man – and he is Aaron Wilbraham (- the song might be more suited to Jackson when he finds his shooting boots again)
 14. John Ruddy - 7 improving all the time Declan Rudd Leon Barnett - 8.5 (Doc RIP) Elliott Ward - 7.5 when on form is very good but.. Michael Nelson 7. - has been very effective Zak Whitbread - 8. - great future subject to injuries Jens Berthel Askou Adam Drury - 8.5. Quality still there Steven Smith - Dunno Russell Martin - 8.5. Captaincy potential David Fox - 8. Like him more with each game. One to watch IMO. Andrew Crofts - 7.5. Faded a bit after a great start Korey Smith - 7.5. still young but good Matt Gill - 7. Useful but lacks games Owain Tudur-Jones - 6.5. Still think he could make it, though probably won''t if we need to trim the wage bill Simon Lappin - 8. Roeder never convinced him his future was elsewhere - nor me. Anthony McNamee - 7. Effective in short bursts Henri Lansbury - ? (7.5) Wes Hoolahan - 9.5. Class apart. Andrew Surman - 8. Looks the part. Grant Holt - 9. Does a lot more than just score goals Chris Martin - 8. A goal would help him more than it would Lappin Simeon Jackson - 7.5. Not convinced his pace is as good as some make out. Aaron Wilbraham - 7. I saw some calm, quality touches v Cardiff. Unproven as yet Oli Johnson - Who Knows? Look at the present squad - and there''s not a Mark Fotheringham amongst ''em.
 15.
david fox was outstanding today: picked his passes superbly, chased the cardiff midfiled constantly, was back defending when he needed to be and looked alot more energetic than lansbury or crofts. i know lambert likes to change things about alot, but i think with fox in the holding midfield role week in, week out our midfield will always have a great shape to it. what are everybody elses views on david fox?
Totally agree. Astonished some posters have scored him lower than Lansbury & Crofts - both of whom did alright but were not as effective as Fox against Cardiff. I watched him for the first time in the pre-season friendly v Lincoln and thought he looked really good - I wrongly assumed then he would be the man to start at the base. On Saturday he was spraying passes across the field with great accuracy - reminded me of a certain Doug Livermore from way back. His style may more closely resemble Damien Francis - an effective midfielder we have never replaced. Fox is a great team player and if he continues to improve like this, he could have a massive future with us.
 16.
He broke my heart when I was a youngster on my first ever visit to Wembley, but it''s a sad lose at only 64 years of age. RIP
Very sad to hear. Was at that Final too and right behind the goal. That is the only thing I do remember about it though. Back then, he was the player that immediately came to mind whenever anyone mentioned Burnley. I believe he was respected by players and fans alike.
 17.
Lappin to barcelona
I can believe that. Didn''t Roeder always say Lappin knew his future lay elsewhere than Norwich?
 18. I think this Mr B''s point was simply that Holt went down too easily. I certainly heard comments to that effect after the game and other posters on here have a little sympathy with that view - see Gingerpele''s thread : "Does Holt ''cheat'' to much ". Though it looks a bit like that on the replay, when you''re about to sprint for goal - and Holt was all set to charge the Riverend - any kind of impeding can cause you to fall. The defender was stupid for even trying it on. That said, I''d have preferred to have beaten them 3-1 or even 2-1 with 11 men still on the pitch. We were clearly the better side. As it was we got four superbly taken goals.
 19.
I was in the Spillane > Martin camp not so long ago. I thought Spillane was easily the more capable full back. But all credit to Martin; he''s been superb so far this season. Easily the match of Drury on the other flank. Long may it continue.
Martin for captain!
 20.

This is just brilliant.  I''ve despised Liverpool for 30 years of watching football for one reason or another and to see them in this position is fantastic. For the first time in my lifetime I can ,with certainty, finally be able to say that Liverpool are genuinely a sh!te team!!! brilliant.
I remember Liverpool being in the second division of the Football League and its the fans you have to feel sorry for. Its sad really as there is not a lot going for Merseyside except their humour and the football clubs. The days of cotton and slaves that brought prosperity are long gone. They should never have knocked down the terraced houses and built the vast Council House Estates.
They had to build vast council estates to accommodate the huge increase in population caused by fathers & sons shagging their daughters & sisters respectively.
Says the Norwich City fan! They actually built large council estates after Liverpool was extensively bombed by the Luftwaffe, being a pivotal port and manufacturing industry and Britain''s then second largest city.  Fast forward forty years and the Tories achieved what the Luftwaffe couldn''t by ripping the heart out of the manufacturing industry, causing widespread unemployment and the associated rises in crime and social disadvantage that being raped by Thatcher''s rabid free market economic "philosophy" brought to many northern towns.
That Mr Chops, must rate by a mile as your worst and ill-founded post ever (I base that simply on your usually thoughtful and often amusing comments). Without wishing to appear as an apologist for Thatcher, Liverpool''s decline began long before Thatcher - and arguably before WW2. And whilst it did indeed get bombed, so did many other UK cities and large areas of terraced housing got flattened to make way for new housing and new inner-city roads post war. And just to be contentious, Liverpool are my favourite Prem side even if Liverpool will never be my favourite city. (but well done Blackpool!).
 21.
Thought he was awesome yesterday. Not only was he great going forward, but his defensive tackling, covering for Smith on his full debut, was fantastic. Surman is going to struggle to get back in when fit if The King of Spain carries on playing like this.
Must have been good because even Mr Lakey marked him a 7 in the EDP. (Lappin must have had more threads started about him than any othe player!)
 22. Suppose he could always take a leaf out of Roeder''s book and tell the whole world that a player like Lappin  "knows his future is elsewhere because we have have enough left backs in the squad" or  come up with something really nasty to say about Neil Adams.Talking to the media may be part of Lambert''s job but being good at it is neither here nor there if he gets the other bit right.
 23. I thought he done excellent. (Can''t argue with 3rd place - he can say what he likes provided he keeps the players motivated - and he seems to be doing that perfectly well. Not exactly telling porkies is he?).
 24.
. I thought we defended very well for the most part yesterday with one of their goals being scored via a lucky deflection and the other from an unstoppable free kick, if Hucks was in this team I think we''d get promoted just like we did six years ago.
Don''t disagree with those comments either kdcfc. Certainly can''t blame the defence (or Ruddy) for failing to stop that free kick but it was conceded right on the box. If the Doc had conceded that he would have got flack wouldn''t he? I''d rather the captain was in central defence than up front or at least see someone with a bit more authority there. I''m not totally convinced by Ward as a class defender (though he did perform some nice deft touches under pressure yesterday) or that there''s a potential captain in Barnett. I am however convinced that Watford will do well this season so long as Taylor stays fit - he was the main man for our opening defeat btw. Malky, of all people, knows the importance of someone like that.
 25. "Lambert is King":"Blimey, best defence we have had in years and now they are coming in for flack". I agree its the best we''ve had for sometime and my comments are hardly "flack". Doesn''t alter my view though  that we could do with someone like Martin Taylor (great player) to assume control. Always good and always consistent when he played for us. "It seems to be everyones fault except Holts as to why Holt is not scoring." Not at all - Holt is struggling IMO and still spends too much effort in giving some physical to the opposition rather than winning the ball. But Holt can hardly be blamed for goals conceded can he?
