  1. One hell of a gap between league 1 and championship. He was a decent player in his time and i am not surprised that he is doing well in league 1 even at his age, but no good for us now
  2. My wife is from Carlisle and i often took in a game when we used to visit her parents. Alas they passed away a few years ago so we no longer go up there very often. I recall watching them beat Farnborough Town in the Conference 7 nil and also a game against Torquay who had Neveille Southall in goal for them about 4 stone heavier than in his prime and he got sent off
  3. He has played very little football since he was on loan to us. Wrong side of 30 and in his last season of his owls contract, someone will pick up a half decent player for free soon and he will have to accept much reduced wages. If we do not go up then we could do a lot worse having him as a squad player
  4. When he left us to go to Villa it was a crossroads for him and our club. Had he stayed i am sure we would have kicked on . His career has gone back wards and though we have had 2 further seasons in the Pl which is no mean fete we never looked like staying there and i think the same could be said next season if we managed to go up
  5. He has done a pretty decent job but lets not get too carried away. If we go up then he will have done a very good job indeed 2 PL seasons out of 4, if not then 3 championship seasons in 4 and a PL season the worst that we have ever had would be an ok performance but not much more
  6. A decision for the end of the season imo.If we go up he is not good enough or fit enough to play on a regular basis. If we stay in the championship then he can still be a good squad player for another couple of seasons
  7. Bretford look the best team in the league for me, how the top 6 perform against each other will in the main decide who is top 2 and who is play offs. We are 15 points ahead of Middlesbrough in 7th so we would have to have a nightmare not to get into the top 6. There is little to pick between us and Swansea when we are both at our best, at the moment we are not at our best which is why we have only taken 2 points from 9. Any team who wants automatic cannot afford too may wobbles, we had one at the start of the season in the first 4 games and we are having one now, snap out of it quickly is the only answer or play offs it will be
  8. Big disappointment for me i really thought he may be one to kick on. He has had his chances and may yet get more
  9. When fit for me he is first choice at the moment
  10. cream rises to the top i think they are the best team in the league by a mile
  11. Short term Pukki is probably the best of a pretty ordinary set of strikers by championship standards. He is not what he was. and i no longer think he is a first choice striker for a club wanting automatic promotion .Hugill has potential to challenge him for the starting berth but gets injured at times when otherwise he may be getting the nod. For me there should be younger better strikers at the club than Pukki and i would see him making valuable contributions filling in and coming off the bench like Billy Sharpe has
  12. I never really rated him even when he was playing. I do not think he would add anything much to the direction of travel and it is all academic as there are clearly issues behind the scene which Farke does not like
  13. Brentford were very unfortunate not to go up last season For me they look the more complete squad , they have gambled and bought well with Tony who is banging them in. They are playing sides off the park and scoring lots of goals, they look to have few weaknesses at this level, but 2 or 3 key injuries could change everything
  14. Disappointing though a couple recent performances and results had been, keeping our feet on the ground, most supporters in my opinion would have jumped for joy if we were told we would be top at this stage of the season. We had come off a terrible second half of the PL season and no one knew how many of our better players we would lose, what our injuries would be like and how many of the more established players at the club would perform at championship level again. To be in this position we must have been doing something right albeit there are also some alarm bells. Firstly the upside. Our defense has been outstanding in particular the two main CBs. We have kept most of our better players despite speculation and got good money for the ones that have left. Of the new arrivals Sorenson playing out of position has made a very positive impact and Skipp albeit only on loan has been outstanding. Hugill when he gets a chance and when he is not injured has started to show signs of being a good striking option at this level. We have by and large shown very great determination and resilience grinding out results, not pretty but effective for the most part. Now the downside going forward this season and next regardless of which Division we are in. I may get a bit of flack here but despite the positives outlined above i do not think we are as good a squad as the last championship one and we have many areas of concern going forward. We have not really played anyone off the park yet and most wins have been by the odd goal. Of our upsides Gibson and Skipp have been 2 of our better players. If we go up Gibson will sign and possibly Skipp may be allowed another season on loan if not he will be a big hole to fill. If we do not go up we probably will struggle to afford a package for Gibson and Skipp will want to be tested at a higher level. Regardless of which division we are in i am very concerned about a lot of our established players. Pukki is still pretty decent but age and confidence have caught him up a bit and he is nowhere near the player of the last championship season and first half of the PL season, we need to plan for a replacement. Steipermann looks finished and ineffective and Vrancic has also seen better days and is not the player of 2 seasons ago. Tetty is finished but at his age that is no surprise. Zimmermann has never really recovered from his injury and neither has his performances, can he bounce back only time will tell. Hernandez to a lesser extent falls into the same category for me, yes he needs to regain fitness and have game time, but when he has played he has looked way off what he was. Platecha has speed and potential but at the moment he is a disappointment, he needs to up his game and output considerably to be even a starter at championship level. Through a whole series of different reasons including injury the youngsters that i had hoped would kick on this season have not yet done so ie Idah, Martin and Mumba. If we go up i do not think they will be in next seasons plans, though loan moves may well be the way forward, if we stay in the championship they will all need to kick on next season if they have a future. Dowell for me has made little impact though injury has eaten into his season So in summary very pleased to be where we are with what we have, i think it is between the top 3 for the 2 automatics and in the short term the other 2 look like better bets though that can change. If it comes to the play offs we all know it is a lottery but we will be difficult to beat and have as good a chance as anyone. Regardless of the Division a significant squad rebuild will be needed as in addition to the players detailed above Cantwell, Buendia and Aaronns will be looking for moves for certain if we do not go up and some even if we do
  15. Points and league position way beyond my pre season expectations. defensive record way beyond my expectations. In attack we are not what we were 2 seasons ago but we cannot have everything. Pukki still good but slightly past his best IMO as with Vrancic. Steipermann now a busted flush. Skipp outstanding so too Sorenson. buendia a class act at this level great to still see him at the club, same comments for Cantwell. Hugill showing signs of being a got plan B option getting unfortunate injuries at the wrong time. Hernandez mixture of injuries and poor form when he has played, Platecha shows promise but more of an impact player at the moment, not sure he will get much game time if we go up. All this and we have sold two good players for good money
  16. I agree with the comments of others 1] a striker. Pukki is good but possibly the years are catching up a tad. Huggill looks a good option could he be another Holt possibly but if we get to the top flight we need at least 3 strikers 2] CB Zimmermann is way off being what he was for whatever reason and though Hanley and Gibson are great together if we get to the top flight then we need 3 or 4 decent CB given abstractions for injury, suspensions etc 3] Possibly 2 in Midfield. Skipp is doing a wonderful job will Spurs want him back or give him another season with us, who knows but he will cost a lot to replace. Steipermann has continued his slide unfortunately and i doubt we would want to retain him even if we were in the championship, way out of his depth in the top flight. Tettey he has never let us down but if he were a car he would be in the classic category now, legs can only go for so long especially in the all action position he plays
  17. He is fit well motivated and playing some wonderful football. Very often at this level he is almost unplayable. It is important that do our utmost to tie him down to a longer term contract, he is already worth a lot of dosh, how annoying if he walked away for next to nothing
  18. What a shame we cannot go and watch in person as this squad is getting better and better certainly by championship standards. For quite a few games due to the injury list we ground out results which showed great character but now we have such depth, flair and options all that is missing is giving someone a good hiding. We have done well in these strange times to hang on to Aaronns, Buendia and Cantwell, the latter is now really playing some fantastic football and all players are both energetic, comfortable on the ball and well motivated. I am really pleased that Hugill in his rare stints is starting to show that he is very good at this level and provides that traditional big center forward option that we have not had since Holt left, iti s important both in defense and attack. Many reasons to be both hopeful and optimistic though still plenty of games yet to go. That said i would be really disappointed if we let this position slip and did not go up. Gibson and Hanley look a great combination at the back just as well as Zimmermann has looked more vulnerable when he has played, maybe he has not fully recovered from his injury problems. If we went up i wonder if Spurs would let Skipp have another season with us on loan, he works so hard in midfield doing the basic stuff and is a big reason why we have let in a lot fewer goals. I see no way that Spurs would sell, he is a real emerging talent, but another loan at a higher level could help all parties. I actually thought the first half of the season would be slow for us and then the squad would kick on strongly in the second half of the season, but credit to all for doing so well.
  19. In many ways keeping elite sport going is a morale boos for much of the population. That said scenes like this, well publicized breaches by a minority of players, trips abroad by certain clubs etc may bring pressure to stop the season in due course
  20. A lot of people forget that he was half of a management duo with Culverhouse. When that team split under controversial circumstances, Lambert who has qualities lost half of his magic and has never managed to replace the work that Culverhouse did, The latter has shown albeit at a lower level that he can do the business and who is to say that he may not get the chance of being a no 1 higher up the food chain in due course, quite possibly here
  21. I totally agree. Quintilla played until he got injured. Sorenson, playing out of position has done exceptionally well and looks a good player and adds physicality to the the back 4. In addition our really good run has coincided with Sorensons spell so i see no way he will make way unless injuries dictate he can be better used at CB or midfield
  22. Max is a very good player and i hope he stays, i feel his loss would not be terminal to promotion provided we got in a competent championship replacement. the loss of Emi is an entirely different prospect, he is the heartbeat of our team with his goals, vision and talent his loss would be terminal to promotion prospects. Steipermann had a torrid time in the PL but had a decent championship CV, this season without scapegoating him he has looked well short of his previous championship performances and looks more like a league 1 lump now. It is difficult to say why that should be is it that in our promotion season he over achieved or the PL experience has trashed his confidence either way i do not think we would miss him with many others ahead of him now
  23. There can be no doubt whatsoever that he deserves to be playing at a higher level. If Farke can keep him focused then, like Villa did with Grealish every effort should be made to try and keep him at the club for the second half of this season and for the next should we go up. Without him i suspect we will not go up despite the good start and without him there would be little chance of staying up should he be promoted. We do need to recognize that a player of his talent will only stay at a club like Norwich for a limited period of time. The ideal would be to help us get up and then stay up and his performances would then secure both player and club a substantial pay day
  24. There were times against a very good Barnsley side when this man was virtually unplayable underlying his potential at a higher level. That said part of his learning curve and he is still a very young man is to improve some of his decision making and goal scoring threat, i am sure this will come with more game time, confidence and experience. If by any chance we do go up, the likes of him and Buendea are crucial to any hope whatsoever of making it another 1 season stay
  25. Very harsh he has been a big plus for us this season playing out of position, in a new team, new league and new country
