  1. Realistically he is finished here. He is fortunate that there are no fans in the ground as if he got some game time in the next few weeks he would be given a hard time and realized he has turned from local hero to village idiot. I am sure he has enough talent to secure a move how much we get for him is difficult to say at the moment £15m upwards, no transfer and little game time in the championship and the bottom will fallout of his value. It is now in his and Norwich's interests to move him on as quickly as possible for as much as possible. We do not want a bad smell of juvenile petulance infecting the younger players at the club, role model NOT he should take a look at Godfrey and Aarons as models as to how to conduct yourself
  2. I agree it is low on the list, we have 3 and at the moment only play one, though that could change. The performance of players from the Scottish league and doing well in England over the last 20 years has not been good, with some noteworthy exceptions like Van ****
  3. I agree but for every good game he has at least a poor one. watching him you often can sense pretty early on which it will be. I like the look of Martin and he will probably be given his chance soon. Onel for me is a good squad player that i would prefer not to lose, but probably has more impact coming on second half when the opposition begin to tire. That said everyone has his price, i do not know what interest there is in him and what money is being talked about
  4. Now i am not one that is advocating change at the top, leastways not this side of Christmas anyway. It was Webber not so very long ago that went public with probably wanting a fresh challenge when his contract expires. I am not sure when this is but i guess it may be on or around the end of this season. Since he made those comments a lot has changed after our worst ever top flight performance, relegation, COVID has hit the world and though very early days a pretty indifferent start to this season. Given his influence at the club he hires and fires the manager and staff and has the major say in relation to transfers, his position at the club cannot be more important and as such his thoughts as to his future are vital to our longer term planning. I may be wrong but i sense this season may be similar to the one before the promotion one, with a churn of players and new ones and youth needing to bed down and get that psychological hangover of such a terrible second half the the PL season out of the collective system. How good is he ? he has proved to be a shrewd negotiator at transfer sales and has made many good value signings and allowed Farke to deploy the strategy of developing youth which to date has worked very well. It should be remembered though that others need to take the credit for bringing the likes of Madison, Godfrey , Lewis and Aarons to the club. There is no doubt in these troubled times that the club finances are in a far better place. Set against that though that the transfer strategy last season in a results business was an absolute shambles. With regard to that i do not gripe that we did not spend millions that we probably did not have on signing new players but we did waste millions on loan fees, high wages and agents fees for at least 3 players last season that contributed little or nothing. I personally would be happy for him to stay, but he is not a 10/10, we do need to know if he is going to remain at the club beyond this season. The worst possible thing is if he were to go at the end of this season but get rid of and select another manager and staff and the same goes with player ins and outs. If he does go then what, do the Board do ? look to replace with a like for like set up or change the model again, it is one that most British managers would not want to work within. What also troubles me if he does go in the next year is our Boards ability to select competent replacements, for me they have proved to be at best inconsistent, For every Farke and Lambert and to a lesser extent Neil there has been a Roeder, Hamilton and Gunn, so i am very much in the camp of careful what we wish for
  5. I totally agree he should be starting but i would also play Pukki behind him i think he would thrive on the knockdowns and confusion that the physical presence Huggill will create in the opposition box
  6. Well it is going to be a long season and we are already getting rid of quite a few. A decent player who on his day can be very effective. I would like to keep him he often makes things happen more often when he comes on as a sub, he is a mixed bag but particularly if we play Hugill more he could be one who gives him some service
  7. You make you own luck, we missed a penalty in the strangest of circumstances and gave away a sloppy free kick from which they scored a good goal. As for the pitch it is our pitch so the condition is down to us.
  8. Careful what you wish for, Farke has many attributes, he has a different challenge on his hands now a loss of confidence in a number of his championship tried and test group who look shadows of what they were. This is not Farkes fault it is the result of a squad getting a real bashing during the second half of last season, many of them still look hungover and shell shocked, no one having shots or taking responsibility. The loss of the younger players for big money has not contributed to the way we are playing, we are not making chances or scoring goals when we used to. Other players in the squad need to be given a go with the hope that those who have lost confidence and belief may be able to get it back. Continued poor displays and results alas is only going to make the situation worse. We need some tried and tested championship players who are leaders and confident individuals, not too late to get a couple
  9. Buendia is still our match winner if we can keep him. This was his first game of the season and there were a lot worse than him on show, he clearly is frustrated at the moment on and off the pitch. On the pitch it must be hard seeing most of your attacking colleagues mentally heads down picking the wrong options so often. Confidence is a fragile thing when it is lost and can take a lot of character to get back, some never do
  10. It pains me to say it but for the most part all our attacking players from our championship season look shadows of themselves. On paper they should be doing well at this level but that second half of the Premiership season has knocked the stuffing out of so many of them Pukki, Steipermann and hernandez the main problems at the moment. None of them are playing with any confidence or belief, no one having shots I agree this game cried out for Hugill shortly after half time. It maybe is the time to give all 3 a rest . Disappointing and frustrating but there you go, so much of sport is mental strength not out and out talent
  11. Probably not as bad as if i were sat there watching it at the ground. Derby are in poor form and the lack of a win let alone a loss would be a concern. The player comings and goings will have disrupted our preparations plus the continued uncertainty as to who will be leaving, but it does give others opportunities and there are many in the current squad who have a point to prove to either make their mark or prove doubters wrong, its up to them to take their chances even with all the distractions. Once we have a settled squad that get used to playing with each other i think results will pick up, too early to say where we may or may not be at the end of the season. Bournmouth are showing that you can sell expensive players and still do well
  12. Cantwell is a pretty decent player and nice that he is home grown. I have a feeling he is/will be more effective in a PL side than in the hustle and bustle of the championship and for that reason i feel he is expendable in terms of getting a good fee for him now, if he were to stay his star may be a bit dimmer if he does not have a significant impact in the championship and i doubt he will. I forgive him his short term indiscretions and throwing his toys out of his pram, he is still pretty young and in future seasons he may well look back on his behavior and cringe . Sell now while memories of his good performances are still fresh, he could turn out to be another flash in the pan
  13. Tettey for me has been a great club servant , he cost peanuts and always had his limitations. The previous time we were in the PL he was often exposed and regarded as not good enough for the top flight and struggled with his fitness to play a couple of games a week. Why three seasons later when he was into his 30s did anyone think the outcome would be any different and the obvious weakness not plugged. 10/10for effort , 10/10 for character and loyalty, 5/10 for general ability in my opinion. Not so much a problem if he is a back up squad player but if he is the first choice in that position then you really know what is going to happen

  15. Short term some will regret the sale of these young stars and the probable sale of others. It is probable but not certain that it will significantly make it more difficult to get promoted this season, we need to be pragmatic about events and look to the longer term and i do not really subscribe to long term plans as like trying to run the country they are often knocked of course by events. The fact is we got relegated by a country mile but within that disappointing season our 5 young stars did enough to raise their profile to make them sought after by bigger and richer clubs and who can blame the players for wanting to take the certainty of those lucrative offers as opposed to the uncertainty of another season of championship when promotion may of may not have happened and individuals could have been injured before securing those life changing contracts. Add to that the Medical and Financial crisis that is sweeping the world and their sale has secured the long term future of our club a position that many many supporters of football league clubs and clubs around the world would dearly love to be in. We have not seen the economic fallout of this crisis yet and in footballing terms it could be a nightmare and when things start to settle and in the absence of a rich benefactor we will be in a very good position to move forwards and hopefully upwards
  16. Given our relegation and the amount of goals that we have shipped in the last two seasons and the start of this i find it quite ironic that the most sought after players by bigger clubs are 3 of our back 4 for most of this period. , particularly when they have had such a fantastic goal keeper behind them. This raises a number of questions, that are all just about opinions a] Are these players as good as we and other clubs think b] If they are as good as we and others think was our defensive coaching poor? c] Have our general team tactics been such that the back 4 have been left too exposed d] have we been short of a decent defensive midfielder I suspect it has been a mixture of b to d and that these players will go on to have very good careers elsewhere, whilst clearly due to their age still being on a learning curve. If it has been b to d then if nothing changes then we will continue to let in in my opinion an unacceptable amount of goals which in turn puts so much pressure on the forward line to score the volume of goals to win points
  17. He did but Norwich are and always have been a selling club, no disgrace in that. He did provide the most sustained period in the top flight in our history mind. I do recall Fox and Sutton going, alas nearly 30 years ago and nothing has changed there are always bigger fish that want your successful managers and players, the trick is replacing them and doing it again
  18. Some time ago it was speculated that Godfrey was the most expensive in terms of club valuation of out young crop of stars and i would not argue against that. If Everton have bid £25m then that is very promising as it is an opening bid i suspect in todays slightly reduced transfer market £30m plus add on would not be far from the mark. The 10% sell on could be a life saving windfall for York City
  19. My comments here are in relation to players we buy now ie we should sign players that are good in the championship now to assist us to get up rather trying to second guess whether the player would be any good in the top flight. What you do when you get into the top flight is another debate. Sheffield Utd got promoted with a team by and large well drilled Championship and League 1 journey men, it surprised many how well they did when they went up, just like it surprised many how well Holt and Morrison did for us years before. We were champions our young players did well good enough for them to be wanted by others when we came down, most of the others Krul apart did not make the jump up that many of the Sheffield Utd players did. Yes the Blades spent about £30m when they went up but non of those players actually made much of a contribution to their season. Leeds and Villa have the backing to make levels of investment we can only dream about, Villa it just worked, for Leeds the early indications are that it may work. Our track record for many many seasons when in the PL is that when we spend big money, it is big money by our standards but not by other clubs standards and that we are left with a bang average player on high wages that no one wants. I cannot recall over the last 20 years when we have been in PL buying a player that really makes a big difference there and then since Dean Ashton and what would he cost in the current market £30m plus
  20. I really do not think that a lot of people realize how bad things are likely to get in the football league this season, with no guarantee that it will be better for the season after that. We have been shrewd enough as a club to get our young talent on decent contracts so that we can realise a significant return on them. At the end of the day as has been said many many times if a player wants to leave for a bigger club, more money and and opportunity to advance their career we cannot stand in their way and for the most part having a player handcuffed to the club when they do not want to be here will just be full of negative consequences. Buendia is my favorite player, he would rip up this division and he is the lynchpin of the squad in my opinion, but if he does not want to stay why keep him, he has not played a games for us yet this season, some of that was down to suspension but also latterly because his head was not right. We notice it more this season because we have 5 good young players that many other clubs want, often in the past it has just been the odd one. I regret their going in many ways but as King Canute demonstrated you cannot stop the tide coming in
  21. Lets get real , other than a short period in the 1970s and 1980s this club has never been an established Top Flight club and i see little prospect of us being one. We are a good championship club that frequently gets the opportunity to play with the big boys. When we have a decent little run in the top flight other bigger fish steal our managers and players, when we go down our better players get sold. This will never change unless someone buys the club who has very deep pockets and there is no real prospect of that happening, but you never know. We currently have a good strategy of developing youth , some our own some bought young from other clubs playing and improving them, then selling them at a decent profit, it is given our status a good place to be, in the footballing food chain in England we are probably top 30 and on occasions top 20 but that is how it is, it could be better but it could be a lot worse and many supporters from many clubs would swap places with us. Most seasons there is something interesting going on and in a period of the biggest threat to football in a century, our production line of talent has safeguarded the future of the club for many years to come
  22. These are very strange social and economic times. With no spectators probably for the whole of this season all non Premiership clubs are in trouble. We should be grateful that we have assets that we can realize which brings in serious money to guarantee our safety as a club in the long term and football at least at championship level. The PL will be expected to assist the rest of the football league with a survival package which i suspect will be akin to the old workhouse. PL transfer spending in the current climate will be reduced, transfer fees like the stock market will be less than pre covid and very few league clubs will have much money to spend on transfers and i suspect in the league future salary contracts will also be reduced. It is not all doom and gloom then we still have a club and playing at a decent level and in a far far healthier state than most other championship clubs. The disruption of players coming and going may well seriously damage our chances of promotion, but it is a long season and it also depends what the financial fall out to other clubs have, we may be pleasantly surprised come the second half of the season. I wish all the departing players well, sad but inevitable that they are going but we are making good money on them all its not as though any of them have run down their contracts and gone for nothing and i agree we will probably lose the lot now. Clearly a lot of our younger players at the moment are not thought to be ready or good enough hence many are out on loan, BUT there are others who may well be and may well seize the opportunity that they will be given of playing. We may well be advised to buy a couple of good championship players to bolster the squad if all the young top talent leave. Forget if players are good enough for the PL we are not in the PL and if and when we get there again then that is the time to have that debate, we need to concentrate on getting a settled championship squad as soon as possible and for ambitious league players we will be a very attractive club to join. Non of this is a surprise, much to be grateful for look forward not back and if we are in and around the mix by the festive period we still have a decent chance at promotion albeit next season may be a more realistic bet
  23. Well like most things at the moment a fortnight is a long time, things happen and decision making changes. There is very little chance of fans in any numbers at all being able to return to grounds this season. Germany are held up as one of the few countries that have done a half decent job with this pandemic, it is interesting to see what their current rule are. They are i believe maximum 20% capacity AND only clubs in areas that have a current infection rate of 35/100000 or less. At the moment most of Norfolk would be ok, but a slight question mark over Gt yarmouth but an enormous number of clubs up and down the country would fail the less than 35/100000, probably most of the PL at the moment, plus things change so quickly the figures can be ok one week and very different a week later. I went to York for a night earlier in the month when we went it was 5/100000 today it is over 50/100000. I would be content if we just accepted that next seasons season tickets are frozen and this years money paid for them,in my case i have paid the whole lot up front. I appreciate others may have a different view and some may not want to bother at all having a season ticket next year, there will come a point if this drags on and on that a lot of people will just bail out of season tickets
  24. There are many thought provoking comments on this topic. What i would say is that society is in a constant process of evolution changing gradually all the time with its attitudes, loves, hates ad prejudices and everything that links in with society for example sport and entertainment changes with it. The longer people have been about the more change we have seen some of it for the better some not and that is subjective. I started going to football for the first time as a 13 year old boy in Sheffield in1970. There was not a parent in sight i went with my mates from school, it was as cheap as chips to get in but football grounds were dangerous places the violence people saw going to games at that time was incredible. When there were large crowds some spectators who were all standing and crammed in like sardines used to **** on the people in front of them because they could not get out to the loo. I was at Hillsborough the day Elton John then in charge of Watford came out as gay and the homophobic chants of the crowd were horrific. we move on as we went to all seating after various disasters, the prices gradually went up and it became a more family orientated past time and now living in Norwich from 1978 i was happy to take my young children, going to the football was a way of life , mixed in with otherday today events and part of the social calendar. The game has changed more money in it at the top and mouth watering salaries and transfer fees. Our championship winning season two years ago was one of the most enjoyable that i can ever remember. Last season with the exception of the odd game was the most unenjoyable i can remember summed up as others say with VAR the Pukki goal that was not against spurs and the retaken penalty v Arsenal. The COVID came along a once in a century development that non of us have experienced before. Watching games on TV is not the same, for the first time in our lives we cannot go to games even if we want to with no return any time soon. The social calendar is broken, coming is a habit not coming could be a habit too only time will tell
