Do I Detect A Double Standard?
Canary Pirate replied to Lord Flashheart's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City

The two fans yesterday will get a ban for their passion, whereas Delia gets nothing. Thats the double standard.
Certainly. [Y] But I''m talking about the one which seems to allow veneration for those who ran on the pitch yesterday but criticism for Delia''s antics a few years ago. In essence I''m trying to figure out why people think that the former can be justified by the latter can''t.
The club rules do not allow supporters over the perimeter fence without permission by a club representative whilst the ground is open. There is no rule preventing Delia coming on to the pitch at half time doing her embarrassing thing. The two fans broke the law, Delia''s antics were just irresponsible. -

Sorry, I can''t condone what they did. When you purchase you season ticket you agree to abide by the rules of the club and those guys knew the rules. If you accept their behaviour then you are sanctioning the breaking of any of the club rules that are in place at the time.
So answer the question... All of the people who broke the rules of Crewe Alexandra FC on the final day of our promotion season, should they be banned also, or simply banned from Gresty Road??? [:^)]
That is not a fair question and you know you can''t compare the two. If trouble had flared at Gresty Road and supporters were in danger then any troublemakers would hopefully have been picked up on camera and dealt with accordingly ( but presumably this was not the case ). What happened yesterday was not some over exhuberant celebration but two supporters making an illegal demonstration using threatening behaviour ( I certainly wouldn''t have liked being confronted by them.

Send them to Afghanistan with the Light Dragoons. This may put into perspective their illegal protest. -

About 10 minutes after final whistle, same as always. -
I''m braced for a kicking..... I think today could be a kick-start. It shouldn''t be, i''m not excusing, defending or accepting today''s performance in any way, in fact i''m still shocked by the score, but i don''t think we''re a doomed side. Before today you couldn''t find a forum poster that wasn''t brimming with confidence for the season, the squad was nicely balanced and full of confidence etc etc. There were even people supporting John Otsemobor. Does a potentially good side become **** overnight? I don''t think so. We''ve still got a goalkeeper who was credited with winning the A-league single handedly (4-4-2 magazine July) and is undoubtedly a capable keeper. (what happened today, I daren''t imagine, but aren''t calls for him never to play again a little OTT? I expect everyone calling for his head to apologise IF he turns it around). From the other comments today - Nelson isn''t the worst defender ever. He wouldn''t be the captain of a fellow league one side if so. Equally, Tudor Jones isn''t crap. Neither is Holt. Neither is Whaley, Gill or Martin. The Doc might be. Clearly we''ve a lot more work to do than we expected before today, but i believe today''s was a freak result that will be forgotten by the end of the season. I''m happy to be slated if i''m wrong, but let''s give the team more than one game. Am i the only one to stand by my optimism from before today?
Brave post and I''m not going to give you a kicking. We are all great at shooting from the hip OTT especially after the unexpected hiding we got today. But there are many of us who are happy to shout our mouths off whilst in an emotional fit. Thats pretty easy to do in hindsight after the event. Even the most fervent of anti Gunners at the game today probably thought that there was a good chance we would win today and they would have had to be a bit more reserved in their comments had we of done so. But...........1 - 7 and cue the vociferous angry I told you so supporters coming to the fore !!![:D]

I'll tell you whose fault this is...
Yes, it was the Boards decision to appoint Mr Gunn in the first place, Yes, it was Mr Gunn who wanted the job; and is so clearly not up to it, but who, The Majority of Supporters... The happy clappy, lets all chear Gunny Brigade; signing his name after we rolled over at Portman road, singng his name during our last home defeat; and still singing his name after our Valley Humiliation. A man who had had 4 months in the job'' more loan players and a record, just as bad as the detested Roeder. So, well done Fans; i hate to say i told you so; but Mr B Gunn as a permanent manager was a disaster that was inevitable; any san fan could see it...but the thousands of you who constantly decided that you would show Mr Gunn your support and give our (then inept) board a perfect excuse for the cheap option. Perhaps, realisation has set in; those lovey dovey fans werent''t singing his name in joy at 4.45 this afternoon (although i wouldnt put it past them). Thankfully, i couldn''t make it today; and hadsold my season ticket for the game for £10; perhaps i should let him keep it for that £10; its not worth much more is it.. So three chears to you all; and for old times sake; just so we can remember gunns record of 1 point from his last 5 games that was so well recieved.... BRYAN GUNN, BRYAN GUNN, BRYAN BRYAN GUNN, HE''S GOT NO HAIR BUT WE DON''T CARE, BRYAN BRYAN GUNN .
Good job you couldn''t make then as no doubt you would have invaded the pitch and thrown your season ticket at Bryan Gunn ??? -
it wernt all bad !

No thanks, if you hear him quoting " I have some unfinished business left to do at Norwich " be very afraid ! Now why does that comment sound familiar ? [;)]

There has been so much publicity on here, on the radio, on the telly, in the papers, you clearly have not been paying attention, there is no excuse for you not knowing therefore I can not help you.........................besides I''ve forgotten who they all are ! [:D]
It''s not often that the first game of the season is a "must win" but I think this one is. Remember the start of the Prem season? Palace at home, what better chance to get our first win on the board straight away. But we could only draw and it set the tone for the rest of the season. The nearer Saturday gets, the more it feels like one of those [+o(]
Er....no ! Its how you recover from a bad result that is important. I do believe a few years back when Reading stormed the championship they lost their first league game of the season at home. Of course it would be nice to win the first game, but a must bwin game, it certainly isn''t.

Whos getting fired up then?
Canary Pirate replied to Forever Norwich's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Excited, but also apprehensive and nervous about the high expectations. Its a big burden to carry around being one of the promotion favourites as several other teams have as good or a better opportunity than us for promotion. We need a strong mental strength to go with our alleged talent. We will only find out if we have this after a few league games. Of course there are also unknowns to come into play such as can we keep Hoolahan and can we avoid injuries. Thats why we love the game I expect ! [:)] -

Stupid omens and superstitions
Canary Pirate replied to LQ's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I believe that listening to a live commentary on the radio of a Norwich game is bad luck. I foolishly broke my superstition last season and listened to Donny Rovers away game. Not only did I walk about 5 miles pacing up and down in the kitchen during the second half, I somehow walked into the clothes horse and fell over in a embarrassing heap and had to be disentangled by the wife, ( thats the nearest I ever came to doing any ironing ). Err.......we were also relegated of course. NEVER AGAIN !!! [:$] -
i think our club has a great fan base but i have to admit i am sick of happy clappers who have spoilt our club. these are the fans who CLAPPED the players of at charlton when we were AWFUL and we were relegated into the third tier of football. these morons need to seek medical help. we now do have to club together and give our new look team all the support possible.
hmm...........so if we lose to Colchester, will you quickly turn on our new look team and boo them off the pitch, does that make you any better than a happy clapper ??? [:$]

We will need to start off the league season with experience in midfield, something that Adeyemi lacks ay present. It would not be fair to put this responsibility on his 17 tear old shoulders at this stage. If he keeps up the good work I can see him making an impact mid season, he is still learning ( and doing a very good job of it ! ).[:)]
-
Of course he will inevitably be judged on results and rightly so but he has demonstrated good qualities in his transfer dealings with limited funds. I don''t think he is going to turn out to be a weak minded, easily led, yes man as suggested on other posts. Good luck Gunny in your quest to build a Norwich team we can all be proud of.[:)]
-
What is it about Semmy ?, he seems to attract a fair bit of critisism, is described as not too bad ( but often not too good either ), yet is invariably in the team. Is there something about him that I am just not seeing, I am sure we have never had a right back that makes as few tackles as he does ! [8-)]

Ok so far, he has done a lot of good work in the close season and appears to be building a squad we can possibly be proud of. Of course the real test will come when we start the serious stuff. I am more optimistic now and am looking forward to the new season, that has to be progress.[:)]
