1.

Ability is not the issue with England, it is more a question of how much commitment, desire, passion, guts and even basic interest they can generate.  Sounds a bit like another team closer to home (mind you the ability of one or two of them is also in question I suppose).
I think it''s all about ability, or lack of it, personally. Watching us try to defend a one goal lead in Russia was pitiful - totally bereft of cool heads, incapable of keeping possession, embracing panicky, lump-it agricultural garbage the minute we were put under pressure. Part of me would truly not be that bothered if we stuff it up on Wednesday, and I think we just might.
I take your point but frankly the likes of Gerrard, Owen, Lampard, Terry et al do have enough ability to get into pretty much any international side and perform to a consistently high standard at club level.  The poor tactics you refer to in Russia were as much down to a nugget of a manager and poor coaching it seems to me.  Interesting question is why players with the experience and talent we had on the pitch that day couldnt see what was happening and organise themselves to deal with the situation as well. Guess we will have to agree to disagree.
 2.

Agree with all that but the problem with Leon was the manner of his departure.  To throw his teddy out of the pram the way he did........
You dont know what went on there..... happened to Safri too. And Hunter. And Jarvis. and.......and....and......
True enough, none of us do.  But fact is we were left in the lurch without time to replace him.  Oh, and Leon left under Worthy unlike Safri and Hunter.  As for Jarvis he is still one of ours isnt he, just away on loan?  So I dont get your point.
 3. According to Smudger the request to postpone is "Another vain attempt by those with no balls to put a halt to matters... and frnakly I find it disgusting that those of you out there would hind behind a City heros death to further your own agendas". Can I just say Smudger that I find it disgusting that (at the time of writing this) a) you have yet to find the time to mark this "City heros (sic)" passing by taking the time to post on the Paddon tribute thread and b) you are still so up your own butt that you cannot see that you might actaully be wrong. Call yourself a supporter - you just lost any shred of credibility you had in my eyes.  You are simply an egotistic numpty (I would put what I really feel but dont want to waste the moderators time). 5. Too early to say if he is a saviour or a liability as we have never actually seen him play fit.  Last season he showed flashes (e.g. Sheff Wed away) of what he could do but was generally suffering from not being up to pace with the English game.  This season likewise a good half game against Saints before injury got him.  I hope your assessment is right but lets not get carried away otherwise if he has one bad game some on here will have him damned forever.
 6. Another decent looking loan - seem to remember several on here suggesting we went for him at the time he left Celtic.  Should be able to do the business at this level and likely to get a run for the rest of the season now we have lost Drury (who I think we are going to miss more than we realise). Nice to think we can pick up someone else before the weekend as well though.
 7.
Whats there to complain about Mckenzie - was never that good, gave his all, scored some important goals, and we sold him for some decent money. If only all players came through as well!
Agree with all that but the problem with Leon was the manner of his departure.  To throw his teddy out of the pram the way he did, at the time he did it (so close to the window shutting there was no time to get a replacement) unfortunately serves to sour my memories of him.  I think we deserved better from him, but at the end of the day he did what he felt was right for him personally and I suppose we all do that from time to time.
 8. I would echo the sentiments of others at this sad news.  Graham was one of the key members of the City side when I first got introduced to football by my Dad in the days when football seemed an altogether more genuine game played by altogether more genuine and commited individuals.  A sad day and my thoughts go to his family.
 9.
Forget Norwich City. If these two just protest against each other it would be far more amusing. Kick it off.......
Reminds me of Life of Brian - "Judean People''s Front. We''re the People''s Front of Judea!" etc
 10.
Ashton? if he''s come back from injury..would they risk putting him into a winning side just yet? or would they send him on loan to us? wish list lol
Whatever your drinking mate, I will have a pint of it as well.
 11.

Didn''t roeder say that the player was a premier league player.
I think he did, in which case Dave Nugent sounds much more likely esp as Portsmouth seem to have more strikers than they know what to do with!
Nugent is being linked with a big money move to Derby, can''t see him coming here over that.  He would want a chance to prove he was worthy of the Premiership, a move here would be like admitting he was not.  Of course if he did go to Derby a certain buck toothed little troll look-a-like would be another step down the pecking order there and might be tempted to swallow his pride for a first team place....Now that would make for an interesting reception from the snake pit.
 12. Yeah, at the end of this season of likely disappointment, spent watching players who ought to be good enough to win games play like a bunch of muppets at FCR, all we need to make next summer perfect  would be the chance to watch overpaid wasters in England shirts fail to achieve at a major tournament.
 13. A nice bit of news to brighten my morning coffee break and a second example of how Roeder has managed to do what previously seemed impossible and get Premiership loans in.  Let''s hope he can find a centre forward before the Coventry game as well.
 14.

as there aren''t many of them and we need them all.
Even if they are crap!.[:|]
Sorry Wiz, but it is too early to say if he is crap as he has only started 2 games due to serious injury (neither were in his best position in the centre).  I agree he has not looked like the answer to a maiden''s prayer in those two outings but there are other targets more deserving of criticism at present.  He also has the benefit of last season''s experience of a Championship relegation dog fight.
 15.
an utter no show....again??? have to say, when i heard the squad, i was reasonably hopeful, but after 5 min, it was clear we were back to roll over and die. big (nigh impossible) job for roeder now, make no mistake.
Agreed, wonder how long before people start getting on Roeder''s back though?  On paper these players still look capable of mid-table but the lack of passion, commitment and basic ability they display week in week out frankly now beggars belief.  In all my years following City I have never felt so down and actually embarrased at the shower of shite who turn out for us.  The Ipswich game aside we have looked awful for weeks and I dont see how Roeder is going to turn this one around.
 16. A point might be acceptable if we start picking up wins at home but that is a big "if" on present form. Plymouth''s home record is not exactly awesome - 2 wins, but 4 draws and 1 defeat, scored 7 and conceded 6.  Mind you that is still a damn bit better than ours [:(]  Perhaps a low scoring draw, but realistically we need a win to avoid falling too far adrift of the teams above us.
 17.
10 years of neglect costing city
Thanks for this detailed and thought provoking analysis [^o)]
 18. Today Hucks showed signs of being back to something like his form of the second half of last season.  Dont know if this was down to being more match fit or the change in management but either way it is to be welcomed.  Was stupidity to get sent off though at that point in the game. We can still use a fully fit and motivated Huckerby, it is the moaning one I can do without and whom we have seen more of lately.  I believe he can be trouble behind the scenes (and that is why I think he has played at so many clubs over the years) however if he is on song he can make all the difference so I would not want to write him off just yet.
 19. Agreed, he did rather show the difference between a Premiership reserve defender and the sort of Championship hackers we see week in week out.  Think it might be a possibility to extend his loan surely as he looked a good influence on Shackell who was able to pass the ball to others in yellow shirts today for the first time in months.
 20.

Good - brought back brellier,  kept it 442, and focused on passing the ball,   Introducton of Hartson changed game,  used smith  Bad - felt the starting line up relied  on ''big names'' rather than form and ability;  neither  Dublin and CUreton form did not deserve a starting place fortunately onl;y one was a mistake;  Brown not even on the bench was harsh given his form this year.
I agree in a small part, but he has been with them at the training ground for a few days now and more than likely saw them in action and you can bet your bottom dollar that players like Dubs and Curo would have been the most passionate players at the club. I was very surprised that he played Brellier, but he showed in patches what a player we al thought he was when he signed for us, keep it up mate, like I said in a post before someone like Clarke and Roadio will show and help him.
I agree about Brellier (who was a revelation this afternoon) - one through ball with outside of foot to Rusty in first half which Cureton shot wide was worthy of Chippy Crook at his best.  Let''s not get too excited but I hope he keeps this standard up.
 21. Seems harsh to criticise anything he did today.  After a few days to get to know the players he got them playing like a team - we put a string of passes together; we closed down and harried in midfield; we had width, we could put set pieces into dangerous areas; the likes of Brellier, Chadwick and Rusty suddenly looked like professional footballers (and Hucks looked up for it as well although his stupid challenge at the end deprives us of his services at a time we can ill afford).  That team today was so different in attitude and confidence from the last days of Grant and the Duffy period yet the spine of the team was basically the same individuals. I hope to God this is not a false dawn and that we can carry this form on into the Watford game and beyond - but if we can surely some wins cannot be far away.  Great start Glenn, you have gone some way towards making some of us doubters eat our words and I will happily tuck into another plate full on Tuesday if you could arrange it.
 22. How many had you downed before you had this brain wave?

"You and the other morons do not rise above the hysteria, you milk it and revel in it purely for enjoyment and to throw childish insults.  Like any extreme minority you bully and abuse and stick together to try and get power above your station.  Nobody wanted the Nazi''s, but they got heard through the same style of trying to knock down anyone who disagreed through pack mentality"   Sorry JC but you undermine the strength of your argument (with which I find a lot of sympathy) by coming up with such a daft and excessive analogy as to compare Cluck et al with Nazis.  You effectively give them an excuse to ignore the nature of your criticism of them as they (rightly) react to your insult. Arthur, Cluck, Smudger etc see things differently to many others on here, sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong, often they are prone to hyperbole - but sometimes I also find myself questioning my own view as a result of what they post.  Throughout it all though I never really find myself doubting their credentials as fans.  If we all agreed on everything on here the whole forum would be a total bore - it''s the difference between genuine fans that drives and stimulates debate. I wish we could have more sensible discussion and less labelling of people as sheep, binners, morons, nazis etc - the whole damn forum would be better as a result.  Far better we all concentrate on backing the new boss (because we are stuck with him now for the rest of the season whether we like it or not) and team (ditto for the most part) and try to turn around performances so we avoid the nightmare of relegation. Hippy peace-nic rant over.
Well said.
No worries - I am just a bit fed up with all the petty name calling on here of late.  I have calmed down now though after listening to some Donovan LPs and tucking into a lunch of organic museli.  Love and light posters! [H]

 25.
It''s almost like we are paying premium prices so we naturally expect a premium product.
To be fair though HHC is that so hard to understand - afterall, if I pay more money for anything in life dont I have an expectation to receive a better product as a result?  If not then Porsches would surely cost the same as a Skoda.  Maybe I have misunderstood you point though - its been a long day already! I agree with what you say though about Sky being the ruination of football today - cant be right when only the same two/three teams are capable of winning the league each year.
