1. Welcome Eric! You are now a PUP for your sins[&][Y]   Now I was feeling guilty because I started to feel I had dropped Devon in it by giving him this week. But as always you PUPs have come up trumps in finding good selections for him to consider. Herman even went to Australia to find his. Good on ya sport[;)]   I''m off to another part of the world for mine. Brazil''s top league where Fluminense are at home to America MG. Fluminense sit third just 2 points behind Corinthians while America MG are rock bottom. Fluminense are W11 D1 L4 F28 A17 at home. America MG are W0 D6 L10 away from home. The game kicks off at 9pm on Saturday and Fluminense look fairly priced on Bet365 at 4/9 for the home win.   Fluminense            V            America MG            Home Win.   Good luck Ben and all you intrepid PUPs!
2. Greetings PUPs and welcome to week ten of the Rays Funds for FONCY season. This week, it’s Delia’s Devonshire Dirtbox in charge and making the final selections. Devon has been with us from the start since way back in 2006 and has been virtually ever present since. Always up and around the top of our league he has shown himself to be consistently one of our very best PUPs. This season is no exception and Devon only lost his 100% record last weekend in that shock result from Huddersfield. However he still occupies his usual place near the top of our league with an 8/9 89% strike rate. One of the great things about these threads is how they bring together fans from all over. Some of us PUPs have been lucky enough to have met Devon at a couple of games last season. I often think Ray’s greatest legacy is the friendships that have been forged through the Rays Funds threads.   Now good as Devon is he will still need all you PUPs to be on top form if he’s going to get his name on Ray’s signature and add to our total for the academy. Don’t forget we need your very best selection from the games being played this weekend. Don’t worry if someone else has already napped your selection because a weight of numbers can be a great help. This weekend the domestic program is dominated by the FA Cup. We also have the Scottish leagues some of the European leagues and a few international friendlies to choose from. On the face of it this means there’s a reduced choice for us but I’m sure Devon is the right man to find us six winning selections from the ammunition we provide. Remember we can only consider matches that are listed by Bet365 for the final selections. This is imperative because I will be placing the bets there online. Bet365 website is here but you can just as easily check by using our old favourite odds checker.com. If you’re unsure ask on the thread and I’m sure one of us can help you.   I’ve provisionally set the rota for December. This takes in the Christmas and New Year games : - December 3rd - Mr. Bump December 11th - Inch High December 18th - Davo December 26th - Til1010 December 31st - Graham Humphrey As always let me know if these dates aren’t suitable. They can easily be changed.   I’ll hand the thread over to Devon now. Remember there’s no pressure because we are all going to be doing our best to help you get your name in the Free Bet Hall of fame. We all stand together with the single aim of raising money for our great clubs academy. Good luck all you PUPs... take it away Ben ... the free bet is yours.......[:)].......   As always I leave you with Rays signature which now reads :- Carve their names with pride.Yankee,3,Fellas,3,P''boro,2,Mr Chops,2,NewYork, Inch High,2, Blahblahblah, NCFC_Shaun, 1st Wazzock, Fonejacker,3, Norfolkbroadslim, Norfolkchance1, Scooby,2, Trent Canary, Cosmic Twin, Graham Humphrey, Leedscanary, NcfcStar, Herman, yes Norfolkchance1 £1324 for the Academy,so far.
3. Maybe he''s up to the Premiership and maybe not. The jury is still out as it is with others in our 25 man squad. He was however signed for the Championship and was definitely up to that. The only conclusion you can draw is that Surman isn''t in Lamberts best 11 at the moment.   Because of our rapid rise through the leagues we have players signed for League One. Some of these are proving to be "up to the Premiership". Grant Holt is an obvious one but another is Russell Martin who Posh never rated good enough for the Championship!

6. I did Ruddy. I was just having a little fun with Eric.   Eric, I lurked for ages before I posted on here. Got "beat up" a few times by some regulars when I first posted. But I reckon this is the best Norwich forum by a long chalk. You have to have your wits about you and be a bit thick skinned if you want to mix it with some. But it''s not the "bed of vipers" some would have you believe.   The new Rays Funds thread will be up tomorrow and we''d all love you to take part.
7.
Speaking as someone who lives some distance from Norfolk, and only gets to 6 or 7 games a season, I rely greatly on this site for inside info on NCFC. The thing I like about it is that ,in the main, there are no bully-boy tactics, a wide variety of opinions are allowed, stated rationally, and debated in a calm , reasoned manner.  Compare that with a whole host of forums (not just football) where there are insults and threats, posts get deleted, and posters get banned frequently.   Maybe I''m just being naive, and all this sort of malarkey goes on behind the scenes and gets edited out by the Mods, but somehow , I doubt it. I guess what I, and a number of others are saying, is that as long as an opinion is voiced in a constructive manner, then why should it be dismissed by the forum "regulars" ?   Football is all about opinions and looking at different angles. PL is a shining example of this. He did not take the cosy route into management. He studied different ways of doing things and opinions in Germany etc. Which goes a long way to explaining why his career so far has been a pretty successful one.
I should avoid any threads started by me then Eric. I attract all kinds of lunatics who will tear my opinion to shreds. This thread seems to offend so many of them but I don''t understand why.
8. Just lately I’ve noticed some of the Lower Barclay being lazy and not tracking back from the half-time bar with any urgency. You can say what you like about atmosphere but no noise is created by empty seats. It’s like they just don’t care and can’t be bothered. A few reserve games may be the wake up call they need. I’ve also noticed that many fans, in the South Stand especially, seem to forget a football match lasts 90 minutes and even more go missing in stoppage time. Perhaps we should use some of the fans watching in the pubs as impact subs for those who tire after 84 minutes. Some of the Riverenders look like they could do with a spell in the stiffs to get them going whilst the Main Stand are a shadow of their forefathers who would throw missiles at the referee if he was deemed to be having a bad game. The passion has gone from there. I blame the tea and biscuits replacing the hot toddys that used to fuel their passion. And finally in all areas of the ground there’s too many warnings for standing. This could result in fans being banned later in the season when we need them most.
9. I should imagine Tilly is a fan of flares now he''s found his sea legs. A flare could be Captain Birdseye''s best friend if his boat got into trouble on the way to the game[st]
10. I reckon Lambert picked a team to get a positive result from the game. He was quite close too wasn''t he? We weren''t beaten comprehensively like we were at Doncaster last year. On another day we''d have drawn this game two each and Lambert would still be the messiah. Can anyone honestly say they think we''d have got a better result playing an unchanged team?   We lost the game 3-2 and struggled to cope with Abonlahor''s pace and Bent''s movement. However we were never out of the game, had 52% possession and had 6 corners ( The same as Villa).
11. I''m not playing Slim....   That post is too full of waffle even for me to join in!
12.
Are we talking about the same morons who sing songs about poor Fash? Are we also talking about the same morons who sing the ''die die Delia'' song? They can f**k off. ITFC fans will ALWAYS be scum in my eyes, a bit of clapping wont change that.
And they will revert to type again soon enough. But for now it doesn''t hurt to recognise those actions for what they were or say nothing at all.
13. Good post.   The winter period is a trial for all teams but especially those with a soft centre. We shall find out more about ourselves but also, and more importantly, we shall find out more about our rivals. I''m confident we don''t have a soft centre and that clubs won''t relish playing us on cold wet afternoons and evenings. I also haven''t written the Arsenal game off!
14.
Nutty sorry to be a moaning bugger BUT how comes my stats are never on here? Not that they are impressive lol
Nothing sinister buddy. The published table shows PUPs who have picked at least 50% right in at least half the available weeks. If you pick right next week you''ll be back on there. At the moment you''re 2-5 40%.
15.
Nutty, to your question, "What was I expecting?", quite frankly you may recall as the season commenced I was expecting that our defence would make mistakes that many of the more talented players in the Premier League would jump on. Therefore, what occurred on Saturday was not a surprise to me, indeed, I expect to see more of it. What has been a surprise to me is how well the boys have done up to this point. I realise that many of the recent threads opining on who should be dropped/who should be recalled is good fun for those who wish to engage in such discussion. For me, however, I believe that the fellows we have in the squad for centre backs and full backs are fairly even in quality and Lambert''s management skills will be the catalyst to maintain healthy competition so that one or two push for an edge. Regardless of who we start in those positions, on days when the talented forwards in opposition are really on their game we are going to make our share of mistakes and it will be difficult for us to get something from such games. On other days when we execute in a highly disciplined manner we may be able to get something off the top teams even. This is what I expect ongoing throughout this season.
I remember what you said Yankee and it was a shrewd judgement which has been proved right. I also agree with your assessment of our defence. It''s going to be the best unit the Lambert can put togther rather than the best four defenders. This team ethic is something that us fans don''t always consider. Despite a couple of glaring mistakes I thought DeLaet was one of our better defenders early season. But Lambert decided to take a look at Martin in the centre and the unit functioned better. The change, at the time, I believe was forced on Lambert because of the game coming up at Old Trafford when De Laet couldn''t play. Otherwise I think he''s loathe to change the back 5 without very good reason because the more a unit plays together the more effective they become. I doubt Barnett will be dropped after Saturday but we shall see.   What I think none of us were expecting is the more open play generally in this seasons Premier League. There have been nearly 50 more goals scored than the same stage last season. Or to put it another way nearly 50 more goals conceded!! The fact that we have a goal difference of -2 points to us coping better defensively than many of us expected. As I said earlier Swanseas 5 clean sheets aren''t a lot of good if they''re beneath us on goal difference.
16. Thanks again Purple. I’m glad you enjoyed your week in charge. It turned out to be a very difficult week as can be seen by the stats. 58 PUPs selected this week with 34 correct and 1 postponed game making a success rate of 59%. We gave Purple 28 different selections to consider of which 16 were correct and one postponed which was a strike rate of just 59%. These are the worst stats of the season and show what a difficult task Purple had. Amongst the shockers that contributed to these stats were home draws for Huddersfield and Liverpool which accounted for 12 losing PUPs. Here’s our league table showing those PUPs with over 50% correct from at least 50% of the available weeks. We now have just 4 PUPs who have selected a winner in each of our 9 weeks. 17.

Unrealistic expectation can start a rot at a football club. We have seen how that works. The atmosphere of negativity can go right through the club. We are nowhere near that now but take a look at Blackburn. The manager and players operate in a siege inviroment where they are trying to succeed in spite of the fans. I would never want to see that at our club again.
I don''t think their is an unrealistic expectation, I don''t think there will be ''Lambert out'' campaigns if we get relegated. I think people just need to have something to complain about. If you just accept that our defence is going to leak goals etc etc etc then everything becomes a bit more dull.... I might be making wrong assumptions, but I really don''t think anyone is genuinely upset/disappointed/angry at the Villa result, as I said in my earlier post pretty much everyone is going to be delighted with our current position and progression. There is three outcomes really for this season, one we start to lose more and more games and end up relegated or very near to relegation, two we carry on like we have done so far and stay in great position, or three we go on to do even better and easily finish top half of the table. Now under Lambert I simply cannot write off the top half of the table option, because he has already over achieved twice, you only have to look at McNally''s 7 year plan to see that, Lambert is way ahead of schedule, and to be honest it really wouldn''t be a huge shock if we do finish high up the table. And thats what people want, it may be unrealistic, but the fans want as good results as possible, and while we are making what surely can be said to be far too many defensive mistakes, there is something to moan about. If every result we got this season was done so playing to our best, with little or no mistakes, then there wouldn''t be as much moaning. And again, maybe unrealistically people expect more, our attacking play on the whole has been very good, and at times we have been pretty solid defensively, so when were let down by a dodgy back pass or poor marking, that undoes all that good attacking play, its simply too much to ask for people not to moan....
Is it because it''s me that posted that so many replies seem to be about something I haven''t posted. I agree with everything you have posted GP buddy.   I was quite specific in my opening post. For instance I didn''t question the rational critiscisms such as "Is it time to recall DeLaet". Surely that''s what the forum is for. The replies from the likes of Indy and Broadslim don''t really relate to anything I posted. But they are entitled to read anything they want into my post if it makes them happy.
18.
Drop Barnett, replace him with The Doc! (where is the doc these days?)
Isn''t it obvious? The rugby tackle and the back pass suggest he''s our defensive coach[:O] [;)]   More to the point, who in our present team do you see as a good scapegoat[:^)]
19. Thanks Harry. I wasn''t saying folk shoiuldn''t have an opinion or that they shouldn''t be critical. I''m sometimes critical too. But I thought some of the negativity since we got beat at Villa by the odd goal in five was a bit OTT. I think it''s unkind to accuse players who have taken us to where we are of not caring. I believe they deserve better and a little bit of faith from us is nothing less than they deserve. Paul Lambert may well make changes. But if he does he won''t go telling players they aren''t good enough or telling them they don''t care or are disinterested. He''ll just make different selections from the players he has available with the minimum of fuss and upset. There are plenty of posts suggesting changes he could make without having a pop at the players who have earnt our respect.   What I did ask was what were some of you expecting?   To want as many clean sheets as Swansea ON TOP of what we''ve already achieved would more than likely put us in the top six? Is that realistic? I bet the players think it is. And they will be aiming foir it. But if they miss and don''t get there they have already earnt our support.
20. "Barnett needs dropping" "Hoolahan needs dropping" "We can''t keep a clean sheet" "Defensively sieve like" "Too many bookings" "Holt shouldn''t start" "Drop Bennett" "Naughton isn''t good enough" "Hoolahan is disinterested and doesn''t care"   And my favourite of all is the jealousy of Swansea''s clean sheets. "Swansea have kept 5 clean sheets" We are above Swansea on goal difference! We also beat them 3-1!! One of their clean sheets was a 0-0 draw at  home to Sunderland!! Yet they have more clean sheets so are somehow better than us?? You couldn''t make it up!   Top half of the Premier League after 11 games. Not some mini league of so-called fellow relegation candidates. A goal difference better than 9 others in that same league even though we''ve already played Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool away. What more were some of you expecting?   We need to believe in Paul Lambert and the team. Not let expectation sour our relationship with the players. Some of whom have taken us from the bottom of League One to the top half of the Premier League. They have earnt our support because they''ve never yet failed us. Unless your expectations were greater than their achievements. I believe, with our support they will continue to surpass realistic expectations of any fan.
21. Everyone''s entitled to their opinion but if you''re right and he "didn''t care" and "couldn''t be bothered" then I doubt Lambert will pick him again. I haven''t seen this in any player since Lambert took over. That''s a hell of an accusation to level at any pro footballer.
22. That''s what I think too GP. Gutted for you Purple. Nothing is ever certain in this game. Thanks again for your efforts the bad luck came early this weekend.
23.
Evening Nutty, Tom(Trent Canary?) still appears to be having trouble getting his pick on here so he''s put it on the FB page: HAJDUK SPLIT -v- Varazdin  HOME WIN I''m sure he''d wish all PUPs especially Purple Good Luck if he could!!![:D]
Thanks for posting this DD. It is Trent and he hasn''t been able to post on here for ages now!
