Yes, that ship has long sailed. Ditto with Russ. Genuine contenders here for the managers job at one time but the moment passed for both. We won't see either now. A lot of people seem sure that we're just hanging on to Wagner until the end of the season before he goes. If we reach the play offs or even finish inside the top 10, why would we then sack him? Unless we genuinely now fall away between now and May, he'll be here for next season.

Think Delias bar has been outdone

Concur, had one of the best burgers I'll ever eat at Chertsey Town FC. -
Used it for a trip to Coventry (we lost, think Mark Hateley scored) -Duncan was onboard that day extolling the virtues of Ross Jack there and back. As soon as the driver started the engine at the ground to leave, it felt as if a couple of dozen Tupperware lunchboxes were all opened in unison. Ditto Saunders from Fakenham for the 1985 League Cup final-still don't know, to this day, how I found the coach again after the match, they weren't messing about, full or not-loads of Norwich fans seemed to leave the stadium as soon as the final whistle went, never mind the presentation etc- a case of "...Oi need to be gettin' hum".

Footballers doing mundane/normal things
Old Shuck replied to The Raptor's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Bob Wilson used to spend a couple of weeks every summer at his Mum's house in Brancaster. A group of us once plucked up enough courage to knock on the door to ask for his autograph ("....you knock", "no, YOU knock", "I can't, you do ittttttt" etc), his Mum answered and we somehow managed to ask for Bob, "....please Mre Wilson, is Bob there?" but, sadly, he wasn't at home....well, that's what she said, anyway. Paul Kent once called out to me as he sat in his car at Brancaster Staithe harbour (we'd met a couple of times previously) but I couldn't recall who he was and had to ask to be reminded. Bet Pele never had that problem. I interviewed Johnny Ertl (ex Pompey) on Chichester Hospital Radio, he insisted on my signing up for the Portsmouth Supporters Trust. Mark Shail, who later went onto play for Bristol City was in the same year at my Uni as me. Infinitely better footballer, though he did once ask me to bang over a load of corners on the college pitch so he could practice his defensive headers. -
Why do people do things like this
Old Shuck replied to Well b back's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
So a business got that order, saw the design and 'message' behind it and thought, "...yeah, whatever, we'll knock that off for them-its just a job, nothing to do with us". One of them must work for the company in question. -
Those in the know about our youth

I fear we'll lose Myles to a London club-their scouts and recruitment teams keep a more or less permanent eye on our academy and development sides and we're doing just that, developing them for the likes of a Chelsea or Palace. Swings and roundabouts of course, as we do the same to clubs further down the old pecking order than us. I's like to think any young player would at least think twice about joining Chelsea-for all he has impressed and developed as a player, the fact they still see Conor Gallagher as a potential big sale to help them bring in someone like Osimhen says it all-Gallagher is 23, has played for England and been at Chelsea since he was eight-but has been on loan to four different clubs already. If Spurs offer them £30 million or so for him, he'll be gone and they'll be cracking open the champagne in celebration down at Cobham. Benny Ashley-Seal couldn't get out of her quickly enough when Wolves came calling-but was it for the chance to play at a higher level or for tripling his wages?-whatever, he didn't make a single league appearance for them and has since played in Finland and, once his short term contract at Hamilton ends, will be a free agent, at the end of the season @ 25. As a young player, its crucial, career crucial, to play. More than anything. At as high a level as you can and as early as you can. If Knapper is genuinely passionate about a young team with a progressive playing outlook that gives its own a chance then the likes of Myles will want to give it a proper go here and earn a move on the back of two or three good seasons with us-like Max, Jamal, Ben G et al. Too many agents want to make money out of the young players whilst they can-and who wouldn't listen to some 40-something spiv in a Ferrari who is sweet talking you to join Chelsea? -
Those in the know about our youth

Some of them have very genuine first team potential and could follow Rowe's path to a regular place and a growing reputation in the game with it. Adegboyega and Forsyth probably *the* stand out individuals at the moment. Would hope their chance to impress at first team level arrives in the summer. Others will be seen as easy cash cows and sold on a'la Mumba. One of Warner or Hills possibly. If Pompey go up they'll want Kamara permanently. -
Hypothetical: Emi was willing to stay
Old Shuck replied to The Great Mass Debater's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
In my hazy crazy fantasy world that summer, I had Emi signing a new contract, Skipp signing for another year on loan & our signing Janik Vestergaard from Leicester. -
Yep, we'd look a lot better than we do at the moment if it wasn't for them damned fixtures spoiling everything. "Injuries" -tick. "Fans"- tick. "Fixture list"- tick. What's next? "Heavy pitches"? "Mornings not as dark"? "High pollen count around the vegetable patch"? "Too much chlorine in the swimming pool"?

Jaden Warner; Off on loan?
Old Shuck replied to cambridgeshire canary's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
As long as it isn't another Mumba. He does well there, their Player of Season or similar, County get promoted, he comes back here, can't displace usual crowd in the pre-season friendlies.... ...not even in squad for first two league games, County, not short of a bob or two now, offer £1.5 million and off he goes... -

With that sort of ground coverage, he should nail a place in our midfield. -

Always loved the Black Shuck tales-walking to the beach on the lonely road betwixt the marsh at Brancaster always got me & my friends into something of a state once we started to wind each other up about it, if the wind was blowing and it was a starless night, well...... -

I think Dave Stringer is enjoying his retirement rather too much to want to come back and weave his managerial magic again.

How does Rowe compare?
Old Shuck replied to The Great Mass Debater's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
He's an absolute diamond in that little clip, wonderful to see. Remember the excitement in the local press when Fash was coming through. Then, as others have said, Bellamy. Rowe is up there with them in terms of the excitement and hope we are pinning on him. He seems to love it with us-can't see him going anywhere in January, summer will be the test. But not impossible that he'll sign a new deal, albeit with the now obligatory release clause. -
Which would you prefer?

Never mind Mick. You can have some nice jelly and ice cream for tea and watch Doctor Who later... -
Yes, this and all day long. He is a player who thrives in a team full of technical players who are able to find time and space on the ball, to look up, behind them, move and pick a pass. Brighton suits him to the ground but put him in the Sheffield United team and he'll look as out of place there as he did here. We were running to even attempt to stand still in the PL second time around and he was washed away in the wake of other teams bossing and bullying us something stupid in a lot of games. Agree with the notion that had he been playing along Skipp it might have worked out better for him here. But he's still going to be a player who excels in a dominant team rather than a passive one. We needed a modern version of Gary Holt, another Gary Megson even. If only Tettey had been five years younger...

They won'tt be getting rid of EtH any time soon. And if they do, their ego wouldn't consider appointing a Championship manager to replace him. If, as looks likely, he takes Ipswich up and keeps them in the Prem....then he'd be on their list. It's mid December and there's still a tendancy to find a reason, any reason, why they're going to blow it. Looks increasingly improbable. Losing their coach isn't one of the reasons either.

Its like the bowler in cricket running out the batter when they wander over the crease prior to delivery. Not being seen as in the 'spirit' of the game but perfectly legitimate and in the rules. Same here. It's handball. I'd want the penalty if it was us. If we'd given it away, the anger would be directed at the careless defender, not the ref-you cannot or should not be selective with the games rules, especially when any so-called spirit and sense of fair play evaporated from the game years ago. Remember when we scored at Reading after the ball rebounded to Mulryne off the refs back? The Reading players and supporters went ballistic. But the ref was/is "in play", to disallow the goal would be ignoring the rules. Ditto the goal for, I think, Sunderland at Liverpool, that was assisted by a beach ball on the pitch. Here, the defender handled the ball. So penalty. Accidental? Doesn't matter. VAR gives plenty of penalties for 'accidental' handball now anyway. Ref here was right.
