  1. How refreshing to see such a young team yesterday (albeit many of them loanees). Earlier in the season we were a team of geriatrics. Roeder is well known at WHU and Newcastle for his work with the youngsters, long may it continue so that we can build a younger team. I believe under an astute manager youth play with less complacency and fear, and with more flair (a la Aston Villa). If we keep a nucleus of experience but continue to add youngsters it bodes well for the future. In our financial situaton we would be hard pushed to find a better manager for this task. Roeder has already proved himself beyond even the most optimistic of projections. I hope the board back him to the full and he agrees that we may also be the perfect club and supporters for him. He seems to like the city and the club and is building a great rapport with the supporters...
  2. Why is it everytime we take an army of fans to an away game we get seriously let down? I wonder if the players truly appreciate the following they get or simply freeze on the day...either way it aint good enough.
  3. When he started his online BBC column while with Plymouth he was full of himself and quite funny, now he is just full of himself. I really hope more than usual that we put one over them tomorrow...
  4. Top gate by a long way in the championship this week...and fifth overall including the premiership...thats excellent stats!
  5. We have good numbers but volume is not so good. On the Ball city is a good song when sung heartily by thousands, but when sung by a few its a terrible sound. I would say Wednesday are top, with us in the top six with others like WBA, Bristol etc. But considering our success, or lack of it, probably equivalent to 2nd.
  6. Glenn Roeder and team are doing as good a job as possible under the circumstances...but what a job they have to turn our fortunes around! Some of the games where we have scraped a win recently cannot be allowed to paper over the very wide cracks in our whole set up. Our squad is so poor...a strong reserves team losing 1-5 to Ipswich tells me more about our short term prospects than a scrappy point against Colchester. Its not just England that needs a real root and branch review but us as well. With a few clubs in the Championship receiving big money it looks like we are here to stay for a while...if we are fortunate! Someone recently on this board incredibly asked if we could yet make the playoffs!! I think a distinct reality check is much needed by some. Fortunately we have a good manager who likes youth and who can turn things around, but unless we get investment I realy think it will be like turning a supertanker in the open seas...very slow.
  7. Good post... btw can you remember the save you made against Rodney Marsh when he played for QPR? It was Barclay end and the goal was at his mercy. I was right behind his shot. Not only did you dive to your right and save it but you caught it too...even Rodders had a wry smile on his face. Such moments are great memories made of...
  8. For the first time this season I saw the team with self belief...what an incredible difference it makes. The crowd plays a big part and needs to stay positive even when things go wrong...booing and jeering instils and/or exacerbates the fear factor.
  9. Excellent post...I agree with all you say, especially the part about not blaming Roeder, we must give him time to get us back on track, even if we go down.
  10. What the #*#* you may ask?!  However, at the risk of being slaughtered by the more prejudiced among us I have to say it is difficult not to be impressed by the Ipswich team. They have shown the way by investing and trusting in youth and sticking with a manager who seems very capable (who incidentally did not do much when he first arrived). Their supporters are one thing, no love lost there of course and I have had my own fair share of rucks with them in the distant past, but that does not stop me admiring the way their team now play their football. I know our defense is far from assured but at times yesterday they carved us open and are currently a good benchmark for us as a team. For them to win the youth cup was some achievement! Its good for the region as a whole and anyway it would not be so interesting if we were superior all the time...it will make it much the sweeter when we catch them up on youth culture, style and results under Roeder (which I have a feeling we will). Lets put a stop to the managerial merry go round, cease the incessant slagging of manager and board and get right behind them now as we did Sunday...it seems to make such a positive difference to the confidence of the team...and the upbeat quality of posts on this forum !
  11. My mate is a Newcastle supporter, until recently we worked in Malaysia together and every Friday for years, over a few beers, we used to debate the ups and downs (literally) of our respective teams. He is in his 50''s so seen a manager or two and I learned to respect his views...anyway he emailed me with his take on Roeder and Clark''s appointments; ...so City have taken a risk on Roeder, we have said it all before, he’s good with the kids, needs somebody working above him and cannot control the players. I don’t know the players that are at Norwich but if there is any trouble in the dressing room then Roeder has proved before that he cannot handle that kind of situation and once you have lost the dressing room then it’s all over. Clark is a different case he is very passionate and has done well with the kids at Newcastle but he’s a Geordie through and through and one wonders if he will bring the same kind of commitment to Norwich. He only started coaching two years ago and I know Roeder thinks he can go right to the very top, so perhaps it was too good a chance to turn down. Anyway they seemed to have started off the right way with the drawn in the derby yesterday. I actually think its great that he and Clark are good with the kids, we all know the age of our squad needs addressing (we could take a leaf out of Ipswich''s books here). Regarding his control of the dressing room, my bet is Roeder has learned a lot from his time at Newcastle and will not let the same thing happen again. I think the board and the likes of Dublin could also help him there. If any player is disrespectful or has too much power, then ship them out pronto whoever they are. We currently have nobody we would miss too much so it is a good time to have a clearout of any disruptive influence.
  12. I must have watched a different game...apart from the header to set up the goal he was naff, overweight (just a bit!) slow and his touch was off.
  13. Despite obvious and understandeable bias, some supporters need to realise we are not a large urban conurbation such as London, Birmingham or the North West and whichever way you slice it neither are we a leading club with lots of money. Therefore we cannot attract the best managers or players. Being realistic and objective, we are at best a middle tier club, currently bottom of the Championship with a crop of less than average players; have a fairly clueless board, no money worth mentioning and are sinking quite fast into relative obscurity...lets be honest, not great attractions for any manager! Yet...and this is the crunch...despite all those things Roeder wanted this job...badly enough to call on his phone to ask for an interview. He knows we are a footballing club, have good training facilities and unbelievable support...which tells me he is here for the right reasons...football reasons. And he accepted a less than usual 2.5 year contract. I admire all that. Bruce did not want the job...at least not enough. Jewell ditto, and both would probably only have seen us as a stepping stone. The others in the frame are unproven and all of questionable managerial talent. Bolton and Palace have both done worse in my view...and so will Leicester while they have Mandaric. Roeder has Premiership and European experience and likes his teams to play football (no more hoofball thank god!). He is also respected in the game and has contacts. And you do not get to manage Newcastle United if you are a mug! I think we have done well under the circumstances...he gets my support.
  14. Your source is no good...and Cruel! Oh...and will we trust you next time??
  15. What is wrong wth all you doom and gloomers?...jeez, give the guy a chance! He has the intelligence and potential to be an excellent coach, he has never had the best of luck and maybe just needs the right club. You never know, we might just be that club. At least we will understand what he is saying...and it could have been a lot lot worse!! I predict he will do well.
  16. Yep I remember it too...those were the worst time, this is nothing in comparison to those dark days. I remeber one game with 7000 and Carrow Road seemed like a morgue...we had no message boards to whine on either...
  17. Where is the democracy in football?...why continually put the appointment of managers in the hands of those who have a bad track record of choosing a manager...and seemingly no idea of who, how and why to choose?  Get candidates who want the job to put their credentials and vision for NCFC to supporters on the official website, a one week deadline (this would bring some good candidatesout of the woodwork). Then allow all season ticket holders a postal vote, with all agreeing the winner gets offered the job. Supporter power! We can start a ''realsitic'' vote here on the forum...I will kick off with...Steve Bruce.
  18. I could not believe it when the edp says he is now in frame...please...give us a break...we are hearing about one dross manager after another...we need to go for a ''proven'' manager at the top level, not others cast offs.
  19. The Spurs way was to allow their manager to spend £40m on new players...then sack him a few weeks later. Not my idea of good role models.
  20. I agree...Ron Davies and Hughie Curran were the best I have seen here...
  21. Worth a shout maybe...I think he has a decent manager in him...and with all the jocks we now have?
  22. HaHaHa...nice try...either thats a funny or you need a serious reality check. If you need some help, ask yourself this very simple question; ''Why would he come to a disaster like Norwich when he will very shortly have the pick of top European clubs and earn lots more money?''
  23. Bolton seem to have lost the plot...
