  1. I have read with great interest all the posts regarding protests to remove Worthy. Meetings, words, negative chanting etc etc will not succeed in doing anything except tell the club what they already know...that Worthy is deeply unpopular with a section of supporters (true numbers unknown). The only conceivable method to achieve Worthy''s departure is to hit the club in the pocket by considerable reduced ticket sales (especially season tickets and corporate boxes) and no purchasing of merchandise, hospitality etc. Once reduced weekly income overtakes the equivalent cost of ceasing Worthy''s employment, his services will be dispensed with. Cruel but perhaps necessary...you decide! Of course the city board are supporters and understandably they feel for Worthy, as all compassionate supporters do, but first and foremost they are financially astute business people and once income tumbles they will take action. Are all you Worthy outers, who love to go and watch despite the horror shows, prepared to do this?
  2. Instead of going to London and Selhurst, out of curiosity I went to watch FC United up here today, the offspring club of disgruntled ''post Glazer'' Man Utd fans. They play in the ''Moore and Co Construction Solicitors league Division 2 ''(no less!). The gate was 3159 and the atmosphere was brilliant. Last week they took 4000 away supporters away to the game against Blackpool Mechanics (who?). Amazing dont you think? My point...supporters are the mainstay of any club, the most important voice of all, and if they are ignored, they walk! So make your point at the public meeting in St Andrews Hall. You will be heard!!
  3. Its far simpler than that...we are not good enough!
  4. Great post Yankee....in full agreement...no names, butt 90% of the posts are ''worthless''. The WO''s and the KTF''s are becoming boring. Can we have more variety please folks? I really appreciated the old photos that were posted...thanks guys...what a welcome change.
  5. Great pics...thanks all....ahhhh the memories. We used to get into the river end free at half time, if the game was boring we would play on the grass bank.... until the hooligans used it for battles. Then we found a way to get into the south stand (as it was known then) for free, under a chain link fence at the back and come up under the stand. Anyone else remember that?
  6. The best football i have seen City play was under Walker...but you cant turn the clock back. The game has changed since he left, his open style of play would have us crucified in this division.
  7. ''On the ball City'' seems a bit pointless and sadly ironic at the moment...especially the ''keep it low'' part...
  8. Good point Yankee...is a rudderless ship any worse than one that''s already sinking?
  9. Did i read the match report correctly...did we actually pass the ball today?
  10. Both Chelsea and Liverpool use the long ball game, but as part of a varied strategy. They have good target men in Drogba and Crouch respectively. Norwich used it to some effect with Ashton, but they now only have Thorne. Is he a target man with Earnie and McVeigh feeding from him?. The long ball is okay if not used all the time, defences eat up the regular and hate the variety and unknown. Therefore Worthy should use the long ball occasionally but should intersperse this with the passing game on the ground, open up defences with incisive passing from midfield. At the moment I think the long ball is an easy option for a player low on confidence. For me its not Worthy dictating the long ball game but the lack of confidence and players taking the soft option. The supporters can help by not groaning in unison so easily every time a player makes a bad pass, it happens, lets allow the players to feel their way into a game. At the moment there is too much barracking, any player in the world will make a mistake when that is happening.
  11. Re: the post on supposed thugs harassing the Ipswich supporters...nothing wrong in a bit of serious banter. There was a time when a few of us brave (crazy?) city boys would make it into the North Stand at Portaloo in the days when it was all standing. We would celebrate city goals like no other...and obviously knew abuse and sometimes more would be forthcoming. With Hillsborough and Heysel in mind I definitely do ''not'' advocate a return to those good old bad old terrace days...but the atmosphere at Carrow Road and Portaloo most definitely needs some livening up.
  12. Supposedly the team work hard and pass the ball well in training (Worthy). So how does it go wrong between there and a match?. I suggest lack of match day motivational skills from the management team and poor confidence of players. Is the trick cyclist (psychologist) still working with the team?...I have not heard him mentioned since we starting losing in January. Watching the team against Ipswich some players looked scared of the ball...result...get rid of it as fast as possible i.e. big boot!  I am sure any Sunday team player knows that when you lack confidence it seems all the the skill goes rapidly. But pros should be able to deal with this, if not the answer is to drop them...let them get the confidence back by playing reserve team football. Some players seem undroppable i.e. Greeno (am I the only one who thinks he''s been off form for weeks?) With nowt to play for now, why not bring in some youngsters for the final part of the season, they would be right up for it, it would be a much needed learning curve and at least make it more interesting between now and the end of the season.
  13. Anyone else remember celebrating Norwich goals while stood in the North Stand at Portaloo...now that was abuse! Those were the days...
  14. No Way. Athletes (supposedly) in oversized XXXXL ''no neck'' baggy T Shirts...give mr the tottenham style any day...and how about all yellow...proper canaries.
  15. ...''and Im probably on my own here''...you got that bit right
  16. I watched on Sky as so far away. I have admiration for all who went, Carrow Road sounded like a graveyard.  No wonder, as Norwich were awful and Ipswich were much the better side. It hurts me to say it but all credit to Joe Royle, on a ridiculous budget he gets a young disciplined team to play on the ground, with no fear. We were hoofing it so high I thought the ball would have frost on it when it came down. So much for thinking that when we got Ernie it was going to played to feet. Is this travesty of tactics a result of having a former defender as manager rather than a striker? I dont know, but what will it take to stop this recruitment of journeymen and the high & long ball game? A profound re-think by Worthy or a new manager...someone who is not afraid to blood youngsters (who are coached well) and get the team to keep the ball principally the floor. Lack of confidence is a factor, players scared of the ball, resulting in an anxious crowd...a vicious circle. Youngsters play without fear and supporters are more forgiving of their mistakes. The coaching and the management are at the core of the problem, it looks like the whole coaching set up at the club needs an overhaul, not just the manager, the results throughout the reserves and youth team support this. The football lesson today was a bitter pill to swallow but maybe its just what was needed. A change now would not hurt us too much, we stand very little chance of either the playoffs (would we want them?) or relegation. Give a new coaching team a chance to settle in before next season.
  17. Excellent post Yankee. Most of these guys would most definitely not be managers in the real world. However, for a classic motivator there is no better at the moment than Stuart Pearce at Man City, he is like a breath of fresh air. A team in the Championship definitely needs a leader like him, its probably the toughest league of the lot, trying to balance pretty football and hard work. The recent post match rhetoric from the likes of Worthy and McCarthy saddens me, they are decent blokes most definitely but its not enough these days. If you are successful, then sure you can be laid back, a la Mourinho and Benitez. On discipline, lets face it the vast majority of players these days are over paid, over protected, underworked and spoilt. Remember Clough or our own Ron Saunders? These guys today would''nt know what hit them! I could not believe my eyes when i watched the team, especially Francis, against Fulham last year, their attitude was a disgrace. We need a tough manager to get us out of this league and keep us in the Premiership. Having said all that I actually have a lot of time for Worthy, I met him out in Malaysia and he seemed a decent man and determined to do the best for NCFC, but he needs to show more passion and transmit that to the players and the supporters. Explanation for some bizarre tactics would help. But there may yet be time for him to turn this season round, a change of manager now would be destabilising anyway and for that reason I believe the board will keep Worthy till the end of the season at least. Lets face it, there are not too many alternatives, only a handful of managers can call themselves a success. If he is to be here at least until then, people should get off his back and give all their support (especially Sunday). Raise the roof of the Barclay...like the old days!!
