  1. I will make sure that pat is duly delivered a week on Saturday when we beat Southampton!!!
  2. Someone I know who sits on the front row of the City Stand actually told the lino on our side that he''d better go and speak to the ref about what he''d seen or else he would look very stupid when it was reviewed on the television later that night!!!  Unbelievable, hey?!
  3. You might have lost the plot Normann but I''d love to get to do the post-prarade interviews on the peri track!!!
  4. It''s hard to say exactly where Crystal Palace fit into this as I don''t know everything about them; however, they do have one very wealthy backer (Simon Jordan) and have therefore spent considerably more than us before this season started.  They also had one win against a poor Fulham side (yes I know they have just thrashed Newcastle away) who had a man sent off before ten minutes was on the clock, and this became the springboard for two more as their belief and confidence levels increased.  They also (as I''ve said elsewhere) play 4-5-1 at home and away, which allows them to stifle the opposition in the middle of the park, soak up pressure if needs be, and catch teams on the breakaway using their biggest asset (AJ).  They also have a very astute manager who seems to be a great motivator and very much a club man through-and-through. Looking at just these few observations I really think that the only things that separate us from them at the moment (apart from Simon Jordan''s considerable resources!) is the confidence and belief that comes from winning, and the playing to their strengths, for I''m not sure that we always do as too many of our players seem to play out of position.
  5. At a few inches above five foot I''m a low life anyway, whether I post a lot or not!!!
  6. I don''t care what brand of straws you are using, SPat, but I''m going to cling onto them with every ounce of strength until I can cling on no longer!!!
  7. Last season it seemed as if most teams were really raising their game against us because they wanted to beat the leaders - well, after 21st December they did!  Anyway, it seems to me that we might soon (if not already) be in the same boat but for the opposite reason...no one wants to be the first team to lose to us!  Does anyone think there might be something in this or am I imagining it?  Blackburn with ten men were better than Blackburn with eleven men without a doubt, and I think there was a lot of pride being played for out there by them.  Their effort level seemed to go through the roof and their determination not to lose was there for all to see.  Thoughts anyone?  Could this make our first win even harder than we think it is going to be already?
  8. I might be wrong but weren''t Leicester allowed to go into administration and then given some special dispensation to ''buy'' players who then helped them get back into the Prem?  Doesn''t seem a level playing field does it, but whenever has it been?  As I''ve said before it''s just ruining the game that the gulf between the haves and the have-nots , even just within the Prem, is getting wider and wider.
  9. You are not wrong, gazza.  I''ve just had a quick look at one site that''s been invaded by Binners, Millwall, Palace, Charlton...you name it you can just about find it there.  And don''t think that you''ll actually find much in the way of reasoned debate on a topic vaguely related to football - except from a few die-hard City fans who are trying to bring some sanity to bear - it''s like a dictionary of all the slagging off words and phrases you could ever hope to read against your own team.  No, this board is certainly the best for our fans who want to talk about football - even if we often disagree!
  10. And I guess, gazza, that we''ll soon be on the lookout for another big targetman who can hold the ball up like Iwan used to.  Ahhh - the good old days (?!)  I''m with you on this...no thanks!
  11. Iwan''s character and experience might have been valuable to the team but I really don''t think you would have seen him on the bench let alone the pitch by now.  I guess that Worthy thought it would be in both party''s interests to help him move on while he still wants to play regularly.  For what it''s worth I do think he will return in one capacity or another at some point in the future.  I certainly hope so.
  12. There are two sides to this as far as I can see it.  Supporters pay to watch games and if they think their team has let them down then they are entitled to boo to show their disapproval.  However, if people stop to think about whether, in the long term, this will help the team or not then maybe they wouldn''t do it at all.  Perhaps a deafening silence would have just as much effect without the possible damaging side effects.  Personally I don''t ever boo the team, but on Saturday I didn''t applaud either as there wasn''t much to inspire me to do so.  Still, at the end of the day it is up to the individual to choose their course of action.
  13. So far this season Macca has been mostly good coming off the bench (Saturday excepted) and nowhere near as effective when starting.  I can''t explain why, but it surely doesn''t inspire Worthy to start him!
  14. Very little to disagree with Clint, except perhaps that Jonson is not producing.  I feel he is getting better with every game and deserves his place because of that.  He''s wins a fair bit in the air and is strong when going forward or defending.  He also seems to have a more than decent shot on him when given the ball in the right place.  I have a feeling that there''s much more to come from him yet.
  15. I think many posters on here over the past few days have questioned bringing on Hendo ahead of Mully, Macca or Helveg, especially as we needed to shore up the middle of the park with us continuing to have three more or less up front.  As to possession figures, MOTD had us at 56% and then at 44% (if memory serves me right) so, as ever, there seems to be variation in these figures depending on where you read them.  There are lies, damned lies, and statistics!
  16. For what it''s worth I think we are more likely to get the first win away from Carrow Road as there will be less pressure from the already jittery faithful to turn the players into nervous wrecks...and I don''t buy it for one minute that the players claim it wasn''t nerves yesterday that made them defend so deep after we scored.  There''s no other rational explanation for it that I can see.
  17. Rob, just for your information I think you''ll find Palace have spent about four times the amount we have, and West Brom (whom you don''t mention, admittedly) about 5+ times what we have spent.  (Earnshaw cost them 3.5 million alone, nearly double our spendings on one player).  This won''t probably alter your opinions whatsoever, but I thought you might like to know anyway.
  18. I''m glad I wasn''t the only one who thought Drury had a poor game by his standards.  He was often so far off his man that there was an open invitation to cross, run, pass or do any combination of those three - it was possibly the worst I''ve ever seen him play for us.  I''m not saying he wasn''t trying but perhaps, as has been suggested, he was not fully fit, especially if he hasn''t trained all week.  If he is still struggling in training this coming week perhaps we could give Charlie a go at left back and Shackell in the middle next Saturday?!
  19. BedsCanary - thank you for the voice of reason - one of just a few on here at the moment in my opinion.  A sense of perspective is needed I feel.
  20. Who''s decided we''re going down then?  Has someone actually heard this?  Disappointed may not be a strong enough word to sum up some of the feelings of some posters on here right now but I don''t believe that until mathematically impossible to stay up anyone at the club will be waving white flags or throwing towels on the pitch.  I sincerely hope that the players, manager and coaches show a bit more stickability and fighting spirit than some of us supporters are - and I''m not necessarily including myself in the ''us'' bit!
  21. Worthington out!  I''ve got a bottle of lemonade and I fancy a shandy!!! And if you think that''s a stupid comment to make on this thread then you would be at about the level of thinking of someone, in my opinion, who thinks our manager should go far...and start now...with a one-way ticket.  Yes he''s made mistakes (hands up who hasn''t?) and he must learn from them, but getting rid of him would be reckless and stupid, especially now when we need the stability that many of our rivals at the bottom lack.
  22. I must admit that this was a strange substitution to make at half time.  Facing ten men I felt we needed someone who could spray the ball about and exploit the space and/or someone who could shore up the middle as we were still more or less playing three upfront.  (Mulryne and/or Helveg then).  I just couldn''t see what having Hendo on would gain for us and I''m sorry that it turned out to be as I feared.
  23. I still think there''s a good chance that Mrs Worthy wanted to go Christmas shopping with her husband and that this was the only way to get out of it!!!
  24. Reid would be a great signing but some papers today are reporting that Newcastle are interested in him.  If that''s the case there''s no chance!
  25. According to a report on the Blackburn Rivals site Matt Jansen has torn his cartilage and will be out.  Can we add another nine to this list by Saturday, possibly?
