  1. With two CC games having gone to penalties last night I was just wondering who might, if it comes to that, take penalties for us tonight. I think Hucks would, and Leon (but unlikely to play), so possibly Bents, the two Sweeeeedes, and maybe Damo.  (Macca would if on, but will he make the bench?) Any other thoughts?  Let''s hope we sneak it in normal time though as we aren''t a particularly reknowned penalty-taking side, are we?!
  2. Good post AT.  Rational throughout.  It''s a good job that the players and coaching staff remain focused on doing their jobs ''cos if they read some of the opinions on here, however well intentioned, they might feel like giving up now!  Having seen the footage of the lads at training yesterday (on Anglia News) it is clear that the spirit and togetherness is still there in abundance.  Even Worthy was in hysterics over something...very animated for him.  Whilst it isn''t damaging to feel and express more negativity on a messageboard like this it is going to be so very important that we stick together in our support of the team on the pitch, which I''m sure we will all try hard to do.  The sooner that first win comes the sooner we''ll all begin to feel a bit better, I''m sure of it!
  3. Of course the club has crunched the numbers for next season in the Championship...they would be utterly stupid not to.  I think it''s called planning for the worst case scenario, and, as it''s one of two possibilities for us, they are doing absolutely the right thing for the club''s future.  They will, of course, have also done those sums with another season of the Premiership in mind too, that being the other possibility for next season. I''m sorry if this upsets anyone but I cannot for the life of me see how anyone thinks that the club doesn''t want to stay up.  Of course they all do, from the players and the coaching staff to the bus driver and the tea lady!  It''s where we all want to be and everything possible will be done to make sure that happens, but it has been made clear to us that it will not be done at the expense of the long-term future stability of the club.  Hallelujah for that!  As none of us has a complete and accurate picture of the club''s finances it''s all very well to say we should spend this or that and gamble a bit, but I feel that we are batting with our hearts here (so desperate are we to stay up) rather than with our heads.  I know others of you will not agree, but I''d rather have a club with a solid financial future to support than us risk meltdown next season if we don''t stay up and have to sell most of our best assets just to stay afloat.
  4. KeelansGlove, whilst I cannot disagree with most of the analyses of individuals that you have written here, that''s just it: they are comments about individuals, whereas the question was about whether our team is better than it was last season.  I think it is.  Of course we are playing at a higher level, and it shows.  (If anyone doubts me put on the season review ''Worthy Champions'' or, at the very least, watch a fizzy pop live match.  Chalk and cheese come to mind!)  Yes we''re probably all feeling down about losing on Saturday and will feel that hurt until the much-needed first win actually happens, but there is no doubt in my mind that I''m watching a better quality of football now from us on a regular basis than I was last season.  Whatever the the verdict upon us by next May I would think that bodes well for next season, assuming most of the players stay with us.
  5. Yankee Canary- spot on!  I said, several weeks ago now, that if we are to go down I would rather see us do it really going for it, and with some style, rather than doing it with a whimper and a faint ''cheerio''.  I also asked the question then about how long it might be before we see the more attacking line up that made us so dangerous towards the back end of last season.  Seems I might have my answer, but will Worthy do it again at a stadium somewhere near us real soon?  Hope so!
  6. Better make it six out of nine now then, Ollie!
  7. You might be right that ultimately is won''t be our season, but I''m not going to think like that just yet as there are still plenty of points to play for and we still have to play Southampton, Fulham, Blackburn etc. twice, and Palace and West Brom once more.  Three places to be filled and it looks like a good six or so to fill them.  Still all to play for, and once things start to go for us we''ll all feel so much better.
  8. Disappointed to get nothing - yes.  Ready for a hankie - no!  I have my philosophical hat on, pulled well down to keep my hair dry in all this rain...and, despite the low-key first half performance we showed we were quite evenly matched with them over the 90 minutes.  Ok, the score didn''t reflect that at the end, but we''ve come quite a way since last season, and remember their confidence is sky high, along with their rather surprising position in the table!  It''s going to be a long, hard season, but surely none of us thought it would be any different - not really?  Until mathematically impossible to save ourselves (a long way off yet) we and the players must keep believing.  Positives at the moment for me, compared with a few weeks ago, are that we are creating much more (just need to convert more), aren''t being outclassed by anyone (except for Liverpool and Arsenal so far), and everyone seems to be working as hard as ever for each other.  Worthy''s got a difficult job to keep the morale and confidence going for sure, and work to do to get two halves of equally competitive football out of us, but if anyone''s going to do it I feel he will.  Meanwhile it''s comforting to find ourselves in the company of several other teams who aren''t playing well by all accounts, whereas we generally are, although we have little to show for it I admit. Not time, therefore, to buy shares in Kleenex just yet.  (Pop over to West Brom''s Rivals site if you want to find plenty of fans who appear to have bought them already!)
  9. Binner alert anyone?  Not worth actually replying to the text, I think - so I won''t!
  10. Ooops!  Now I have crocked knees, an infection of the jaw and I''m losing my sight!  Sorry...I failed for some reason to see the longest name in the team and gazza was there!!!  At this rate I will be unable to post on here for much longer as my fingers will probably drop off...so that will be a relief to you all when that happens.  (Can I be the physio and spiritual counsellor if no one else wants the job?)
  11. No female representatives!!!  Where''s gazzathegreat, for example?  I''m sure, if she didn''t want to be on the pitch, she would make a more than willing physio/wet sponge woman!!!!!!
  12. If you extend that to British, swindoncanary, then we had ten out of eleven in the starting line up, and eleven out of the fourteen that played.  Can''t imagine most other teams would come too close to that!
  13. Add Jon Stead to that list a1canary...the best thing since sliced bread last season and not a single goal to his name this season.  Is he rotting in Blackburn''s reserves?  I think not! Leon has done everything except score in the two games he''s started.  He''s been creator as well as on the end of some good chances which - yes - he should have put away...but compare the energy and creativity up front to the Villa game, for example, and I know what I would rather be watching, missed chances or not.  One goal is all it will take to switch on the self belief...oh yes, that and a win!!!
  14. We City fans do and will have a little pop at Meggo because of his record here - but not as a player.  He is well respected by most on that score.  He has certainly got a far better record for you lot than for us as a manager, and yet there are still many of your fans who think he could or should go, and make it soon.  I find that strange as he surely deserves a season to at least try and keep you there...which, incidentally, I think he will.
  15. My god, this Albrechtsen must be quick then! Does he play on the left and the right then?  He will have to to be breathing on Hucks hairdo!!!  The non-mulletted one goes wherever he feels like, but I''ll bet the Danish meister is told exactly where to be and what to do...with bells on!!!
  16. ''Can you hear us, can you hear us, can you hear us Everton? We said ''FAT'' that''s with an ''F'', and on the day that''s all we done!!!''   (To the tune of ''Oh my darlin'', oh my darlin'', oh my darling Clementine...) Will that do - despite the slightly bad grammar in the last line?!
  17. I''ll be honest and say that I really enjoyed last season (who didn''t?), and that I do have moments of feeling a bit down this season...but more about the cynical stuff that surrounds the Premiership rather than the team''s performance.   I only have to look at the fixture list to feel excited about the coming months and the opportunity to pit ourselves against the best other nineteen teams in this country.  I shall remain hopeful until it''s mathematically impossible to stay up, and, if the worst does happen, then I am convinced that we have moved on from last season, and that progress, however quickly it is made, is what it''s all about.  If we can hang on to most of the players we have now, barring those who we realistically will lose, then we could be in for an exciting time next season, whichever division we are in.  (I would like to think that we would hang onto Hucks whatever, but we can''t be sure of that I suppose.)  When I get one of those odd negative thoughts I just remember the dark days of years in the recent past and remember just how very far we have come.  Our club is one to be proud of NOW regardless of where we are come May.
  18. I think you''ll find he''s either on the way to the Midlands or resting in a hotel with the rest of the team, probably fending off comments about his supposed new hairdo!!!
  19. Gazza, I too saw the rotund one''s picture in the Hall of Fame a few weeks ago and muttered something blasphemous under my breath.  Shame I didn''t have a weapon concealed upon me at the time, but a stick of chewing gum would have had little effect I suspect!!
  20. Off the boil Baggie (!) are you sure Robinson will be risked as he isn''t fully match fit yet?  Surely it would make more sense to put Albrechtsen at left back and bring Moore into the centre of defence?   Oh well...I suppose the ginger one knows what he''s doing.  We assumed he did here as well, but never mind!!!
  21. I know we are all entitled to our opinions, and this is only mine.  I hate it when I read some other fans'' one-sided views on us when it seems clear that they know little about what makes us tick...therefore, even though my Baggie colleague tells me bits and pieces about what''s going on there, I don''t think I would even begin to make such comparisons between the two sides, especially as there have been so many changes in personnel - at West Brom in particular, and I do think they are playing in a different way this season from what I''ve seen, although that''s admittedly not too much.  That said, it doesn''t mean others of you shouldn''t say what you think, but beware of sounding just the same as those that you might be criticising.  Whatever happens, let''s hope it''s a good game tomorrow - something that 0-0 last season at FCR wasn''t, if I''m honest.  There seemed to be too much at stake by that point.
  22. I''ve read it Jim!  Good on the Baggies for their replies.  Seems like the blue one has ploughed himself a rather deep furrow!!! Ha! Ha!
  23. It''s been saying that in one form or another ever since the window slammed shut.  Sorry - I''ll believe it when I hear it from an official source, or from Peter...until then it''s just a way of getting people to ring up and spend some money.  (Look at every other club''s page.  Most say the same thing but in slightly different words).
  24. Oh dear...I''ve just remembered Marc Bircham (QPR) and the blue mohican, which he''s recently had done again.  Now that''s a pretty bad one, if you ask me!
  25. Jamie Cureton''s green mop...great sentiment, but yuuukkkk!
