1. We were in for Moritz Volz before Fulham signed him as well.
2.
I would have thought Wiz would have been here by now. [:P]
Didn''t you hear? Him and Smudger have started their protests already and are standing outside the City stand for all to see and join in . . . .
3.
Just an opinion but I actually do see him playing alongside Tetty. That extra strength in the middle of the park should allow us to play Hollahan and Redmond at the same time, something that AN hasn''t always felt able to do.
I don''t see him playing alongside Tettey all of the time, or as normal. Ofcourse I could well be wrong, but if we wanted to play that tactic O''Neil is capable in that position so perhaps would have been tried there by now? Also - OP, I think you have jumped the gun, if you were talking about the summer I would agree, but as you say, with a couple of slots currently spare I suspect we''ll see a couple of additions and then one in one outs, I doubt we''ll see any drastic changes and the obvious department to shed a player would be strikers and then probably only one. I say that because there is little point wholesale changing our squad half way through a season, new players may demand higher wages and we may not be in a position at that point to give them. Plus nothing will be decided by the end of January and mass change could effect the squad spirit etc. Highly doubtful that we''ll see 5-6 changes like that.
4. I don''t think Vardy pulled a fast one. I also think it was an incredibly soft pen. Just two players coming together. Sadly refs don''t look at it logically sometimes. Neither player for me, could be considered in controll of the ball and it wasn''t a case of denying a goal scoring oppertunity. For me the fact Bassong wasn''t booked despite being the last man says it all. That said no one can deny that in open play they could have been further ahead. In some ways, due to the effort in the 2nd half we probably deserved a draw - nothing more. However, for me, this is down to AN not making changes when it was clear they were needed. Vardy is a good player. Pacey and yet niggly and strong. The way he is playing Leicester will be lucky to hold onto him in January/next summer. When you are playing against pace and counter attacking teams. You are best off not giving them all that space in behind. Ask them to find the space rather than give it to them.
5. What I find interesting is that Martin is the one that normally gets highlighted as the weaker CB and yet today, for me, I felt he was stronger. Some massive covering tackles.
6. Now will be the real test of AN. Today we got a bit found out. Leicester did their research. That said when it was changed we looked much sharper. I think Mbokani offers more penetration and variation than Jerome on this showing.
7. At work. Then I read it and roundly thought it wasn''t a bad opinion. I didn''t feel moved to comment on it though. Then you popped up with your snarky remarks and now you are on a big ego trip. Well done for being a bully and making yourself look like a mug.
8. Gopher - take a step back and notice how every one else appears to have interpreted what the chap said as he intended it. Don''t be so bloody minded and pedantic. Also, have an open mind in regards to what some people view a failure as. I agree with most on here. VOO is very much at the end of a rehabilitation from a serious injury, he just needed some competetive, meaningful game time. He''s named in our squad for this season and I''m sure we''ll see more of him. Wisdom is interesting, was he signed as competition or as an understudy? If the first he''s perhaps got a bit of way to go yet, if the latter he''s done ok when called upon. Defenitely good enough going forward, maybe not as good defensively.
9. Actually I think everyone has missed the point including Jose. He was wrong to publicly criticise his medical team for doing what they are trained to do. He effectively blamed them for the team performance in that game. Their job is the wellbeing of the players -as should he as well. If he was that bothered he should have blamed Hazzard for requesting medical help after a nothing much incident when he clearly could have just got up and got on. Generally though the media is cack. Especially tabloids, they''ll print any muck and are not at all representative of this country IMHO.
10. It does matter. If you are smudger we know how much to value what you say. Which is pretty little in fairness. Mainly because you have never been interested in discussion, in listening or being open to other points of view or ever accepting that you are wrong. Others, who deserve more time, can do all of those things or more. I''m not old but I have lived long enough to know people who just want to hear their own opinions and not those of others, are just a waste of time for everyone. What''s worse are the clocks always right once(twice) a day arguments.
11. I''ve always thought he plays a bit like Scott Parker. He''s unnassuming but pops up all over the pitch. He often goes without recognition too. Perhaps because hes not as clearly defending like Tettey or as outright attacking as Hoolahan. He is very much one of our better players. Can mix it up and is prepared to get stuck in but is one of the coolest players on the team with the ball.
12. He''s a defensive midfielder so yes, I''d say direct competition for Tettey. Arguably better with the ball than Tettey too.
13. And Norwich Rugby Club would be relocated to Acle as part of the process.
14. I''d still have him above Elmander, RVW and, to an extent, Hooper. So he is still a better option than the ''premier league'' strikers we had last time out. We should also take note of the fact he is a lone striker and his main role is to hold the ball up and bring other players into the game. As such its more about the team scoring goals and that we are doing.
15. Yes. It depends o the origanal question but he didn''t have to be as complementary about him and he could do that whilst remaining professional and without discrediting him. So a stock answer or just a very plain one. To highlight specific parts of his character/game for praise suggests that Bassong is being sincere IMHO.
16.
"Demarai Gray?" He would be the pick, but he played there one time not three. If AN did really go to the Portaloo three times it can only have been a "Town" player he wanted to see.
Your logic is flawed. As others have already said, it is relatively close in terms of a location to get to see a Championship game. You can insist on it being for a Town player, doesn''t mean it is.
17. Right, well the most obvious thing to do would be to consider when he would have been able to be present for any Ipswich games right? Ipswich at home Aug 11th (Tue) to Stevenage in the league cup. Aug 15th (Sat) to Shef Weds in Champs. Aug 18th (Tue) to Burnley in Champs. Aug 29th (Sat) to Brighton in Champs. Sept 18th (Sat) to Birmingham in Champs. We can therefore rule out; 15th Aug - Away to Sunderland. 29th Aug - away to Southampton the following day. Which leaves you with the Stevenage, Burnley and Birmingham games as the only ones he could have made realistically thinking. I would guess that if this is even remotely true, he is more likely to be looking at Burnley who were Premier League last season and possibly at one or two Birmingham players as well. In fact those two games are more likely than the Stevenage one as they involve two teams that are currently in or around the top 6 in the champs, as well as the scum. So it doesn''t really prove that he was watching Ipswich play at all really.
18.
But Allardyce does love crosses and Jarvis will get crosses into the box.
Not sure about that. I always felt he prefered powerful and direct wingers to link up with a big target man. If you look at his teams down the years, how many have featured good old style feet on the chalk wingers? Not many. It always struck me as an odd fit.
19. Nutty - I believe there was other interest, there defo were plenty of press rumours linking him to other clubs. Mbokani and Mulumbu too. Miggins - if you watch West Ham a lot then you''ll know two things. Firstly he was an odd player in terms of him not really being an Allardice type of player. This was reflected in the fact he was never really seen as a regular first team player. He was brilliant at Wolves and IMHO limited in his play at West Ham due to Allardice preferring tight entrenched football approaches.
20. Three Ipswich sisters lost somewhere in London after getting on the wrong bus, use scarves to hitch a ride home.
21. Looks like I got the Grabban and Mbokani combo right then. Interesting.
22. "quote Barclay seats 48/49 the 3rd" After all this time ,, I still fail to see any value in Grabban''s contribution. I would much prefer to see both lafferty and mbokani get some time on the pitch , maybe one or other is what we need ,,, continually watching Grabban amble around missing sitters has convinced me that he is not . Simply baffled as to what AN sees in training , because it rarely appears during a match day ." This would be why AN is the manager and you are not. That may sound a bit harsh, but this argument has been had time and time again. I believe the last time it came up, the statisticians provided statistics that suggested that whilst Jerome has a better striker ratio in terms of shots resulting in goals, Grabban has more shots. He offers something different, brings players into the game - as someone who has played a lot of his career as a winger, he sometimes finds passes that others may not. So to me, whilst he may not be as prolific, his all round game is pretty decent and he is quicker in acceleration at least, than Jerome. If you fail to see "any value" in what he gives to the team, it''s not his or AN''s fault . . . .
23. I could be really wrong here, but I sort of wonder around a couple of things with Grabban. Thinking about it logically, the best place to re-introduce him onto the pitch after all of the horlix that has gone on recently, is away from home, where the fans are more die-hard and vocally supportive. It could be that a cup game is seen as a better bet to get him running at home as well? Who knows. Mbokani is not that much of an unknown quantity if he is rated highly enough to have been on the bench and get a sub role Vs Bournemouth. It''s more about bedding in and taking on board the ethos of the team and how AN wants him to play. I wonder if he''ll play Grabban in the Hoolahan role?
24. I would really suggest that people have a good read of what they write sometimes! Your dad suggesting him as a transfer target, in 2009, when we had been relegated to League 1 - not really likely was it? A team playing regularly in the Europa League etc. Especially if he turned down other, higher placed teams, to develop further there. I doubt that even then, he would have gone anywhere other than to a team with decent aspirations in a top tier. Oh, and my favourite goal was the scissor kick. Got to be one of the best examples of it that I have seen.
