1.
Very very suspicious of this article Don''t know how much of this was in the public domain. Looks like Stowmarket Duo spin from their Minister of Information
I love stuff like this. What do you mean "Don''t know how much of this was in the public domain."? Peter Cullum went to the papers and explained his offer from what I can remember so no surprise there - and at the time I remember people such as Purple on here pulling it apart. Annual Financial Reports - are available every year and are not open to interpretation in terms of transfer money in and out and wage bill. Pretty black and white. The bank loans bit with Bowkett was also pretty available information I believe - not least because for the two seasons in the prem they hammered on about it and then jumped up and down with joy when it was achieved. So what is there left to spin? I mean for someone so supportive of Delia and MWJ wouldn''t he say we''d be hard pushed to find better owners? That the fans should stop demanding more etc? He doesn''t. I for one believe what he has written - whether there is more, in terms of offers etc, that he doesn''t know about is another thing. But we have known that our club is less favoured compared to others in terms of geographical location for quite some time. That is not something new at all. For all my time supporting Norwich I can remember us losing out on players because they''d prefer other locations.
2. Personally, as a player at amateur level, sometimes those on the side lines can see things happening that you can''t. I don''t mind input from the manager on the side as long as it is constructive, clear and not berating. I have played under both styles and I would say they both have their pro''s and cons. For example, sometimes it can be a lonely place on that pitch and your managers voice can pick you up and keep you going, much like a captain''s or another vocal player''s voice can. Also, at times when a team may be panicking a little, or unsettled for whatever reason that voice again can steady the ship. Plus, if the manager wants to make changes in tactics, personally, whispers or pieces of paper are a complete waste of time and can take too long to implement. At the same time, sometimes you just need an arm around your shoulder - some reassurance when you are doubting yourself. Or in some cases just left to get on. Either way - I disagree that there is a right way or a wrong way in terms of approach. With the manager it has to be about the right way with the team in front of you. Perhaps like Lambert was able to succeed with us but hasn''t seen the same level of success elsewhere. I think the best managers do both. They recognise the time to be vocal and the time to be less animated. Koeman, Wenger etc, all seem to be able to do this.
3. Makes me laugh. Apparently the two best central defenders at the club are Bennett and Klose. This means if Martin is on the pitch the goals we concede are his fault. Despite both having involved headers from players he wasn''t marking whilst having our two best defenders at CB. Also worth noting some folk on twatter were suggesting that Bennett should start because he is much better in the air. When you defend a set piece it''s a team effort. If a player doesn''t go with his man then you can point the finger. For me though, I am not convinced by McGovern, he lacks height, strength and physicality on Ruddy and really struggled to come out and make any of those highballs, other than a couple, into his six yard box his.
4. Thing is chaps, Lambert didn''t stay, he didn''t want to stay the season we went up. He also hasn''t achieved anymore than he did after he left us in all honesty. And in most cases, neither have any of his former players other than the ones that stayed here, bar perhaps Surman. Other than that, the likes of Jackson, Ward, Whitbread, Tierney, Morison etc have all failed to better their time under Lambert with us. Pilkington was great for us. We managed to sell him for half what we paid for him I believe (signed him for £2million, sold him to Cardiff for £1million). Looking at the players we have had since and we have now, I''m not that bothered. I did think we should have hung on to him at the time but then, as others say, he had had a fair few injuries and it wasn''t that big a shock.
5. So this report is actually a "sexed up" effectively blog entry that is presented like a journalistic piece for an amateur website based upon another article originally in a different language translated most likely by google translate. Not anywhere does he say he is unhappy at Norwich. Simply states that the national team manager would like him to be playing at the highest level possible, teams came in and made offers. He is frustrated at the situation but - at least appears to, respect Norwich''s position in terms of his contract (2019). He then states he is happy to be at Norwich and has enjoyed the support from the fans and the time he has had with us so far and will look for that to continue. No unhappy with us, no angry with us. Just bullshit spin to try and spark more stupid reactions.
6. I actually think Moxey''s one in one out and mention of funds isn''t very clear. Is he talking funds for purchasing or funds for wages? Also if Oliviera cost £5mil and we only had £11/12 when after McCormack then I can understand it left us needing a sale to be able to buy in someone like Rhodes. This leaves more questions such as when purchasing Oliviera were they doing so because they were confident or not confident of moving players on? It does just lead to more questions I doubt we''ll get any answers to. That said I don''t think our squad is in too bad a shape. I still think that our defense is one of the best in the league. Better than Villa. Midfield isn''t too shabby either.
7. There is an interesting theory from some though. Lambert did well with us. But he had a very specific team around him that he has not had since then really. Karsa and Culverhouse - Lambert has failed to emulate his success with us anywhere else without those two.
8. Bruce - simply because his reccord is better. I also dont think he is limited at all. His teams are often a blend of picks from lower leagues whilst throwing in quality from higher up. He does well with youngsters and tends to do very well in the transfer market. If you look what he did to transform Wigan then you''d have to say he transformed them. He is a good motivator of players and would know Brady and Jerome from spells as their manager.
9. Re Local Media being soft - Butler certainly isn''t and rarely holds punches but he doesn''t tend to speak directly to anyone. Adams was harsh about Roeder at the time and was dismissed from his coaching role at the club for it. Luckily he was reinstated and coached the youth team to FA cup glory. There are instances of it. Just not all of the time. I like to think that most of them are quite level headed. Paddy Davitt doesn''t pull punches either.
10. You don''t have to go very far to find out about Lafferty''s off the field antics - I''m not surprised he is unprofessional on twitter, I felt he was in front of the camera at the Euro''s as well. Talking of the Euro''s, he was crap. He''s got a reputation for scoring at international level - and I''m sick of hearing it from fans and pundits alike. Who did they play in their qualifiers? Faroe Islands, Finland, Greece, Hungary and Romania. Now, Romania and Greece have been good in the past, but you are talking ten years ago at least. Very different beasts now. The other teams are far from quality laden either. So he has a reputation in some eyes based upon scoring at international level against pretty poor opposition. That''s not to say he isn''t good enough. But I suspect he isn''t putting in the hard work off the pitch that would see him started. Personally, if that''s the case then surely Morris would have been as good a shout as any. Tell him to get on that pitch and bruise the Brum defense. Which is another point, how long was Laffs at Brum and how many games did he start? They clearly still want him right? If we are genuinely interested in Gunnarson, why not offer some sort of trade? I think we could do with another physical presence in midfield. Allow Howson to be more attacking and to offer competition to Tettey? Would mean we have Howson and Dorrans who are ball players first and foremost, then Tettey, Gunnarson and Mulumbu.
11.
I think our start to the season has really helped us here - Realistically the clubs likely to bid for Brady are the likes of Hull, Burnley, Palace etc who will almost certainly spend most of the season at the wrong end of the Premier League; I suspect the prospect of a promotion fight with us is more attractive than a second straight season of relegation battles with one of them. You only have to look at Newcastle and Villa, who haven''t had the greatest start to life at this level and have each seen several players head for the exit door in the past 10 days. We''ve looked good and we''ve not seen that happen. Unless a silly money bid comes in or Leicester revive their interest in Brady, I think they''ll stay.
I agree, worth noting that it would be Brady''s third relegation fight in a row. Perhaps he too wants better than that?
12. Well overpriced and overpaid IMHO. And it''s defenitely about money. If he had asperations to play more regularly for his country he could have come here to play with other regulars and stand a better chance at that too. Also the £10million offer rumour is a red herring. That was a good week or so before the transfer happened and was a tabloid rumour that said something close to: "Norwich have put two bids in for McCormack, both rejected and one believed to be of £10million." This was on a Friday I think because Neil was asked about it after the game following that and said that talks were at an advanced stage as Fulham were no longer rejecting offers and were engagedin dialogue instead. That to me suggests we had offered more than £10million. Also, with Villa''s owner bleating on about it on twitter for a while before it was resolved I still believe that it was Fulham playing crafty buggers. As in a bidding war and it would seem player sales at Villa may have had a part to play, that or it was just coincidental.
13.
Showed at Boro he has a lot of talent. They looked half the team while he was out injured than they did with him. Like Pritchard he suffered by not having regular football last season. Think if he was given a run of games at Burnley he could go on to prove himself as a Premier League footballer much in the same way Kane did with Tottenham after a run of poorer performances whilst out on loan.
He''s had one good season - two seasons ago. And yet if he was that good and that highly rated for it why have Borough not gone for him? You would have thought they would again last season at least, if not this summer maybe? I think he''s overated by manyon here. Personally I think he struggles physically and needs to learn to bustle and ''Holt'' it a bit more.
14. Sterling Vs Redmond. Sterling is the better player but has questionable mentality and attitude. Redmond isn''t as good as Sterling yet hence his lower price. But he has the better mentality and attitude. Could be a case of Redmond being one of those players that really flourishes from 24 onwards and Sterling is an early peaker.
15. Sometimes that is the way, just like some players only seem to score for one club. Look at Holt for example, outside of his seasons with us, he could hardly be called prolific at a high level and his career had led him to all sorts of clubs. He''s failed to reproduce it since, although best of luck to him for this season. Cureton is another who had two bites of the cherry and despite his goalscoring form prior to his return, he also couldn''t replicate here. I do wonder how much a lot of a players form is related to the surroundings they are in at the time. I mean some players seem to be able to do it anywhere, but look at the likes of Diego Forlan, struggled at Man Utd, just as Fernando Torres seems to have done well anywhere but Chelsea.
16. PS - spot quiz for a brownie point. There is an odd one out in the above.
17. Yeah but you know what will happen. He''ll sign, and the usual suspects will come out and say he has only signed for a fist full of dollars. And the add ons, for a few dollars more perhaps? Then he''ll score and everyone will be saying he''s good, then he''ll go on a dry run and he''ll be bad. It''ll also leave us without a handsome striker, my wife says he''s ugly. But you never know, he could just be a fist full of dynamite.
18. Two things worth noting. Canos is relaxed, he''s 19 and just madea £2.5million move to a club that wants him. He''s got a couple of years on the Murphy''s so has the time to develop. I suspect that both Murphy''s know this could be their make or break season. They know that their best shot at top flight football right now is to perform for us, play well, get new contracts etc. They are under so much more pressure. People need to give them a chance and get behind them. At 21 they are still young but now is their time to push on.
19.
Not a lot of attacking options on that bench in case we need it. Hopefully the starting 11 will wrap it up
I dunno, Lafferty, Canos and Morris . . . .
20. My thoughts precisely Feedthewolf. We could even give them Turner as well, to pull the cart we send him down there on . . . .
21. Welcome to the world of football transfers people. It''s full of fun and games that only the agents really enjoy. The Forrest Chairman coming out and saying that he is not for sale was a little while back when the speculation first hit the news. But that doesn''t mean he''s not for sale. That''s like a public warning to whoever may be interested that their last bid wasn''t good enough . . . . More interesting if a more recent quote suggests that things may have progressed since then. The delay could be a number of things - the most likely is that they will need a replacement for him and are possibly lining one up. That tends to be the main issue. Especially at this point in the window.
22.
Does anyone seriously believe booing or not will affect his decision as to join us or not? The money and how we can help him to develop as a player will be more important to him.
It very much depends, but on a young man, from abroad, at the start of his professional career who realistically knows he has a fair few mistakes to make before he is the more complete article - yes, I would say it does. Someone a tad older who has seen it and experienced it already - maybe not. I think it is incredibly naive to think that if a prospective player turns up to see a game to help him experience the so called "atmosphere" and a full stadium to convince him, then witnesses an acidic atmosphere of vitriol directed at the club by the fans, I would think it would make them think twice. There have been various examples at different clubs over the years of this happening. You wouldn''t want to sign for an unsettled club. I''m not saying that yesterday was so bad to be classed as this. But I do think it could impact negatively, definitely, especially on such a young player.
23. How the actual feck is booing making anything clear to anyone other than you are not happy? I''ll tell you something for nothing, it isn''t. The players wouldn''t have known and it would appear several of the booers had differsnt reasons for booing.
24. It isnt the bottom line. An alternative striker "may" have made a difference, but that also largely discredits an incredibly well organised Wednesday defense. And also ignores the sparsity of actual oppertunities to score from. In fact I would go as far as saying that unless that new striker could take a decent corner it''s doubtful we''d have got a lot more than a draw, although we may have been more comfortable about it. But again its opinion, and again, we got a draw against last seasons play off finalists who wanted to impress they intend to go for it again this season. It''s just more naivety to me. Expecting to win every game and when we don''t it''s because of the board and "that" player that we can''t name, because we don''t know who, but he would have won it for us. As for the buck stops with the board - that''d be ok if you knew fore sure that the other parts of the club had done their job to pass the buck on. You don''t know. So it''s easiest to go the brainless direction and boo in no particular direction at the end of a game. And you think it doesn''t matter, if a player doesn''t like it they can go?!!! And then moan that we haven''t signed anyone and need more squad depth?!! The hypocracy stands out a mile. I want our team to be the best it possibly can be, as much as anyone else but if a player visits for a game and is unimpressed by idiotic booing and decides to sign for a rival and helps them get promoted rather than us, do I get to round you lot up and boo aggressively/discontentedly at you along with anyone else that feels frustrated at your actions?
25.

In your opinion Ricardo, we should never have lost the midfield! Naismith should have gone for Mulumbu in my opinion.
My opinion coincides with AN''s.I rest my case.
Not only that but Jerome was struggling - taken off with a slight injury. This just underlines why I don''t support these boos. Uninformed, naive and ill thought. People angry at the board - why? Is it the boards job to identify players? If anything they have been prepared to pay out the money. So is it the scouts? Or is is the footballing committee failing to convince players they want to play here? But you know, it''s far easier to blame the board and boo at the end of a game where some players may still be deciding to stay or not and whilst we have potential new signings in the stands . . . . Idiotic.
