His role is pretty all encompassing, overseeing all aspects of the academy and youth development. From getting young players into the building right through to transitioning them into the first team or selling/loaning them out (alongside the SD/loans manager) and everything in between.

Big role to replace and one that is important for Knapper to get right. Wonder if this change is to do with Knapper wanting to change things or it's just his time to move on. Probably the latter based on comments from ZW in the article.

He's basically Webber's man (worked with him at Wolves, Huddersfield, Norwich) so will presumably follow him to his next club wherever that might be.

  2. I think may forget the impact Barnes has on Sargent's game. Sargent is 10x more effective playing alongside a target man rather than being the sole target made himself. As pointed above, it also supplements Sara's game.

Tough one though as Barnes first touch is poor and whilst good enough for our current position, if we want to progress we need to replace him with better.

  3. I thought McCallum had the proverbial game of two halves yesterday:

1st Half = Woeful. He was constantly backing off allowing the cross, not closing down and generally had a torrid time.

2nd Half = Superb. He was much more aggressive, good positioning, and made a goal-line clearance (may have gone wide).

That sums him up as a player really, he's a very decent back-up to have at this level or first team starter for a mid-table side but if we want to progress we need to bring in another starter for Dimi.

If it's available, I always try to catch the Canary TV stream, even though the results score wise have made it pretty poor value for the tenner charged. I have found it to be a good and reliable service;  particularly when you add in the Radio Norfolk commentary.

Not all of us can afford, or be bothered  to get a Sky subscription, so that forces us into illegal streams, if we don't want to follow the match on the BBC or club text service.

Pretty poor attitude by the EFL in my opinion.

If you're willing to spend £10 just for 1 x Norwich match, then I highly recommend you look at Now TV. You can get all the Sky Sports channels on a month by month basis.

    RRP: £34.99

    Actual: £17-26

See above for cost of Now TV Sky Sports, you can nearly always pick it up for £26 or less a month and for this you get all the Premier League Sky Sports games as well as, as of next season, 5 games every weekend from the Championship, and then there is the bonus of the Golf, F1, Tennis, Darts, etc. should you like any other sport. As it's month-by-month, also no commitment needed. Well worth the money compared to other subscription services like Virgin or indeed Sky themselves.

  5. On the presumption that Dimi is on much higher wages than McCallum then I would keep the later as back-up and let Dimi go. Dimi is the slightly better all round player but not to justify the likely higher wages.

So, let Dimi go, give McCallum an extra 2 years (he's decent enough back-up for a top-6 champ side) and sign a 1st choice LB in the summer. Preferably one that can defend/has an all round game for this level, i.e. a Jack Stacey for the left. Fullbacks don't have to be flash at this level, a steady Eddy (Marc Edworthy) or Adam Drury fits the bill.

  6. It's no coincidence that Saka, Martinelli, Gabriel (All Arsenal) have pulled out of today's England vs Brazil match 'injured' ahead of Arsenal vs Man City next weekend. It's a ridiculous time to have International matches.

It's in the benefit of just about everybody for the season to have a 4-week break in November time, hold all the International qualifiers during this period (almost like a mini-tournament) and then the tournaments themselves in June/July. Scrapping the March and September International breaks and merging the October and November periods into one.

He said the atmosphere is terrible. The main reason really is most of us don't want to go up because of the past. This squad gets destroyed in the prem,  so what's the point. Some will say we get the Premier league money,  but unfortunately under Delia and Michael we can't afford to buy any premier league quality players, not their fault before people pile in. So what are we there for? To be entertained and win some games but not want to go up. Personally after 50 years of supporting the club I have never know my feelings to be such a mess where the club is concerned. And it all still comes back to what is the plan,  the take over can't come quick enough. Again we are arguing over the more vocal fans , but we keep over looking the 3 stands that seem to sit in silence. What do all you as fans want from this season and where do you see us going forward?

Completely agree with all of this. We're haunted by the past. If Wagner's reign and same results/style came before Farke, 99% of the fans would be happy as we have a shot of promotion. However, we've played miles better football under Farke and had much better quality and still got thumped when promoted.

The gap is simply too big. Look at the bottom 3/4 of the EPL and the top 3 of the Championship this year as firm evidence.

I actually thought last night the lineup and subs were pretty much spot on. I'm not a huge Wagner fan, but credit where it's due.

Yet despite picking a good starting XI and making good use of the subs, it still wasn't a great performance, which I suppose is worrying.

Agreed. I would wager this is 80% of fans thoughts.

  9. I'd like us to play a 4-3-3 with a new DM loaned from somewhere. Mclean looks very competent as a CB and helps us play out from the back. He doesn't offer much more playing in CM so adds more benefit to the team playing CB.

All season this and last, our midfield has been the Achilles heel, by proxy inviting too much pressure onto the defence. We're crying out for a proper DM. For now we may as well put Sorenson in there over other options but I don't see him as the long-term fix.

                        Gunn

    Stacey  Duffy   Mclean   Giann

         Nunez   NEW DM  Sara

         Rowe     Sargent    Borja

  10. The squad we had in the Premier League 2nd time around was League One standard then with a few Championship level players. It was a minor miracle we didn't get relegated with the worst ever points total that season.

That said, this league (Championship) is also escapable with an average squad if a manager has a plan and half an idea to play pressing football, see Sheffield United and their squad last year.

This is an average to below squad with an average to below manager.

  11. Southampton want him to play against us before he moves. JWP wants a chance to say bye to the fans (been at Saints all his life, through the academy, etc.).

West Ham understandably don't want to run the risk of him getting injured.

    Two ways out here:

    1) He doesn't play but waves goodbye pre-match or half-time.

    2) He does play, but West Ham insert some sort of compensation fee if he get's injured.

I don't agree. All three sides coming down have much stronger squads than us, watford and Burnley did.

Then on top of that, us, Watford, WBA, Middlesbrough are all still in the division.

It's much, much stronger than last year on paper.

Watford - Equally as mediocre squad as ourselves. Lost Sarr and Pedro and signed Jake Livermore and Tom Ince. Behind the scenes the club is a mess to boot.

    West Brom - See Watford.

Middlesbrough - Decent side with a decent manager, expect them to be challenging as they were last year.

People tend to overate the three teams coming down from the Premier League. Yes, they have more money to spend than most of the other teams in the league but that's largely as a result of selling their crown jewels. Not forgetting, even with their respective 'crown jewels' they were still the three worst sides in their league the year before.

Leeds - Have you seen how many players they have lost? and not to decent fees either, alot of loans out to cover the wages and that's with a squad that was incredibly porous last year. Farke was a decent appointment but has a job on his hands.

Leicester - Perhaps the best equipped for me but have gambled on their manager and the signing of Harry Winks is poor for me. I like the Coady buy but he'll be injured at the start. Lost Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans amongst others.

Southampton - The worst side in the league last year. Likely to lose their two best players, i.e. Lavia and JWP. Russel Martin is an understandable appointment and I think they'll be up there but certainly nothing to fear.

Whilst I do agree the league will be stronger this year than last, there are two major caveats to that:

    1) The Championship last year was the worst I can ever remember in terms of team quality and individual player quality. It was impossible to get weaker.

    2) As stated above, make no mistake, this league is wide open for a Sunderland, 'Boro, etc. to take and why not Ipswich? Look at Sunderland last year as I said, look at Luton last year.

I obviously don't want Ipswich to go up and the expense of us (I appreciate I'm one of the very few that would like to see both clubs in the top league competing for the derby each year).

  13. Take away loyalties and there is no reason why Ipswich can't finish Top 6 this year - there is little difference between them and Sunderland 12 months ago (who then went on to have their main player and striker injured for the majority of the season and still finished Top 6).

This league is dire. The three teams coming down; Leeds/Leicester/Saints will be similar to Burnley/Watford/Norwich 12 months back.

    It's anyone's league once more.

  14. We'll be a better team unit this year with the likes of Barnes, Duffy, and Stacey - it's just so boring to watch.

We've been very lucky in the past 20 years or so, that we've always had a No. 10 or creative player to enjoy and hence the excitement of watching football. Some might argue it's the 'Norwich way' to have this type of player and play this type of football.

We'll be fine this season, we won't get relegated but it'll be another slog of a season to watch I fear.

  15. That's superb and don't underate the level of skill required to do that piece. The shading on Fashanu's face for example or the vein on his arm.

I was sad to see the Farke piece of work go but this is a great replacement. I'd personally like to see a mural of different legends behind him, a bit like the Brickmakers wall display which has legendary musicians.

We have so little creativity in this side - it’s going to be a long season unless we get that chequebook out soon

    Almost like we're missing:

    1) No. 10 to create

    2) No. 6 to hold the midfield

We look exactly the same as last season. The only difference is the supporters expectations level now align with the squad we have. It'll be mid-season this year (anything between 10th-18th).

  17. Frank Lampard is extremely smart academically, achieving 12 A/A*'s at GCSE Level (in contrast to Steven Gerrard's 1 x C, 6 x D's, and 2 x E's) which explains why Lampard might come across well in interviews, unfortunately intellect alone doesn't always align with great managerial/coaching skills in football.

Edit: His IQ has been measured at 'well over 150', put into context the average IQ is 100, with Einstein's in the 160 range.
