    Jamal Lewis

Another team may allow for him to play his natural game more because they have a defensive strategy and players capable of covering his runs forward. I think as a previous post noted, how is it with all this young 'talked about' talent, that we find ourselvesstruggling? And that may be it, may be these players fitted in a team where they are not all young promising footballers, but seasoned premier League players can allow them to flourish. I am not saying our players are not flourishing, because that certainly isn't the case. But I do also note that they will eventually move to clubs where they will join seasoned pros who have played many games in the prem.
  2. Players have windows, look at Oliveira and the money reportedly we could have sold him for. We didn't and we had a situation that cost us £££ but also around the club we had a disgruntled player. Grabban as well had proposed interest with Bournemouth, we declined and had a bad egg. Look at the Murphy's and then JM and his move to Leicester. That injury almost cost us and some players never come back the same. There will always be disgruntled players who want playing time etc but here we have exciting young players who are rightly getting attention. If there is no offer or enquiry this window it is because clubs can wait till the Summer and again play hardball knowing that we aren't going to keep hold of all of them. If a cracking offer was to come in now for Aaron's, he would be the only one we have top cover for, with the excellent Byram. However we would still need full back help in a new addition. The club no doubt is planning, we have Cantwell, Godfrey, Lewis, Aaron's, Pukki and Buendia who will all have speculation. In years gone past it has been 1 or 2 players but all 6 starters will be touted with moves. So enjoy it now, as we did last season. It does beg the question if an offer came in we liked would we sell 1 knowing that £££ can be reinvested in 2 players who can help the team right now and next season. I don't think it will happen but if we do go down we will have 6 players that rightly will be touted with moves away that in an ideal world we could sell over a few windows. Of course if we stay up, the wages and premiership football is still there but the big teams will still have a lot of clout as our model would dramatically change and if Leeds and West Brom came up then I am sure we would have the smallest summer transfer spend again. Which of course makes battling for premiership status harder. We may be bottom of the table but I can't think of a team in this position with so many players being touted with moves from a starting 11
  3. Sorry but when I do go to a game, I will stand up when exciting play takes over. It is a natural reaction rather than sitting. I do also stand up when we have had an foul against us or called against us. I will stand if we the players need encouragement when we have had our backs against the walls. No idea what you mean about if people gave more thought. Should I ask for permission or swap seats so you can stay rooted to your seat. Sport is exciting and I love that we stand up when it is exciting. So I will write to the club congratulating them on giving us to stand up for over the last season.

    Ricardo's report v Arsenal

Amadou showed great promise and was, for me, the better of the 2 central midfielders today. It will be interesting, will it be tettey and Amadou, Tettey and Trybull or Amadou and Trybull? Byram is proving why when he was at Leeds he was being talked about so highly. The feeling should be that we could have got more and this team has settled a bit. Bring on soton and let's begin to turn the screw!!

    Team for Arsenal?

Finally Amadou in his rightful place. Certainly difficult to judge on this one performance but if Sevilla and captaining his side in France is anything to go by we have a player. I hope he is now one of the first names on the team sheet and he makes this position his own.

    Buendia

Flipping love Emi, i have not seen a player with his ability, tenacity at 22 look so comfortable. Do you know what he is going to get better Somehow he is still top of the assists chart without a lack of goals We have players in our team who have reached their peak or they have got that extra few % as the team has been good. Emi is already one of our best players and his top level is still ahead for him with the right guidance and group around him

Damn 12 players, well tettey needs to come out as we need cover at the back so our fullbacks can go forward

    Team for Everton

Well if Hanley is ahead of Zimmerman in regard to availability I would play Krul Byram, Hanley, Godfrey Aarons Lewis Amadou, Leitner, Tettey Buendia Hernandez Pukki If zimbo is getting fit get him practising in this set up and then replace Hanley for the next game. Have Stieps ready to change the midfield if Pukki is isolated or maybe Vrancic in that further foward position/ in replace of Leitner. But be aware that Leitner can move us from the back third of the pitch with composure and we need that now. --- Lets be hard to beat early and allow these fullbacks forward to create chances that we know we can. Byram and Godfrey have pace to cover with Amadou and Tettey hopefully bullying the midfield may mean Leitner has a bit more time. The midfield then is much tougher with two DMs in there and the attacking players who excelled last season have a bit more of a free licence to move forward It is a change in formation but we know we need cover at the back and we also need to play to our strengths, well this allows our full backs to play wide with creative midfielders and Pukki ready to pounce.

    Famewo new contract

Agreed and felt it for a long time Give Amadou a chance to boost his confidence and play in a position where he can show us why Sevilla bought him and why he was captain at Lille. He has to play DM and have a better midfield shielding our defence. As said earlier Trybull was bypassed throughout the whole game on Saturday. So hope changes happen that allow Amadou in his rightful position.

    Steipermann

I agree with the above. I also agree that even with being able to compete I was hoping for 17th and saw it as being optimistic. With players coming back it can lift spirits, so hopefully this can be the case. I do believe a shift in the team is needed. Amadou is a CDM and I think we need to see him now in that position. If our midfield can shield our defence we may have some joy. We need our midfield at its strongest and our attack at its strongest. At the moment we are switching our midfield around trying to find the right mix. I say solid defensive midfielders in place to cover our expansive players Krul Aarons, Byram, Godfrey, Lewis Amadou Tettey Buendia Marco Onel Pukki I could see three at the back with Famewo allowing Aaron and Lewis to be true wing backs with Marco moving out of the team with Buendia and hernandez coming inside a bit. But the above seems very viable with Byram at centre half. This team allows us to still play our way, buendia and hernandez may be asked to make themselves available a little deeper. Amadou and tettey have to show they can get us going. I think now Farke has to look at a strong midfield to protect our weakened defence. Let's see Amadou in his best position and prove his worth. He has the pedigree so let's not damage his skill set and confidence. Get him where he can make a difference.

    Godfrey injury update

It is cracking news. I do wonder if a team like this could get the results in Krul Aarons, Amadou, Godfrey, Lewis Tettey Trybull Buendia Vrancic Cantwell/ Onel Pukki Just think we would have defensive cover allowing our fullbacks to go forward, grit in the middle and playing the ball to our creative and dead ball specialist Vrancic. I recall in the first half of the season Vrancic would come on for Leitner and set up a fair few goals and of course the last third of the season he was outstanding. It would allow our midfield creative 'magicians' confidence knowing that any mistake is going to have hard hitting defensive midfielders behind them. Just a thought, it does mean all defensive midfielders are on the pitch but they could allow us a bit of a safety blanket. I do tend to think it is very unlikely but I could see it working quite well. Be great to see Vrancic get some time soon, when he is fully fit.

    Team for Bournmouth

So for me we can play a stronger defensive midfield unit which could relieve pressure on the back four. I want to see Amado in that CDM ASAP and feel our injuries do me you could see him play centre half with AT and TT returning. But I think we need this player in his preferred position alongside Lwitner We need to start winning the midfield and Amado will naturally sit deeper protecting our young defence. So I would be happy with Famewo for this game, there is no pressure. Krul Aaron, Famewo, Godfrey, Lewis Amadou, leitner Buendia, Marco, Todd Pukki Byram, tettey, vrancic, drmic, onel and mcgovern on the bench I can see why TT/AT could be brought in with Amado staying at centre half. But I want to build that midfield that is so important for this season. I think thus is a game however when pukka needs the players around him to play a stormer, let's play at Bournemouth. Test them Either way it could be an exciting game.

Suck it up, grow some b*lls and get over it.

In the summer we all knew the key player we needed was the upgrade in the defensive midfield position. We brought in players on the outside, right back, attacking players (who can play wide), goalkeeper and finally Amadou. That was the key signing, but probably another centre half or combative midfielder would be needed in an ideal world. We have then found the core or spine of our team Decimated. It was the area we knew that was so important, why did we know? Well as NCFC fans we have seen over the years in the premiership our weakness in the centre half position and defensive midfield have cost us. We are needed bite, grit, strength etc. We know what you need as character and strength to compete in this league. So with our squad decimated in the middle there is no surprise that we are struggling. I just feel for the guys as confidence is certainly being tested, it is not as if our first 11 are not showing themselves to be good enough, we haven't seen our first 11 this year. We need to get through to when injured players come back in and potentially a slight change in system to accommodate our current group. We are under dogs in every game but we are the walking wounded
  14. With the 4 games, Burnley, palace, villa and Bournemouth, I really did not expect us to do it at Burnley. We knew we had to be at it against a physical team and tbh we did what we have done against teams of that strength. Palace is the game where I can actually see the match up in players, style and formation where we hold an advantage. Villa will be on us straight away and as always beat the teams that come up with you and you can help move yourself out of trouble. Bournemouth I would expect them to use the guile as Burnley have tbh. So this easier stretch is not as easy as you may think. For Burnley we had to be at the races and we will, as farke said, learn a great real from this result. At home we will be more prepared for them. Shame as if we had the physicality we could get points with the great style we have but it was a game I felt we would fall short in. Palace was that away game that I felt we would get our first away win with. So hopefully we can move on quickly and get prepared for this 1 with a new energy.

    Team for Man City (h)

It's interesting as at the start of the season I have thought a 3-5-2 could have worked, with maybe a line up like the below as a plan b Krul Zimbo, klose, Godfrey Aarons, Buendia, Amadou, Vrancic, Lewis Drmic, Pukki We still have the wide full backs but maybe more defensive strength and with so many midfielders such as Trybull, McLean and leitner all able to slide in to the formation. But of course this was really only in extreme circumstances. With the international break it does allow a bit of recentering and focusing on what has been good so far and where we have already improved. But of course it also allows time to reassess strategies and personnel's assignments. For me I think against man city we need our technical players to use the ball very well when further up the pitch but we also need to keep to assignments and strategies. For me - Krul Aarons, Zimbo, Godfrey, Lewis Buendia, Trybull, Amadou, Leitner, Cantwell Pukki Yes, tough on Marco but we need more personnel deeper than his normal position to disrupt, track runs and close down gaps that will appear if we go forward. Buendia and Cantwell will then need to really excel in their technical ability in using the ball at the highest level to give us opportunities. Either way it will be another great test but hopefully the break has come at the right time, reassess, get injury reports and begin with a new energy.

    Pub(s) for saturday?

Family are from just outside Skibbereen and I think the extended family reunion is next April back in Skibbereen. I would tell anyone to go to the FW bar, amazing brewery.

    Pub(s) for saturday?

I used to be a rep for Franciscan Wells door about 18months in London. Shane is a legend and the bar in Cork is amazing. In fact my extended family run the flying enterprise. So Cork is always remembered fondly.

    Pub(s) for saturday?

Pleasure The theatre workshop bar is a mainstream lager and drinks site, King Edward VII, the refreshment room is quite cool too with racing track chairs and a great selection of beers, in fact that is a little hidden gem and just outside of the stratford shopping centre. 4 quarters and breakfast club may also be a little more mainstream too by the canal. Tap East is in Westfield and has a great reputation but certainly moving more towards craft beer. Most of the others in hackney wick will be a bit crafty but unique sites to be honest. The craft brewery and pizzeria is a cracking site. Beer merchants is a bit of a Belgian beer pub in a warehouse, has great beer merchandise from across the globe too. Hopefully you have a range of mainstream and crafty beer sites to choose from but check a few websites too of the above.

    Pub(s) for saturday?

Cracking theatre pub just through the old Stratford shopping centre. Then roof east on top of the shopping centre, currently has batting cages and other bits up there. But hands down I would go to Hackney Wick. Hackney Wick, one stop on the overground from Stratford and on the edge of the Olympic park, has amazing pubs. Crate brewery and pizzeria is always busy, over looking the canal. Howling hops is London only tank bar, tanks that go up to the ceiling. There about 5 or 6 cool pubs there, much better than the big chain Westfield. 4 quarters and a row of about 3 bars including the breakfast club, overlook the canal on the other side in the Olympic park. 4 quarters is full of old arcade games. It helps that I sell beer and cider within London

Marco has built a strong understanding of pukkis game and also allows buendia, Onel and Cantwell do what they do. I think he is a confidence player and at times last season he did walk like a giant and if he can do that more often then he will do it. He is a mismatch for a deep centre midfielder or centre half and he plays intelligently knowing that. I agree we probably don't see every bit but we do see it when he runs down a cul de sac or a ball is the wrong choice. But that is because he is in that critical role and sometimes he can look plucky. With where the team is coming from he is more than capable and I hope his levels remain high. I do think he may be at his ceiling but he can prove me wrong and keep soaring. In the Summer I believe we needed an improvement in that position but it didn't mean he could perform and following the summer he is our number 10. The ball through to Cantwell was cracking, the cross to Pukki in the first half was spot on. He has good quality, as do many of our team and squad; we will need all of them this season.

    Amadou

I think if vrancic fits anywhere it is actually in the 10 position and he would be competition for Marco or come on as sub for Marco. You would have Leitner, TT behind and Buendia, Cantwell alongside vrancic in our current system. Vrancic had so many great assists at the start of the season and then end of the season he was instrumental in our promotion and showed himself to be one of the best midfielders in the championship.
  24. Jim I agree, we have beaten a team who we thought would struggle and with Rafa's late departure, Bruce's arrival and ongoings at the club it was the right time to play. You have to taken advantage when a team is down, we haven't always but we did last Saturday. Chelsea have international players across the park and certainly will be favourites, however they will be aware we are on a high and are a threat. They may be in more of a position to stop that than Newcastle. But let's see, this is the advantage of playing the big teams early, you can catch them cold. It is a long season, with a lot of learnings to be made. Hopefully due to the young talent they have the ability to learn quickly and we can pick up points in the first half of the season. As the second half of the season is always a little harder.

    Amadou

It's a real tough one as in principle and mainly in practice last year it worked. I like what farke has said in regard to certain opponents may give us an opportunity to play a different player to counteract their advantage or give us a different edge. One size, in the premier League does not always fit. I think if in training there is a player showing a level higher than a player who has the starting spot, or if after a run of games the starting player has has the same stats and level of performance, then a change is right. This year I am certain the players are aware with less premier League games than championship games that they may play less due to the possibility of winless runs etc. This season we will see Farke and his team learning how to change a match with tactical changes and substitutions. A HC changes can be the difference between 1 and 3 points if the changes result in a marked performance change. Either way it is exciting as players will need to keep performing because of competition in the squad, less games and to prove their level can keep rising.
