  1. There’s no need for a panic just yet but if we do not improve on Friday night, we will lose, no question. However, there are a couple of concerning issues aside from the not scoring for 3 matches. Farke seems to have somehow reverted back to not being able to mate effective subs. Despite having more available to make and a many more options to pick from. Giannoulis looks our worst LB option. It may be early days but he has now played 2 full matches against very average opposition and looked poor defensively and anonymous going forward. Both Lungi and Xavi looked better options, early days.
  2. Anyone else a bit concerned and how easily Fisher nullified Cantwell? This is a guy who couldn’t get in Preston’s team and was picked up a few days earlier for £300k. Cantwell is allegedly a £20m plus player. Given Fisher’s success, I expect Todd may well experience this level of attention, a lot more going forward, from better players than Fisher.
  3. I’d play Hernandez over Placheta as from what I’ve seen, he’s the much better player. However, I’d agree he’s not match fit yet so I think he needs some minutes against Millwall to be ready to start at Swansea. From the start, I think it’ll be Kenny in for Emi, with Mario pushed out a bit wider right and Kenny at no 10.
  4. I think we deserve to be where we are and I also understand that we have (bar a couple of games) yet to play especially well or get out of 2nd gear etc. But, 26 games into the season, I do wonder when we are actually going to get out of 2nd gear?
  5. The question was how did he play today and I’d say not very well. He’ll be rated ‘in the papers’ on this match in isolation and will probably be 5/10 in most. However, it was his first match after only a few days in the squad so I’d expect him to improve. He’s going to have to be better on Tues and a lot better by next Friday night though.
  6. I was calling for some strength, pace and directness much earlier as Emi and Todd were just not in the match. I’d have taken Todd off at half time, given how little joy he was having against Fisher, which at least would’ve disrupted Warnock’s tactics. Placheta, Hernandez and Idah could’ve had a big impact if brought on much earlier as Boro were set-up to defend against a completely different style of play. Today’s match was crying out for a plan B, which we had but didn’t use. Also, Vrancic making way first every match is driving me up the wall. He was the only player today who looked like creating anything. When Emi got sent off, we could’ve just dropped him back and we’d have retained possession better. He’s also the most likely man to pick out a pass to set us away on the break. How Todd stayed on longer is completely beyond me.
  7. At least we have options from the bench. I think some pace and directness is probably what I’d required. See how their tactics cope with Placheta, Hernandez and Idah!
  8. Sorenson isn’t a long term left back option and despite being good overall, was pretty ropey last weekend. The new guy is quite clearly our first choice left back so why wouldn’t he play? I also think their signing of Bolasie may have potentially fast tracked a start.
  9. Reading vs Bournemouth Friday night as well....
  10. I’ll say it again Alex, chill out! On the accuracy of posts, please could you point me in the direction of where I said ‘why is everyone’ in my initial post? My comment was clearly tongue in cheek, eluding to the fact that some posters on here seem to think that Soto is the second coming. Clearly every thread (what I actually said) isn’t about Soto, it was an embellishment to make a light hearted point. However, if you’re going to take umbrage with that and fire shots back, please do make them accurate. Alternatively, just chill out!
  11. Chill out Alex, as you say, it is a message board whereby I’m perfectly entitled to post a message. So far a number of people have made it known that they agree with the sentiment of my message. I haven’t bothered to re-read the entire thread, I stopped when I after re-reading the first four, they were all about Soto and the impact he could now make rather than the title of the thread, which suggests it would be about Omotoye. So a mere couple of posters as you say, is just not an accurate statement. Each to their own though. By the way, I also believe Soto sounds promising but that is all. Do I think he’s going to play for the first team before the end of the season, based on the information available? No, not unless we have a serious injury crisis or we have some matches whereby the result is irrelevant.
  12. Jamal was earmarked as one we could afford to let go and there was actually a possibility of him leaving in January last year. I don’t know what came first though, whether he’d already started pushing for a move at that stage or if we decided he was dispensable. Sam Byram keeping him out of the team for a prolonged period when he was fully fit was the kicker though. Whichever it was though, I wish him well and hope his form improves. Very nice lad from what I’m lead to believe and I’m always keen to see the vast majority of ex-players do well.
  13. Why does every thread turn into ‘this must mean Soto is going to play’ despite all of the evidence to the contrary inc what Farke has even said himself?
  14. Pukki and Idah back, don’t worry. Striker options one and two will be available. Oh and four and five as well.
  15. More minutes in the tank of players who could be vital over the next couple of months. That’s a positive as the league is infinitely more important. Only real negative is Hugill’s injury so hopefully that’s nothing serious. Although as Soto is the second coming according to many, I’m sure it won’t be that important!
  16. I can’t be that concerned. The defence played well given the lack of support from midfield. Tettey was awful, Rupp was ok given his lay off. The attackers were well off the pace and lacked cohesion but that’s to be expected as they’ve never played together and not played a great deal at all, over the last few months. Thought Onel did ok and Placheta looked dangerous but his end product is poor. Dowell was disappointing but again, has barely played. Lets concentrate on the league and hope we have a forward available for next weekend!
  17. Interesting how people’s perception of Vrancic in the no 10 is that he does very little but what he does do, is retain possession regularly and drop deep looking for the ball. Clearly missing that today. Although I do think Barnsley have been excellent.
  18. Not if it gets past the work permit issue and allows us to loan him to a club in England that will give us a much better idea as to the standard he is actually at.
  19. Work permit is sorted. Isn’t it just his self isolation period that is stopping him from training with the rest of the squad?
  20. So Soto who has never kicked a ball in England, not played more than a handful of first team matches in his whole career, never even been seen in the flesh by Farke, etc etc is now our 2nd choice striker and soon to be our first? This board is absolute comedy gold at times.
  21. I wouldn’t risk any of our first choice players, it’s just not worth it at this stage. We can effectively put out a B team that should be competitive with some of the big guns in the bench, should we really need them.
  22. Played alright today, his best performance for us yet but probably still only a 7/10 at best. But I don’t think he was ever brought in to challenge Pukki, I think that’s Idah’s job. Hugill was bought in as something completely different from the bench, which is what we needed. If Idah was fit, he’d be ahead of Hugill in the pecking order, which was how the early part of the season played out. So on the grounds he’s our third choice forward, it wasn’t a bad performance today at all. And we won again.
  23. Thought everyone played well today, all at least 7/10. First 60 odd minutes was excellent but one dodgy bit of defending and it makes it a nervous last half hour again. It should’ve been a much more convincing result than the score suggests....again! As already pointed out, this with a vast number of players out again. So a big well done to all that played today.
  24. Just looks like he’s trying far too hard for me at the moment. Just keep it simple.
