  1. By your measure we are bigger. We were restricted to 19,000 - but could have sold 6,000 more quite easily. And if our ground was as large as Goodison, we''d probably be pushing 28,000+. Anyone know what the numbers are for the other Premiership clubs - we must be some way off the bottom. And who knows the current number at Poorman Road - home of lost souls.
  2. Ditto that comment Navman. Does this imply that Scowcroft is available as rumoured - I know who I would choose.
  3. For me Leon already has the right attitude and a big slug of self belief. Both will carry him forwards. Ability - well he''s still learning, but don''t be surprised on this score either - he quickly made the transition last year. Biggest issue for Leon will be service from midfield - he can''t flourish if they don''t provide. Still need to have some other options here to compliment what we already have.
  4. time to be optimistic. Southampton and Bolton talk suggests he will be leaving Villa - thats good. We know Worthy plays things close - who''s to say he''s not in for him to. Just not shouting about it. Reminds me of last year with Hucks. WBA were rumoured, Portsmouth too I think. And others - I forget who. If NW has targetted him, he''ll get him - or have a dam good try.
  5. I seem to recall that of all of the unreliable RELIABLE INSIDE INFORMATION I have seen in the past, the "Huckerby''s been spotted in an Estate Agency" rang true. Perhaps there''s something in this. Sort of player Worthy would go for.
  6. I hear that a whole host of clubs are chasing Easton : Watford Tanning Centre Cuprinol Man Lookalike United Lazy Boy Chairs Signal Toothpaste Sharon''s Hairstreaking Salon The Mahogany Association of Great Britain JobCentre Spooner-Row Railway Level Crossing Operators Guild Electric Stairlift Riders The Andy Marshall Playstation Academy ..... ....to name but a few.
  7. But Greece played to the limit of their resources, with generally average players- no stars - with a clear game plan based around a determined and dogged defence. Tell the Greek supporters it was boring - they won''t believe you. Personally, I do see the analogy. I see the limited resources. I see a resolute defence. I see a rich team spirit. If we can achieve in the Premiership the equivalent of Greece''s success then that''ll do for me.
  8. I have no insider knowledge - but various PR I''ve seen and some applied logic says £2/3m is about as much as Nigel will get. With the right loan deals and some astute dealing, I reckon he''ll be able to muster a reasonable team for day 1 and reassess when the transfer window reopens later in the year. So far he''s got 3 players already for a modest outlay - so it could be achievable. and lasy years total purchases were well within £1m. There''ll be enhanced wages to pay too as well as paying off some of the debt. As for the Baggies. Dunno but doubt the £15m+ figure. Known as a sensible club financially, I would doubt they''ll go that far. But they do start from a far higher base than us. My guess would be £5/6m tops.
  9. This is to be expected - after all, other than those of us that directly support the team, who would know about us - we''re infrequently on telly, even in East Anglia, rarely mentioned in the national press. Ask the average football fan about us and they''ll respond with Delia, Huckerby and not much more. So no surprises that we''re unrated. But thats all about to change. We''ll be propelled into the limelight, people will begin to take notice and will respect us because of our spirit and approach. If we make it, then we''ll be remembered - and if we fail we''ll be quickly forgotton (by the masses). And I don''t think we''ll be forgotton.
  10. Looks like the playstations going to get some action again!
  11. Ahhhhhhh..... I''ve just woken from a terrible nightmare.
  12. Why either/or? Lets go for both - they have completely different attributes and would both be worth acquiring. We could afford two on the strength of last weeks Sky announcement. With our pacey forward line Crouch would be a focal point with his height and general holdup play. Harewood has power and speed coming through from deep. I say get them both asap and then concentrate on sorting out our defensive cover.
  13. This is the week when things really begin to happen. Don''t be surprised if we end the week with at least three more players. One will be Crouch, for sure.
  14. vacancy for no 9 - is a special "long" shirt being perepared for a tallish guy?
  15. Or indeed, Ivor Biggun. Palace, West Brom and Blackburn to go down. Sale of Rooney, and probably Gravesen, will provide eneough money to keep Everton up.
  16. DD What was our winning formula last year? Formation did change a fair bit - personally I enjoyed the latter 4-3-3 with Hucks, Svenson and MacKenzie giving us a very pacy, fluid front line. But we only saw that towards the end when we wer able to relax.
  17. Attitude wise - I don''t see a problem at all - perhaps a little immature, naive, and media shy. But I was concerned last year about his contribution. At best it was spasmodic, highs and lows in the same match - but too many were just lows. It''ll be interesting to see where he fits in this year, if at all. Looks to me like he''ll be a fringe player. He''s now got all the motivation he needs to get some consistency going - because when he''s on top of his game, he can hack the Premiership.
  18. No surprises here. After all, we regard Palace and WBA as our easy games. Frankly, its likely that after the first month we''ll be bumping along at the bottom given our opening fixtures. That - and this - are just the sort of motivation we''ll benefit from as we begin our upward trek. Nolegs is right - Worthy''s man motivation can go on holiday.
  19. BabyB Sorry, Worthy frequently doesn''t deny speculation - so don''t read anything special into this one. But your penultimate sentence ....Let''s just sit and wait to see who graces the press conference at Carrow Road in the next few weeks!!! .... is definitely on the mark. I think there will be a few surprises coming - all three recruits so far are surprises - even Bentley.
  20. billy-bob - what are you on? Personally I''d be happy with 4 points from that start and a mildly negative goal difference. Am I being unrealistic?
  21. whenever I hear or see those immortal words .....I heard from a fairly reliable source that...., I think, here''s another unlikely event thats never going to happen. I hope I''m wrong in this case but experience has shown in almost all cases those words are unconnected with reality.
  22. It is a money thing - but more indirectly. Its about many, many fans who would love to see the match and will not be able to - yet there will be empty seats on view. Ideally we ought to try and "recycle" for all of the reasons stated. Thats good for the club too in more than just commercial terms. Its about community. For example, members - who have made a payment - can now only see 3 games for certain, and at premium prices, because of demand. To tempt a season ticket holder with a fiver just ain''t going to work - why not set a price for short term returns at usual rates plus £5 - for the purchaser and reward the season ticket holder with , say £15 - in the form of a credit rather than cash. £15 is less likely to be thrown away than £5 - which frankly is affordable to most people. With the ground full those marginal seats will pull in extra ticket income (see above), programme money, refreshment money, possibly merchandise as well as building greater longer term loyalty. Come on club, be more innovative and get the ground up to 99% full.
  23. Hey guys. Check out the weblink below. Marc''s definitely changed since we last saw him. In fact, he''s become a real wally! http://www.scotprem.com/Article.asp?ARTICLE=210134
  24. Thankyou Mr Beelsie. Mutual appreciation society takes off! I can remember those days back in the 70''s when Chopper Harris and other (thugs/hard men ... please delete as appropriate) abounded. The fouls then were bone crunching and dangerous - and have since been eliminated by use of the red card. And also at that time, we english occaisionally came across a bit of spitting and shirt pulling, a rare event, from the continentals when we met them in euro competitions. Oh how we howled. It just wasn''t tolerated. If we could outlaw it then , then lets do it now.
