1.
We''re playing the scum and you still take the opportunity to have a dig at Worthy - why bother?
Why bother?

Because for me Worthington is responsible for our failing to stay up last year, and he is responsible for our dreadful start this year.

If today''s selection is the right one, why hasn''t Worthington had the courage/knowledge/insight to have picked it before? If it is the wrong selection then it was nothing but a panic decision.

  2. The fact is that managers get judged on their results relative to the resources available to them.

For this reason Dario O''Grady does not sacked by Crewe despite the fact that they do little but survive in the Championship - he achieves the expectation of the Board and the fans.

With Worthington the situation is different. He has been given more money to spend than any other manager in our history. He has a hugely supportive Board. In many people''s eyes he failed last year by failing to achieve the single away win that would have secured survival. This has to be down over the whole season to his tactics and his selections. Occassuionally the players will not perform, but if that happens over the whole course of a season then it has to be the responsibility of the manager who could/should have changed the tactics, coaching and selections. Add to that the debacle of Fulham, with the total surrender in a match that we should have shown intense will to win.

Worthington had the resources last year to engineer survival and he failed.

He has the resources this year and again he is failing.

"Blind Optimism" will not change our results - only good management will.

  3. It''s a make or break selection. Typically Worthington drops someone completely out of the squad, Shackell, and brings someone in who has not really figured in his plans, Docherty. The 4-3-1-2 is also a make or break decision.

If it works then well done to Worthy for being brave - if it fails then it smacked of panic.

  4. "The board are responsible to the shareholders so not immune, but surely people aren''t thinking of trying to vote them out? That WOULD be madness."

Just a point Putney, the majority shareholders, and effective owners of the Club, are Delia and Michael who are also directors, so it could be argued that the usual safeguard of accountability by a board to the shareholders doesn''t come into play at Carrow Road.

Consequently what happens at Carrow Road comes down to what these two want. If they have been led to believe that we cannot realistically expect to be any more that an upper echelon Championship side then they will not "spend" the money in any event to get rid of Worthington. If on the other hand they believe that we could be a Premiership side then they will eventually have to face up to whether to sack W and suffer the financial consequences for the possible betterment that such an action could bring - not a straight forward business decision as it can only be based on supposition.

  5. One of the reasons why we played better as a defensive unit in the promotion year was Malky. He was our natural leader and organiser, he gave us physical strength and height.

I remember at the time that he was kicked out, and he was kicked out, that over the complete season Malky was awarded more "points" by our local journalists, who see every game, than any other outfield defender. Worthington saw fit to discard Malky and he has never been fully replaced.

It is decisions such as this that have been at the root of my not rating Worthington as a manager, he seems to make decisions without working out the consequences. Add to that his seeming inability to "coach" an improvement in the side, or indeed individual players, throw in some of his selection decisions, mix in his questionable transfer record and top it off with his record over the last 40 odd games and perhaps you will see why I am not a fan of his. The final elements are his completely uninspiring interviews be they on the TV, radio or in the press.

A leader should inspire, guide and rule - Worthington just doesn''t do it for me.

  6. On virtually every front I think it would be difficult to level any criticism at the Board.

They have engineered a massive turnaround regarding the finances of the Club. They have improved the ground beyond all recognition. They have backed the incumbent manager with the largest amount of investment that any manager has had the use of. They have forged solid links with the supporters. All of which shows that they have done a pretty good job.

However, their hardest task is now with them.

Do they stick with NW and honour his contract in the hope that he does have the ability to turn the performances around, accepting that we will not be promoted this year but simply establish a safe position? Thereafter running the Club as a solid Championship team.

Or do they bite the bullet, pay off his contract and bring someone new in and trust that they can do a "Dowie" and gain promotion this year?

If the Board''s ambition is to remain as an established Championship side then they cannot be criticised for their current laissez-faire attitude. If the Board''s ambition is to return to the Premiership than they will be criticised if we do not embark upon a successful, sustained, run over the next few weeks and they still do nothing about NW.

The answer to the question lies in the whatever the TRUE ambition of the Board is.

  7. If indeed we do lose against both Ipswich and Reading then I have no doubt that the board should have the courage to sack Worthington.

Not just because of this season, but also because of last season. The man has spent millions on players over last season and this but to what avail? A disorganised clutch of players who cannot string together a sequence of reasonable results over the last 40+ games.

It is the managers job to get a result from the resources available to him. This W has patently failed to do, and if we end up with 6 points after 10 gaems he HAS to go.

  8. Right now the Board appear to be sticking behind W and he is going to brave things out.

However, the Reading match will be the watershed "10th" match that so many people refer to.

In a worst case scenario we lose to Ipswich. That would put enormous pressure on W for the Reading match. Let''s assume we lose that match as well, a quite likely result right now.

That would leave us as played 10, won 1, drawn 3, lost 6 -  6 points ( with 6 played at home and only 4 away).

Given that scenario, and taking all the emotion out of it, what do people genuinely think should happen?

    1) Should we stick it out with W and hope that things get better?

    2) Should he be sacked?

    3) Should he resign?

  9. In my opinion both Zipper and Gazza generally make well thought out, reasoned posts.

Just because you may not agree with the content it doesn''t alter the quality of the post.

At the end of the day it is all supposition as to just what is wrong - the only fact is that something is wrong as the Watford result (at halftime anyway) shows.

  10. I am a huge Hux fan but it is noticeable that he does not create the havoc that he did 2 seasons ago.

Perhaps he has lost that "half a yard" of pace that enabled him to weave past player after player as he was able to do in 2003-2004? Last year he was up against better defenders so he never was going to shine as much.

That being so, it is noticeable this year that his runs up the left rarely result in a killer pass, or a goal, as he would have done 2 years ago.

Accordingly, Brennan has to be the player of choice for left midfield, leaving Hux to play as a striker...mmmmmm...as Amarillo says, this is the enigma that is Hux - perhaps he has achieved his zenith for us (2003-2004) and now is a "squad" player rather than one of 3 automatic picks, oh sorry, 4 automatic picks as I had forgotten Flem

  11.
As i said in my earlier posting we have to be looking at 7 points from the next 3 games. Watford Ipswich and Reading. I''d be more than happy with a point if we follow up with 6 from the other 2
If we pick up 13 points from the next 5 games I will pronounce W a genius and run round CR naked

Watford are playing well at the moment, they have an excellent Manager, (where did he come from then :whistling, an excellent defence -led by Malky, an effective midfield and a reasonable defence. Ipswich will want to put one over us and Reading are one of the "form" teams right now. We should/must beat Hull and we should be able to get a point from Brighton. To me that looks more like 6 points rather than 13.

  12. I would agree that we will never be a "major force" , presumably a top 4 Premiertship Team playing in the Champions League on a regular basis?

However, I see every reason why we should become an established Premiership Team and qualify for say the EUFA Cup on a fairly regular basis.

If we can get back into the Premiership, and stay up, then the cash flow into a Club over the course of 3 to 4 consecutive seasons allows any Club to start to build a squad based on real quality.

The big if is if we can back into the Premiership....right now that is looking extremely unlikely. However, there is nothing that same radical action won''t put right
