1.
If we do it is imperative that we have a representative from "P.C" world present to make sure that anyone of an ethnic background is randomely scattered within the photo and that the photographer isn''...
If the previous thread hadn''t been censored, you could have seen that I never even mentioned the word racism. If you knew me better you''d know that I''m certainly not PC. But I always try to be colour-blind in my approach to life. Being colour-blind includes not arranging black players into pretty patterns, of course. But it also involves not randomly scattering them. Both approaches involve an equal amount of preoccupation with a person''s skin colour, and so both are equally crass in my view. I''m not the sort of person who looks for patterns of any sort in team photos, and would almost certainly not have noticed had in not been for a posting on this board last summer noting that our black players were arranged symmetrically. I actually put that down to coincidence and forgot about it, but when the same thing happened again this year it seemed to me that it was much less likely to be down to chance. In the last week or so I have checked team photos of a number of different clubs, and none show such perfect symmetry of black players. So it''s not as though such arrangements are some sort of convention. I love Norwich City and don''t want them to be ridiculed. You remember a few years ago when Norwich Police used a blacked-up actor to re-enact a robbery, what derision was heaped upon our city? We were portrayed as backward yokels, and it hurt. I am concerned that if some elements of the national media, or the race relations industry did latch onto the phenomenon I identified, it could damage the club''s image. You know the sort of thing - black people are such a novelty in Norwich they make patterns out of them in team photos. That perception might in turn make it harder to attract black players in future. None of us want that. If the previous thread had been allowed to develop I would have said I don''t believe there is serious racism within NCFC, institutional or otherwise. Equally, I can''t imagine the press having any significant say in the way the group is arranged. Given the low probability that such patterns could have emerged by chance two years running, I can only repeat - it''s very queer. By drawing attention to the issue I hoped we could show that there''s no passive acceptance or lack of awareness by the fans. Unfortunately the vehemence and unanimity of opposition to my posting, and the deletion of my original thread, suggests this was a forlorn hope.
2. Once again all the black players are symmetrically positioned in the team photo. Last year I was prepared to believe that it was coincidence, but this year... Who decides where the players stand? Is someone trying to make a pretty arrangement (and if so why isn''t Gary Doherty in the middle)? This could open the club to widespread ridicule and scorn, so just what the hell is going on?
3.
I like you too, Ducky. I mean Dicky. Must admit I was quite chuffed with the "Kuqi coup" bit.
I just Googled "Kuqi coup" and it seems half the world thought of it before me. Nothing new under the sun, it seems.
4. Every morning at the pie shop you’d see him arrive Kinda broad at the waist, weighing two eighty five His tracksuit tight, and an Ipswich scarf, And nobody who saw him could help but laugh at Big Joe Folks said it was a heavy load To take on the shambles at Portman Road But Joe he had a smile on his face He thought that he could rock the place, Big Joe Big Joe, Big Joe, Big Fat Joe He had to boost his striking power, Cometh the man and cometh the hour, Went to Hillsborough, knew what to do, Called it his little Kuqi coup, Big Joe Come Christmas Day, Joyeux Noel, The Tractor Boys were going well Top of the league with points to spare Feeling like a millionaire was Big Joe Big Joe, Big Joe, Big Fat Joe But with the decorations Down came sorry little Ipswich Town Wings off, ablaze, he couldn’t avoid Crashing like an asteroid, Big Joe Sitting in the impact crater Was Big Fat Joe, head like a potata Star players gone, replaced by kids The Binmen are really on the skids, Big Joe Big Joe, Big Joe, Big Fat Joe
5. Oh come on you lot - the all time classic strip HAS to be the one we wore in our first ever season in the top division - 1972-73. The introduction of green shorts, and the elegantly uncluttered shirts. No fussy stripes or blotches, no maker''s logo, no sponsor''s name, just the new badge on the front, and the number on the back. Less IS more!
6. In the good old days you knew when we''d be playing Ipswich - Boxing Day and Easter Monday. Now some meddling bureaucrat has decreed that this should no longer be allowed to happen, but why was such an excellent arrangement changed? Anyone know?
7. Some of these women appear to be about as big and strong as some of the smaller players in the mens'' game. Which begs the question - why not have mixed teams like mixed tennis? Six men, five women? Wouldn''t that add a bit of spice! By the way, anyone notice which bits women cover when facing a free kick?
8. Why not highlight the pretentious use of French and call our league the "Deuxieme division"? I''ve heard people talking about tier one, tier two etc. which at least keeps the whole thing in perspective.
9.
...is exactly like ours should have been. Rustic, retro and stylish. None of this swooping cape-collar nonsense and flashes. It''s not too late to change it Delia - we''ve already worn it for one ga...
I agree - the new Arsenal shirt is very stylish. Much more so than the rather clunky sleeveless sweater design they have worn for the last 50 years or so. Pity the change isn''t permanent.
