Ark replied to can u sit down please's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
WBA 35 (-23) Norwich 35 (-28) Palace 34 (-20) Saints 29 (-21) Down on goal difference. And I had us drawing all our away games and winning our home games, which is hopeful to say the least i reckon. -

Looks like whatever happens from here on in, my main criterion for the season not being a total failure has been met! Relegation in 20th place would now only rate as a mild disappointment in my book. -
By what do you measure our success/failure this season?
Ark replied to Morph's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I think the problem is that deep down we all have that feeling at the beginning of the year that "maybe this will be our season" - ie. that we might defy all odds and qualify for europe, finish in the top half, have a cup run or something of the like. After watching City triumph as they did last year its just really hard to accept a season like we''ve seen - even as likely as it was in all truth to turn out this way. I expected to see us relegated, but I would have loved to see us get an unexpected result against one of the big-boys (one of the promoted teams seems to manage it most years) - so... saturday''s the last chance i suppose.... -
An idea that has never even crossed my mind... but makes an incredible amount of sense. Come on Worthy, give the guy a chance! Helveg + Charlton in central defence I say - with Shackell waiting in the wings.
-
Just for a second I thought the article was going to say that he''d drop Andrew Johnson to give us some faint hope of getting something out of the game next week! But, in honesty, the only reason he''s said that is to get his own players to believe that we could be a threat.
-
The truth is that a significant proportion of football fans subscribing probably will be passionate about a particular club - I certainly know a few, but to counter-balance that there''s always those people who subscribe for the other sports I guess (as if there''s such thing!). And then there''s all those that are just far too rich for their own good and just go for the Sky World package cos its just such "good value" (?!). It''s probably time that fans like us stand up behind our board if they''re calling for a change, and with a bit of cojolling perhaps the fans of some of the bigger clubs might just realise that it''s for their good too in the long-term - don''t forget not all supporters are as short-sighted as the shareholders + executives (just look at Man U and Glazier''s millions).
-
Well... Their shareholders may benefit at least. Don''t know if the fans really get much out of the deal - I certainly wouldn''t want to be paying the season ticket prices they''ve got at the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal!!

In response to Wynn-Jones''s comments on the front page...First. He''s spot on as a fan.Second. Where do these PL chiefs think their precious God-given TV money comes from???NEWS FLASH... It''s football supporters in general who subscribe to Sky TV or choose to watch the Ads in ITVs coverage of the Champions'' League. So why should all this money go to the biggest clubs when the prize money can only be so great thanks to the fans of smaller clubs who tune in every week?Answer. IMO it shouldn''t. Maybe the successful clubs should earn more. But the current situation is ludicrous. Look at clubs in the lower leagues unlikely to earn even £1million a season from TV coverage - That''s less than 1/30 of what a "poor" PL club like ourselves gets!!

Should Worthy have gone halfway through the season?
Ark replied to TwoSheds's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I hate this retrospective history things. Knowing what we know now, should Worthy have gone halfway through the season? Simple answer... No. He didn''t. Another question for you... Should Britain have sided with the Germans in the first world war? - think about it. We would have finally defeated our old foes the French and there never would have been Hitler! Simple answer... No. We didn''t. -
It''s always a tough move to recruit someone who doesn''t have any connections with the club.1. cos they''ll take a lot of convincing to take the job if they''ve managed at the highest level.2. cos they will know f-all about the players - ie. who plays well with who, who''s a donkey etc. (like Souness with all the teams he''s destroyed) Anyone out there with City connections?? I reckon Martin O''Neill needs a new challenge. Or maybe... Joe Royle (okay, bad joke).Fact of the matter is that as far as I can see there aren''t any obvious candidates that wouldn''t be a major gamble for the club. The strength of Worthy as manager is that he''s worked incredibly well as a team with Doug Livermore and Steve Foley who both have a wealth of experience (I don''t imagine the team + tactics are just picked by one man). If anyone, I''d think about handing the job to one of them - probably Livermore for his top-flight experience.... But I''m still in favour of keeping hold of Worthy for the foreseable.

Transfer fees may be an issue. Anyone know of any quality midfielders coming up for Bosman transfers in the summer?(with the exception of our own Mr Mulryne of course)
-
I don''t blame Sky - I blame the greedy chairmen and shareholders responsible for breaking-away to form the Premier League in the first place (and that included Norwich at the time). Best league in the World? I doubt it, the best leagues are also the most competitive and open - Look at La Liga, any number of teams are capable of finishing in the top four. eg. Deportivo were effectively a club of the stature of Wimbledon when they took the title... Risen from the non-league to champions league within the space of 15-20 years. You just don''t get that in English football. The gulf is too big between the haves and have-nots now - even between top and mid-table in the Prem. Rick Waghorn wrote a good piece the other week about how American sports have got it right by sharing the money around. I think he''s spot on. The governing bodies behind sport should do their utmost to provide a level playing field... otherwise it''s just not, well... sport. is it?

With all this talk of sacking Worthington, there have been precious few suggestions as to who the board might bring in to replace him. (There are a lot of poor managers out there - as we know all too well from seasons past)Come on you Worthy-doubters, back up your arguement... Who would you bring in? Let''s be ''avin you!
-
Either... a) percentage of total topics on the this board that you have shared your tuppence in. b) the percentage of topics you''ve started where people have responded directly with irate personal messages. I prefer... a) the percentage of matches in which City actually turned up and tried to play when the chips were down this season. b) the percentage of fans in Carrow Road that bought their season tickets cos it was the cheapest way they were likely to get to see Chelsea, Arsenal or Man U this season. c) the percentage of people expected to vote for the abstenance and apathy parties at the coming general election. I''d be one if I didn''t so dearly want to get rid of Charles Clarke.

***SHOCK POLL*** Worhtington IN or OUT? ***VOTE HERE***
Ark replied to Canary Boy's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Go on then... IN.Deserves more time based on his record over the last 4 seasons. Besides I''ve not yet heard one good canditate suggested to replace him! -
Jan Molby technically has a Norwich connection - if only on loan - think he was plying his trade quite successfully at Kidderminster for a while. Starting to wonder whether this really gives us more than our fair share, but it certainly makes you think just how many players/managers have been involved at Carrow Road over the last 20-odd years.

Who have the most arrogant fans in football?
Ark replied to DumbleDelia is Magic's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
I''d go for Wolves / Blackburn. Wolves ''cos they''re all convinced they''re playing well below their station, Blackburn ''cos they''re convinced that they''re not playing well above theirs. Big team - my arse! Where would either be without their inheritances? -
Was just reading the article on the front page about Dennis van Wijk and started wondering whether the Canaries might have more than their fair share of former players (+ managers) still plying their trade in the game - in the UK and elsewhere.I know most players + managers are associated with a number of clubs, but it seems every other week we''re hearing stories of former Canaries succeeding somewhere or other in a coaching role. Can anyone think of any examples other than Megson, O''Neill, Rioch, Bruce, Newman, Crook (well, okay they''ve not all been successful, but I''m sure there are others).Either way City''s old-boys seem to be a lot more successful on the touchlines than they do on the pitch!
-
And he''s the lead singer of Coldplay, who apparently have a new album on the way.... Okay, perhaps we should wait for the release before we sing too many of his praises. The third album always tends to be the one that really makes or breaks a band when it comes to the big-time.
just isn''t good enough. Drop him Worthy - give Briggs a shot!
Doh. Now you''ve done it! Right, I suggest Chris Martin. Apparently he''s had an awesome season in the academy.

I never remember goalscoring being the most important attribute to look for in a defender, and besides from what I remember Flem also scored a few in City''s playoff season. As for rewriting history, it''s been a long while since Flem spend any significant time on the sidelines - maybe you could remind me when Malky, Kenton + Drury made such a formidable team?Having watched a fair few games in Division 1, I always felt that Malky would be off the pace now and then and tended to lean on Fleming''s solid performances at the back. And, it seems, Worthy agreed with this synopsis when he decided to let Mackay go at the start of this season - being the less likely of the two to be able to cope with the pace of the Premiership. As for Helveg, Charlton + Doc. I''m sure Helveg and Charlton will be straight back in the mix when they return from injury, whilst Doc was given an extended run in the team and proved to be slow, clumsy, poor at marking and weak on the ball. One for the future? I''m not even sure about that!
