It sucks that they all still have to be activists as well as footballers

It sure does. In an ideal world no one would need to be an activist to have their rights and freedoms respected. But if it annoys some that there are activists (about any particular cause, even the ones they don't like) then they have to think about when it's their own rights being intruded, violated, or removed - far too often, and in some sections of society, time and time again.

My sense of humour doesn't involve laughing at someone else's misfortune.

I'm far more concerned when folk are  indifferent to a fellow's mildly aggravating misfortune than if they find it amusing.

I get the moralising, I do. But it's good to reaffirm our humanity and not deny ourselves (within reason) opportunities to laugh, don't worry about what ppl think since Norfolk makes ppl a bit mad anyways 😅

Will do wonders for PP's confidence as he played well also. He's like a new signing really.

Also sounds like Sam had a good game, which is great and keeps PP away from that left back spot.

Can't see Onel being involved much going forward!

It's a long season, we need everyone performing well and competition for spots keeps things interesting.. who's to say that in a couple of months Onel won't score a last minute winner off the bench?

  4. Saudis can buy every top 10000 footballer in the world but their league won't ever surpass the Championship let alone the PL.

Why? Because they are buying players, yes, but what they really want as an objective is something that cannot be bought - football as a sport for the masses. The connection between everyday fans and their chosen club, because of the culture/values of the club, the way they conduct themselves, the way they play football. People who express themselves freely because they identify with their club.

That is where the power lies. That is what they seek as both prestige and a means to better distract from all other things they do not want to be seen on tv. Without it you only have an expendable hobby for the mega rich.

  5. On a topic very much related to this one, the events in the WC Ladies Spanish win regarding actions/behaviours of RFEF chief Rubiales - specially with Hermoso after the match - raise once again the issue of consent.

He's seen grabbing her by the face and giving her a peck, at what point did she consent to it - considering that silence or inaction does not equal consent? Never mind the crotch grabbing and then going into the dressing room afterwards to cop a feel or perv about under the excuse of "celebrations"?

FIFA is investigating the matter, surely the writing is on the wall to this guy.

    Don't be "that guy".

  6. I think the plan for the future is to have Fassnacht in the Barnes (who will soon be 34) role. When Sainz is back and fit, attack wise -barring injuries- we should be OK, even though I'd prefer if Idah left on loan to get consistent gametime and we got a more "ready" striker to rest Sargent . Defensively it is trickier. Omo needs minutes, Hanley could take a long time if he is ever returning to a competitive level, and there is not a like-for-like replacement for Kenny or GS in the middle of the park.

They won't. He binned them after as he had about four newer pairs and had put a good few hundred miles in those. I just tried his old ones out as I fancied finding out what the fuss was about.

As said, I'll take the adidas adizero over the Nike Vaporfly every day of the week, I find it a far better ride when pushing a pace and not as cumbersome on the heel.

Yeah, most of the new stuff on runner trainers feature massive heels with a smaller drop (Hokka for example). I was about to get a pair of Brooks Glycerin 20 but as I'm not a serious runner and stick to 5k's I settled for unconventional North Face Flight Vectiv. Not too bad for speed. On discount so half price 😂

  8. Low confidence meets lack of/poor communication and fear of rejection. Also sometimes, lack of empathy.

Seems that some guys want someone who:

    A) is available whenever they want and never says no to whatever they want

    B) Cannot have a mind of their own / cannot change their mind for whatever reason / cannot be independent and must run her life according to master's wishes

    C) Is a mind reader when the guy is a poor communicator.

In short - people who think in this way have a weak man's distorted idea of a "strong man".

Fine in theory, but that’s not how things work in reality. Be a bit of a mood killer wouldn’t it if you had to sit down and ask “are you sure you want to proceed with intercourse?” every time you managed to get somebody back after a night out

I wouldn't use such formal / clunky wording, but I'm not afraid to communicate my intentions clearly if I feel the mood may go in that direction. Often IME it's not really what you say, rather how you say it (dunno, or maybe it's my accent). But if it floats your boat, good on you.

"Mood killer" well, it may happen when you can't "read" the person you're with, although is much better than making a direct move that turns bad. Drunken passes in clubs were rarely cool or smooth but learning experiences 20+ years ago. If I make a flirty joke/innuendo and it lands flat once, may be just the occasion or whatever, if it happens twice then maybe we don't share a sense of humour and no need to go any further. If I act like a kn*b or say something really crass, then a 'corrective' is well deserved. Rejection is a part of life, not to be taken too personally, and handling it well is a mark of maturity in my book. Those who can't, soon end up in risky terrain.

Tl;Dr- only you know what works for you and what doesn't, and likewise, your (potential) partner has the same right. Communication is a 2 way street.

Should we use this as the basis for convicting people of other crimes? “You seem to be a horrible person, and there’s no smoke without fire therefore I find you guilty of murder, have 25 years in the slammer!”

Allegations of offences of a sexual nature are fundamentally different from any other crimes and thus need to be treated accordingly.

It irks me that it seems that the judicial processes involved with the prosecution of such offenses haven't caught up with the notion of consent, and when consent is coerced (therefore invalid).

On these matters, I personally go by the maxim of "anything less than an enthusiastic (verbally AND non-verbally) Yes is a NO". Lukewarm stuff or "lay back and think of England" does not do it for me.

The people who are happy at this decision should do a rethink. Imagine if they're falsely accused of sexual assault and their life gets ruined as a result?

I refer you to Andrew Malkinson.

His life was ruined. But he didn't have the money or the "prestige" MG had. Rot in prison for decades - even after DNA evidence proved his innocence... after a long battle with the justice system, was recently acquitted and free. Worse yet, he's been made to pay for his stay at HMP, and next to no support to rebuild his life again. But one of his 1st actions after release? Went out of his way to meet/ talk to the victim that (coaxed by prosecutors no doubt) wrongfully pointed at him as the perpetrator of a heinous crime  - not with anger or vengeance towards her but with great dignity and empathy.

His life was ruined, still his morality remained intact after such an ordeal. Hopefully he'll be compensated fully so he can rebuild in some way and move on.

Greenwood will be fine - in another country. He has enough money coming in from MU to last a good while.

I love the sudden tergiversatory optimism but the underlying problem, the real aardvark in the abbattoir, is that Wagner only gets teams promoted with a negative goal difference...🤩

Hitherto, that only applies to Huddersfield.

Would it bother fans if City got promoted - AND stayed up for a season or more - with a negative GD? I think the jury's out on that one..
