    Even if we sort that the back 4 is pretty woeful at this level. It's not his fault but someone needs to be better than Maguire, but who is that?

    I don't think GS knows how to set up a team with a classic #10. Who was the last player under him who we could class as such?

    I agree with the last paragraph. And if you stick to that, you do not need to apologise to me, or anyone. There is enough temptation to use "emotionally charged" or "colourful" language to attract attention nowadays by people, when IMO succinct, objective and direct talk does the job.

    Let's now talk about the "ruination" the Glazers have imposed on ManUtd, shall we?

    Are you assuming that he - or most people - would be able to think in abstract terms over a topic as emotionally charged as this? 

    There is a lot of "if it happened to my family I would do x, y, z" but in reality that is very seldom how it pans out.

    When was the last time you used that particular word in a conversation with someone you were not very well familiar with (ie, outside your mates' circle, or someone who you're having "a bit of banter" with at the pub over a few drinks)? 

    My nephew - soon to go into uni - used it recently when talking about a football team scoring lots of goals against another. Immediately I strongly told him not to use it lightly / out of context / with people he didn't know well - just because it can be used, or sometimes is, it does not mean it should.

    It's really strange, you know... People bandying about 'r a p e' in conversation like it is the most trivial thing in the world. But when it actually happens, to them or someone close to them, the word mysteriously disappears.

    Maybe we ought to think why that is.

    Financially speaking, a solid 9/10. Offloaded players who didn't start / stalled, were on big wages AND signed experienced players + players with future potential and made a profit overall.

    Football wise, maybe a 7/10. The disappointment comes from not signing a permanent striker (Cannon would have been good) after Teemu left, allowing Idah to go on loan to get solid minutes, and a proper DCM. Good yet lacking ambition IMO.

    Good job for the mods. Words out of context make communication difficult IMO, more so online than in face-to-face conversation.

    As a fan I understand the attachment to players who are / became important to us - but the club is a business, and profit-motive dictates that most clubs have to sell every once in a while. Maybe what the OP is disgruntled about is the mixed messaging from the club above all else, with SW saying one thing and Delia saying something else?

     

    Either way, to me it was a matter of time that Aarons and Omo had to be sold, as they clearly stagnated for us. The fact that the club was able to make a modest profit is a bonus.

    My thoughts exactly.

    Moved there for couple yrs to save money, left town in 2010 and never looked back. Immediately life became brighter in many different respects. Kinda wish GY had gone the way of WW2 Coventry and rebuilt from scratch. A new fancy bridge now will change little in people's minds.. (those who haven't lost theirs, that is..)

    Horrible news. What Josh does for the team can't be easily replicated without a lot of money. Gutted for the guy, he was setting up a benchmark season as #9. Hope he can bounce back from this.

     

    Wagner needs to find an alternative, workable strategy with current personnel during the international break.

    Idah is not an adequate replacement for Sargent so we need to hope Hwang is.

    Really frustrated we don’t give Nunez more pitch time yet Springett gets on in every single game. Nothing against Springett, he’s ok but not a lot more. 

     

    All the players you mention have different strengths and weaknesses, they're not from a footballing cookie-cutter machine, it's not just the shirt name/number that changes. Changes of personnel mean almost every time a change in gameplan to a certain extent. 

    Player's performance can be OK (1st half definitely not - it was horrid, 2nd was ok) and yet the team's may be poor if it's not geared correctly.

    A massive part of City's game under Wagner is - both in attacking and defending - high press and air superiority. The press does not work if we can't pin the opposition CBs with a target man who is strong on headers. Far more difficult to win 2nd balls without that kind of striker. On this, imo Sargent has delivered more for the team than just on his goal contribution. 

    Today was a reality check that we need to adapt our gameplan if we don't have someone to fulfill that role.

    Good point - transfer business for us is, and has been under SW, a very delicate balance between the needs of the here and now (building a team that can compete for promotion, playing the kind of football fans want to see, without sacrificing economical viability) versus the future needs (having young players that can generate substantial income for the club if sold).

    Trimming the 'fat' by letting non-starting players (Krul, Aarons, Milot, Omo, Mumba) go AND making moderate profit - is good business. Buying a few youngsters with future potential on free / relatively cheap deals is good business. Stabilising the present needs of the squad with shrewd acquisitions and short term loans is... you guessed it.

    Not a destination I would've expected, to be honest.

    Specially since their president was one of the 1st people to condemn Rubiales... very, very strange decision. 

    From the player's point of view, I'm guessing he won't mind much as there is a British community around those parts, including a few dodgy expats/absconders. He'll feel right at home, the weather is a bonus.
