  1. Holding midfielder would be nice hahahah ???

Too Comfortable last night Became complacent made errors gave the ball away in midfield. TOOO SLOW to move forwards

however to blame the defenders doesn't seem right after watching the attacking players squander so many really good opportunities

we need real pace in all areas especially up top going beyond late in the game when opposition players are tired.

thought Batth actually played well in defence of the defence

    Villa fan in peace...

As requested by the opening post, my thoughts are that Deano will play 4-3-3 and as someone suggested above, he will play Cantwell on the left. So the front 3 would likely be Cantwell -- Pukki -- Rashica. He will try to get Cantwell to cause issues on the left and by doing so free up some space for Aarons to push forward and form a good right wing partnership with Rashica to get the ball into Pukki. You will also see more shots from midfielders and I expect your attempts on goal will increase.

I am not sure about what midfielders you guys have but he will probably try and play with two DMs to try and protect the back 4 a little more. JWP has scored quite a few against us and he is a little too good with a dead ball so I expect discipline will be quite good to avoid giving free kicks. He will also want to play big CBs (if u have them) as there will be balls flying into the box.

He will want to get off to a good start and I expect you will get a fair bit of press but not as much as he would like, he will be a tad conservative. Saints beat us 1-0 in Deano's last game so he will want to avenge that and I actually think you guys will win this game. One thing I really like about Deano is that he doesn't sit back when u go 1-0 up. He will go for the 2nd goal and his teams tend to be very good on the counter attack.

Good luck at the weekend and I hope u get the 3 points. You next 3 fixtures are all winnable and definitely should be looking for at least a point from each. I think you will need to pick up 5+ points from those 3 games as you have Spurs, Man Utd and the visit of Villa following that. They will be a much much tougher set of games.

thanks for the input.....seems like Smiths playing style could suit us except balls flying into the box.

No, I'm not particularly happy with Smith as a replacement for Farke. If Farke ever left, I had hoped it would be for another non-English head coach and someone a bit different, there's quite a few good continental coaches that would have been interesting to have on board. Smith may be good for us and he will have my support, but can't say he inspires me. Time will tell and if he gets results, then that is what he is here for and if we go down, to get us back again pretty quick. A tall order either way, but good luck to him.

Like who ? I couldn't see any of the well know continental coaches taking the job ?

In Smith we have got a man with experience of the league and really importantly we have his assistant who has bags of experience.....played one massive part in keeping a team up who were in a similar position to us ! which can only benefit.

imagine next year winning the Premier League 😉

I always thought Clingan got a bit of unnecessary stick. I know people were pissed off he left but we got a good fee and I'm pretty sure that was welcome considering our financial situation at the time, same as David Marshall.

Croft left on a free though, after he was somewhat suspiciously awarded POTS.

I've got a feeling he was skipper at the time and maybe why it didn't go down to well.

Refused to play from memory I think that we sold him soon afterwards despite holding all the cards - he was still under contract. Presumably we should have played tough and kept him?

That Dave Stringer must have been a sh1t manager for letting one of our best players go!

yep played a few games at the start of that season.....tapped up by Blackburn and their filthy rich owners.

Dave Stringer has a lot to answer for !

My corner bugbear is that we always bring every single player back when we're defending them, which gives the attacking team licence to bring as many players forward as they like. If someone can explain why we don't leave Pukki on the halfway line I'd be very grateful.

it used to depend on how the set up was in regards to having a player on the posts..... it can then leaves 1 or 2 oppo players spare

not sure how that works with zonal marking though.

Mourino had a spell of leaving three players up on the half way line.
