A Hill you would die on. Norwich City

Even though he wasn't the first City player to miss in the penalty shoot-out? -
There is no evidence anywhere that the South Stand was named after Sir Arthur. The original terrace had no formal name and was just part of The Ground. Your matchday options (in 1959) were: Main Stand (seats), Enclosure (standing section in front of Main Stand), Barclay Stand (covered terrace) and Ground (everything else, all uncovered terrace). There were only around 2,000 Season Tickets issued, almost exclusively in the Main Stand. After the 1958/59 Cup Run the Supporters' Club donated some £14,000 (of the entire £18,000 cost) and the terrace was extended and a roof added. This was briefly known as The Supporters Stand (see image) but the name didn't appear to stick. The 1959 club Handbook carries an advertisement from RG Carter boasting of on time completion of "New South Stand", but it also refers to the "new Stand" (as does the programme on the occasion of it being "handed over" for use) The 1960 club Handbook refers to "another fine extension to the South Stand The 1961 club Handbook refers to "the new covered stand on the South side..." (confirming the cardinal naming) After his involvement with the 1956 Appeal Fund Sir Arthur was made a Vice President of NCFC, but he was not appointed as a Director until Aug 1966.

Leeds new S/T to have min usage restrictions
NewNestCarrow replied to Greavsy's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Brentford & Arsenal have similar schemes, with the common thread being that clubs THAT ARE SOLD OUT don't want empty ST seats. The Norwich problem is slightly different, in that ST holders are not turning up but the club won't do anything to fill these while casual seats remain unsold. -
Worst Ever Managers

In June 1998, after dumping Mike Walker, City appointed Bryan Hamilton as Director of Football, with Bruce Rioch as First Team Manager. When Rioch left (March 2000) Hamilton stepped in, firstly as Caretaker then on a permanent basis. -

Well, if you say so....😕 -

And the correct answer is Megson, post-O'Neill. Took a promotion-heading side [in second place, 1.6ppg] and turned them to strugglers [1ppg in his 24 Lge matches]. -

So what? He had been in charge for 33 games (87% of the season) and achieved less than a point per game. And in his last two games City lost to sides below us in the table, allowing both of them to leapfrog us. It was 'his' relegation, without a doubt. -
The Barnes 'goal' from Saturday

Ignore me. -
In the first six months this appeal had raised less than 10% of the target amount, so it is clear the statue has been shelved for now. It also doesn't take a genius to work out why NCFC were not 'officially' leading the project.

Coach prices for away games
NewNestCarrow replied to Jim Smith's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
From most recent Fans’ Forum: “The club confirmed that it makes no profit from its away coaches and sometimes makes a small loss.” Are you sticking with your allegation of profiteering by the club on organised travel? -
Really good piece by Puntino

Interestingly not one Boo-er has had the balls to stand up and say "I was wrong. The subs were necessary because of factors that were not known to me and, in spite of my childish & selfish outburst, Wagner coached my team to a win against a top-6 rival" -
@Robert Barnes You never did a post-match summary! Were your tickets what you wanted/expected? Did the gooseberry play ball & move across??

Are you renewing your NCFC season ticket?
NewNestCarrow replied to Jimmy_Fitch's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
It isn't a new stand. Just like their Main Stand, the Anfield Road expansion bolts an upper tier to an existing structure. The terracing we were occupying on Sunday dates, I believe, from 1997. But, I certainly agree, the rails made it seem very narrow & cramped. -

Why on earth do you imagine that installation of safe standing rails will see a reduction in price? -
Re Rashica, he may have been owed a loyalty payment (an annual lump sum) and maybe delays in negotiation had triggered it & NCFC wanted to claw it back. My view is that once a player agrees to a move (or contract cancellation) then that contract ends. Of course most player-sales see a better deal for the player (bigger wages/longer term)
-
Please clarify exactly what you mean by this! Are you saying that when we sold Buendia (example) we paid him three years of wages as he walked out the door? So are Villa just paying him the difference between his Villa contract & the Norwich one? So he's being paid twice? I am really not sure this is how it works.

Someone who was there today, and who watches football for a living, said this about Lima: "Pretty footballer. Very technical. Quite slighty. Not sure how he'd cope with the physicality of the Championship, if I'm honest." What can you offer to back up your view?

Both Connor and Paddy at Old Trafford today, watching the U21s. Yes, it's a handy pitstop en route to Liverpool, but at least they are there. So 👍 -
We lost Matos because he is a Chelsea fan and because he fancied the Big Time (like Glenn Middleton and like Ruben Shakpoke). Going on loan to Huddersfield really is not much of a step up, is it? As for "delivering consistently ...." ? Alex Matos 2021/2022: debut for U21s, one start and four subs Alex Matos 2022/23: seven starts & six off the bench. Ben Godfrey was quite happy to spend a year out on loan at Shrewsbury, learning his craft. This was sweetened by a four-year deal contract. If Matos chose to turn down this kind of offer then what could we do?
-
Jeez. This one again. Those elderly NCFC starting elevens were down to injury. Replace Hwang with Sargent, Long with Gunn & Fassnacht with Rowe and your average age plummets. Meanwhile, look at the bench for one of those games - Reyes, Warner, Fisher, Gibbs, Springett & Idah - and tell me that our pathway isn't working? A side pushing for play-offs - because that is what we are - does not have the luxury of dumping green youngsters into Championship starting line-ups. Next June NCFC will welcome back three CBs, two FBs and a STR from successful loan spells. If none of those make it to a senior squad in the Champs then your argument might hold water. As for the Leeds pathway you seem so keen to praise, their youngest starting XI featured just two from the Academy system (Shackleton & Gray), with just two more on the bench. The other nine starters were purchased from other clubs &, while young-ish, were pretty much first-team ready.

To do their job they really need to be there, watching. I think that is why football grounds have those things called Press Boxes! To my understanding local journalists have only watched the U18s once this season (in the FAYC), and have only watched a couple of U21 matches (again, at Carrow Road). And I do not believe they attend regular training at Colney for the Academy group. On the basis of the above I do not expect them to have much expert / objective opinion on players outside the senior squad. As Exhibit A, look at Pink Un's coverage of Elliot Myles' contract-signing. They have copy-pasted most of the NCFC story, adding only the skimpiest of detail that anyone could have written. -

Based on the number of occasions that Davitt/Southwell/Seaman have actually watched NCFC U21s/U18s play I really doubt they have much of an idea about anything.
