  1. I completely get your frustration benchwarmer, Brexit has been a colossal disaster for the country, and "making the best of it" won't come close to the benefits of having remained within the EU. However, sadly I think Starmer has got this one completely right. The time to push for a second referendum was clearly before Brexit had happened, but through vanity and hubris Corbyn and Swinson refused to unite in common cause for the good of the country. Instead, they committed one of the most foolish errors in modern political history and granted Johnson an election which ensured victory both for Brexit and the Tories. To this day I am left utterly bewildered by the question regarding what kind of delusional narrative was going on inside Corbyn's head at that time. The next government will inherit a set of crises worse than any in recent living memory. The collapse of the NHS, education, social care, housing, cost of living etc, etc, etc, are all existential issues that will require the most urgent dedication of attention. The idea that Starmer should run his election campaign on a promise to spend the first year of a Labour administration re-running a divisive Brexit referendum, followed by a couple of years negotiating re-entry to the EU and single market (on terms that would inevitably be worse than those we had previously), would be a manifesto every Tory strategist would give their right arm to see Labour commit. It would be a folly up there with Corbyn's granting to Johnson an election that he couldn't have otherwise had. As much as I would love to see the UK return to the EU fold I sincerely believe the country would not elect Labour if it were to ignore putting its entire effort into addressing the seriously urgent issues affecting their everyday battles for survival. I suspect that there will come a point in recovery when Labour can again make the case for the clear benefits of re-joining the EU, I just don't see that case being electorally plausible for some time, and certainly not before the next general election.
  2. Indeed it is! And 99.9% of Norwich fans will willingly associate themselves with the sadness being expressed at the death of an excellent footballer at an appallingly young age. I'm not convinced you're a member of that 0.1%.
  3. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-posts-joke-picture-of-himself-as-speaker-after-matt-gaetz-nominated-him/ar-AA161Vmo Apparently the fat orange one has demanded a recount, and begun a "stop the steal" campaign.
  4. One thing the club has got right more often than not is its choice of keeper. Keelan, Woods, Gunn, Green etc, could all put in a genuine claim for top spot. I suspect it's a bit like you favourite Doctor Who, it tends to be the one you grew up with.
  5. He was an astonishing shot-stopper and put in so many amazing performances. The ones that particular stick out for me as I sit and type were the two FA cup games (including the replay) when he kept the then mighty Leeds United at bay.
  6. As a boy he was my idol. Still have a signed copy of his book. Often described as the best keeper never to be capped for England (So much so, I'm sure I remember there being a friendly arranged for him to stand between the posts for an England team- perhaps someone out there can confirm or deny that).
  7. I find this attitude strange. Webber has been nothing but honest about what our self-funding model means in terns of what our ambitions might realistically be. There was a very good reason why the club's business plan described our ambition to be in the top 26 clubs in the country. Frankly I get bored with people failing to appreciate the honesty of that declaration. Failing the sudden appearance of a beneficent billionaire ready to blow hundreds of millions on transfers, the self-funding model is the only plausible model that secures our future survival. I hate the fact that the PL is a financial sewer that puts honest clubs like ours at a massive disadvantage, but sadly there is sweet FA that we can do about that. Our last 2 seasons in the PL have been a painful experience, but the idea that a self-funding club can simply eschew the prospect of hundreds of millions in PL revenue is for those without an ounce of business understanding. Just what is a "major revamp" supposed to mean? If you think we should be aiming to spend several years in the Championship on some vague "rebuilding project", then I suggest you take a look at a club 40 miles south of Norwich. Performance over the course of a current season determines where you belong the next season. And so far, for the majority of Webber's reign, top 26 is precisely where the club has been.
  8. How long have you had the symptoms? Just be aware that a negative test doesn't mean you don't have Covid. If I had left it 3 or 4 days before I tested I would have had a negative result and believed I didn't have Covid.
  9. Could well be Covid. I tested positive on the 12th December and still have all those symptoms (and massive coughing and sneezing) now despite testing negative five days later. I think there are probably a lot of people who have Covid but didn't test early on and subsequently tested negative.
  10. Remember that promise from these lying Tory bas*tards, that Brexit would empower them to improve workers rights beyond EU levels. We all knew that the very opposite would be the case. Truss must have left her copy of "Britain Unchained" on the PM's desk. If they do this the I for one would absolutely support the call for a general strike.
  11. Yep! most of his measures have already been predicted to happen by the BOE and every other economic organisation. Frankly if they didn't happen it would have to be because the country has been blown up in a nuclear war. Entirely vacuous! He might as well have said he would measure his premiership successful if robins were still visiting bird tables. Regarding the NHS and boat people, he had to say something but I suspect he has created a hostage to fortune there. The whole speech reminded me of a sixth form head boy trying to please his tutors. Poor oratory skills marked by an over-the-top (fake) earnestness in tone that was entirely unconvincing and lacking in any substance.
  12. Extraordinary that so many are ready to write off his chances before he's even arrived. The season he got Huddersfield promoted they were fancied by the bookies to be demotion contenders. Who knows what will happen. What I do remember was his team overpowering our side at Carrow Road with one of the best performances I had seen by a Championship side (1-2 didn't do them justice). Whatever!!! Here's a link to the Huddersfield fan site to get a different perspective on his arrival at NCFC: https://downatthemac.proboards.com/thread/118255/wagner-norwich?page=1
  13. And now he can't win the 5th ballot either. Democrats must be pi*ssing themselves.
  14. No one from South Norfolk has seen Richard Bacon MP for a couple of years. In his case MP stands for missing person.
  15. Hahahaha! Truly pathetic! You post accusing me of trying to get the last word in order to make sure you get the last word. What a sad pompous bore you are. Always guilty of doing the very things of which you accuse others. Take our own advice and "just...stop"
  16. So why didn't you just ... stop, rather than reply with a post that began with yet another insult. Take a look in the mirror.
  17. I've mentioned it before but I think you would really enjoy the documentary "The Reunited States" (available on Amazon Prime). In particular the journey of a former Trump Republican strategist is truly fascinating. His job was to pump out that simplistic divisive right-wing narrative and he did it well. However, he came to question what he had done and decided to tour every state in the US to talk to the people he had previously demonised. The transformation in his perspective is truly a joy to witness. He didn't become a Democrat, but he did become ashamed of what he had done. The other contributors to the documentary also bear witness to your point that the progressive message inevitably involves greater complexity than a simplistic message based on stoking up division and resentment.
  18. No one forces you to respond to a single point I make on any thread, that is entirely a choice you make alone. You made the choice on this thread to make your comments while at the same time throwing in insults about not being bothered to read the posts I made beyond a couple of lines. I made the choice to respond to your comments. It's called free speech. You may not like the fact I disagree with your views but I always provide arguments and evidence for why I disagree with what you have said. The idea that I shouldn't respond because it might annoy you is frankly antithetical to everything that the right to free speech exists to defend. Had your "small point" merely been to point out that progressive ideas were sometimes let down by poor ambassadors then it would have indeed been a rather banal point that would hold true of the exponents of any ideas of any political or social viewpoint. But that wasn't what the debate was about. The claim being made was that under privileged white working class boys were being let down by the progressive left who were far more interested in privileging ethnic minority children at their expense. I disputed that claim and asked for evidence, of which none was forthcoming. You then doubled down on the claim that the progressives were poor at communication at which point I raised the very obvious point that the progressive agenda has in fact achieved a remarkable consensus at governmental level such that equality for women, ethnic minorities, people of different sexuality, etc, etc, is now enshrined in law, in all our institutions, and in the workplace. Hardly a sign that progressives failed in their communication of the progressive cause. Only the person posting is responsible for their post. And if you do post then you accept the right of others to respond to the post you make. If you don't like their response you are free not to reply. However, if you do reply then they free to respond to that too. It really is quite straightforward.
  19. I believe the plan is for him to enter the CR pitch on horse to the "Ride of the Valkyries"
  20. This from the man who just threw out a stream of abuse at me without saying a word in response to the arguments I have actually put forward. And not even with a hint of irony or self-awareness. Truly hilarious!
