Thin lines & that word 'if'.
shropshire canary replied to BlyBlyBabes's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
To keep that fine line between success and failure thread going - Lappins Luton winner aside, the last few minutes of games have cost us dearly this year - Baggies at home, Wolves away, Palace at home, Southend away, QPR away - I''m sure there''s others and there''s 8 points out of the 12. It really is a fine line, however good or bad we might think we are. -
Biggest 'High' of the Season.
shropshire canary replied to Big A's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Living where we do wins at Birmingham and West Brom are rare jewels to enjoy - and almost getting the treble at Molineux too! That said the Lappin goal was undoubtedly the high as it was just so valuable and after the previous Sturdays no show so unexpectedly vital too. -
anybody reconise the scorer
shropshire canary replied to Gingerpele's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
How often is there a Norwich link with Tahn scorers against us eh - at least it wasn''t that arrogant jumped up Haynes this time though! -
WLY is going down a treat at burnley....
shropshire canary replied to hurricane's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Face hasn''t fitted at our place for quite a while now, and he clearly became disinterested for one reason or another - I suspect seeing his mate Mulryne having to play out his days at Orient will have put a real spring his step to make the most of the Burnley opportunity and at least get a contract at Championship level again. He needs to move on to re-ignite himself, don''t think he really owes us too much and good luck to him - but not when they play us next season!! -
I think that finding a system that accommodates Hucks, Earnie and Martin will be a key challenge for the close-season - and its key is a solid defensive and midfield platform as the only time we''ve seen it work was in promo season when it was Mckenzie Svensson and Hucks as a 4-3-3. Assuming this to be the plan then this summers investments and also any experimentation in the rest of this season should be self apparent.

Luton sack boss Newell
shropshire canary replied to USA Canary's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Well it may just be that the team will pull out all the stops for a caretaker/new manager !! Fingers crossed - I''d still like a 22nd April victory that sends the scummers plummeting!! -
Who is Norwichs greatest ever signing?
shropshire canary replied to sdldjl05's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Or from the same era Mr dependable Ian Culverhouse!! In tems of immediate impact not sure Mark Robins (2 at Highbury then a stunner at home to Chelsea for our opening 2 games 2 wins of that season) will ever be bettered. Otherwise ZLF''s list isn''t to far wrong. -
Anyone who stood behind Gallagher and his complete rush of blood to the head causing their second goal, and hi general lack of dominance (and shouting) over/with his defence will not be surprised by this. That said he made one excellent stop at 2-2 which with hindsight would have been more than significant.

Don''t quite know how anyone can WANT league One football next season, so Tumbleweed''s approach can only be the right one.

Keogh to sign for Wolves?
shropshire canary replied to Erik the Viking 's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Local radio here says Keogh joining Wolves for £600k - their SIXTH signing this month. Ambition or prudence? -
Norwich V Burnley Postponed
shropshire canary replied to Rethinking the future's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
2hours there and 2 hours home - just in and totally p****ed off - even Five Live were very slow picking up on this postponement so we didn''t find out until we got to the ground on what had been a dry and sunny morning - why such a late inspection?? -
Who is having second thoughts?

Excellently put, and completely sums up my sentiments Tumbleweed -
Score predictions from now on.
shropshire canary replied to Hartsons Gut's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
If these results do indeed pan out as predicted (and there''s every chance imo) just imagine what the mood and tone on here will be in the week building up to the Coventry home game at the end of Feb!! Every chance we''d be really hovering over the precipoice at that point, and if that result were to go wrong as well.... -

400 mile round trip for me and my 13 year old son, and we had our first ever conversation about whether we should be renewing as we walked up Rouen Road on saturday - add the cost of travel/programmes et then at c £2k p.a (plus the dozen or so away games we attend) then it''s a big financial boost if we revert to membership and come to only half the games. We''ll certainly be leaving it as late as possible this year, even it does then cost a bit more, and really want to see all concerned at the club pull their wotsits out of their a***s over the next few weeks - Leeds and Luton in Feb are the games I''ll judge it on as they are vital on oh so many fronts and come straight after the Jan window closes too. OTBC for another 40 years? -
January so far true to form!
shropshire canary replied to nutty nigel's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
To follow the pattern it''s more likely to be the 5-3 scoreline of 3 seasons ago or the 1-4 from earlier this!! -
He''s in last place at the moment I''m afraid - looks like Puncheon from barnet will get the accolade.

Something to shout about actually came out in 1982 after promotion - I''m sad enough to admit to still having a copy (45 rpm single - remember them?) in my loft!!

"A good club with an ambitious manager"
shropshire canary replied to The Judge's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Do you honestly think that the words attributed to any player in a PR release were actually said or written by them? It''s simply not how PR works, and having spent 20 odd years in thhat particular world I do know how it does. The press release will have been written by the Media Office (Joe Ferrari no doubt), shown to the Boards representitive and the players agent for approval - possibly Grant and Brown for a cursory nod, but unlikely. Don''t look for inferences that aren''t there - player signig press releases will be very standard fare and no more. -
Martin O'Neill conspiracy theory
shropshire canary replied to Bogbrush's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
And what a finish to that season it was - winning 10 out of the last 12 games and a bizarre promotion day defeat at Hillsborough, 3 pitch invasions, a fan helping score their winner, Leicester only drawing and up we went!! What odds the same rush to the play-offs this season??!! -
Yes...it''s amazing what a top 2 spot as you enter the transfer window will do for the balance between ambition and prudence isn''t it - remember 3 years ago??

Another loan player missed
shropshire canary replied to fonejacker's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Geography has a big part to play in this - 45 minute drive from Birmingham to Stoke = loan spell playing first team football/improving fitness etc etc without the need to change your life/home. Same applies to Middlesborough to Leeds for Ugo. Our better loan options are north or east London clubs!! -
Celebrating like a loon when o''neills long range screamer hit the back of the net at portaloo rd - whilst seated in the tahn directors box, which was the only thing that saved me from a linching from the locals sat just inches away...
Certainly remember that one - back of the terraces with the City fan and managed to completely smash my one day old christmas present watch from my mum & dad (it was a boxing day match). Got a right ear-bashing you can be sure, but I think my Dad sneakingly understood (although never said so!!).
